I have a 13 foot Scamp and love it. Mine has the bath up front which I could do without quite nicely. I am a full time Scamper, meaning I live in mine and travel all over, boon docking in the desert southwest in the winter and camp hosting in MN in the summer. I have had so many compliments on mine it's unbelievable. I pull mine with a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has over 273,000 miles on it. So, you will enjoy yours to the max and happy trails.
I too want to live in one full time. How is it getting a place to park now with all this virus crap going on? I know many places have closed down due to it. Hope it all opens back up before long. I am 81 but hate my big house in this big city and I want out! I have a teardrop but its not big enough to live in or out of.
We live in Minnesota, and have thought about getting a scamp for awhile, and also thinking about the camp hosting, can you enlighten us about that? My husband is concerned about if you get rowdy folks, what is your responsibility? We love camping and right now are still using a tent. We did visit the scamp dealership, they show you every one, pretty impressive.
I truly hope you both enjoy your camper. I've been camping for a very long time. Just bought a new small camper myself. Age 99. From Los Angeles California USA 🇺🇸. Best regards 👍. Mr. Hahn
Excellent. We picked up our 13 footer in August 2018....our first camper ever. Our thinking correlates very closely to yours...though we did get the furnace. My wife did all the research on line...ordered on line...we made this purchase 100% sight-unseen. We gave our local mechanic the diagrams for wiring our Odyssey...and headed from the middle of Kansas to Backus. Yeah, we were wondering how crazy we were...and OMG were we in for a surprise! Everything connected and worked! But mostly we were shocked with/by the interior space-in a good way :) The spaces are so efficient and usable. We have travelled 8600+ joyful miles so far...its' off to the Wichita Mountains in a couple days. We are sooooooo pleased...and our 10 and 13 year old grandsons are in 7th heaven too!!!
@@elizabethrichards3504 i have the one with out bath and shower. That extra space is nice and allow me to have a seating area and leave bed down. Plus i like to have things simple and the lighter the better. Plus i dont want any smells in my air tight scamp. There are so many creative ways to wash go to toilet . Keep it simple and dont stress out on emptying the ranks .
I have traveled in a 1999 for about 13 years. From the Midwest to the west coast, the Rocky's, the Great Lakes, etc. and have put a lot of miles on it. It's been excellent and I suspect you'll really like it. And if you keep it a long time and use it a lot you'll like it even more. Grease the wheel bearings every year and you'll be good to go for a long time. Another nice thing is their resale value. I wouldn't sell mine for any less than what I paid for it 13 years ago. Enjoy!
We have a 1979 Trillium 4500. We love. It's very similar to yours - but MUCH older! (You may find it easier to leave the bottom cushion where it is, but just pull it forward a bit while you put the back up to make the bunk. Still a bit awkward, but easier than wrestling with the cushion to get it back in around the supports.) Happy travels with your new camper! I'm sure you will enjoy it!
Love it! At one time we had a 30 ft motor home with every accessory you can think of. That thing was a bear to drive. I'm recently single and have been looking at tents that hook to the back of vehicles with a lift gate, (which I have). I'd pretty much decided on getting the tent but the thought of a bathroom, or lack of, had not crossed my mind until you mentioned you opted out for your scamp. Now considering a scamp...but with a bathroom and ac LOL Great video, thanks.
Traveling as a single woman you may want to consider a Class B or a van. Plenty of places I've pulled over for a quick nap or even a "potty' stop. The people nearby were rowdy or a bit intimidating and I was so happy to be self-contained. Take care of my needs, then drive away while still inside.
Yes please! Would love to hear about the ordering process. Love that we have two things in common - interest in campers and whole plant based recipes. LOVE your videos.
Congratulations! Cute rig! Hope you make many many great memories in this little Scamp! Don't forget to pay attention to how much your trailer weighs after all your stuff is in it and also how much you can load in your car when you are towing. It all makes a difference. t
Oh, it's too cute! We talked about getting a Tab and hitting the road. Once you start watching RV videos, you won't be able to stop! Lol. Looking forward to more videos. Especially once the adventures begin.
Awesome ... I will hope and pray for better times, so I can hope and pray for a Scamp and find adventure on the road to Florida. It' good to have a dream.
The Big Bed Scamp 13', great choice. You optioned it almost perfect for my taste, though I probably would have added an awning and gone with Curtain Delete (many less rivet holes in your fiberglass). AC's and Bathrooms are loud and used very little by most. Love the new center support brace they are using next to the sink, not seen that before. One suggestion, grab a couple sheets of 3M clear protective film for both sides of the front. Will really help with rocks chips.
Be a good idea to replace Your shorepower adapter with a better one!! Also I learned the hard way when You plug Your trailer into the 7 way plug on Your Subura make sure it is secured!! I learned that one the hard way. Dragged my cord across South Dakota!!!
It looks really nice ..... I have a big pop up camper w/heat and air ... but for bathroom ... when needed ... I use a 2 room shower tent for shower and bathroom .... camping toilet and portable shower ... not expensive .... works great when needed . Just a thought for you guys . Look forward to your videos ... Brand new with camping with a camper .... I learned a lot through videos like yours ... in the future I will look into a solid camper . I love that this is so lite ... But have 3 adults that travel right now . Anyway good luck with your new camper . 😀
It’s gorgeous! Although I could never envision myself camping anywhere, you have inspired me to think better of it. The Scamp is lovely and I wish you and your hubby and your pups many great experiences in it! BRAVA!
Lived in a springbar tent, a buddy Heater and a portable potty work fine in a little place if needed. Showering tent is useful when off grid. Ive looked at the Scamp. I needed a 13ft due to the weight also. Towing capacity of my car is 1500lbs...
Very nice. We have a sprinter van conversion. I got a baby vitamix, tiny food processor, mealthy air fryer lid for my instant pot. We have stayed in it as long as 4 months in a row. No problem with WFPB eating. My fridge is bigger than yours however. Looks like that's a propane leak, carbon monoxide detector under the bed. You don't want to block its air flow by putting something in front of it. It will scream at you in the night if it gets unhappy. Eager to see food videos from the road. 🙂
Hi Brittany! So excited for your new journey...i know you'll make it an EPIC adventure! Love love love the tiny trailers...but gosh, have i learned a lot. We had our Lil Snoozy insulated exactly as you've got there in the Scamp.."Ratfur" reigns!! :) As you go, you'll discover what you need and more importantly what you DONT. Just allow your car, or "tow vehicle" to carry what you need. The ONE thing that helps enormously if you feel you need more space...get a CLAM shelter...we did and that completely fills our need for extra "living space". I set up a table, chairs, -everything, & go out there in the am (though meals are great out there too) with coffee, phone, all you need. IT HELPS enormously! Can't wait to learn how YOU prepare meals & get on with it! Where you go camping too...that's a biggie. We are both from Pgh. but live (unfortunately) in Orlando, so we have to travel FAR to get away from the heat...you've got TONS of wonderful camping destinations not too far away from you. Have a blast!!! Hugs to you!!
I'm so excited for you! I grew up going camping and now my husband and I are going to do a bit of converting to our new little van so we can camp in it. As someone else mentioned, don't forget when you pack it with food and stuff it'll add a lot to the weight. Also, try and put those beds up without moving the cushions right off, I think you should be able to just push them up in place? Also the extra table peice, can you just slide it under a seat cushion? Lots of conversions do that. Happy camping! Would love to see videos of your healthy cooking while camping, very important to us!
A bathroom with at least a wet bath comes in handy especially when you are camping somewhere and get the need to go but, you can’t because there’s a heavy rain storm or you are too far away from the campground bathhouse.
Congratulations! You will have so much fun camping and your dogs will love it as well. I have a lot of friends who compete with their dogs who own RVs/campers etc. and bringing the dogs with them is a huge plus.
We are researching Scamp trailers. Love the stove cover because I was thinking about just getting a Coleman camp stove instead. This fixes that problem!
I would cook outside and keep the inside fresh and clean if you are a neat freak like me. Its an air tight space and i dont want to smell cooked food 3 feet from my pillow at night.
Having viewed a ton of these egg style fiberglass campers I've noticed a few things I didn't like if I were considering purchasing a Scamp. 1) In one of the cabinets there is a 90 degree cut around the wheel well. Unacceptable for a 2020 new trailer to do this from a factory. They should either include the kitchen in the fiberglass mold, or at a minimum cut to the contour of the wheel wells. 2) Wonky table system design leaves glaring metal bracket exposed on wall or a giant half bed platform needing to be put somewhere 75% of the time when table is being used. 3) Big wood box over the stove as "an option" doesn't even lay flush with countertop. Probably will get splashed on that side from sink often. 4) 120 lb. limit for a bunk is an unsafe design flaw. Aside from those things I really love these Scamps and they're made to last. My hope is that one of these companies will be the first small fiberglass manufacturer to own the solo traveler/full timer market if they intentionally design one for that. They'd sell like hotcakes if they simply make an off grid design with a bed at one end and a computer workstation/bathroom at the other and all powered by solar/lithium battery bank and all standard at one price. Casita or Escape might beat them to it though.
This is a very small family operation. They have carved out their little niche. Their "sales and marketing" defies logic but as they continue to build to order it seems to be working out well for them. Otherwise, your list of concerns are overstated.
Your Scamp is very cute! Be sure to include the weight of your cargo when you calculate your tow weight. It’s very easy to add hundreds of pounds when you’re filling all the cute storage areas. Happy camping!
@@TheJaroudiFamily Gosh, you better take your Scamp to a weigh station (e.g. CAT scale) and get it weighed fully packed. Our 2015 Scamp (no bath, no AC, not big bed, with stove, sink, furnace, awning options) weighs about 1800 lb. packed for a trip. 1,100 lb sounds way low. You can't tow 1500 lb with a tow weight of 1500 lb. Well, maybe you can, but not safely.
Congratulations. You will meet the nicest people on your journeys. Looking forward to your cooking ideas. Have been camping for years and excited for you. Safe travels. We joined a club and it’s a great way to find out about campgrounds. Be sure to get your Good Sam membership. Lots of discounts at designated campgrounds.
Brittany, Thanks so much! Can't wait to see more Scamp videos about how you picked out everything and the order process and the costs with delivery. We are in Florida. I think we're going to look into getting this with the front bathroom. Also, enjoyed your daily camping 1st time video with instapot cooking tips. Just started Tower Garden a month ago look it up on Google. Trying to go more plant based diet here but I'm not able to eat all those beans or any spice. I'll look for your camping meal ideas without beans. So much fun. So nice to meet you!
One thing about the bunk bed I think would be better is instead of the poles, straps that hook into the ceiling would be much easier and safer as well. Plus it would hold a great deal more weight. We had 2 bunks on our boat. The backs would lift then hook into the ceiling. I always slept on them. They were very cool. Dont get me wrong here, I love your scamper, and the bunks, I just see a problem with those poles.
That looks like a perfect little camper. I love the metal tree piece you have. It'll be interesting to see if it's too cold or too hot in the camper without the furnace or air conditioner.
I have one of these on order. I came "this" close to getting a teardrop until I realized that getting up on a cold windy rainy morning and going outside to pee and make breakfast was not appealing. Maybe this is small, but you have everything you need without braving the elements. And without spending a fortune on gasoline.
I think you made a good decision. I own a 10 X 12 wall tent with a wood stove, a couple of older RVs that I use exclusively for off grid hunting and fishing, a 16 foot Scamp that I use for extended trips, and I spend a lot of time off grid and traveling. After years of spending time in areas without services and in snow and high winds I really appreciate being in a hard-sided camper I can get just about anywhere and just hole up in for days if I need to when the weather gets really bad. And there simply are times when it is just a real pleasure and potentially a life-saver to be able to be inside something that will protect you from the elements. If you spend time in the mountains of the western US, the Great Plains, and deserts I guarantee there will be days when you wake up and are super happy you can brew a pot of coffee and fix breakfast where it is warm and dry.
Here in BC, the only reliably dry month is August. Any other time of year, heavy rain is a high possibility, so a hard sided camper that keeps you dry and cozy on a wet weekend is essential.
LOVE your scamp. I would do the exact same but 100% with the furnace and AC. I get summers off from work so I like going out further and longer for my trips but I was just killed by my last two. Hither Hills low 90's and Letchworth 99F and humid super buggy. Both trips were hampered by storms too so a little cabin would be a nice reprieve. In the fall I would make good use of the furnace too and have to think about electric running out the battery quick or Mr. Buddy fumes. The fantastic fan is one of the best things ever invented for RV's! Going to call Scamp on Monday to get a quote. The Casita's are nice but too expensive. oh well, there's always the tent haha
Congratulations! So cool! It would be fun to see videos on food you make in your scamp trailer using your smaller instant pot. :) May you have many fun adventures! :)
Remind your old man that he is married to a clever, well spoken young lady who carried this off as well as a trained factory talking head. He is a lucky fella
I don't think I have ever watched someone make-up the beds fully. I don't think anyone just sleeps on the cushions without blankets, sleeping bags, etc. It looks simple until you think of the whole process of getting it ready for bed. (And where does all the bedding get stored.)
It is adirable!! I'm so excited for you!! I encourage to join the Scamp club and go to some rallies with them. Or it could be Casita club but I think they include Scamps. I know there is one just not the details. It is so exciting to go to a campground and see dozens of them at once. We've had that happen 2 or 3 times. After many years of tent camping with our large family and several campers, we now own an Airstream and recently retired. We have had a blast with our Airstram club. I know you will have many happy adventures with your new baby! PS. Don't forget to give her/him/it a name!
You really got my attention when you said you have a Subaru Forester because that's what we have and I didn't think any kind of trailer would work with the weight limitation. Looking forward to seeing more videos of it being put to use.
I think as a design I would have hinged the second loose table leaf to the fixed one, then just flipped it over on top of the fixed one when utilising as a table. Saves having to find storage for it. A double thickness table top wouldn’t be a hassle.
The awning with the screen door would have been very nice. Suggest Slim Potatohead's channel to see his mods. He is running solo mostly & his choices of kit seem very practical. Thanks for sharing.
I would have wanted the bathroom. Even just to use it to get up in the middle of the night to pee it would be useful. Nice review . Happy you bought what you like.
I was just watching some videos of Elsa Rhae & Barron; they also have a scamp. The put in a little woodstove, & bought 8" memory foam at Walmart for the bed. She cut it to fit with an electric knife; which she calls a turkey cutter! I think I would like the option that you have; to set the bed area up as a bed; if it's comfortable. I like your scamp; seems bigger inside than it looks!
Thanks Brittany - just a suggestion for the bunk bed - try putting up the first support over by the stove. Then slide the bottom mattress in, then the last support. The space by the door should give you extra wiggling room? I want one of these ;-)
It's very freeing, pooping in the woods. They do say that air on your an#s is very healthy and so is squatting over a pit that you've dug with your bare hands. And who doesn't appreciate wads of used toilet paper left in the woods?
That is your opinion, which of course you are entitled to. Our feeling is it is a huge trade-off to lose valuable space you need all the time for a toilet you need a bit of the time. Porta-potty is a great option that works well for us.
Too small for me, however I can see the attraction for others. Where do you plan to store your bedding when you take apart your bed and set up the dining room table? Just not enough storage. It's definitely for the minimalist, and a sturdy little trailer option for you. Congratulations on your new trailer.
I am getting one and plan to use my vehicle for storage too. I will probably end up with the bed set up all the time and not use the table. I can eat in bed just fine. The 16 foot has a little table apart from the bed and I considered getting the 16 ft just for that.
So cool! We love camping, but usually in tents. My in-laws have a pop up camper. It’s old but still nice. I can’t wait to see your first camping trip:)
Great video. Congrats in your purchase. Just came across your channel. I liked and subscribed. Looking forward to following you guys on your adventures. You are instore for many great memories. Have fun, be safe, and stay healthy.
Happy for you & your family 🐾🐶 😁 in your new 2020 Scamp. I really must have a bathroom even if it is a port a potty. Can't stand using a public 🤢outhouse. Thank you for sharing your video of your cute little Scamp 😁 🚐👫🚙🌷🌳💗
Congratulations! Happy Camping! Such a cozy camper! Thanks for the tour! If you are looking for any camping suggestions, you wont be disappointed with Westbranch Ohio. Beautiful lake and facilities.
