Great Amiga product review, subscribed. The old school with a lot of screen/benches and personal touch. I'm not surprised by CPU/FPU results as they are consistent with general 68030/6882 at 50Mhz, IDE was also fine, much more what we used to get with GVP's SCSI interfaces and Guru ROMs. I also have some Individual products (1st gen ACA500 and ACA 1232) which were well designed but also very expensive; now there are more solutions from opensource which is brutally great considering the age of our Amigas.
@counterair173 I am glad you liked the Video. I am always amazed at how many developers and enthusiasts are keeping the Amiga relevant after all these years. May it never end 😀
@@amigaretro4765 Spot on. I just saw that took on 'Dicke Olga'....just great. I have built myself a close cousin, 'Little Igor' for my A500. The card is incredible, brute force, especially new IDE driver which support CF drives above 16gigs and low IDE wait states reaching 11MBps on 60Mhz 68030.
Success! I got all working right through to the end. I did as you with the ICache in Chipmen, hard restart and voila! I didn’t do the FPU as they strongly discourage it, but it worked anyway.
Great Video. 3 questions please. 1. Do Individual Computers do the Mod for the Wirelink and FPU upgrade. 2. Are you using the Indivision MK3. I can onlly see the RGB outlet ? 3 Is that classic WB on the 3.2.1. ? I have just put in 3.2.1 and it does nothing for me as the Icon's are are elongated on Super Hi Res. Thank you. I have their AKA500+ on my A500. Just trying to justify the MK3 and an Accelerator Card for the a1200.
I thought I answered your questions earlier, If I did, I shall repeat myself :) 1) Individual Computers won't perform the FPU Mod for you, even though they provide instructions on their Wiki page, it will Void your warranty. 2) It is indeed the Indivision MK3. The main difference between the MK2 and MK3 is the MK3 has an HDMI and VGA connector (only one can be used at a time), the MK2 is DVI only, of which, I believe you can use a DVI to VGA or DVI to HDMI adapter. Also, the MK3 will output Audio over HDMI, ideally at 96KHz, for the proper decoding of an attached TV/Amp 3) Screen Aspect ratios affect the Amiga Workbench layout quite a bit. Try a 4:3 or 16:9 screen resolution such as 640x400 or 1280x720. HighGFX should be installed to archive this, the new screen modes can be found on Aminet. This may require some experimentation. If you look around the internet, there are non-interlaced Workbench Icon sets available that will help avoid the stretched look you are seeing.
I did the same to my ACA 1233n just put a socket on to it so I can take if of needed. But you have to be very carefull when getting the 68882 FPU there are many out that have been remarked to show diffent speed. one I had you can see the way it was scrached off, I got it from Ebay and was able to send it back for a refund.
I know. e-Bay can be a bit of a gamble at times. Luckily e-Bay's return policy has you covered, as you found out. Still, it's a bit of a hassle regardless.
@@amigaretro4765 the Pixar one wasn’t a demo, it the opening scene for all Pixar movies such as Toy Story. I’m thinking they got the idea from this demo.
Did you solder that FPU on there. I see they have a board now without one. And they kinda warn that 6881s are not the best addition to this board. Is the CPU socketed? The 50 MHz version is rather high $$.
The CPU is soldered to the board. The FPU is socketed (ordered from eBay). The FPU is not offered as option though you can add one yourself, as I did. The FPU installed is the 68882, its better than the 68881 anyway :) Individual Computers has instructions on their Wiki page regarding the FPU modification, but this will void your warranty
I will try to include more Bench soldering work in the future. Unfortunately, I have very limited work space which makes recording somewhat of a pain 😒
68030's are still available on eBay, usually from China as NOS (New Old Stock). Used options are also available. Look for a good Seller rating and you should be OK (getting what you actually ordered :)
@@matteoboldizzoni9870 I have several Blizzard Cards from Phase 5 with 68030's. most at 50Mhz, 25 is fine too. 020's with some Fast Ram on OS 3.1 works well, 030's are really needed when using the newer OS's such as 3.1.4 or 3.2.1
@@matteoboldizzoni9870 Definitely, the same goes for the CD32. Developers wanted more memory, especially since fast ram gives the Amiga better performance.
Just over 7 megabyte/second. That is fast. But I still dont know why I get slightly over 9 megabyte/second on my 500/68000, using a sidecar HDD/Ram expantion.
@@brostenen Hmmm. The Compact Flash Brand and Transfer Rates vary widely between brands. The controller can also have a great impact as well, especially if it uses DMA, Direct Memory Access.
ugly MWB or something new 3.2 grey/white is latest and best looking LOL so what better for amikit a1200 expansion thingy. why allways need new. AND how make pcmcia card adapter work. i have try everything. is my adapter just wrong version lol what is funny it should be same i bought years ago with floppy LOL. why they sell non working adapter LOL
There is always the TF1260. Most CPU options are the LC versions (No FPU), or you can order the card without one. If you want a full blown 68060, get ready to fork out an extra $300 USD. These are REV6 CPUs that can be easily overlocked. Most run stable at 80 MHz. Due to this, they fetch a high price on eBay or anywhere else for that matter. I may do a Video on this card later this Month, equipped with one of these rare pieces of silicon. TF1260: amigastore.eu/en/873-terrible-fire-1260-128mb-ide.html
@@amigaretro4765 Hi, have you tried to boot the CF card on the 1234 with the internal 1200 attached IDE too? I have both attached and I want to boot with the ACA1234 CF card but it always boots with the internal 1200 IDE in whatever I do. I use HDtoolbox from the 3.2 workbench and change priority boot numbers but they still say 0 on the top LUN menu. When I make the internal 1200 ide non-bootable neither one boots. It goes into the ACA1234 install menu. The CF card only boots with the WB startup menu like in your video. Great video by the way, and I like the ACA1234 card. I had the TF1260 which is riddled with problems being built by different builders with different parts. It is in repair now as it stopped booting after 11 months. It was fast yes but not as organized as the ACA1234. Wish Jens would put out a 68040 at least, although chips I assume are scarce.
@@cevoner I have similar issues. Because of this, I currently do not use the A1200's Internal IDE. Either don't install anything on the IDE header or leave "Keep Internal IDE" unchecked in ACATool. I have a TF1260 as well and even though I have a Revision 6 68060, I cannot overlock the card at all. I own various TF 68030 based cards and they all have odd quirks. As you have mentioned, Individual computers makes very reliable hardware, not perfect, but superior to what is currently available. Jens Rules 😁!
@@amigaretro4765 I fixed the boot situation by setting the CF card boot priority to 2 and the internal IDE to 0. It now boots the CF card on the ACA1234. I agree that Jens is a great design for most situations on an Amiga. The TF1260 just failed to boot and they are still trying to figure it out. I tried booting with the internal IDE but it has to double boot to load a driver. Not ideal. The driver has to reside in Rom. I did not even try to overclock it as I had the LC chip. I bought the ACA1234 because of your video and I'm glad I did. His support is impeccable too. One issue I have is with Sysinfo 4.4. It crashes most times when it reads the 6 MB partition on the CF card on the 1234. Jens says to use an earlier version but I cannot find one as yet. I have the same 8MB card you used but it's split into 2 and 6 MB. 2 MB reads fine at 6 MB/sec.
