20 years after the launch of the first V-STROM, Suzuki continues to expand and develop the range of its Sports Adventure Tourers.
the new V-STROM 800SE , which evolves the technical package into a more road-oriented one. With alloy wheels, 19-inch front wheel and specific chassis dimensions, this version offers a different balance between comfort, driving pleasure and practicality.
The main distinctive element of the V-STROM 800SE is clearly the light alloy wheels. The front one has a diameter of 19 inches and the rear one 17 and both are fitted with tubeless tires designed specifically by Dunlop for this bike, in sizes 110/80R19 and 150/70R17. The wheel design is new, with seven slightly inclined spokes with a dynamic design that forms a sequence of Vs that recalls the identity of the model.
All the chassis is tuned according to their use. The V-STROM 800SE adopts a Hitachi ASTEMO (Showa) SFF-BP upside down fork with adjustable spring preload and a travel of 150 mm, the same as the rear wheel. This is supported by a sturdy and lightweight aluminum swingarm, which works in combination with a Hitachi ASTEMO monoshock which is also adjustable in the hydraulic brake extension, as well as in the spring preload. The latter can be varied easily and without the need for any tools by acting on a convenient knob, in order to instantly adapt the calibration according to the load and the possible presence of a passenger.
The immediately tangible result of adopting this setup is a low and comfortable saddle. The V-STROM 800SE has a seat height of 825 mm, a measurement that allows anyone to rest their feet well on the ground and maintain a correct knee angle even on long motorway journeys. The driving position is optimized for road driving. The variable section aluminum handlebar offers a narrow and comfortable grip. The footpegs are also positioned to obtain a relaxed and active posture at the same time ensuring optimal control of the motorbike with minimal physical effort.
If driving is not tiring, credit also goes to the effective aerodynamic protection offered by the high windshield. Its particular shape has long been tested and refined in the wind tunnel to deflect air flows away from the rider's torso.
The handlebar features intuitive controls that are easy to use even when wearing heavy gloves. The instrumentation features a 5-inch TFT LCD color multifunction display which makes all information clearly readable, also thanks to the dual display modes, day and night.
The passenger enjoys optimal accommodation thanks to rubber-coated footrests, a large portion of the saddle and comfortable handles integrated into the standard luggage rack.
From a mechanical point of view, the V-STROM 800SE maintains the popular 776 cc parallel twin engine. Among its peculiarities are the 270° crank mechanism which releases full and regular delivery at every speed, and the patented Suzuki Cross Balancer system, very effective in reducing vibrations and keeping the dimensions of the engine compact. Maximum power and torque are in the order of 84.3 HP and 78 Nm, while the average mileage is 22.7 km/liter according to WMTC standards.
Thanks to the 20 liter tank, the autonomy exceeds 450 km, an extraordinary figure, worthy of a true globetrotter ready to venture into any territory.
The transmission department features a six-speed gearbox on an assisted slipper clutch.
The new V-STROM 800SE evolves the typical stylistic features of Hamamatsu's Sport Enduro Tourer with which Suzuki revolutionized the world of motorcycle design. Its line features the beaked front that made its debut with the DR-Z 800 desert racer in the second half of the 80s. The 800SE reinterprets that profile, giving the beak a unique line, thanks also to a new terminal element. Immediately behind it, the light cluster uses LED headlights inserted in hexagonal housings and topped by a compact position light. The front appears slim and modern and finds continuity in the clean shapes and flat surfaces of the superstructures.
