People can get it confused with the APX A1 CARRY. The Carry is a different pistol and is essentially an upgraded Nano. It uses the same chassis and 6 to 8 round magazines as the Nano. I have both the Nano & the Carry and like, shoot, & carry them a lot. They make sense for pocket holster carry. I think there’s some hate out there for the Nano/Carry, but you just have to understand & actually shoot the gun. For instance, they were built for 124g and (for a small pistol) like more fps/m.e.
The A1 carry mounting plate system is kind of trash. For some reason they have a hole that allows the striker block spring thru the top of the slide. When you put the plate on you have to compress the spring and not crush it. While your trying to hold your optic on the plate against spring tension and screw it on. Not a fan.
Great comment. The one thing you got incorrect about the APX carry is it doesn’t take the same magazines as the Nano. When Beretta released the gun years ago, I asked that specific question on the Beretta RU-vid channel, and they responded. I believe the difference was that you need different baseplates. Why this is, I have no clue, it didn’t make sense, but it is what I was told.
I have had a Nano for years & have been running 124gr through it since I bought it & have had zero issues thus far. I understand James' hate for the Nano, but I respectfully have to side with Hop on this one.
@@bannedbycommieyoutube5time920 Thanks. The Nano & APX Carry mags do have different base pads (both the 8 round & the pinky finger extender for the 6 rounds), but they are interchangeable. I have both & do it all the time.
@@benb5960 thanks for the note, to make sure I’m following you, you’re saying that the nano and APX carry magazines are indeed interchangeable without switching out the baseplates?
I really enjoy how Beretta put so much of an emphasis on function over form in the design of their APX and PX4 series of pistols. 2 of the most durable and reliable, yet underappreciated handguns on the market.
@@alv4475 I cant stand holding the PX4. It’s also very heavy and chunky for a double stack. I understand those are not the main reasons to not buy a handgun, but when I’m dropping $500+ on a gun I want to like it 😂.
@@angelobartolomeu5679 yep, wish they would get into the micro compact game with a DA/SA. I think a lot of people would buy a p365 sized DA/SA If a good manufacturer made one. Not sure why no companies have introduced that kind of offering. Idk why Sig didn’t just go that route instead of releasing the CSX
@@PeasantKing-od5lg Uh, maybe you were too quick to pull the trigger above my learned colleague. Baretta goes back to 1526. S&W started around 1852. Please explain where I am missing something?
The APX centurion in 9mm has been my carry gun for the last few years. The fact that so many people were sleeping on a $380 pistol that outshoots and is more reliable than 99% of every pistol ever invented blew my mind.
everyone slept on this pistol. I did the centurion and compact frame for a while. fantastic shooting gun. in either configuration the gun was great. just a little fat, it was noticeable iwb compared to others I have carried
I know many people were sleeping on the APX. Even before the pandemic, back in summer of 2019 Beretta introduced the Beretta special pricing on the APX lineup and you could get them for around $309-329. During COVID the price slowly started climbing up to the $350s and now $380. That's a phenomenal price for what you get. I think some Caniks are the only guns out there that present a better value, but those aren't made in America/Italy. I really wish Beretta would make the Competition Firing Pin Spring Assembly (green striker) and the Heavy Metallic RSA Guide Rod Assembly for the Centurion/Compact models as well. They used to be $15 each ($25 now) and improved the recoil and trigger on the full size APX dramatically. Having those on the smaller APXs would have been a game changer. The issue that Beretta had when every gun was selling like hotcakes was that they couldn't keep up with the demand for the APX. My uncle owns a gun store around the Jacksonville area and if we put the APX out, if would most likely be sold by the end of the day. We'll go through the entire inventory in one weekend too. However, we will then wait weeks just to get more in stock. It really killed the APX's momentum. This was the case for many gun stores in the area and big box retailers (like Bass Pro and Academy) who did carry the APX in their store as well. Hopefully the APX A1 doesn't repeat the same issue.
TFB is the only gun channel that can maintain my attention beyond 10 minutes. Ya’ll have seriously perfected the balance of information, tested performance, and satire. Keep up the great work!
This is very true. Worked as technician for a company, put a tiny green air fern for some greenery in my, no window workspace. Had to get rid of it, because the manager didn't like it 😕
I love beretta as a company in general. So for that reason alone, I might consider picking one of these up just to further support them. It looks very promising
I must confess, I have passed over the APX numerous times simply based on it's looks. I had no idea it was such a fine and affordable pistol. I'm very happy to have been educated on this weapon.
oh, just wait on future vids. You have no idea. I think they are making a genuine effort to connect with the US audience and gun owner base (pink guns aside), and I wish more Euro manfs were like this. I mean, factually they sell more guns in the US than anywhere else, so it's smart business.
Beretta made the very first pistol I purchased for myself in 1990 and the first pistol I owned in 1988. I absolutely loved them both. They just worked. Always. Now I wasn’t shooting as many rounds as I do now plus I wasn’t putting them under stress but they still just worked so I cannot complain. And there’s also John McClain.
I love the original APX. Probably the best pistol dollar for dollar out there. I don't think there was a smoother striker fire pistol out there. I shot the compact in 40 and it felt less jumpy than a lot of larger pistols in 9mm
The P320 beat it all day, the APX was second i tested all of them and the APX was close but that damn safety plunger popping out the top of the slides was an absolute deal killer!....
@@leadhead7338 apx beat the 320 for me. looked like a chunky boy, sure. i think the apx was half the price of the 320 at the time, and that also helped! ($270 or so)
@@Sageofthe16 LOL my P320 was about $700, i pay for what is good and i want, the plunger safety popping out the top was the deal killer, and the smaller frame ones are WAY TO THIN in my palm and i have small hands
On a whim, I rented an original APX at my local range. I was extremely surprised at how well I liked it and how well I could shoot it. It's really worth considering if you're looking for a polymer striker fired pistol.
I own the APX & APX Carry... best pistols I've ever owned... Smooth, accurate and low recoil... Berretta really knows how to make guns... 500 years in the business they may have perfected it ...
I’ve had the Centurion for a couple years and it’s definitely one of those sleeper pistols. I’ve managed to run about 1200 rounds thru mine and it’s had no hiccups. Solid and more than combat accurate. I will more then likely pick up the A1.
@@misgoldmanMultiples guns and ammo prices and lockdowns. What’s wrong with 1200 rounds through one gun? Maybe he has 10,000 rounds through another pistol over the same period of time. Would that validate his opinion?
@@misgoldman yes, unlike the hundreds of keyboard warriors that claims to have tens of thousands of rounds through guns that havent even been out for a month
Great interview. That factory looked amazing. Such an emphasis on quality control. So clean, bright, skylights? and plants. Hopefully you have a video on the 92 series from the same factory too.
APX A1 looks solid. Optics ready is a plus. Offer it with threaded barrel and suppressor height sights and I am really interested. Still hoping for a PX4 Storm v. 2.0.
IMO all they need for the PX4 is a little bit comfier frame to hold (the APX has a nicer, slightly rubbery grip that sinks into your hands nicely), and cut the slide for optics.
I'm incredibly envious that you had an opportunity to tour one of my all time favorite firearms manufacturers. I'm also very excited to see the new PCC as I still have not added one to the collection! Keep doing what you're doing man, definitely one of my favorite channels.
Bought my dad a gen1 APX full size in 9mm for his birthday last year. It was the only gun I would consider in that price range, and it has been great for him, and I’ve enjoyed shooting it myself. Easy controls, good ergos, and a reliable platform. Personally, I don’t mind the finger grooves, and I actually really like the “toblerone” slide serrations. Easy to operate with sweaty hands or gloves. Looking forward to trying the new APX A1. Looks like a solid evolution on a good “economy” striker pistol.
The original APX Centurion is my carry. I actually love the way it looks and feels in my hand. Fantastic pistol and when you factor the price it definitely deserves a look. Glad to see that they are continuing the platform.
The knowledge, attention to detail and customer centric approach displayed by the COO and Prandini for the APX A1 is worth and a props at the very least. Borderline emotional after seeing such quality Thanks for bringing such great content, James and the TFBTV team. James, your presentation and jokes (a la aendix carry) are the reason I keep up with this channel. Subscribed!
I like how he said a Cut out is mandatory right now. Nice to see the industry move forward. Your videos are top-notch. Amazing connections. Dont fuck it up.
Man usually I don't get excited for anything Beretta related that isn't a 92, Cheetah, or Cougar, but the APX A1 seems like a winner to me. The A1 fixes everything many people had complaints about and even makes it optics ready by default. The thing I'm looking to the most is how they redid the beavertail area. You can get your hands in much deeper to reduce the recoil feeling (similar to the CZ P10 series). If Beretta can keep these in stock (the original APX was selling like hotcakes during the pandemic, but my uncle's shop could rarely get more to restock) and possibly keep it somewhat near the APX price, I think it would be a very appealing pistol. I still wished they used regular sights instead of the combat sights since I'm more used to using a center hold than a combat hold with my sights, but I understand why they did it.
The original APX Centurion is one of my favorites. I have over 2000 rounds through it and the only hiccup was ammunition related. I very much look forward to this new version. What a privilege to go on that trip. Thank you for the video.
James, you world traveler you. You just made my day. Dealing with some of the Mensa Members here at work, you tell me there is a new APX coming! I am now happy and the dumbassery is not bothering me now. Love my APX it is such a good gun, can’t wait for the new one and it is optic ready. My old eyes appreciate that. Have a great day,
Beretta makes solid guns and I look forward to seeing how this line of handguns continues to evolve. We could see a solid competitor to the P320 modularity if we're lucky
Even tho English isn’t their first language, I live how they’re still knowledgeable and proficient in explaining the specs and quality of their product. I love the 92 series but haven’t really grown on the apx yet. Still very much respected.
The Beretta 92 was the first pistol i purchased and will always be my first love! As for the APX-A1.. its an awesome design and accurate pistol, which was highlighted in your top notch presentation once again James! Not many can claim to having an interview with the head of the company and talking about not just the new release of their latest products but the proud history of the company manufacturing heritagepf being the oldest producer of firearms in the world looking so stylish .. lol Loved your interview with Danielle especially .. that young lady can really shoot, even Taran Butler was impressed when she visited his range and he put her through a course of fire, hope you do more content with Danielle as an foreign guest for TFB... So looking forward to presentatiom on the PMX Sub gun and the other products being released this coming year as mentioned by your good self! Once again thanks for the awesome content !
I'm already completely satisfied with my full size APX and had no intention of buying one more striker-fired pistol. Now I want this one too...thx a lot haha. COO C Ferlito looks like a fine gentleman: he looks kind but also very serious like if you were whispering before Mass he would turn around and look at you and you would immediately shut up.
The Beretta factory in Gardone VT is the same factory grounds they've been on since its founding 500 years ago. You get a piece of history with every Italian Beretta.
Everyone talks about Glocks but as someone who owns the APX and also a Glock 19 Gen 5 and a Glock19x, I can confidently say that the APX is an extremely reliable gun and I can't wait to add the APX 1 full size to my collection. I used steel case ammo and some ammo that people say are bad for the guns and no matter what ammo I use, the APX does not quit on me.
Just bought the original full size APX for my first pistol, love the look of the slide, hopefully some of the A1 pieces are back compatible, I'd love to do the optic eventually, that new grip frame looks nice too
The original APX is the best looking striker fired duty handgun and the serrations work perfectly with sweaty hands. The APX should have won the military contract overt the P320.
I have the original APX Centurion. It's a very good firearm and I liked the serrations and the way it looked. I also like the look of this version. I'll be getting it. Outstanding review.
I personally really like the OG APX much better, it is awesome. The slide is very well thought out NO MATTER how you grab the slide it just works because of the grooves. Very well thought out
Right before the lockdowns, one of my lgs had a stack of maybe twelve, full-size APXs in their boxes, on the counter, practically GIVING THEM AWAY for $300/per!! I stood there in the store for at least twenty minutes debating between that and groceries, and still left without one. I’d just bought a 19X, I had my 30 year old 92FS, and what I really wanted was a full-size PX4, then-as now, >$650, IF you could find one. It seems Beretta has taken some time to re-think its place in the handgun market with Sig getting the military contract, Glock being Glock, and so many others scrapping for position. With Sako, Benelli, and other mfg side-gigs, I think it’s time for them to make their presence felt in the market again. In every way, Beretta does things right…I love my 1301, btw. Wanting to crap on them for ‘slide serrations’ is just stupid. IMHO, the original APX looks great, shoots great, and is every bit as good as the P320, VP9, 509, and 19X. I hope the A1 reminds people (especially gunwriters) why Beretta has been around for 500 years.
Pushing 2000 rds through my APX full size and it's not going anywhere. Your original assessment was one of its biggest selling points and I'm extremely glad I saw it. I've shot all kinds and continue to trust it more than any glock or sig. It's really just fine by me that no one else has one, though I feel bad for the company. Thanks for your videos, they're very insightful! 👍
I was so excited huge Beretta fan! I rushed out got the first release of the APX when it first came out, loved it. Fast forward to 2018 I convinced the company I work for to buy three of them for me to test out when we were interested in replacing our older Glocks. Huge disappointment on the new production APX's Brand new from the factory they had tones of tool marks scratches the slide coatings were terrible, we though we had got used ones by accident, but confirmed they were new from the factory. They came from the factory VERY VERY poorly manufactured. It was super gritted to cycle We also had several failures to eject. The Beretta APX failed in the US market because Beretta released it two years late from the original release date. By then the market was already flooded. Then the later production runs sucked! I am a huge Beretta fan super excited to get my hands on the APX A1! Love my PX storm, my CX storm, my M9, looking real forward to trying this out. Great video from TFB TV.
I know what you mean. The APX from Italy were masterpieces and extremely reliable. Then Beretta moved a lot of it's production to its new factory in Tennessee and quality control went down drastically. It's a hit or miss from them (probably better now that things from a new factory and production line are resolved), but they really harmed the APX and Beretta's reputation. Beretta couldn't keep up with the demand and restock their firearms often during covid too.
@@JacksonWalter735 I'm a huge Beretta fan and I can't wait to check out the new A1 I've been looking to get my hands on the arx100 as well you're probably right now that the new factory is at 100%, I'm sure it's going to be much better
Honestly I thought the original APX looked kinda cool. I almost bought one but the day I went to buy it they had an M&P 2.0 5 inch in FDE. I'm a sucker for long slides and FDE.
@@ashes2ashes863 I put the aluminum flat faced Apex triggers in all of my M&p pistols. It’s literally amazing. I’m so much more accurate and it’s even more fun to shoot. I highly recommend it. My gun guy buys and installs the triggers for $150 out the door.
@@cliffordmontana4562 I'll have to check it out. That's definitely the one thing I would improve on my M and Ps and it sounds like you found an answer for it
@@ashes2ashes863 Do it! It’s truly amazing. Took a good trigger and made it unbelievable. Shorter trigger pull while also being 2.5 lbs lighter, yet still VERY safe for concealed carry or self defense. Shorter and crisper reset as well. I didn’t think it would make that big of a difference, but it did. My gun guy could do a trigger install in about 30 minutes. I’m much more accurate and you will be too. The M&P’s with an apex are the best pistol on the market, in my opinion. Have a good day brother! Let’s go Brandon.
I couldn't handle that environment. Good job James👍 I'm definitely excited about this pistol. I liked the APX and thought the slide looked pretty cool.
The APX failed initially due to price. NOBODY is paying $550 for an APX when A Gen 3 Glock is $499, Gen 4 is $529 and Gen3 is $549. To nobody's surprise at $329 it sold like hotcakes. I have an service model size APX, it's ugly but it works well and I like it.
@@italianduded1161 I own 2 Glocks. I made no comments one way or the other on Glock's appearance. They are pretty sterile as they are tools in function and ergos that work well enough for 80% of the population before anything else. The APX is IMO aesthetically ugly, aesthetics have no value.
I owned an original APX and it was great, the faults were that it had that useless striker indicator, it wasn't milled for optics, the slide serrations that didn't work well when wet and personally, I didn't care either about the finger grooves, either way. The quality of the gun was 100% first rate, but no optics was a deal killer and the later RDO, didn't excite me at all. I sold the APX and purchased a CZ P10-S Optics ready that has an RMR mounted on it. Today I purchased an APX A1 Gen II Carry and will definitely give the new larger APX a look when it arrives in stores. Now that Beretta has fixed this pistol, they need to design a replacement for the Eurocentric "Pregnant Guppy" ARX, a great idea, reliable firearm with extremely poor execution - had one, love it, hated it, sold it. LOVE BERETTA and its products. Also, get rid of those unreliable Bobcat and Tomcat pistols, as they are unreliable, poorly designed death traps and should never be thought of as a defensive gun in 2022, just copy the Seecamp, give it some sights and make it for less money.
Great video. Thanks TFB TV. I own a full size APX. But two big questions. #1 - can I buy the frame of the new APX and use it with all the components of the first Gen APX? #2 - are magazines compatible? Cheers James!
I have owned several Beretta Pistols over the years and will say that while the looks of the first generation of APX pistols may have been a stark deviation from what was conventional at the time the majority of these deviations were highly functional in design. I for one welcomed the bizarreness of its look because of the fact that it did not mimic what was already on the market. It had cues all its own and was far from the vastly bland plastic brick offered by Glock. In complete honesty the APX IMO just felt like it was custom molded for my hand size and grip style. In a world of borrowed, pirated, and shared design cues Beretta has always been a stand out manufacturer that did not try to mimic existing designs to compete in an existing market demand and I attribute that to their being the oldest firearm manufacturer in the world; alongside of being one of the highest quality manufacturers in existence bar none. For me Beretta is the standard setter no matter the design segment. I understand that Glock was the first to gain any success with polymer frames but had H&K not tried it first would Glock had even tried there are so many VP70 design cues in the Glock pistol yet the Glock is what everyone judges the entire polymer striker category by and outside of the partially cocked striker system the majority of the design is owed to H&K. The same goes for CZ and its 75 variants it is a fantastic platform but the initial ergos and slide design are wrongfully accredited as they were first seen in the Sig 210 which was a SAO pistol developed in late 1948. Beretta has always dared to be different and innovative. Providing unparalleled quality and longevity of use at very competitive pricing. I look forward to seeing what the APX A1 has to offer and hope that Beretta continues to remain unique in their offerings as the market is too flooded with bland IMO.
Just got my APX A1 full size yesterday. Pro’s and Con’s: Pro’s : Backwards compatible. Swapped out the grip to the regular “legacy” APX grip in Gray which was super easy and took less than 5 minutes to do. I put the black grip palm swell and I like the gray and black theme now. Grip was easy to change once I saw the slide needed to be removed to remove the grip locking rod. I like how easy it was to field strip. Nice easy to pick up front Tritium sight and blacked out serrated rear Just got back from the range. Very flat shooter. Recoil is soft. Trigger , not bad, my Canik is a tad lighter feeling but the Beretta trigger wasn’t bad at all and I shot it very well. Trigger has a defined wall and breaks right at 90 degrees, reset is short and right back at the wall at 90 degrees and is audible which is nice. I’m very pleased. I laser bore sighted it and set the Holosun 507c on it and didn’t even have to make an adjustment. POI was spot on. Ergo’s are nice overall except the sharp edges behind the trigger that dig in to your trigger finger, I’ll mention it again later. The Slide serrations front and rear work well and look so much better than the legacy toblerone tiger version imo. Good job on that Beretta. Weighs 706g w/o the mag, 1.5lb per my scale. I really like the simplicity of controls and the low profile slide release that was easy to operate. Overall the APX A1 is an excellent shooting pistol for $400-500 and I will rotate it into my carry rotation. Cons: The frame being sharp right behind the trigger. I used a deburring tool and smoothed the edges which took care of that problem. The Optic Plate screws use a super small Allen wrench (4mm) and of course no matter how careful I was they stripped which was a mega bitch to extract. Optic plates are not provided , but unlike my Walther PDP where I could just go to their website and claim which one I needed and received 6 days later for free, I went to Beretta’s website and would have had to buy one for another $30 which I didn’t like or have the patience for. I ground the nubs off my slide and direct mounted my Holosun 507c on it. Note: if you grind your nubs down to direct mount your optic I would suggest to remove the extractor components that way you can then remove your striker block and striker block spring so you don’t damage or lose your striker block spring once you grind that rear nub flush because it will then be an open hole and the underside of your optic will now hold the spring secure. The optic plate removal and optic installation are the only cons I can give this pistol. If they would use screws with a bigger head and or torx bit, and provide the optic plate/hardware going forward that would be my .02 on where they can improve
I have the original centurion model, and I don't understand why people don't like the ergo on it. It works fine with or without gloves and was the best pistol I could find in my price range. I don't shoot as often as a lot of people, but I put about 1500 rounds through it and I'm still loving it. I was actually doing my first full cleaning and lube job on it since I bought it. (Only ever done field strip cleaning on it before).
it's ironic too that the toblerone cuts were supposed to make the slide super grippy to rack, but they're actually shallower than traditional serrations and don't maintain their depth down their height. Plus it's just a more costly machining process, the new cuts are way better, even if it looks like a Stoeger
The new APX looks great. That triger guard undercut looks amazing. Really want to check one out. Wish it would have come with higher sights for an optic right out of the box. TFTV, you are killing it with content like this!
I really wish Beretta didnt listen to the people that said the APX was ugly. I've always loved the look of it. Better looking than a fucking Glock, thats for sure.
What a great video. Do Italian regulations prohibit wearing shorts on the shooting stage, or it was too many ticks and hot brass in the grass. Molto bene video grazie Signor James. What was in that beautiful eye watering gun locker. A chest of secrets? It is hard to believe that Italians had mostly subpar small arms during the WWII , with some exceptions of course. Do you get a giant pizza with extra sausage and goat cheese , a box of tomatoes, and a barrel of wine if you buy the most expensive gun from the Beretta? Show us the insides of that locker James prego. Ciao.
Are you actually going to be able to swap slides and frames? I got the first APX because of the chassis system. I got rid of it because of lack of aftermarket support and lack of support for the chassis system.
Just picked up an early version of APX A1 tactical. Tighter slide same frame and threaded barrel with 21 rd mags. Watching you more. Thanks for your work.
The COO seems really cool and way more in touch with the American consumer market than I expected he would. I never realized the APX is a Browning style tilting barrel system either.
With the current $100 rebate on the Carry, I suspect it's coming in for a re-design, too. Single-stack approach on it (along with FN's 503) was misbegotten for current market.
Have the original APX full size. LOVE that handgun. So accurate and easy to shoot. I even love the Toblerone slide. Picked up mine for $379 at Bass Pro about 18 months ago. Super price. Now Shoot Straight has the new A1 for $429 and a $50 rebate!!! I picked up the new A1 carry over the holidays. Really easy to shoot. Wish it held more than 6-8 rounds but it will do the trick. Amazing handguns. So happy with mine.
Well, I guess Beretta is following what mist people like in a pistol. I still love the 92 series. But I can’t wait to see what this pistol has to offer.
The APX A1 is my first Beretta when I saw the price and read the reviews. To say it is a great shooting pistol is an understatement. Last Friday, I purchased the APX A1 tactical due to the rebate offered by Beretta and the 20% discount given by the store that I purchased my firearms from. When I get to the range this week, it's going to be Beretta day because I am shooting the crap out of both pistols.
Weird uncomfortable fact from left field: Years after I graduated, a kid going to my old high school stole his father's PX4 Storm and domed all of his friends and, after a small struggle, himself. The pistol looks dumb as shit, to me, but for the shooter to have pulled that off with all of them running away in the lunch room of one of the biggest schools in the USA- That damn pistol must perform well. Why only headshots? He wasn't trying to make his friends suffer. He was an extremely popular nutjob who wanted them to go to the afterlife with him. We are talking 8 headshots and only headshots. The one survivor, who was the only one I knew, got hit in the teeth and had his jaw/teeth reconstructed. Two of the shots, for sure, were from like 20 feet away, into a crowd. One bullet grazed the shoulder of a student before going into the intended target.
