Everytime I look at the grill, it looks like a Photoshop project gone wrong.

You know this grille has actually grown on me. saw a new one drive past the other day and it looked pretty good... Give it a few years when we're used to seeing it and I'm sure it'll be loved just as much as previous generations

While I know I’ll get used to the front end, the simplicity of older BMWs make them timeless in a way that I don’t think this one will be. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just so clearly done as a marketing ploy to out-do the competition in “boldness” and “presence” rather than for beauty’s sake.

Great review as always. The F-series fronts were so gorgeous in my view that this is a terrible let down. Its not just the grill, its the 1-series shape headlights as well.

Owning a BMW e30 in red, fully restored to brand new, I can't like this car even for its beautiful driving characteristics that Henry described. The direction BMW with its styling is the wrong one. If people truly hate it, don't buy it. Vote with your wallet. A car is as much about its driving as it looks. Especially as a road car. This car looks like a blast to drive but I think anyone looking to buy an M car will go for any other version besides this one. For me personally, I would buy the beautiful F80, a timeless design. The G82 and G80, not so much... This will be a forgotten M car.

Just bought a Giulia Quadrifoglio and I’m so glad I did. They managed to make the ZF gearbox feel fast and sharp with a Ferrari like feel. It looks sooooooo much better too! Sometimes you buy a car then pretty quickly lust after another, not the case this time. I did decide to throw a cheeky remap and upgrade the tyres to Eagle Supersports so 600bhp with excellent traction, that torque vectoring diff really is excellent.

This is weird but I found it satisfying how the car hugged the curb at 1:57

I ounce had one of my friends show me how the grill on bmw's got bigger over time. I didn't notice how bad it was until I saw this car...

Some people have criticized those Lego dimples on the shifters, I think, when properly understood, it's brilliant.

I'm not the kind of person that always say 'old is better' blindly. I've been wanting to like this new look but damn it's hard.

Neither, last m3 for me was a e92 and thankfully I'm old and still have my E46 M3 and 2 air cooled 911s...all manuals. But your reviews are in the top 3

After the e90 m3, I graduated from BMW and moved on. I will desire the E30, E36, E46 and E90 until the end of time.

M3 > M4

Whenever I see an early 2000s BMW, 3 series or 5 series it still takes my breath away. They still look classy and clean on the road to this day. I really hope BMW can relearn about simple clean design. 20 years later those models still look the best.

Atleast there are many aftermarket companies making great looking replacement bumpers

Seriously ugly looking car.

Finally a proper review addressing the ZF auto. I as well had a lot of concerns about the auto trans. I love the DCT in the Audi RS3, and agree that this M3 should've received a DCT it would've made the car even more magical

Even if I could afford it, it would be way way down my list no matter how wonderfully it drives. It represents everything wrong with modern sports car design.

I cancelled my order on one, manual M3 in green, maybe I should make a new order again. The weight is just scary and I feel depreciation might be a player in a few months.

Dare I say, this review is objectively better and more relevant than CH’s take. And I’m a huge Harris fan.

In the M version, the problem isn't really the grills themselves but the placement of the number plate. It would look fantastic the way alfa does it

Amazing film! The cut on 6:48 was outstanding. I find the car to be very sporty and quite nice to look at since some time has passed and I built my opinion.

TLDR: The chassis n' ZF torque-converter mated to that amazing S58 inline six may lack that final, top end 10/10ths for the track; but they deliver a wider, broader breadth of ability. It's a trade off that the vast majority, minus the purist, would likely gladly take.

Everything on the front from below the headlights ruins the exterior of this car.

You'll feel every kilogram when the bills start coming in for brakes and tyres! The M3 is better looking than the M4, and to be honest although expectations were low since the turbo 6s came in, it sounds surprisingly good.

That grill though! I think it looks good on black, the grill will prob grow on me, bold design and prob because it gets people talking! Maybe seeing it for real will change my mind but right now I prefer the last F82 with icon led's 🔥. All colours work in that. But this sounds great

I think the color really suits the new M4 like wow

4:15 ah, yes. Because if it weren't for the dimples I wouldn't have a clue as to which paddle was up and which was down!

Great review Henry! My budget wouldn’t allow for a M3/M4, settled for a M340. BTW, I see nothing wrong with the grille, in fact, I like it.

ZF8 over “old” MDCT? You can’t feel the weight? Some road noises but but but? Sound is meh but but but? Bracing is ugly but but but? Riddled with excuses yet it’s a better car? BUT is the keyword here. This car is bollocks.
