@@ericradford2142then they move. Sometimes it works other times it doesn't. But don't think u gonna stand up to a billionaire and win. Learn to negotiate 😊
The books should be changed on what’s considered to be nonprofit. How’s a league like the NFL a nonprofit when it’s the most expensive league in professional sports?
Right, it’s not like when stadiums cost about 100 million and teams were worth only 15 - 30 million and players made less than a million a year. You have to be a top 50 richest people in the US or Canada to buy a pro sports team.
I’m a bengals fan there is absolutely no major issues with this stadium. I love it. The only need is the could decorate the plane cement for probably under a million dollars. DG has probably never been there. I don’t care if “people” rank it lower end of nfl stadiums. People have lost their damn minds on stadiums by building a new one every 20 years.
Because some other teams in larger markets get these multi-billion dollar wet dreams for their owners.... So now every medium to small market owner wants that same happy ending... This happens every 25 years. Once the small market teams get their stadiums fixed up, Dallas, and New York will build $20 Billion stadiums.... Then the cycle will begin all over again. Average folks will be priced out of game tickets, because the cost will quadruple for those to offset their massive wet dreams.
Attending an NFL game today is a high end happening, for the better off. 400 dollar seats sushi and a stake. Its a football game grab a beer and a dog and sit the F down.
The stadium location is perfect in concert with great american ballpark. The weather in Cincinnati isnt that bad wither. Just make the current one better in some places or just build a roof like in Miami
Do you really expect Mike Brown of all people to say Yes I’m willing to spend my own money for a new stadium? Hell no, if anything he’d vice grip the city of Cincinnati into a new stadium and would it be in Downtown is a whole other issue on its own
Blah blah blah. Relocate. Who cares. Where exactly do you think you're going? I can't believe how out of touch these team owners are. No one is lining up to build stadiums. The price tag of new stadiums has made NFL teams undesirable. Plus, there's only so many large markets in the country. Two of the bigger markets, St. Louis and San Diego have completely rejected new stadiums.
St Louis had approved plans for a new stadium but kronke didn't want it. That it why he had to pay st Louis almost a billion dollars for how he handled leaving. Stl got screwed and Kronke is the worst owner in professional sports.
Some cities might be willing. Maybe St Louis (they planned to pay with taxpayer money when they had a team), Raleigh, Toronto. Maybe even Portland, Mexico City, and Austin.
NFL is not going to Canada they have said a number of times as long as the CFL is still around they are not going to complete with it. They are not moving to Mexico either for a number of reasons. St. Louis maybe doubtful, SD maybe again no money. Oakland no money. Other places like Texas would be out so there is in reality a very small amount of cities that would work that would not infringe on other teams. You can’t move to Austin or anywhere in Texas. Cowboys and Texans would claim that area, you can’t just stick a team anywhere.
Corporate mindset is quickly ruining sports fans' experiences. I refuse to pay $1K for a weekend in L.A. to see my Rams. How much money does anyone need? Even streaming has become ridiculous with multiple subscriptions needed to see "special" games, including playoffs. People can't afford a home, but the "Bungles" want $300M for a stadium. America has lost its' way.
Was the insult necessary? The whole NFL CORPORATION is greedy read the conduct book for hosting the Super Bowl makes me not even want to attend a game. It’s not only the Bungles. It’s everywhere like why is there a need for 6 sports teams going on 10 in LA cause a lot of celebrities and overpopulated joes live there and they have to pay the taxes anyway.
@@Orlando_Steve it was a figure of speech. But just for you, let me re-phrase: I refuse to pay $1K for a weekend in L.A. to see THE Rams." Is that okay? Is it okay for a female to comment on sports? Don't be so rude.
@natej84 actually i found sound black furniture that does a good job at keeping cool outside and it would only be a problem in late August and early September
This is insane. Most of the NFL stadiums have 10/11 games a year yet these Billionaire owners want the public to pay for renovations and brand new stadiums. Take a hike
@@ericradford2142 what's greedy about it? Let's be genuine, it's a business and one aims to make less losses and more profits when running a business. Any move that reduces expenses as well is a good deal for business.
Listen im for "public funding" but in this situation...unless the Bengals threatened to move to Oakland CA. If im the citizens of Cincinnati..i call the bluff
Yeah there is no place to play in Oakland. Its more of an empty threat. Where exactly could they go ? NFL has very few places to expand to. City should just start saying no. 49ers, Rams both built without public money.
You can't even afford to go to games as a normal person so why should public funds go to this? Let the rich people pay for this with even higher ticket prices. Let them pay $500 per ticket to sit in the nosebleeds and $5,000 per ticket to sit at the 50 yard line. It is all for them anyway.
Or else? Btw the Art Modell law applies to Cincinnati too as well as the laws on the books is for the entire ENTIRE State of Ohio not just the city of Cleveland. They’re not going anywhere.
@@geebee6010It’s not just JJ it would be all the owners. No owner wants a team infringing on their area, Cowboys and Texans own the rights to Texas so no other team is moving in. Just like Florida or any other number of cities. If other teams can claim a loss of business they are not moving a team into that area. SD could be a possibility because they already had a team and that area is effectively abandoned.
If a municipality pays for a stadium, that municipality should immediately take ownership of that team. At the very least, anyone who has ever paid into that municipal system, should get free yearly tickets
IMO, the city/county should have forced FC Cincinnati/MLS to renovate - and share - the Bengals' stadium rather than funding the purpose-built TQL Stadium at $250 million. Absolutely no reason for an NFL and MLS market to build single-use stadiums (same for NBA and NHL markets).
Well a Roof is helps Weather Control so you can do more at the location other then just Football.. more Revenue is earned inside. sorry weather has been little more crazy soo.
The owners can build high dollar suites on the own dime, then let the high dollar people pay for them as they use them. There is nothing wrong with the Bengals stadium which requires a $400M upgrade....and 95% of Bengals fans would likely agree.
The stadium itself isn't bad on the outside. Inside, seating is pretty good but signage to get to the upper deck absolutely sucks. This is from having gone to games this past season.
I’m not disagreeing but it’s barely noticeable from your paycheck! Would be cool to see how much each citizen has contributed over time in their respective cities!
When the Bengals leave town...I lose NO HONOR in being a front-runner fan. But in truth, I will probably just default to geography, and be a Colts fan.
The Bengals contract with the city is pretty lopsided. Crazy how the city is on the hook for anything for any upgrades or remodeling. Literally, they have the city's balls in a vice grip.
I could see the Bengals end up in one of 2 situations: getting no lease renewel and having to move home games to either the Bearcats' stadium or F.C. Cincinatti's stadium before moving out of Cincy entirely or the lease gets extended but ni reno though unless a disaster happens to strike it
It would be absolutely ridiculous to do an open air stadium. Bengals stadium should have been a dome 20 years ago when they did the new stadium. If we had a dome the stadium could make money year round. For 20 plus years money was lost during winter months because no other entertainment can be held in the stadium due to inclement weather. It's a no brainer. Who wants to freeze to death or get rained on after you paid your hard earned money to attend a game or concert. Folks wanna be comfortable. I believe the NFL Owners collectively should pay for the stadiums through their profit sharing. That way small market teams don't risk losing their teams or be put in further financial burden. It's unfair to ask the Hamilton County tax payers to pay for another stadium that many of them have never stepped foot it.
The NFL except for a few teams is unwatchable. Tell these owners to pay for it themselves. And the threat of leaving is laughable. They would leave regardless ala the Rams, if they get a deal, to their liking. Stop giving these billionaires your money and stop voting for tax money for these Stadiums that are a big waste of space for almost the entire year
Dome Dome Dome … but the stadium overall looks good but then again I don’t do the maintenance and maintain a useful stadium … I wish they could dome the current stadium
keep in mind if we the average joe's ask for something we are the deadbeats and the takers. money for roads and schools we can't do that. let these guys pay for their stadiums. we as fans are being priced out any way
All this for 9, maybe 10 home games per season… and a few concerts in only warm weather months. has anyone actually proven out how these newer stadium builds and renovations benefit or hurt the cities financially? Is having a stadium and a NFL team really doing anything for these crumbling rust belt cities?
Mexico City Bengals? London Bengals? Possibly Orlando Bengals. Central Florida is the 17th largest TV market and in a league of 32 teams, we don't have one. Not that I'm saying I want one.
eh, in today's money $300 million is probably conservative for a stadium renovation. other than city infrastructure in and around a stadium/arena area taxpayer funds should not be used for these purposes. there are billion dollar buildings that get built through private financing, so a sport team should be no different. if things don't work out in Hamilton County I could see them move down the river or ever across it to NKY. kinda like the Chiefs/Royals thing KCMO to KCKS. they would still be called the Cincinnati Bengals but would play in Newport, KY. who knows??? I could see Katie moving them to Austin, TX as well if a sweet deal came about
@@abdirahmanazzzer1042 As long as Mike Brown is still around I don’t see them leaving Cincinnati. He is very set in his ways and hates change. His dads team means a lot to him.
Pro sports teams holding local.tax bases hostage. And people who hate paycor stadium forget how just how bad the old riverfront stadium used to be!! And the cincinnati metro doesn't have as much open land as the cleveland metro does, the northern kentucky area has land but that's nowhere near downtown cincinnati.
The only reason this is even a discussion is becasuse the bengals lucked into getting a generational quarterback that is putting people in the seats right when negoitating a new lease needs to happen. The original lease was for so terrible for the City of Cincinnati/Hamilton County and team has done so little for the area that a lot of people don't see the benefit of giving the bengals anymore tax money.
Would have been nice if they had originally built a roofed stadium, but if I remember in ‘96-97 after the tax levy passed, ownership wanted that AFC Central “toughness” of being exposed to the elements, that’s why they’re all open air stadiums. Then again domes were pretty miserable for a pro football feel 30 years ago.
Win a Super Bowl and then come back to the table. Bengals fans pay or else? Attendance isn't the ONLY income. TV, merchandising, advertising, there is much more money pouring in OTHER than just Attendance. Most everything is fan related, especially out of pocket. WIN A SUPER BOWL! Start there and then come back to the table.
There is the Art Model law that was written into law in the State of Ohio that no professional sports franchise that gets public money for stadiums can move this applies for Cleveland franchises and Cincinnati franchises and Columbus franchises you can look up the Art Model law that a US Senator from Ohio wrote into law back in 1995 when the Cleveland Browns left town believe you me the Cincinnati Bengals are not going anywhere before they would move new ownership would have to happen and the new ownership would have to abide by the Art Model law too .
@@joshuakacik9458 Exactly people seem to forget that the Art Modell law is not just a thing to to the city of Cleveland but it applies to all of the entire state of Ohio so it’s for any sports team that’s threatening to leave from any city within Ohio. The soccer team is the only one it’s been used on and that was from Columbus. It’s not just a city of Cleveland laws it’s an ENTIRE state of Ohio law.
@@joshuakacik9458 I doubt that it's constitutional. That's political posturing. And paper won't stop moving vans. The governor of Maryland thought he could declare eminent domain on the Colts to keep them in Baltimore. How'd that work out?
Denver Broncos funded renovations $100m last year. Team owners funded it, thankfully. If Bengals want stadium improvements, they should fund it themselves. And then we'd see how much it really cost.
Yeah but they are asking for a new stadium in a couple years so they are not going to ask twice. This way they look like the good guys by paying for the small renovations now. Waite until they want 1 billion.
There was nothing wrong with the arena the Magic played in but the POS billionaire owner who also owned (SC)AMway threatened to relocate if the city didn't build a new one.
@@scotttild That's not going to affect the NFL getting a team up there. CFL is a minor league product, there's no written law or anything that can keep the NFL from housing a team up there.
Difference with Balt situation is Maryland is more liberal populace and government spending isn’t a big deal. Ohio is more conservative and Hamilton County especially is. Very averse to taxes.
@@BF2021-kf8xz Well that was in the 80s. But if you put it to a vote in almost any place "Do you want to subsidize a billionaire?" That's going to come back a resounding NO!
Re: Threatening to relocate once the lease is up. This isn't going to happen. The NFL has run out of leverage as there are no more markets to realistically expand to without a significant downgrade in population or encroaching on other teams' markets. This isn't like the last stadium boom, when each NFL city could point to LA or even Las Vegas as a potential relocation site. This is why the NFL is flirting with the idea of a London team-there are no more quality markets left in the USA. The NFL has peaked team-wise in the USA. Now, Cincinnati can tell the Bengals to go eat rocks; they need to either pay 50% of the $300 million or foot the entire bill. It’s time to make it a real partnership instead of just benefiting billionaires. The original deal for Paul Brown Stadium was atrocious, one of the worst in the league. It blew up Hamilton County and Cincinnati's budgets to the point where major cutbacks had to be implemented. Local officials had no choice as they couldn't lose the NFL team, but now they have more ammunition to fight back. The stadium isn’t that old, and the renovations would primarily benefit the Bengals.
Agree there are a handful of cities but very few willing to pay for a new stadium. Off hand the only ones that would work would be cities that had and lost a team like St. Louis, SD or Oakland. All three don’t have any money, so the move threat is really dead. Vegas was always the NFL talking point along with LA now both those markets are off the table. London is never going to work full time. The currency exchange ranges would kill a London based team unless they could come to an agreement players would be paid in Pounds not Dollars which is never going to happen.
@@scotttild Currencies used to be a thing in sports but teams now have Forex accounts and investments to hedge the currency flucations. Here in Canada, the NHL teams learned this after issues in the 90s and never really have to deal with negative parts of the USD/CAD dollar gap any more.
This is insane. Inflation, high gas and food. Drug camps fill cities, crime is crazy. Many living paycheck to paycheck, while we allow people from wherever to just walk in and get free debit cards. Many have paid taxes in cities, states and the country - yet rich owners have the gull to ask tax payers to help pay. HOW BOUT NO!
The franchise is worth $4.0Billion. The owner should put up $2.0B toward any remodel or new stadium. I would say no public money for any NFLfranchise. Billionaires crying poor. No public money
Or else what where are they going to play. Start calling their bluff and just say enough, Pointed out time and time again there is just very few cities they could move to and they are all smaller markets. Enough is enough. Cities just need to start staying no Taxpayers are getting tired of funding these things.
This guy has no clue about the Bengals stadium issues. First of all Cincinnati is hundreds miles south of Pittsburgh and Cleveland, the weather is tolerable until about December. It doesn’t need a roof. Second the current stadium is funded through a sales tax that will expire in coming years. Good luck getting voters to approve another after the rip off deal to build the existing stadium. Part of that con game was it was needed to be competitive. Umm Bengals most years in Paul Brown stadium have had a terrible record. They still have never won a Super Bowl. Lastly he calls it a terrible stadium when it’s one of the very few to win architectural awards. They can just leave
I could see Salt Lake City but they are very anti tax in Utah so that would be a hard sell. MLB is making a push but still having a hard time getting any money to do anything.
Everyone of theee millionaires & billionaires wants more of taxpayers (common folks) dollars while we are under super high inflation/high prices on EVERYTHING while wages/take home pay after alll the taxes, fica & healthcare fees are taken out your base pay (what actualy gets deposited into your bank accounts) remain stagnate or drop. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOLKS!! Not mad at those that tell these sports owners & teams to build it yourself or kicks rocks!! #IJS
The nfl makes over 12 billion a year. Why cant the nfl fund most of these stadiums. They've gotten used to the governments rolling over and using public money.
This is lunacy. There is nothing wrong with Paycor PBS. The lease between Hamilton County and the Bengals was rated the worst for the taxpayers ever. When do we as taxpayers get to stop writing checks to billionaires? At what point does the federal government need to somehow end the madness.
Could Cincinnati, like St. Louis, be more a baseball town? I remember when the 1987 St. Louis (NFL) Cardinals were announcing plans to relocate, someone stated that many fans in the St. Louis metro-area were more worried about the (MLB) Cardinals losing Jack Clark. Also, Art Modell specifically stated that he moved (the original) Browns out of Cleveland because the (at-that-time) Indians got a sweetheart deal for their new stadium.
I'm not sure what leverage the Bengals think they have, this is absolutely the worst stadium deal in the NFL for a local government. They would be better off if the Bengals pissed off to Kentucky, or somewhere else.
They really don't have any at all. The city can't keep them from moving but there are very limited landing spots. I mean where are they moving to Ohio stadium ? Cities should just start calling their bluff.
The owners became billionaires because they are great at using leverage for their own advantage. Why do use everybody think they will not use leverage for their own personal benefits by bending over any city or state to get a few more hundred million dollars that improves the value of their franchises? I see these comments all the time and I’m just shocked. Professional franchises will take every opportunity to suck every last dollar out of any community. It’s up to the communities to decide whether to pay or do not pay and risk losing a franchise. Research shows that losing franchise is not detrimental to State finances may be a little bit of a hurt on the Prestige of a town but an actuality businesses don’t decide to go and relocate to cities based on cost and availability of high quality personnel.
The owners have money they can’t pay for a renovation ? I wish if the government was so corrupt they could tell them pay for this yourself and no you cannot threaten to relocate.
This is the City of Cincinnati fault because they knew this day was coming and this stadium is old and they gotta to complete and i think the Bengals need a new stadium
St Louis received two NFL relocation teams in its his history the Football Cardinals & Rams only to see these teams relocate later. With the St Louis UFL team doing very well St Louis could be considered for a future NFL expansion to finally have an NFL team originate in St Louis.
Bengals leaving for the greener pastures of Saskatoon.😂 Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Just one of the reasons, grift of city money etc, I stopped watching the NFL decades ago in favor of the CFL.
The Cincinnati Bengals are not relocating the Brown family is from Ohio plus there is the Art Model law that says before they can move the team they would have to put the franchise up for sale so that are local ownership can buy it and keep the team in Cincinnati it's really the Art Model law that was put into law in the State of Ohio after the Cleveland Browns left the first time so no Ohio professional sports teams that get public funding can ever move they can try but the Art Model law will stop them all the time it's the best law in the great State of Ohio ever State should have it so no professional team can threaten relocation.
