I almost bought this shoe last month, but I chose the Peregrine 12 instead due to lighter weight. Love the 12! Thanks for this review, I will definitely be waiting for it to drop on Joe's New Balance Outlet. Discount DGR STRONG!

I thought that website was a known scam. Have you had good experiences?
@MojoShock
@MojoShock Год назад
@kalvin. yes I was satisfied, only down side is no free returns, you pay for it to be shipped back if not satisfied. It's an outlet store, so not surprised. My wife and I both got a 1080v11 for 80 bux each! I'm a 13 wide and only have option to buy online. This is a great site if you know your size and fit, and follow Seth for his shoe reviews.

@kalvin Hwang I buy all my running shoes from Joe's New Balance Outlet. Def not a scam. I've actually got a pair of an older model of the Summit Unknown from there and love them. I usually pay less than $50 for my shoes. I'm not that picky on models as I am one of the lucky people who can run in almost any shoe.

The Fuelcell foam here is very different formulation that what we can find on the road shoes (rebel for example). Not a bad thing, but just for folks not to get wrong expectations. It’s a denser foam, which makes it on the heavy side for the use case, but the ride is still quite dynamic. A no non sense shoe.
@DomSchiavoni
@DomSchiavoni Год назад
Yea, i wouldn't expect the super-soft fuelcell to be in a trail shoe! How's the toe-box in these compare to other trail shoes? I'd like to replace my Hoka Torrents and def want something with a bit wider toe-box. (or at least a more secure rear-midfoot to keep toes from jamming in front) Also curious how they fit compared to Salomons offerings like the Pulsar, Pulsar Trail, Pro, & SensRide4 Any more detailed info on these SummitV3's would be appreciated.

thanks for the review! I bought these a few months ago and have been loving them for fast technical runs under ~13 miles. They are also awesome in the snow- definitely my go-to this winter, with great traction and they keep my feet warm. I kept wanting new balance to make a trail version of their prism/rebel road shoes, and this to me feels pretty dang close to that in my opinion! it feels like a lower drop shoe- eg more like 4-6 mm than 10 mm.

Hi Seth, I think I know what you mean by a mid-soft (not squishy) midsole feel. The word that popped in my head was "springy", so that it gives/contracts easily, but definitely recoils/expands lively=springy! Excellent QD: Maybe I`d go with Starship Enterprise. Jean-Luc Picard days... I think an episode started with crew doing laps with expansive windows viewing onto the celestials... just keep swimming/running/spinning!

Summit unknown has had a quiet existence so far seems like for v3. I have 2 pair. Very comfy and trusty shoe, also this FuelCell reminds me more of that of the SC trainer which in my opinion is nicer than the fuel cell in the rebel

I've been using these shoes for a while now (north of 150 miles clocked). Yes the hype is somewhat real but there are 2 MAJOR negative points to be considered before you consider purchasing these: 1. In my opinion the grip is entirely dependent on the shape and structure of the lugs, the rubber compound does not provide adequate friction against slippage, and as a result if the lugs are unable to bite into the ground that you're running on i.e., rocks, wet roots, hard ground, you'll risk losing grip and ultimately your footing. They work well on gravel, sandy surfaces and soft ground where the shape of the lugs matter more than the compound for grip, but beyond that i don't think it can do the job. 2. They provide adequate protection against moisture ingress (not waterproof though), but if you somehow get water into them, well, they don't drain very well at all. For those who think i'm exaggerating... well you can buy a pair and then use them as emergency cups if you're ever lost in the woods and need something to hold water. Having managed to purchase a pair at a very reasonable price (thank you NB), i do take the above caveats into consideration and have managed to fit them into my rotation reasonably well, by taking into account the weather and terrain suited to their use.

@@DomSchiavoni As far as I can recall, they seem to fit wider than a Torrent 2 (which i think are narrow), not spacious by an means but average or just slightly above average for a trail shoes (I hate that as well), but I have had to size up by half to achieve that. I'm sorry I don't have recent experiences in Salomons to provide any comparison except my 2 year old Alphacross, and I would say that the cushioning is definitely better, grip slightly improved, and the Summits work well for multiple types of foot strikes as opposed to the Alphacross which seemed to work better for heel strikes. One final comment, despite the cautionary comments that I have mentioned in my previous post, I would like to add that over a longer running range, these Summits do not seem to flatten out (like Rebel V2s for example) and still provides adequate cushioning throughout my run.

Didn't purchase this shoe as i was recommended to get the NB Heirro instead because it has a slightly softer for foot and i am delighted with it. I live quarter of a mile from the trials and it performs well on the road would highly recommend it.

The old summit unknown was basically just a 1400 with a trail outsole and thicker upper. Way too firm for most people probably. this one looks a lot more accessible to a broader audience. Begs the question why not take this midsole and do the reverse, make a new 1400.

Placed second in a 10-miler in the original Summit Unknown. It was marvelous except that New Balance Trail can’t ever figure out that the toes shouldn’t be squeezed into numbness. NB perceives facilitating toe splay as blasphemy. Please tell me they fixed this, Seth. Otherwise it’s a fine shoe, or so you say ;-)

QoD: Ursa Minor Beta The rich and sunny planet Ursa Minor Beta has the quite peculiar property that most of its surface consists of subtropic coastline. Even more peculiar, on this world it's always Saturday afternoon, just right before the beach bars close. Light City, the only city on Ursa Minor Beta, which can only be reached by plane, is the very place where the editorial offices of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy reside. A further anomaly in Light City is that the Lalamatine district, just behind the beach, is the only place on the planet not to enjoy a perpetual Saturday afternoon. Instead it is always early evening, with cooling breezes - this is where the nightclubs are located. or The White Lodge in Twin Peaks.
