Ford's extreme Ranger Raptor pickup has received a major redesign that was motivated by the F-150 Raptor sold in the US and replaced its 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine with a 3.0-litre gasoline V6 that is significantly more powerful.
The new Ranger Raptor now has front and rear locking differentials, a full-time four-wheel drive system, an on-demand two-speed transfer case, and these features. Seven selectable drive modes and an electronically regulated active exhaust system are two further noteworthy improvements. The vehicle has a custom chassis and additional reinforcements and mounts designed specifically for the Raptor to help it withstand more demanding and harsh driving conditions.
The truck also boasts a more modern suspension system thanks to the Fox shock absorbers. These devices are said to be the most advanced ones ever installed on a Raptor. In comparison to the current model, these units' Teflon-infused oil reduces friction by around 50%.
We're told the suspension system has been totally overhauled, and Raptor-specific mounts and reinforcements help ensure that the chassis is capable of handling the challenge of speeding through the desert. Aluminum is used for the upper and lower control arms to reduce weight, and both axles receive extra travel. Adjustable Fox 2.5-inch Live Valve shocks with internal bypass technology are also standard. Bottom-Out Control, which maximises damping force in the final 25% of suspension travel to prevent the underbody from having an expensive encounter with a rock, is one of the many unique features crammed into the Raptor. As a result, the Ranger doesn't squat while accelerating. Thick skid plates protect the majority of the vehicle's structure from harm if the Raptor does bottom out.
Of course, technology is included in the bundle. Seven modes are available to drivers: Normal, Sport, Slippery, Rock Crawl, Sand, Mud/Ruts, and Baja. Each profile alters variables such as the sensitivity of the ABS, the shift points of the transmission, the traction and stability control systems, and the throttle response. Additionally, each driving mode is associated with a certain theme in the instrument panel.
The redesigned "C-Clamp" LED headlight design is placed on each side of the second-generation Ranger Raptor's updated version of the full-width F-O-R-D grille that is present on all Raptors. Cast-aluminum side steps and flared arches enhance to the Raptor's aggressive appearance. Special 17-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in all-terrain tyres that are only available on the Raptor.
Ford claims that the new truck's interior includes "sports seats inspired by jet fighters," Code Orange accents, and ambient lighting. A heated leather steering wheel with a centre marking, magnesium shift paddles for the 10-speed automatic transmission, a 12.4-inch digital instrument display, and a 12-inch infotainment screen are all included as standard equipment.
First customer deliveries of the 2022 Ranger Raptor are anticipated this summer.
