Very sad but true. Rc v2 doesn't feel a supershoe in terms of energy return and efiency. Fuelcell is a smooth and very comfy foam but not similar or bouncier as FFTurbo, ZoomX, PWRpb or Lightstrike Pro. The problem is the foam. Upper, fit, laces and geometry on v2 are really competitives but the lack of elasticity of the foam makes them stick together too much to be effective.
I set PR's in half and full marathons with the RC Elite v2, over Nike and Saucony. They're also an excellent training shoe for long run workouts. They have a special place in my heart and I can't wait to get my hands on these.
And that is absolutely great to read, Jeremy. There is no shoe that is "right" for everyone and I'm pretty sure the SC v3 will help many runners get new PBs
I've tried all the Nike, Adidas and Saucony carbon shoes and always been a Nike man, but right now I can't see past this shoe and all I run in and have 3 pairs. Fast, comfortable, light, love it
Great review. The RC v2 worked well for me in terms of fit, more flexible plate (between other stiffer CF and nylon), and cushioning. If the v2’s ever go on sale I’ll make sure to snag another pair.
Good review, is the heel firm? Strava says that I have use the RC Elite V2 the most 🙄.. However I do feel like the heel in the RC Elite V2 is unstable at my slow pace and I really miss the rocker like in the Speed 2 ⁉️ I do have some lock down issues in the 1080V12 because it's a bootie construction. I know it's not what it's made for but once I pass the 60k per week I just use the RC Elite V2 for recovery and slow long runs. The shock absorption is the best.
So few points: 1) yes fuelcell has a great shock absorption capacity. No reason not to take advantage of it on slow runs (it do that in the SC trainer), 2) heel is soft and rather unstable, 3) this fit should work for you but again it’s not super secure. Hope this helps
@@AlexFilitti Thanks, I have trouble with shoes that weigh more than 260 gr... I use the 1080V12 (nice rocker) and Nimbus 24 (stable but little energy return and no rocker) but I have a point where the road ends and I have to walk 15 meters and start running. Starting shows me whichever shoes keep me fresh.. First is the Hyperion Tempo, followed by Speed 2 followed by Mach 5 and then Speed 3 & RC Elite V2. I think I need a SC trainer on a DIET, 320gr will kill me 🙄.
Hi@@i.p2088, I saw your Hyperion comments on @OldManRunner - asics GlideRide has a great rocker - perhaps it's not light enough but the rocker rocks! And second your view on RC 2 - for me a perfect long run shoe - and perfect for a slow mara.
My first run in the RC v2 was like WoW 🤯 second run was like ... okay.. third was meh .. and now its benched .. I'm not even considering fuelcell shoes anymore 😕 Fresh foam isn't my ideal foam either . Great video Alex
@@AlexFilitti no yeah I loved the rebel first aswell and when I got better at running noticed it was good for my legs . . Just bought the deviate nitro puma wich served me super well 👌 I'm considering the triumph 20 but still not sure . Might just wait for the nimbus 25 instead still enjoying the novablast 3
Sisson deciding to use sc pacer tells the story that this shoe wasn't as good. Kind of disappointing. But I got a pair of pacers and they actually feel really nice.
Amazing review! Does the sc v3 fit exactly the same as the rc elite v2??? She we stick with the same size?? You mentioned it was maybe a bit looser? Appreciate it so much
@@AlexFilitti Thank you so much for your reply! All my rebel v2s add my RC elite V2s are size 11. I just wanted to be sure because where I live it’s gonna be hard to obtain the shoe I’ll be lucky to get it one time let alone order the wrong size lol! Appreciate you so much my brother
@@AlexFilitti Just wanted to say thanks again!! I got lucky and got a pair before just before they sold out of my size 11 here in the US!! I’m just praying they feel the same as my RC elite v2!! Appreciate it so much
I do wonder with these "super" shoes that they are seemingly designed for the elite athletes of the relevant shoe company but do they necessarily have mass appeal. I mean a lot of runners seem to prefer the Alphafly v1 over the v2 and yet Kipchoge shows that you can run a world record in the v2. Kind of similar with the likes of Alex Yee - arguably the fastest runner in triathlon seems to do just fine in the RC Elite v2. Not sure if he now uses this one - quick Google indicates he might have been using a prototype. I think, like a lot of people, I did find the v2 nice to run in but not necessarily one that felt overly quick as was so soft. That said when I did "try" I went better than I imagined. Having a narrow foot the v2 did not fit me that well laterally so what you are saying here seems worse. That's another frustration with New Balance - they make their best selling shoes in 4 widths but their "performance" ones on a take it or leave it basis. Then again that applies to everybody.
Thanks for your comment Tim. The mere fact Alex Yee is racing in a custom version says a lot...not a proto version but a custom version of an existing shoe. Adapting - this is my guess - a good long run shoe to the needs of super fast and shorts runs. Same goes with Emily Sisson in Chicago it seems
@@AlexFilitti TBH not too sure with Alex as what I found seemed a few months ago so, by definition, unlikely he could be using a production shoe that has only just come out. Anyway the UK 13.5 in this was greyed out when I checked NB UK site this AM so I can at least save my money!
@@TimGrose UK size 13.5 is equivalent to the US 14, which is available here in the US, in wide version as well. I’m not sure why NB UK didn’t carry you size. Probably sold out? At least you know you’re not the only one with big, long feet 😅
@@wonkydonkey7899 ah that's good to know. On the NB UK site I looked on the day of release and that size (and only that size) was greyed out so may have sold out but, even so, clearly had very little stock. On other vendors they just were not carrying it at all. That is quite common here. Never saw the Pacer in that size either.
I was late buying the elite v2 and coming from the alphafly one I prefer it. I do pronate a bit which the v2 does exaggerate but some innersoles sorted that issue and now it's just speed and softness which I like. I'm obviously no pro runner though so I can't really feel any speed being lost but I can feel my legs and feet getting an easier time.
Where did you get them from Alex?....NB are releasing these in the US in Ltd quantities tomorrow, but I have seen a few reviewers reviewing these already.
hey! I live in Brazil. I'm a fan of your page.. I've watched a lot of your videos. I would like your opinion on a subject: At the end of last year I had ITBS (ilotibial syndrome). I think it was because I was running with the Rebel 2. The only shoe I had. The problem is that I loved that shoe. running has never felt so good. I'm thinking about buying the Rebel 3. But I don't know if I should. My question is: For the first time I'm going to do a rotation. I thought about rebel3 but I'm scared. So I thought of a speed3 for training and the NB SC elite3 for running in the hope that it would be similar to the rebel. but I also read a lot about Endorphin pro3 , metaspeed SKY+, adidas pro3 or takumi s9... I'm really in doubt. could you help me? My run is 4:45 per Km and my trainings are HIT and trainings are from 5 to 15k. My runs are 5k and 10k. what do you suggest me?
Hi Alex, You are spot on. Hit the nail square on the head. The upper on this shoe really sucks. The integrated tongue bunches up into big rolls under the laces!!! DIsgusting. Because the tongue has nowhere to go, it is EXTREMELY hard to get my feet through the opening. It just as hard to get these off my feet. Ridiculous. The opening just aft of the tongue does not go down steeply enough nor far enough to clear my ankle bones. The edge of the material is not finished; it is rough. It feels like it is trying to saw my lateral side ankle bones. Painful. Funny thing... It DOES have quite nice toe box and heel counter. Can't comment on the ride.... no way I felt like running in these.... Thanks so much for your honest review.
What about converting it to short races? I do remember it was really explosive on track workouts. Just like the Rebel² but more stable (because of the plate). Still, an expensive 5k shoe. Still, I found more explosives in Vaporfly - 5, 10 & 21km And still, I'm undecided over the marathon shoe, the first marathon! As a midpack runner I expect a time of 3h35-45m Would you say the RC Elite will do better (than Vaporfly) ? Just these 2 considered. Unless 🤔 ...a dark horse gets the ride (quite literally - a whole black Endorphin Speed) ☻️
Did two sessions on the track with it. Both disappointed big time (mostly because of the fit) but also because the midsole is not efficient enough at faster paces for me. My gut feeling would be to go for the VF for your marathon. That being said for the time you're shooting for, I believe both options you're considering would provide you with a similar advantage.
Thanks @@AlexFilitti i will follow the gut feelings. Mine is the same. Although I know its not the early benefits but the late race hurdles that count. The shoe may add up the troubles. I will count on my legs and head. 👍
A very expensive cushioned long run shoe. The colourway is very America which fits for the NYC marathon. I could also see Spider-Man rocking a pair of these. This year, I’m still holding out for the Rebel v3. I have no need for this or the SC Trainer (especially at those prices). Thanks for the review and for spending your own money so we don’t have to.
Haha always happy to save you some money ;) no but seriously I think other people commenting here are right, the problem is the Fuelcell foam itself. It’s a long run type of foam. Nothing wrong with it except that it’s not very competitive. Thanks for your comment, Andy
The upper looks like the rebel V1..I always like that type of upper in a long run shoe..not so great in a cross country type or race course that has lots of corners..Elite V2 is a very comfortable shoe but the forefoot give up after 10mi to 12mi..it's a fine line between too soft and not soft enough..the only shoe I ever ran that can be that middle ground is the alphafly..all the other super shoes are hard or soft..soft wears out your legs or hard wears out your feet and joints..definitely will be trying the elite V3 but not overly optimistic..at the least it should be a good long run shoe like saucony endorphin pro 3..
I was waiting for this (choosing between the endo pro 3 ) but i saw a review about the reviewer wishing they followed the sc trainer mid set up (soft fc up a bit firmer below. (I think they said this was the opposite and flipped) so i went with the endo pro 3 . V2 was good but wished it could be faster. Would a 1/2 size down helped the fit of the upper? I agree the fit of the trainer was good but tried it 1/2 down
Half down would likely be short on this one. And I think for most Endorphin Pro 3 will be superior so I think you made the right decision. Thanks a lot for your comment, Marc.
Lolll TCS branding on a wide release shoe, in the name of “nyc marathon colorways” Big oof New Balance. There was undoubtedly money exchanged. TCS treats offshore workers in terrible conditions unethically. If u know u know. That’s nothing against you Alex, love your reviews and you had the best TRE content easily!
To really put all the negative review in context, at least you should be showing an actual run on the shoes. This is your first review that I don’t like.
Not super shoes.. but worn by.... capture from the web "We’ll get to those in a minute, but first let us tell you that these shoes are worn than none other than British aces Alex Yee and Georgia Taylor-Brown."
@andrew butler she used the RC1 for the half record. She raced in the RC1 for a long time, first I’ve seen her use something that wasn’t the RC1 and it looked like a white-out SC Pacer
@@KoIhara Maybe. Lots used to race in the 1400 and 1500 and the body adjusts. If you switch everyone cold turkey, then yes, but with some time to re-adapt to less shoe then I’m sure many people will be just fine in the SC Pacer.
They're different shoes to be honest. I wouldn't use the two for the same purposes. But they're close indeed. And that's something weird in NB lineup for sure.
