@@EarthSurferUSA How is the rule immoral? the rule is literally in place to ensure the morally fair playing field for all amateurs at an amateur event. It's in place (as discussed in the video) to dissuade teams from running bikes that are unobtainable or prohibitably expensive bikes at an amateur level. If yamaha had built the bike with the rules in mind (as other teams do), they would not risk the potential loss of 10's of thousands of dollars and could simply take the money and build another bike.

@@crazyman2821 of course the cheating thing was crap. Doesn't matter. The claim rule exists to try to prevent people from dumping tons of money into bikes and using unobtanium parts. That can all be legal, but you risk losing all of the money and custom parts if somebody puts up the cash to claim it. His reasoning doesn't matter. When you sign up, you agree to forfeit you bike by way of the claim rule if somebody wants to go that route. People have claimed plenty of bikes solely because of their value. If we all agree to run 10,000 bikes and you show up with a 50,000 bike, why wouldnt somebody claim yours? Cheating isn't the issue and was only ever mentioned by people who weren't part of the situation and who have no idea what they're talking about. The kid should've followed thru with the claim. Its extremely likely that Lorettas was as far as he'd ever go anyway so there's no need to worry about burning bridges in the industry. I mean in the end the kid made the decision to not buy it. He realized that the repercussions were way more severe than the bike was worth. Truthfully that’s what Matt walker was telling him by saying it’s an unwritten rule. You know if you do that to a team there’s gonna be repercussions. Yamaha could have just said nope your not taking it and loaded it up and took it back to the shop. Maiden would have had to deal with the consequences. So Yamaha just turned around and said ok you can buy this bike, but this will be your consequences. Everybody saying it’s a rule they should have let him take it are so out of touch with the big picture. It’s like people who walk out in cross walks in front of trucks because they have the right to cross and the truck has to stop. The amount of r&d work into those bikes is years and years. That r&d goes into the production bikes over the next few years. @@chadsanner792 you literally just explained why that rule is in place, lol. The rule is there so factories don’t send their too secret stuff to an amateur race and keeps the playing field somewhat level. If they want to risk it and use their factory parts, then they’ve signed up for a chance that someone can go and claim that bike fair and square. The rule has been there for forever. Maybe it needs to be revamped, but the kid did nothing wrong and it sounds like he was feared into not going through with the claim. The Deegan’s really shouldn’t have been involved with this anyways because it’s not their bike. They have nothing invested into it. It’s the teams bike and they chose to run the bike they did and they got called on it. To punish a kid for not following an “unwritten” rule, and following the actual sanctioned rule by the governing body of our sport, just further drags on the the appearance that this sport will never be as big as it should be. It’s crazy to think that with LL just happening and everything going on in the pro championships, this is the biggest news that everyone is focused on right now

This same exact same thing happened in the late 70's and 80's between Gary Scott and the factory Harley Davidson flat track team. But the AMA was not happy when someone would try and claim a factory bike as H-D ran the AMA. The AMA would let a bunch of counter claims pour in so it would dilute the pool and chances of the original claimant getting the engine as only the engine was claimed back then. And to top it off Gary Scott was a former factory rider but the factory made sure it was not in line to get any parts form H-D.

Claiming is generally used in spec class or limited class racing, where there are major rules about modifications to keep cost down. The question I have is why is Deegan even riding in a class that has that option? They have no issues with funding and sponsorship money, and will always have the best of the best. If you’re running against him you know that he does have the best available and if there is a claim rule, it’s the easiest way to get ahold of the best equipment available without having the name, talent or money. Also, for those that don’t know in most cases of where a claim can be made, the owner of the claimed does have the option to refuse the claim, however, that will ban them from running in that class/series ever again, at least in every class I’ve been in where a claim option is there, that is how it was. If Deegan never planned on running in that class again, so be it, he might have been able to refuse the claim and be on his way. If this particular case is where they have no option to refuse, then this can actually say something about the morals of Deegan, but, if they can, you would too and you know it if it was an option.

Taking someone’s bike whether it’s pro built or not should make anyone mad, then they have to go replace and build a new bike.. they could have races or training in the coming days or numerous other things and just the hassle of having to reach the bike is enough to be pissed at..

So long story short, people cheat! My cousin ran late model dirt cars, he claimed a supposed 15 to 20k motor turned out to be a professionally built 65k Hendricks.. thats why they have these rules in place! Its an unfair advantage! Tec guys should do a better job monitoring the racers.

Cheating or not there is a rule in place that its MSRP x2. There should be absolutely no company aftermarket or team that is spending more than MSRP x2 on these amateur bikes. The rules are in place to help keep the playing field level, and it's been over 20 + years since the playing field was even close. The dream of Amateur racing is completely dead and is nothing but a money suck.

I'm 37. Grew up in racing. Family had a dealership. I was able to ride a motoxxx 450 bike only one time back in 07. Big bird was a good teacher. I was a upper c rider and never felt power like that from a 04 crf450. He said was training is everything. Guys I'm up in the air on this. There is a lot riding on this video. It's star yamaha. U never see tomac in any deegans videos bc of this training. Hell Webb would show up and pass me, and I was on 450, like I was standing still along with Osborne and they were on 85s at our private track in SC. It's a double egde sword. I give props to him coming out on this video. Guys just remember that there is a lot of technology that teams pay for to not get out. Hell I went to jgr training facility in 08 for ride day and was amazed at the prototype foot pegs they had! They old 2stoke days are gone. Efi technology that they have is crazy. Just putting in my 2 cents. It's hard but hear both sides before you throw rocks. It's like this in every motor sport racing, Nascar, drifting, f1, hell even sxs mud events with nitrous. Nobody want to give up the edge.

The reason that rule exists is to make racers think twice about cheating. Claiming is done on regular bases, where stock engines are required.
@djjazzyjeff1232
@djjazzyjeff1232 Год назад
Well that, but also for exactly this reason. AMA doesn't want factory teams racing $100k+ motorcycles with one of a kind prototype tech racing in amateur races. Leave that stuff for the big pro nationals. Should make factory teams think twice about not only cheating (I don't think they were, I don't know anyone who does) but these situations too.

No one claims factory bikes. It's unsaid rule. Plus this is mod class. Mods are allowed.
@cw93711
@cw93711 Год назад
@@djjazzyjeff1232 nothing was 1 of a kind or prototype. Star is the factory Yamaha race team. Deegan is an employee /rider of there's. Bike was probably worth 50k. The biggest issue was the ECU. But if he just wanted to ride the bike and film a you tube video riding it. He could have asked haiden and just gone to California and ridden on deegans track with haiden and huck and probably Brian and then played with there can ams etc. But kid did lie about being alone in room with tim and Brian as the head of ama was in the room with them. As the office they were all in was his office, Tim's office and 1 other person's also. Great article in racerx about this. But also Schofield signed a document with Star Yamaha that says he wasn't pressured at all. So... This is confusing. His dealer only says they told him it was a bad idea as it's unwritten rule to not claim factory team bikes. Only happened 3 times before this. Plus why haidens, why not the other star Yamaha rider. Or the other 5 or so teams. PS factory engine is legal in mod class, it's not cheating. But deegan supposedly ran last race with stock engine and ran fastest times of year at LL Next year he will be pro. Deegans only wanted the bike cause it was his last race at Loretta Lynn's. They keep all the special bikes
@djjazzyjeff1232
@djjazzyjeff1232 Год назад
@@cw93711 I totally understand and agree with everything you said. But what you didn't mention was the actual rule, the rule goes like this: Any rider's bike can be claimed for double the MSRP. The motivations of the kid couldn't be more meaningless. Fact of the matter is, those are the rules. If you don't like them, you're welcome to not race there. A guy like Haiden Deegan could very easily completely skip Loretta's and all AMA Amateur Nationals for that matter and still have a long promising pro career. Or, Stock bike, throw suspension on it for his weight, and he'd still win every moto barring mechanical issues. Then when some jackass claims his bike, cool, they spent $17k on a bike worth $10k. The way I see it is because of the rule, Loretta's is essentially slapping a $17k sticker on every bike. If your bike is worth significantly more than that, or you're worried about secrets being leaked, you're pretty god damn stupid if you still show up to race it. The Deegans claim to not know about the rule, maybe that's true. But that doesn't matter either. Ignorance of the law works the same way, doesn't matter if you didn't know you couldn't have anything hanging from your rear-view mirror in Minnesota but you can in Iowa, the Trooper in MN will still write you a ticket either way. I see this in the same light.
@justlucky8254
@justlucky8254 Год назад
@@djjazzyjeff1232 another reason why Deegans claim about not knowing the rule doesn't matter is because it's not exactly his bike. It's not like he bought it off the showroom floor and built it himself. The kid shoulda got the bike, nobody should've been allowed to question him in any way, especially not in random sidebars, and anybody making a claim should be able to remain anonymous if they wanted. The rule is a good rule but it needs to be amended to prevent bullshit like that from happening next time. And I'll bet that we won't have to wait long for the next claim or even multiple claims at the same event.
