It's in place (as discussed in the video) to dissuade teams from running bikes that are unobtainable or prohibitably expensive bikes at an amateur level. If yamaha had built the bike with the rules in mind (as other teams do), they would not risk the potential loss of 10's of thousands of dollars and could simply take the money and build another bike.

He failed. He was strongarmed into dropping the claim out of fear of losing sponsors. At what point does the law have to get involved? Some dude spent 3 days in county jail and was fined 12,000$ for putting lead weights in his fish during a derby. Hayden was NOT cheating. His entire team WAS cheating when they protested the claim rule and continued to ride the bike. What the fuck are rules even for?

You can ride a factory bike in Loretta's the rule is simply in place to kind of sway people from putting tens of thousands of dollars in to a bike that someone else could potentially take but other than that there was definitely no cheating involved I don't agree with how it went down but anyone who says because he was riding a factory bike he cheated is crazy

I understand fully, why Yamaha, Brian and that old guy acted the way they did. It’s a damn near if not fully factory bike that is heavily safeguarded from public knowledge. But, regardless, the fact that he was targeted, because of his claim is absolute garbage. The threats and the scare tactics that Yamaha imposed are also garbage. Don’t bring secret motors and technology to a race, that you’re not willing to have the public find out about. This isn’t the pro’s.

A friend of my brother in law bought 2 of tucker hibberts backup race sleds from arctic cat and neither one had engine work but were faster than my brother in laws, same year, same sled. Its the cdi! They wont tell him what they did either. Its just fast as hell and if the cdi zaps for some reason they will send him a new one but not the race one. With cat if you want your stock cdi tweaked you have to send it to them as far as i know but you wont get the full race cdi. Factorys protect that shit for a reason! Thats their edge and thats fair

After the Pro race when the track was at its worst, he threw down a laptime nearly 2 seconds faster than the fastest guy in the pro class. Claiming is not common at Loretta's at all. It's only happened a few times in 30 years. Mike Alessi and Ricky Carmichael I know for sure. It's used as a competitive weapon, because everyone knows it's a B/S rule. Do it and dont ever show up at a track again type move. Not for youtube and joy rides.

I work at a ktm dealer, and I see firsthand how much the support of a dealership helps amateur riders. He said Yamaha threatened to take bikes from his main sponsor, and finding another dealer to support them isn't an easy feat. He pretty much had no choice but to back down.

That can all be legal, but you risk losing all of the money and custom parts if somebody puts up the cash to claim it. His reasoning doesn't matter. When you sign up, you agree to forfeit you bike by way of the claim rule if somebody wants to go that route. People have claimed plenty of bikes solely because of their value. If we all agree to run 10,000 bikes and you show up with a 50,000 bike, why wouldnt somebody claim yours? Cheating isn't the issue and was only ever mentioned by people who weren't part of the situation and who have no idea what they're talking about. The kid should've followed thru with the claim. Its extremely likely that Lorettas was as far as he'd ever go anyway so there's no need to worry about burning bridges in the industry. Get the bike, ride it, tear it down, make videos about everything, gain the following and the earnings, and have a cool bike to ride and race for a while.

I mean in the end the kid made the decision to not buy it. He realized that the repercussions were way more severe than the bike was worth. Truthfully that’s what Matt walker was telling him by saying it’s an unwritten rule. You know if you do that to a team there’s gonna be repercussions. Yamaha could have just said nope your not taking it and loaded it up and took it back to the shop. Maiden would have had to deal with the consequences. So Yamaha just turned around and said ok you can buy this bike, but this will be your consequences. Yamaha went off the deep end when they started designing car engines, and doing partnerships for I believe don’t quote me, Subaru/Lexus which these engine designs were used in helicopters. I’ve been out of the racing scene for almost a decade, but times and people change. Honda/Suzuki/husqvarna Are doing a way better job at providing the working class man reliable bikes. I was ride or die Honda/Yamaha but finding my garage with more team red/yellow/green. Just sold a Kawasaki Frankenstein made me regret never giving Kawasaki a chance all those years ago.

The only bias I heard was from Tyler who was seemingly defending Brian Deegans actions. and knowledge of the situation. Anyone who honestly believes that Brian Deegan wasn’t fully aware of the build of said bike is simply being a Deegan ball rubber.

The way the kid is speaking and the he’s telling his story makes him seem suspicious, he’s giving details that no one would put in a story unless it was like a writin out kind of deal, not saying he lying at all, but the way he’s saying stuff kind of dragging names through the mud and then backtracking the same names. The bike at that level could give u some sort of advantage,,, but think about that again,, all of the pro am riders, hymas, ryder D... they couldnt performed and they are in factory teams

Well that, but also for exactly this reason. AMA doesn't want factory teams racing $100k+ motorcycles with one of a kind prototype tech racing in amateur races. Leave that stuff for the big pro nationals. Should make factory teams think twice about not only cheating (I don't think they were, I don't know anyone who does) but these situations too.

No one claims factory bikes. It's unsaid rule. Plus this is mod class. Mods are allowed.

@@djjazzyjeff1232 nothing was 1 of a kind or prototype. Star is the factory Yamaha race team. Deegan is an employee /rider of there's. Bike was probably worth 50k. The biggest issue was the ECU. But if he just wanted to ride the bike and film a you tube video riding it. He could have asked haiden and just gone to California and ridden on deegans track with haiden and huck and probably Brian and then played with there can ams etc. But kid did lie about being alone in room with tim and Brian as the head of ama was in the room with them. As the office they were all in was his office, Tim's office and 1 other person's also. Great article in racerx about this. But also Schofield signed a document with Star Yamaha that says he wasn't pressured at all. So... This is confusing. His dealer only says they told him it was a bad idea as it's unwritten rule to not claim factory team bikes. Only happened 3 times before this. Plus why haidens, why not the other star Yamaha rider. Or the other 5 or so teams. PS factory engine is legal in mod class, it's not cheating. But deegan supposedly ran last race with stock engine and ran fastest times of year at LL Next year he will be pro. Deegans only wanted the bike cause it was his last race at Loretta Lynn's. They keep all the special bikes

@@cw93711 I totally understand and agree with everything you said. But what you didn't mention was the actual rule, the rule goes like this: Any rider's bike can be claimed for double the MSRP. The motivations of the kid couldn't be more meaningless. Fact of the matter is, those are the rules. If you don't like them, you're welcome to not race there. A guy like Haiden Deegan could very easily completely skip Loretta's and all AMA Amateur Nationals for that matter and still have a long promising pro career. Or, Stock bike, throw suspension on it for his weight, and he'd still win every moto barring mechanical issues. Then when some jackass claims his bike, cool, they spent $17k on a bike worth $10k. The way I see it is because of the rule, Loretta's is essentially slapping a $17k sticker on every bike. If your bike is worth significantly more than that, or you're worried about secrets being leaked, you're pretty god damn stupid if you still show up to race it. The Deegans claim to not know about the rule, maybe that's true. But that doesn't matter either. Ignorance of the law works the same way, doesn't matter if you didn't know you couldn't have anything hanging from your rear-view mirror in Minnesota but you can in Iowa, the Trooper in MN will still write you a ticket either way. I see this in the same light.

@@djjazzyjeff1232 another reason why Deegans claim about not knowing the rule doesn't matter is because it's not exactly his bike. It's not like he bought it off the showroom floor and built it himself. The kid shoulda got the bike, nobody should've been allowed to question him in any way, especially not in random sidebars, and anybody making a claim should be able to remain anonymous if they wanted. The rule is a good rule but it needs to be amended to prevent bullshit like that from happening next time. And I'll bet that we won't have to wait long for the next claim or even multiple claims at the same event.

Or....they might actually follow the rules!
