Bought the omega speedmaster today, yellow gold on the bracelet, with the gold dial , got 10% discount as I subscribed to their website, don’t actually get the watch until the first batch arrives, but super excited 🥳😍
The Vacheron Constantin historqiues 222, in my opinion is the best release at watches & wonders by a country mile. It will be hard to obtain because although it is not limited edition, it is limited supply. In fact VC only produces roughly 20,000 watches worldwide which compared to to the others brands is minimal. On top of this the 222 is only boutique exclusive. My second favourite is the Patek 5205r. It's stunning, followed by the tudor bb58 Pro. Probably the only 3 I would get. The patek 5374 and the GS white lion is stunning, but no point thinking about it. Its unobtainable, so not worth looking at.
the 222 is also my favourite this year. I also liked the Platinum sports watch w/ the tourbillion from Parmigiani, and is looking forward to a Streamliner with Vanta Black dial from H. Moser. However, having ordered 2 CZAPEK and also gotten an AP Royal Oak 50th anniversary model this year, I don't have the budget for anymore new watches, but the 222 is really tempting, especially because I also wanted an old 222 before they re-launched this one.
I don't drink much soft drink, but if I feel the need, on a hot day, I don't usually opt for Sprite, I'd much prefer a nice cold Coke. If there is no Coke I usually don't bother. Even more so when the Sprite is warm and flat. Oh sorry, we were talking watches....same applies here. 😃 😄 😀
Hi Damien got to say I’m a little relieved that your must have Rolex watches are different to mine seeing that we use the same AD saying that the GMT is not for me either, Patek have done a stunning job as with GS 👍
I reckon the Lange Odysseus in titanium would be a Damian-watch - it’s a truly stunning creation in my opinion🤠 (Limited to 250 pieces, but he might be able to get in contention?) I wholly and categorically agree about the green GMT - I think Rolex are virtually trolling the unwashed masses of spivs and flippers by making something as _screwed-up_ as that! And yeah - I also agree on the new vintage look Calatrava. I’ve already registered interest at my AD - although it wouldn’t be the high complications piece in my case, alas. Again, a really beautiful creation.
The Patek 5226G is my favourite of the bunch, the dial texture is incredible. Way out of my price range though! I have a LHD Tudor Pelagos so was looking forward to the Rolex lefty, but I can't understand why they had to move the date window too. It looks strange, I think I'd have to see it in person before I get added to another endless list :)
Great video thanks! New 222 in 2022 is fantastic. Would loved to see it in platinum as well. I guess VC avoided a stainless steel version cause it would go through the roof like the Overseas.
That 222 is stunning! but its a direct copy of the original one only except the movement, and that illustrates VC's current philosophy of refusing to evolve and develop other than taking advantages of the market (caused by cooperate structure and pressures from above). everything else is perfect with that watch
I have seen a couple of videos on the new watches that came out, but this one is by far the best. Perfect balance between facts and personal opinions. Great video
Top notch choices Damian, love the look of that new oris, especially the blue dial variant .. that thing is stunning . Looking forward to seeing the new additions to the watch guys collection. That Vacheron Constantin 222, WOW. Just look at it .
Great job as usual Damian, agree 100% on the lefty GMT, personally I really fancy the air king and the BB pro...... can certainly imagine that gold VC overseas being "underneath the ( insert colour) jumper today" at some point in the future 👍
Nice review, Damien. Concise as always. Good choice on the Rolex. My Day Date is identical, except I'd not an onyx dial 😔. The combo of baguettes, YG and black dial is a real winner. Mine has the rare bark finish, which sets it apart.
Great review. I agree that the green GMT is superfluous, a coke would have been nicer. Nevertheless I am sure the price of this odd "lefty" GMT will soar to crazy levels. I own a Hulk and am on the list for the green AP Diver - green has always been one of my favourite colours. Having said this, I think watch makers are overdoing it with the green theme...such highly reputed producers like Rolex, AP, PP and VC should be more creative and stop running after trends but rather set new trends. There are so many other colours to explore...
Hi Damien - Review on Day /Dates would be welcome, been on a list for the white Gold Green dial for 18 months so still live in hope, maybe with the blue dial Plat release i may have a chance!!
Im looking forward to getting my 'leftie'. I'm a right hand watch wearer so it will be nice to have a crown that can be got to when on the wrist, if need be.
A nice review and the ones that stand out to me, unfortunately I can’t afford them, are the Patek Calatrava and the Laurent Ferrier. The Oris is very nice but is a non starter for me as the bracelet does not have micro adjust. At the moment I have my name down for the red dialled Omega Aqua Terra. I dislike Butterfly clasps so I will get it a nice after market leather strap.
I have a theory about the Rolex LHD Riddler GMT... its been released so AD's can work out who the flippers are. Picture it: Customer walks in: Hi can I put my name down for a LHD ? Sales assistant: Sure let me take some details. Can you write them down on this piece of paper? Customer: *writes with right hand* Sales assistant: What watch are we wearing today? Customer: *Slides up left sleeve* [insert brand and model] Sales assistant: Thanks, we'll be in touch Customer: * leaves* Store manager to the sales assistant: Did you do the two factor test Sales assistant: Yes Store manager: did he pass? Sales assistant: Nope Store manager: Put him on the blacklist
Genius! Although there might be an even simpler way of telling: Customer: "Can I have the new GMT please?" Sales Assistant: "Do you like this watch?" Customer: "Oh yes." Store Manager: " He's a flipper - kick him out of my store!"
as a lefty I really appreciate the new gmt lefty, I assume you are right handed? I am biased, obviously, but as a kid growing up in the 60’s it was difficult to get left handed scissors, my mother went out her way to get them for me, so your comments on the lefty gmt reminded my of the teasing I got to hear from the righties…. Otherwise great content !
I am, but that makes no difference whatsoever. I used to wear watches on my right wrist, now it's my left. Scissors are a specific shape that make them painful to use in the wrong hand because of their design. Watches are not.
The Vacheron 222 is utter class. Such a beautiful piece and I’d love to see that one close up. Or even better, on my wrist but that’s never going to happen! 🙄😂 I was sorry to hear about what happened with Jonathan at the London Watch show. I hope they get who ever is involved in that. Just terrible.
@@TheWatchGuysTV Uhmm... we all know how it goes with Rolex watches. Apart from them being made of Unobtainum, they are destined to be much sought after and to reach Collector's Item status. Especially those models that utilize Rolex' colour for special occasions: Green ! Thus, I wouldn't be so harsh on that new GMT-Master II. After all, it is a stunning looking watch, however limited it's usability may be.
Like you, I also have an affinity for the Platinum Day/Date. I don’t see any changes with this release, but I think the solid platinum dial never came with a fluted bezel.
Even left-handed Rolex (and I am left-handed) will be totally unobtainable for 95% of viewers. Many could afford it at retail but not on the gray market.
I know I speak for many watch enthusiasts because the comments are impossible to ignore. We are so tired of hearing about Rolex watch releases when you can't even buy any at all without getting worked over by the grey marketeers. I mean come on already FFS. A mass producer all of the sudden has become a micro brand? People paying new car prices for unremarkable movements because supply has been intentionally manipulated like OPEC. RIDICULOUS. I will make a conscious effort to never buy another Rolex or Tudor. You might as well get a Vacheron or Patek if you are going to pay these absurd hype brand prices and go through this nonsensical Ferrari wait list malarkey. Why hype brand? Because Rolex make literally a million watches a year. They don't make a grand complication. They have ZERO inhouse movement heritage prior to 2004 to when they stopped putting someone else's movements in their cases. Even their dials and bracelets were also outsourced to wholly distinct third parties. I can't name anything they claim to have invented that wasn't already being manufactured at the time. Their only major horological advancement has been a rainbow 🌈 dial of diamonds and comic book character ceramic bezels. Meanwhile look at the new Tourbi from Grand Seiko. At this point I would not wear a Rolex in public if you gave it to me for free. I'd definitely sell it though.
Hi Damian, I enjoyed the review even if it did underline my inadequate watch fund. Green and gold is a classic colour combination: it can flatter otherwise unremarkable aircraft, and looks good on coaches too. Gold watches with gold bracelets are too full on for me, but look good on a strap. I approve of the Airking and really like the Black Bay Pro, but it remains to be seen how it wears, at 14.6mm thick. Patek Philippe have done well and the Rolex Leftie is just nuts.
Brilliant as usual Damian. Must admit I have registered a interest in the “Lefty”. I love it!! But as my dad used to say “your not the smartest our kid” 🤣. Just love the colour combo. I have the green OP & the Cermit. Keep up the good work.
Awesome video Damian - Just don’t get the GMT - wouldn’t want it or wear it - Really don’t understand the Falcon Eye Dial on the Yachtmaster either - but lots of other great watches to hanker after.
I don't understand why people think Rolex should just start pumping out a shit load of watches just to allow everyone who wants one to get one. If they flood the market with watches, they will cease to be desired watches and coveted
I like the new bezel colourway of the new Rolex 7-Up/Sprite GMT, but making it predominantly appeal to only 10% of the population (lefties) is a very curious move. I'm sure collectors will jump on them, but for me it would look and feel just too awkward being a right-handed person. A complete no-no for me. No doubt a traditional configuration may follow .... thoughts?
lovely run through. The VC is err umm "not my cup of tea" it looks like a cheap 70's watch my dad had and besides its too small and way too thin. I was hoping for new Everest editions or ideally an announcement they were putting them onto general release. Anything with diamonds is automatically a shit show and anyone who buys anything with diamonds needs to look in the mirror and ask themselves "am I a drug dealer living in Miami?" if the answer is no then the watch should be thrown immediately in the bin where it belongs. The new PP's (diamond dog excepted of course) look classic and welcome the GS skeleton is great looking although Im not a fan of skeletal look watches. Rolex: I am right handed but wear on the right and always have. The new GMT should suit me but the colour combination is drab and totally lacks curb appeal. The rest of Rolex is a mess too including the discontinuing of any OP41's which are part of their entry level range. It seems a deliberate attempt at alienating new and potential customers. Perhaps they should have actually increased supply to drive down these insane grey market prices but this move will have the effect of increasing demand on the grey market. hmmm I've supported Rolex strategy in the past but this is indefensible imho. whilst I haven't had a long look over the whole releases but it's a bit underwhelming overall to me at least
the new tourbillion grand Seiko, Laurent ferrier and JLCs range look superb. not that I could ever afford them. did you queue overnight and have a punch up to grab a moonswatch lol? p.s. don't forget the new charity Underd0g "aubergine" release goes live tomorrow if you fancy trying your luck
