It's crazy how BMW took less risks with this X1 than any of their other recent designs (4 series, m3/4, 7 series, etc). This is very reminiscent of the X3 but perfectly miniaturized for this platform. Probably their best redesign in recent memory that doesn't make me balk in some way. Wonder who is the designer .. vs the others (of the 4, m3/4, etc) lol. Kudos to them🥂
I wouldn't say that they took less risks. It looks, to me, that they realized a way better packaging than most of their lineup. In this case everything (from the proportions to the creases) fits way better than some of their sedans.
gotta say. The X1 arguably looks the best in the BMW SUV lineup right now. The X5 front grill isn't as tidy as this is. Oh...and this is def the top X1 spec since it got the quad tail pipe treatment.
The X1 is BMWs best looking car. Completely defined and instantly recognisable. Nothing about could be confused for a Japanese car, unlikely every other BMW model.
Finally, an X1 with 300hp. We had one in the first gen but then it was gone. This is actually perfect inside and out! I can't wait to get in one and test it out.
I never thought that the day would come, in which I'd declare that prefer a company's SUVs to their sedans when it comes to style (still not a fan of Coupé-SUVs 🙅🏿♂️). Only exceptions? The current 3-series and the now "old" 5-series
Porsche makes the same looking cars for over 50 years and gets made fun of for it but BMW mixes things up with their design and still gets shit. Manufacturers can’t win. 🤷🏿♂️
With "car people" (put in quote unquote because they follow what others think), the boldness in car designs is like a taboo, which means it's more comfortable to criticize polarized designs than the recycled multi-year single one.
I had the Gen 7.5 VW Golf R which had the Haldex AWD- FWD biased system and in daily driving, you can’t tell, it felt very balanced even in the Winter. An absolute missile in slippery conditions. I also had several FWD based GTI’s over the years- very obvious FWD dynamics, not nearly as good as the R.
At first glance I definitely thought that the dash was in a housing too. You are right, it is very clinical and sterile from a design philosophy perspective to just have screen sitting there. I wonder how customers are reacting to it and what they’ll do with the feedback for the next gen of BMWs.
Yea, you’re right on those hp figures. BMW are so so conservative on their Hp rates. I have a 23 X3M40i and that suv is not rated at 382 hp at all ! I am out here beating 6th gen 5.0 mustangs 😂
Saw a new X1 the other day. It looked nice, but one thing really bothered me. BMW's latest turn signals "fade" in at the front and rear, but the side mirror signals just light up instantly like a normal LED. The fact that the lights were out of sync was actually quite jarring. Mazda does this much better with their "fade-out" signals, which are perfectly synced at all six points.
I’m with you on every point. This X1 struck me hugely the first time I saw it at the dealership. They have every series showcased around it but this car really was stole the show. It’s a stunner. On the dash, I do prefer a proper housing like the on used in the 8 series.
Without a mild hybrid 48V battery to spin up the turbo and electric start at stops, this car still will lurch and lag from stops. And no spare tire?? For $15K more than a loaded regular X1 all you get is quad tailpipes and a second faster to 60mph. Oh, and worse mpg.
Picked mine up today. I traded in my 2021 X1 (non-M model). WOWSERS! It a whole 'nother animal. I bought it in all black and it's aggressive as hell looking. (My favorite BMW I've ever had, was a 2003 525i wagon, like they use as police cars in many European countries. That was a sexy car. Had it 18 years and only had 50K miles on it. Definitely step up from the earlier '20's and it's a welcome monster.
The fact that they’ve put quad exhaust tips on a car that isn’t a fully fledged M car shows that BMW is losing their identity. They had a system before where the M ‘light’ cars would have these rectangular shapes for exhaust tips and the fully blown M cars would have the quad tips. Before the rectangular shapes, they had the two larger pipes (e92 335i and f32 440i) which helped to separate from the actual M cars. They also brought the wing mirrors from M cars down to the M light models which again just sort of waters down the appeal of getting the best that BMW M has to offer
x1 m34i is basicially an x2 m35i redesigned. The engine was about if not the same hp. It did have a front week bias and it still had torque steer, the x2 seems ti roll a bit because it is a narro car.
I’m actually disappointed that they didn’t keep the same tuning configuration from the X2 M35i. I had the 28i and it was a real treat to drive. I recently got to drive this X1 in the 28i engine configuration and it just felt horrible to drive and nose heavy. Hopefully I’m wrong about this one though
@@ismaeldah6512 I had an x1 awd. I've churned thru a few BMWs in the last few years. I'm not bragging about it; I was just stupid: x1s, x2 m35i, x3s., 330 awd, and a 430 GC. The main reason I got rid of the x2 m35i was the model year did not have blind spot detection, and the x2 also had huge blind spots that I didn't notice in a 10-15 minute road test. I had an incident that rattled me because of no blind spot detection and the blind spots, and I traded the car in the next day. Hopefully, that's changed in 2023
Yeah it looks great, but with 2026 being the year EVs will truly flood the market that makes this a stranded asset before the end of a 3 yr lease and we’ll before the end of a 5 or 6 year auto loan.
@@MvpAcceleration21 On the website you only have the option in doing vegan leather not actual leather only on the base and sport model but not the m35I which I'd interesting
There are things I can admire about this car, but overall it continues the trajectory BMW is heading down which I’m not a fan of personally, where their cars look like an ALIENWARE X FRANK GEHRY collab. Too many unnecessary lines and incongruent angles for my taste. (But also, both Alienware and Frank Gehry have lots of fans, so obviously it’s right for someone! Just not me. I miss the days where BMW’s direct design competition was Mercedes and their cars evoked luxury first, while their designs didn’t need to scream about how sporty they were.)
I was just thinking about this today as to why I don't really care for a lot of these new car designs. It's like there are so many lines there is no space to admire any particular one and also the way they can't just let a well-shaped panel speak for itself.
I have a Video idea. You could make a Series were u draw ur own cars in every category and make baisicly your own carbrand. baisicly show how you would want your cars to look like.
