I'm a professional and young brother you have a gift and your already more advanced that so many drummers. Keep up the great work!!! Your going to make it big sooner than you think!!!
I was thinking the same thing. Like everybody has to grow. Leave buddy alone. As good as he is I can tell he'll develop. He probably doesn't even do all of that all the time and is just doing it for the video. I'll also add as much as he was chopping he kept coming back on the 1 so that's good. I know many drummers who do so much and can't even come back on the 1 lol.
Okay. As a musician (keys) and a singer, I enjoy a lively musicians. I really enjoyed him. Having raised a son who is a drummer, I’ve tried to train him in various scenarios that may be required. Ultimately, my biggest and best advice to him is play according to the house you’re in. My son honed his skills in church. The church he attends. If he plays at another one, his style may have to change a bit. Bottom line? Be adaptable. I don’t believe anyone had issue with this young man in the place he was playing. As his experience grows, so will his style. I don’t believe he did anything adverse to this song but play it his way. The way he hears it... as most musicians who play by ear will do. And they give the song their own personality and spice. I understand we all have an opinion and perspective. And those of us who have been in the game a long time need to be able to constructive. If it’s not your style of play, that’s perfectly okay and wonderful. But be constructive and NOT destructive. Musicians get enough of the destructive from those who are not musicians. Well done! I absolutely loved it.
Let me add on to my previous comment..... Young man, you are truly gifted and unique!!! I'm proud to see a fellow drummer giving it up for ministry. I can tell this is your passion. I wish you all the best young King!! 🥁💪🏾✊🏾❤️😊
Way to go, neph Aaron!! This is Uncle Jerome! I an SOOOOO proud of you! You have come a long way and I know continuing growth & development will lead to many more opportunities come! Keep it up!
i can watch this video over and over...the way you play makes me wanna be hyped singing the song, like all into the song..your energy is infectious..lol...keep up the great work
That woman on the left caught my eye I'm not going to lie lol. But I have to agree with that professional drummer who commented before me. This song sounds great with minimal chops and just the pocket. I know because I play this song pretty much every Sunday lol. But you are very good brother just learn what I'm learning self control and the pocket will get u paid not chops and licks.
too much show aha🚮😏 Yes we gotta praise God with out talent but on his altar hes the One To Shine And Stand Out 👏 not the drummer or any worshipper🙅 But yehh he'll learn that as he grows aha😏 blessings
Most drummers always want to stand out... Y'all supposed to hold the groove down... you've gotta hold the bottom down with the bassist... That's the most important part...
Prince Delong say that again! I play bass at my church and I can't stand it when my drummer loses time trying to look hard and not pay attention. Looking down and stuff and putting chops where they don't belong and not coming back on the 1🤦🏾♂️
I won’t even hate on the young man for all the chops because in Time he’ll understand how to approach music as professional musician. His fills are really good though and when he puts it all together he’ll be playing for a BIG TIME artist sooner than later
Carl Francis I just wanted to let y’all know (if we bash) the youngster that’s not making him any better (Showing him off) to drum workshops and local clinics will completely change his behavior. . . . - Great review
you're not wrong and I mostly agree but different types of playing appeal to different people, I play rock/metal and a lot of people like it, some don't, that's life. What I'm saying is that chops and lots of fills will appeal to people, I personally like the use of chops and fills throughout the song, it fit the song, he's sounding pretty professional in this video, but there are some things he could improve upon
My names Paul, i play for Grace Chapel church in Vancouver & this is one of my fav songs i love to play!.. see I know he will realize the mistakes and more as he grows and where he needs to fix up and lean back to let in some room for the choir. Only in some special occasions you do some feels and chops but i feel like you do a lil too much. Don’t take it like everybody hate you no no man we love to see drummers grow!! and personally I’m still growing So keep playing!! And Learn. Thanks🙏🏽
I’m a professional drummer that has met Vashawn Mitchell’s drummer your chops are pretty good but it’s not always about chopping out. Just words of advice take it how you want but you need explore the field of pocket drumming taking away from the singing with your rolls double and feels will get your feelings hurt in the recording studio
People been telling me those exact words since day 1 We all got a role to play and a lane to stay in... if the guitarist has a solo, its time to fall back and him do him.. but these are some great words of advice!!
I think if he took your words of advice he would be a beast. Cause he has a bag full of chops so we dnt have to worry about that. But if he relaxes sum and play the roll of a drummer, hes gonna go far
Great playing brother! I know a lot of people complained about your pocket presence but I think you got great timing and incredible energy. Keep that energy and enthusiasm because it shows the love you have for the drums. Have fun and God will take you far
Tyree White Amen! It's not always about chops. If he's looking to go pro, he'll need to change up a few things. You don't get hired because of chops. They can actually get you fired.
Kendall Mcgilll facts!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂 He could have play the ....(cowbell) or Woodblock in my case I would ... still want to give this video a 2-thumbs up!!!! 👍🏾 just For the church girlfriend in the “(PINK DRESS) 🤫
The integrity of this song was destroyed by the musicians. Idk what was being played everyone was all over the place. I understand they were having fun but to have this much going on during a service was tasteless. You all shed the entire time. I tried to hear what the bass was doing he was all over the place. the same with the organ, the drummer looked like he just finished watching 10yr old videos of gospel chops. All the beat changes lost the groove and flow of the song. The praise team was chasing after God and the musicians were chasing after the track. Dont get me wrong with guidance and structure this kid has the potential to be a beast. I really hope that someone reaches him to help him become an awesome musician.
nextangel yeeeeees bro!!! Song nearly unrecognizable. Unfortunately , I probably would have let him go after this set. Great chops!!! But this is way overboard
He's not in a studio so let him live. He's having fun obviously they gave him that room to shed out so let him stop hating. That's coming from somebody who plays professionally.
In the beginning of my drumming life I had mentors like Jonathan Dubose legendary guitars for the Hawkins and many more. And he along with other greats said something that I tell every drummer and it's this.. (KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID) K.I.S.S The chops are nice but where's the groove?? Where's the pocket? Has the drummer it's our job to keep the groove....
Man I'm so glad at my age I got to sit up under some great musicians and drummers. My uncle punched me in my shoulder and said keep the pocket boy. These young musicians are dope but they gotta learn to play the song and placement
God bless your talent man but let god use that give. Chops on 1000 but I just finally watched this today and but I pray your mind isn’t too clogged with the praise we give you but that you can be open minded to the advice and constructive criticism of your drumming and that he may elevate you there after in his name. Keep going bro and don’t lose sight on Christ
Everyone is focusing on how bad the cymbals are but on the other hand lets look at it form this point of view. HE'S NOT OUT THERE SELLING DRUGS ON THE STREETS. HE WILL GET BETTER IN DUE TIME. Let's focus on the positive and instead of bashing him, give him some encouragement.
God Child Finally. Someone else noticed. Who da heck on bass?😂😂😂 The way I see it, drummer knew the organ, Bass was going to be what it was so.....he went Ham just because. Sometimes you have to encourage yourself. 😂😂😜
Maaaaaaan I see a bunch of ridicule from most likely washed old musicians. Let the young boy play. I admit the rest of the musicians lost me as to what song was being played. The chops were very tasteful in the beginning. But keep at it bro. Your raw talent is on a full mil. I would KILL to have a drummer like this on Sunday! My drummer can’t even keep time and has 0 chops. As one person said, with the proper guidance this kid can be one of the elite gigging drummers. Just don’t get lost in “church” gigs. That’s where some of the greats lose man.
Very gifted and talented... Always play for the audience of one watching and that Jesus... Enjoy and have fun but always remember it's for the glory of God but man your gifted.... And yes indeed pick your pockets and ride with the song but yo... Thumbs up bro...
He really think he did something with all those chops... my choir played this same song and I’m the drummer and he got all crash symbols 😂the chops and add ins are good but calm it down to much less is better😂😂
He looks like a heavy hitter, and a young kid, so it's likely he's had them for a long time and eventually broken them from hitting them, but isn't old enough to have his own income to buy new ones. Cymbals are expensive, easy to rack up a huge bill when looking to replace 3-4 cymbals, and he's got 7 broken ones, so he'd have to cough up quite a bit of cash.
I remember being a younger drummer and hitting very heavy. Plus I'm a big dude, so that didn't help. Over time I changed how I played. I didn't change to play softer, just more controlled. It has helped me out so much as a drummer and has even gotten me hired because of it. Also my cymbals, sticks and heads last longer. Which is great when you have to buy all your own gear.
Long as he is having fun and on timing with the chops nothing else really matters I enjoy the trashy sound cymbals keep up the good work bro I love the talent.
All his cymbals sound like trash cans Who is playing bass... This is awful!!!!! I would have got off that organ and said what the hell are you playing?!?!?!?
Never read so many judgmental comments from judgmental people. Everything is always analyzed from people who are flawed themselves. He’s a young black man playing drums in church all while smiling and enjoying himself. I’d say he’s winning!
Bro....love the fireworks....and you do have an understanding of space. Just remember all of the great drummers built their careers on fundamentals like bacbeat and feel. That sir is built from the pocket. Keep it up though you'll be fine!
