John meets up with another ANTI-GUNNER to discuss her hangups about guns before taking her to the range to show her what guns are really like. Most people seem to be anti-gun through a lack of education, a bad experience, or because they've been misled by a biased media agenda. The more we are willing to have friendly conversations around the subject of firearms, the more likely we are to reach a concession, maybe even change minds.
Keep an eye out for more videos along this line of thinking as we love to hear people's thoughts on the subject... and most importantly, entertain you guys with great content.

Absolutely. I come from a family that has multiple veterans. At least one family member per war, starting with WW2. So I've grown up around firearms. Learned very early on that guns are not bad. The level of danger depends 99.99% on the level of maturity the person operating it posses. With more people teaching firearm safety and responsibility at more local locations could make all the difference in the support of our 2nd Amendment.

Here is my story: I have my CHL and I carry just about everywhere I go. Two years ago, I started dating a girl. I had no clue that she was against guns and people carrying guns. She had no clue that I was a "gun guy". The subject never came up since I never brought my weapon with me on our dates since there would be alcohol involved. Fast forward about 6 months, I went over to her mom's house to hang out with her and her family. I had my weapon on me at the time and I honestly didn't think much of it since I always assumed she and her family were ok with it. I was very wrong. Her mom was very much against guns and them being present in her house. Her house, her rules. Got it! To be respectful, I put my gun in my truck and went back in. If I wanted to win them over, I'd have to the slow and gentle approach. Over the next few months, I would occasionally bring up the topic of guns, gun control, ect.. during conversation. I found that my girlfriend doesn't like guns because some numbskull took her to the range to "change her mind" and would yell at her for not doing it right. From what I heard, he had no patience and made the experience a living hell for her. I told my girlfriend that if she is willing, I would take her to the range and just show her basic gun safety. Just the basics of guns to help her understand that even though it can kill a person, it is just a tool and it is the action of the person holding it that determines what the firearm does. She agrees under the condition that if she doesn't like it, I will never bring it up again. I told her, "DEAL!" The following week, I took her to an outdoor range with a tac-bay. Brought my 9mm pistol, an 22lr rifle, my AR-15, and even my 450 Bushmaster. Started off with a quick class on range safety. Weapon up and down range and all that stuff. Moved on .22 rifle. Showed her how to hold it, where the safety was (demonstrated the use of the safety), how to load the magazine, and most importantly, what to expect when the trigger is pulled. I had her fire the first few shots while I had my arms wrapped around her and my hands helping her hold the weapons... Honestly, I did it just in case she lost it when the shot went off and I didn't want her swinging a live weapon around. She shot the .22 and was fine with it. Spent some time plinking with it and worked on her aim a little. Moved on to the AR-15 and repeated the same steps. No problem! Went through the same with the the 9mm pistol. She did great. She even tried the 450 bushmaster. Spent the rest of the time letting her shoot whatever she wanted. I was thinking she'll just go back to the .22 but nope. She fell in love with the 450 bushmaster. Says that she loves the thump when it goes off. She used up all my 450 ammo.... Fast forward to today, my girlfriend is not a "gun girl" but she understands the uses of firearms and wants to train with me in case she ever needs to defend herself and the kids at home when I'm not around. Her family have come around as well. Her stepdad wants a gun and her brother has a growing gun collection and even wants to get his Concealed Handgun License. **I apologize for the length and my grammar issues

7.11.24. Caudill Subject: Fwd: The Gun is Civilization by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret) No doubt where this Retired Marine stands on the 2d amendment "The Gun Is Civilization" As the Supreme Court hears arguments for and against the Chicago , IL Gun Ban, I offer you another stellar example of a letter (written by a Marine) that places the proper perspective on what a gun means to a civilized society. Read this eloquent and profound letter and pay close attention to the last paragraph of the letter... The Gun is Civilization by Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret) Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that's it. In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some. When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender. There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we'd be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger's potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat--it has no validity when most of a mugger's potential marks are armed. People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that's the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly. Then there's the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don't constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that's as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn't work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn't both lethal and easily employable. When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act. By Maj. L. Caudill USMC (Ret) So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. ❗️👍🏼

Patriotic Cat I understand your point, but a legitimate argument might be to raise the legal age of obtaining a license. I mean, let’s be real here. When I was a teen, I was probably the safest teen driver I knew, and I was still unsafe. Teens haven’t fully matured yet and they don’t appreciate the consequences of getting sloshed and driving to Walmart. The same thing can be said of the gun debate. Her biggest problem is her lack of knowledge into the subject of guns. That made it scary for her. The solution to this perception problem that a lot of people share might be to require some sort of class that teaches and trains people about the type of gun they are looking to buy. Btw, I’m very pro gun, and I own several, but I can understand her fear. That fear colors her misconceptions

It's actually really easy if you befriend people first, and dont get argumentative. I litterally got two Russian immigrants at my community college to go out into the woods with me. One dude was mag dumping my binary scorpion after like three dry lessons. He immediately grasped the concept of flipping safety on and off, muzzle discipline was better than many overconfident people, he figured out magnifiers on my ar pretty quick. And he ended up liking my bersa 22 and 22mp5 the most 😂. He liked being able to precisely shoot. He did get same m9 I taught him with when he got his citizenship. He might have gotten the m9a1 actually. I found him a good deal. The girl wasn't as quick, but by the end, I didn't need to be hands on, just supervise out of my own paranoia over everyone's safety. Idk if it's cultural but they legitimately listened and followed directions, along with understanding why seemingly extra steps were necessary precautions.

I can appreciate this 100%. I come from a law enforcement family. I also grew up in NYC so I largely was never exposed to any type of gun. My mom owned 13 of them but I have not seen a single one growing up, only the occasional bullet laying around in her purse. I know nothing about them nor the safety involved. I had no interest in guns growing up and New York has very strict gun regulations which ended any conversation about guns before it started. I am now a brand new gun owner, having moved to Pennsylvania 3 years ago WALKING DISTANCE to a gun range and store. My wife brought up the idea of going to get our concealed carry licenses and owning a gun. I was very apprehensive but I was ok with it. We went to the range and familiarized ourselves with them. My first gun I ever shot was a Glock 19. I was afraid and paused the first time I inserted the magazine in. Pulling the trigger thecfirst few times made me no longer fear it but respect the power of the firearm. My nephew last week decided to take mr to the gun range and surprised me last week with purchasing a gun for my birthday. I have a Canik TP9SC. I was surprised on the ease of the purchasing process and how quickly the background check was. A whole new world has opened up for me and I'm learning as much as I can and will become a regular at the range!

I have a success story to share: My wife's best friend, and my wife, were both in an active shooter situation at thier high school. They heard the gun shots on the floor above them, and heard the hero janitor take action, and lose his life. My wife's friend's husband has a CCW. Any time he cleans his gun, his wife had to leave the ROOM, because, and rightfully so, she was scared to death of firearms, knowing full well what that TOOL is capable of. I happen to have a shooting range on my property. He came over to train (...and kinda needed to...), with wife in tow. I approached her, and offered her the chance to shoot an airsoft gun. "OK, here's the deal. This is an airsoft gun. It shoots a 6mm plastic BB, with air. Think NERF gun. I'm going to shoot my hand *shoot hand*. No boom, no explosion, no recoil. I want to make this available to you. If you aren't interested, we are done. I will not shame, harass, or pressure you. But if you would like to give it a shot, pun intended, I would love to assist you with it." She took the bait. We then moved up to 22lr, 9mm, 38 special. By day's end, she emptied 5 shots from a 38sp, cleared it, put it on the table, asked" Which one of these is loaded?", picked up a Shield, loaded the mag, racked the slide, and put all shots on a 10" paper plate at about 20ft. Unfortunately, I am constantly blamed by them and wives alike for...financial hardships...associated with a new collecting hobby. :D Most of them got a firearm and continued on to get CCWs.

It's a bit more complicated than that just so you know. Also you can't carry in Mass, NY, or NJ among others. Heck you probably can't carry in CT. My CT resident permit covers CT that's it my Utah non resident covers 36 other states not including Mass, NY, NJ, Cali and Hawaii among others. I believe RI is very strict as well but the point is you can't carry in commie states or you end up like me where a mag of hollow points that I left in one of my bags gets me felony charges because I was caught while heading on a trip with my father (apparently it happens a lot). My permit didn't mean shit to the state of NJ they still charged me and indicted me with the knowledge I was about to enter the military (that's on hold till the charges are expunged), and I have no criminal record. The officers were super nice, but at the end of the day you can't just carry in "commie" states unless you are doing it knowing that your risk felony charges if caught.

They do BAWN is puppeteered with Bloomberg donations, Hoag is a spokesman who once pondered if 1A should be struck from the constitution along with 2A so 2A proponents wouldnt be able to protest and at least identify that 2A is necessary for 1A along with all the inconvenient facts that constitute punishing the public for the actions of an individual. This is a child (given a free ride to Harvard w his friends) trying to dismantle the constitution. If you believe the rhetoric, barring 2A would be enough, except in a communist regime, getting rid of guns is only the start. They DO know what gun control laws are and what the constitution is, which is why they choose to undermine it for the sake of agendas. Public safety is a red herring focused on feelings and not facts meant to throw off the gullible who waste time challenging it. But when you consider old right wing republicans supporting 2A dying out from old age against a growing portion of the youth vote who don't regard 1A or 2A with respect and influenced by communism, its clear our schools are indoctrinating people against their own good. They never do show in text books the gun confiscations at Wounded Knee, pre-WWII Germany, and Venezuela of whom had been lauded as a commie paradise until it was ignored when it collapsed in on itself. The Jews were the ones who needed an education on the history of firearms confisctions, not the Nationalist Socialist Party (the real nazis); those guys had all the education they needed. Its simple, disarm a wide populace you wish to subjugate for fear of "public concern", exterminate. So I disagree, I think socialists and communists know exactly what gun control laws are current or otherwise, and gun control seems to work very well when you're the boot and not the ass, ask how easy it was for Nazis to take over Europe except for Switzerland whom had every citizen armed. Ask about the soldiers who executed disarmed Indians, many women and children and the whole Trail of Tears thing. Ask Venezuelans if they like their economic paradise being jettisoned along with their ability to defend themself against a failed government. Then ask what the people on the street who believe in"common sense" gun laws if they knew actual assault rifles have been banned for decades, how many dead people constitute a mass shooting, and whether or not pistols have been used in more public shootings, and then ask if matters of public safety supercede the constitution which is why we live in a county that justifies mass surveillance against American citizens under the auspices of catching terrorists and how often in history police states do more harm to the general public than weaponry and legislation dictating the degree by law someone may defend their life against the threat of incarceration and legalities so Draconian, you're made to feel that relegating your personal safety to the state is somehow more comforting. The only people who don't have a clue are the people getting reeducated on the news.

I’ve noticed pretty commonly that someone might want to learn to shoot will go and ask a friend to teach them and that friend has no idea how to teach some how to shoot (which isn’t either persons fault) but they will start them out with guns that they are used to shooting which might be a 12 gauge or a hunting rifle or something like that and the one learning just isn’t prepared for that and either the recoil or the sound scares them and then they don’t wanna learn anymore. When it comes to immigrants from other South American countries, particularly from Venezuela, you're dealing with people that have not had the history of weapon availability and 2nd amendment that the US has. When I first came here I was skeptical about the American "gun culture". But it was through careful research, reading and dialogues like this one that I was able to understand and move forward in my understanding of guns. As an immigrant I can tell you, any immigrant that is seemingly "anti-gun" is so because of ignorance, not conviction. Also, I'll tell you a little bit what's happening in Venezuela. First, we never have had something like a 2nd amendment. In fact, we have had the legacy of imperialist control over arms. The government is the king, and the only one allowed to possess firearms. Civilians have grown used to the idea of firearms belonging to either the state or the outlaw. Secondly, the recent tyrannical administration has only made it worse, by passing laws that explicitly forbid the buying of firearms and restrict their use to the military and police. Yet firearms are rampant in the streets through ilegal means. Therefore everyone has firearms, except for the law abiding citizen, which makes for the highest rate in murder in our country, even worse than a war zone. And obviously makes it impossible for any type insurrection to have any type of real significance.

@erikvaldur3334

And this is exactly what our government is trying to do to us here. Them trying to take guns from law obideing citizens will not take guns out if the criminals hands. It will only insure law obideing citizens can not defend themselves against the criminals. Only police, government and criminals will have guns if it's up to them. Do you see how they never speak of going after the criminals and gang members guns. Look at N.Y. they have increasingly stronger gun control and have now passed laws that let most criminals go free without posting bail. Our government is trying to be just as you described Venezuela government to be.

well, that story can go boths sides though... Currently czech republic is the only country in europe, that has something similar to the second amendment. And they just implemented that recently. Czechs are very pro gun, pretty much because they can all remember the opressive communist times and dont want that to repeat. The difference is that they already had their revolution, while venezuela is right in it at the moment. Once that is done there will be pro gunners all over the place, I guarantee.

Women are more emotional than practical, though we understand that a gun can be used to protect our families women in general have an instinct to keep themselves and their children away from anything that can be harmful, when you put more weight on emotion than logic you start off thinking everything that can possibly hurt you or your loved ones is bad, it is not until they think in a logical way that they start seeing how a gun can actually make them and their family members safer. The trick to overcoming an anti-gunners irrational fear of guns is to replace that emotional based fear with a practical and logical reasoning based on facts not emotions.

"Smells like Christmas to me.." "Smells like Christmas and Freedom to us. . " YES IT DOES!!! :) loved that. Guns are tools.. when you can take someone's (who's scared of them) attention off the bang and the flash and recoil. and get their focus on how great of a job their doing on their target.. or even close to the target for how new they are to it.. it helps take the mind off the scary and put their mind on the accomplishment. my kids love range time from the moment I took them out.. don't just hand them something and expect them to enjoy it when they know nothing about it.. Explain to them so they know 1st - safety, 2nd - how to use the tool, 3rd - what they should expect when the pull the trigger so they are not caught off guard. then as John did be there to assist, so it not only helps them feel safe, but also confident in the fact you're there to make sure nothing goes wrong for them.. next step.. "Christmas and Freedom" :) Great video.. One main thing that's left out of most of these types of interviews and conversations is when the scared person mentions the possibility of a good person who is able to get a gun turning bad because of bad circumstances.. and having a gun.. The answer should be, if a good person without a gun turns into a bad person because of bad circumstances, that person still has piles of options at their disposal.. a gun is not the 1 and only item to cause harm or death with.. it's been said many times already.. Cars are a very large weapon if used as such.. and they are responsible for way more deaths than guns in the US. especially when you remove the number of deaths by gun that are suicide or by law enforcement, etc.. Hammers are another item that has been used in murders.. a very very common household tool. Impossible to regulate, prevent someone from getting or even stop someone from carrying.. Evil does not require a sharp object or a projectile.. it just requires evil and the bare minimum creativity to see literally anything around them and use it for the evil they are going to perform. So, concern for a good guy having a gun because he might go bad is a very ignorant statement when there are many examples that counter that.. Let alone the fact that, THAT is basically the premise of the 2nd amendment. when someone that is good.. and has a gun, but turns bad .. including govt, military, LE, etc.. people who anti-gunners agree SHOULD have guns have the exact same capacity to turn bad for whatever reason, but unfortunately they are the ones with "Power" because people trust them to be the responsible good people.. They forget though.. those people in power are still PEOPLE.. just like the rest of us..

JeremyF4i I know exactly what you mean there in your second paragraph. I had a girl who I had taken to the range once, and other than that, she’d never been. So she was safe, and knew the basics of handling the firearm. I had my Savage axis Xp in .223, and I ran 5 rounds through for accuracy, showing her everything about positioning when shooting prone, good technique, breathing, and trigger squeeze...When I put her on the gun, at 100 yards, her very first 5 round string was a 1 1/2 inch group. I was like ‘holy mother of god woman’. The really funny part was when she ran like 3 or 4 more strings, getting about 1 1/2 inch groups each time, and I asked “Having fun?” And she was responded “Yeah, but I’m pissed, my groups are worse than yours”, and she was 100% serious...naturally, I was taken aback, and responded “I’ve been doing this since I was 4...I’ve fired 10’s of thousands of rounds. With that gun, I can shoot like, a 3/4 inch group, on a good day, with good wind, good ammo, and a little bit of luck. Seeing you come out here and shoot those groups, your first time shooting for accuracy, is making me feel pretty crap about myself. Those are absolutely mindblowingly incredible.” But yeah...the abilities of people who listen and apply what they learned to the letter in shooting can be absolutely astounding.

@@blitzwing1 Well, if you're a hunter, a gun is a tool. But that's a specific type of gun. They're also a tool of self defense. Cops and soldiers use them to defend themselves. They can also be offensive weapons, but that is up to the people themselves. A gun's never killed anyone on its own. People kill people. Guns just make it easy. I'm from Canada, our gun laws are fairly draconian, but there's still room to play and have fun and also go hunting. It's just we have to play responsibly. The largest amount of deaths in Canada from guns, is suicide. Which i mean is pretty bad, but I can understand not wanting to be in this world anymore. Some people just don't have it to keep going, but regardless. Guns are not bad intrinsically. They just exist. What people choose to do with them, and if more people have access, then after a certain point it gets safer. Look at texas. Sure there's crime there, but if someone pulls a gun, chances are Beatrice in her lil purse has a makarov and is gonna nail you nine times in the skull. That to me feels safer than if someone takes out a gun, my guns are at home, in a safe. Sure my guns are safe, but I can't defend myself with them.

I'm also from Venezuela and an avid gun owner here in the US. I perfectly understood what she meant with her expression. Yes... today, you better have a firearm in Venezuela, mind you illegally!. It's the Wild West out there. There's a bit of a language barrier there where it wasn't obvious she was talking about the actual situation on the ground and not the legality of owing firearms in the country. Hugo Chavez, just like Hitler did, made sure all firearms were illegal in civilian's hands. That's why he did everything he did and his successor followed suit. One weird thing Chavez did at one point was to buy a million AK-47 from Russia and 'armed his civilian militias'. At least that is what he wanted the internationally community to believe, starting with the US just trying to send a message in case anybody was dreaming about invading Venezuela. The truth was that these were used as propaganda and the military brought them out to film a bunch of videos showing fisherman and old folks having AKs and ready to react at a moments notice. At the end of the filming they were all collected again by the military. Only 'selected authorized' civilians, including employees of the national oil company (PDVSA) were allowed to keep them at home... so I was told.. For awhile, PDVSA employees who had these AKs were forced to attend a weekly drill where they 'learned' military' tactics to defend the homeland from potential invaders. A real comedy show that was not really funny to most of us. Going back to the gun haters, I think she hit the nail on the head.... misinformation reigns supreme. You'll believe what the media wants you to believe. I have had some real heated arguments with family members that have criticized me for loving guns in general and supporting the 2nd Amendment. Heated because I have counter-argued all of their anti-gun points and just drives them nuts when they can't come up with any more bullet points to prove I'm wrong. I'm not wrong, that's the point... but, I'll respect their beliefs. All I ask is for them to respect mine. Agree to disagree.
