The AMA or MXsports needs to pay for a permanent flagging crew to travel to each race. They have plenty of money to do this and the riders and factories need to demand this for their own protection before someone ends up dead.

Agreed. It’s the same reason they didn’t show or talk about the Deegan crash that we all know they have a clip of. Makes them look bad. Just like the Marchbanks crash earlier in the season.

Because the current guys doing the broadcast suck and so does the production crew. How many times do you watch the posted time interval and see action between the leaders and they're busy showing a battle for 10th place.

It took 13-15 seconds for the flaggers (it took 2), to put out the yellow. That is ridiculous and deadly.

You can't tell me that redbud can't afford GOOD flaggers. Been there, love the place but no excuse for this. It's not Chicken Licks raceway!

upsets me more than the average person, because i was injured my first year of racing. Crashed over the first big jump on the track, was picking up my bike, a rider had actually got stuck in the gate, came around , jumped the big jump, crashed into me, broke my tib-fib, i lost a whole summer. Flagger was still looking the other way after i crawled off the track.

i'm no expert but marshal need to be in a clear vision spot for riders and them to see the track was there a issue with flagger position flagger hidden behind jump or to the side why not have tennis style chairs to the side lights on the chair - bam press a button and lights flash

I remember back in 08 alessi going down 1st lap vs james stewart and it was a blind jump and three riders landed on mike alessi it was bad but no flaggers were waving at that time either

Why was it not shown on TV I was wondering why he lost so much time. The need professional flaggers not volunteers working for entrance to the event.

There should be full time flaggers for the series that flag every race. It's getting ridiculous and someone is going to get hurt! Come on AMA!

It is MX and the greed of David Coombs. They charge each location over 100 grand never mind ticket sales and all the entry fees the Riders have to pay. The purses they pay out to these Riders are a joke, and they can't afford trained flaggers? The sponsors and teams need to protect their Investments because MX Haze these Riders crap

Watch the flayer at southwhick when Swolls bike broke and that dude didn't even know what to do he stood there trying to untangle the flag. He didn't even know how to operate a flag. Deegs was catching Both of them. It cost him a podium probably.

Figures. As soon as Ricky is in the booth for the first time this year. He completely misses the Deegan crash. Dudes a dork. He used to be one of us, a MX racer first and an ambassador of the sport second…Now days he’s a full blown shill. Probably missed the Deegan crash because he was too busy saying “triumph” or “playoffs” every 2 seconds.

Dude they had no idea Deegan crashed. They saw Ty & Vialle just miss it then the camera follows those 2. Jason had no idea either. Not even after the race during his post show. It's ok if you don't like someone but don't be a prick and create a scenario for the dude that he has no control over. This is called "Being a hater" and a A hole

Not the flagging guy he was doing his job, the trouble is he has two jobs. 1/ To wave the blue flag to alert slow riders that they are about to be lapped which is the job he was doing at the time. 2/ To wave the yellow flag to show pending danger ahead. The thing is to do blue flagging he has to look towards the oncoming riders and to do yellow he has to look away from oncoming riders. So I would blame management for not having two flagging guys at each location.. Money saving maybe??

Since they’re volunteers I guess it’s number of volunteers and not having the two roles. Increasing the number of people on the sides of the track increases the chances someone will get hit with a bike. Tough challenge

Not gonna bash the flagers cause I’m not one of them so I’m sure it’s hard enough to keep up but many they should add more flaggers to the bigger jumps??

It’ll take a superstar like deegan getting seriously injured in an incident like that to make the ama finally do something and hire a permanent flagging crew. It’s the unfortunate truth. This is unacceptable. If deegan gets hurt their and is out pro motocross looses money. It’s a no brainer, be better ama. It’s embarrassing for the sport

In my opinion, the governing body bears responsibility for flag marshalling. I believe that in the U.S. that is the AMA. I'm not an American, so I may not have this right, & I'm sure people will correct me if that's the case. As for flagging itself, I had the privilege of being a flag marshal for the 2 MXGP's that were held in Australia, circa 2000. I still required training, even though I had raced MX for around 20 years, & one of the reasons for this is because, as you noted, you MUST have the discipline to watch where riders are when they have PASSED your position, & not in the direction they're coming from. We can see that this was not the case with this particular incident. Also, the flagger was not paying attention all of the time, as you must do, as riders' lives are potentially at risk during racing. It requires some personal discipline too, as I believe it's a normal tendency to look first TOWARDS the riders approaching you. I remember this point being really hammered home during our training, & when you look at the footage of this incident, you can see why this is necessary. The other issue is that as far as I'm aware, most flag marshals do this job on a voluntary basis, which has been a contentious point here in Australia, because the sanctioning body usually requires the event promoter to organise the flag marshals, even though it's technically not the promoter's responsibility, & the promoters generally don't want to spend any more money than they can get away with. We were "paid" with a T-shirt, a drink bottle, & a musette bag. Most guys I was with wanted the opportunity to be closer to the riders & the racing, which is why they were happy to do the flagging for free. So if it's anything like this in the U.S., it needs a shake up by the AMA & the event promoter, which would ultimately have to come from pressure by the teams & riders, imo. tl;dr, c'mon, just read it!

It’s poor management. By AMA and DAVEY Combs organization . The flaggers are volunteers. In other words no experience. Like Cooksy says they should have a crew that are trained. If it were a job site OSHA would shut them down. Same thing happened with Marshbanks blind side of a jump, rider falls Marshbanks gets collected. So here’s a novel idea. Pay the Truck Drivers to flag. They travel to every race and have time invested in the riders. JMO.

Flagger was looking at the face of the jump because half of his job is also to blue-flag the lappers as the leaders were moving through the pack.

They need to do a life gard stand at each jump in the center for the can see both sides. There is plenty of money I don't think the waiver would cover them on a big law suit.

Hymas and Vialle fans were hoping for the worse... the Only way they both have a chance in hell to win the mx Championship is if Deegan crashes out of the race. I have a feeling that they both will end up fighting for second.

The flaggers watch the face of the jumps to give lappers the blue flag. Still no idea why the flagger ran back after putting the blue flag down tho lol

Give AMA a break they have only been doing this for a few races. It takes time to work out the bugs.... What did you say???? They have been doing this for decades????? Okay, on a serious note, this should not be tolerated!!!! There have been so many riders taken out from injuries due to bad flaggers, but they are all volunteers........ Maybe start paying and have 1 person train them properly !!!!!!! Come on, AMA do better!!!!!

Is MXSports running a “professional” sport under the “professional”sanctioning body AMA? By all actions and evidence the answer is NO. This is bush league, minor league management. Fact is; You’re only as professional and good as the people you hire & train. The proof of competence and professionalism is in actions. Clearly someone isn’t doing their job in management of the race day trackside flaggers. Who’s responsible for the Flaggers? MXSports, AMA or the track themselves? Who’s accountable when a rider gets paralyzed because a trackside flagger is incompetent??

Degan and star Yamaha are cheating. They failed sound tests and oddly enough after his race his bike blew up during testing. These POs need to be ousted

maybe they need lights on the bars so the riders know straight away , or do it like moto gp and light up the track in front off all jumps and corners , once they see green ...lets go !!!

I mean lol not yo be a smart ass but there’s a very obvious reason why he’d be looking at riders coming towards him instead of looking both directions like they are supposed to be doing .. sure looked to me like he had the blue flag out, which would make since looking towards the racers coming at him to know when to wave it, point at, hand motion certain guys being lapped.. especially considering there were a lot of lappers getting in the way of the lead battle bc alot of the them were literally battling while getting lapped.. anyways ya it wouldn’t surprise me if ama told the flag gets after a certain moto hey try to flag lappers better for the next motos .. that all being said that is not a excuse for noticing the crash throwing out the yellow flag quick enough .. flangers should know their priorities with these flags, the yellow and white cross flag are above all trying to keep ppl safe .. if your flagging, ESPECIALLY on a jump face, your main priority should be to make sure if anyone crashes off the jump and their bike or themselves can’t get off the track immediately it’s your responsibility to stop or slow down racers from jumping on something and hurting themselves or the person that just crashed .. I think these flangers should be somewhat held responsible or be forced to be former racers or some kinda deal that produces better flagging .. it’s consistently been ppl who just don’t understand.. the marchbanks deal at rd 1 is unacceptable imo .. like that should be someone’s ass .. lawsuit, fired, etc the whole deal .. mayb that’s what it’ll take to get these flaggers to understand that could’ve easily killed garret or anyone else .. one wrong slam to the neck or back and your done .. the odds are good enough without the flaggers incompetence increasing the odds ..
