Julia learns that Gerard and Trask are suspicious of Barnabas and warns Barnabas. Gerard arrives at the Old House at 2 p.m., gun with silver bullets in hand, and is shocked to see Barnabas in the daylight. Valerie (Angelique) has lifted the curse and professes her love to Barnabas.

The scenes between Quentin & Samantha, Barnabas and Valerie, Quentin and Daphne and Julia and Barnabas keep getting deeper and more convincing.

I would side with the good doctor b/c she was with him throughout his ordeal, risking her life and professional standing time and again. Angelique had been nothing but trouble for BC and his family since the 18th Century origins. I still give her some regard for finally realizing that love just can't be bought, bullied or bargained for. But that all came too late in the evening for her. Wound up being a major loss. But I think Barnabas really bears the ultimate blame.

Wow, Carrie was so UPSET with Gerard "the Judah Zachary" took her grandfather Ben Stoke's diary. Gerard admitted that both he & villainous Trask did take it. Carrie noticed there was a change in Gerard's personality. Gerard is startled & surprised to see Barnabas in the daylight. Wow, what a twist! That really blows my mind. Angelique must have learned that Judah Zachary possesses Gerard's body after all. That's why she has a change of heart, lifts the curse, and professes her love to Barnabas. Angelique must have given up her powers as well. Julia is still skeptical of Angelique.

If Gerard has Judah's powers he shouldn't have to point a gun at Julia to to go to the bookcase. He could use his powers. That is the final time for Barnabas to be a vampire. Another defeat for Gerard.

I think Dan Curtis was trying to give closure to them as he knew the show was ending. It was very unlike Barnabas to change how he felt about Angelique considering that she caused the deaths of Josette and Roxanne and had a hand in the deaths of Jeremiah, Sarah, and Naomi.

Too bad Julia doesn't trust Angelique. Angelique really loves her husband, Barnabas, and hopes that he will love her, too. The scene between her and Barnabas was very touching! I guess I'm a romantic, but I hope they can love each other! ~Janet in Canada

Angelique couldn't lift the curse in 1795, so she was strangled by Barnabas before she could stake him. Angelique couldn't lift the curse in 1897, so she worked with Julia to cure Barnabas. Angelique couldn't change Barnabas back to a human being after Jeb Hawkes made Barnabas a vampire again in 1970. I love Dark Shadows. I watched the original ABC broadcasts from the first appearance of Angelique as Casandra Collins to the last episode. Ages 4-7. The 1840 storyline has never been one of my favorites since I rewatched the entire series, all 1225 episodes, as an adult. While 1840 has some good writing, the glaring continuity errors ruin it for me. The biggest continuity error is coming soon and would change the most popular DS storyline. For those who don't know, I won't spoil it.

Perhaps Angelique never really WANTED to remove the curse until now when Barnabas was in immediate danger. During Leviathan she learns that Barnabas cared for Maggie so perhaps she did not want to make the way easy for him to have Maggie . Perhaps in the time between 1795 and 1840 she learned a few things and was now able to lift the curse.

Yes - the 1995/1970/1840 arc had the most inconsistencies. It's easy to tell that they were wrapping up the show and had to tie everything together. I know the spoiler to which you refer, and it would have had far-reaching consequences had they played it out after their ending point. The Roxanne vampire story, to me, is the most inconsistent. All of this said, however, these little things are what make the show so endearing. Love it so much!

@@jonhinson5701 Angelique did want to remove the curse in 1795 after she didn't die from the gun shot wound. Angelique did all she could to prevent Barnabas from becoming a vampire. After she failed, she tried to stake him to prevent him from rising as a vampire.

@@jonhinson5701 I love 1840, warts and plot holes and all. I hate to sound like I'm defending Angelique, but she did make an effort to keep Barnabas from dying and/or rising as a vampire in 1795 (although admittingly probably more for her own sake than for his). I can forgive all the other continuality problems of 1840, but it does puzzle me how she was able to cure him after failing to do so in 1795. I would have liked to have known how she succeeded in 1840 where she failed in 1795, curing Barnabas of his vampirism.
