Its not 100K! It's a little over 80K with a decent spec. (albeit if you tick all the boxes you can get to 100) Also some of the prices are off (cooled seats are 300 and carbon 950)... Finally, im going to be on the right side of history on this one - the car is going to go down as passable if not good looking.
Other car designers: “We took inspiration from nature for our design.” This car designer, after snorting another massive line of cocaine: “BUGGS FUCKING BUNNY”!

@@trevorphillips3922 Being better is also subjective, better at what exactly? If you're daily driving them the M4 would be better - more spacious and comfortable - but by the same token a non-M version would be even better - and let's face it, a large percentage of M cars rarely get used as intended and are mostly for showing off purposes. Even when comparing them as performance cars the vast majority of people aren't that good as drivers that they can objectively say one is better that the other outside of quoting figures and repeating what they read in reviews.
This car is at least 10 seconds faster if not more on the Nordschleife than an m2. BMW have been trying like hell to recreate the dynamics of the E46 for a long time now and failed. This car hits the bulls-eye after 15 years. The numbers are meaningless they're going after a feeling here. Wait till they probe its lift characteristics.
@@AkinaGhost no. Being better is not always subjective. There are objective qualities about cars that make some objectively better than others. That doesn’t mean no one should choose that option, because they may like it more.
I'm diehard into anything BMW from the 80's and 90's. I've driven my collegues M2 many times. To be honest, I am not that impressed. The M2 was supposed to be this throwback to the size and feel of cars like the E36 M3 and E46 M3. You still feel really disconnected to the road. Still feels like you are floating. Dont getm e wrong, its a great car, It just doesn't make me feel like i'm in a sports car. I'm not sure anything modern will, to be honest unless we are talking super cars.
@@CYota91 To be honest, that happened already with the E46 and E39. They became luxury cars first, and sport sedans second instead of the other way around.
Honestly I’m more about save the DCT with this car. Yeah manual save it also, but the fact that BMW went torque converter shows that they don’t care about ///M anymore. You don’t see Porsche saying maybe we should get rid of the PDK.
@@BlakesGarage I think you'll find that torque converters will eventually overtake and probably become better than DCT, they are pretty close to the same speed in shifts anyways
I thought it was really bad when first released photos but I have definitely gotten used to it and tbh the grill isn’t any bigger than every single other company’s
I think you're wrong. I would drive a multipla if it drove like a mclaren F1. Not to say that the M4 drives well enough to offset the looks. If I wanted a fast twin turbo V6 I would get a GTR
@@allen624 yeah except this grill doesn't mesh with the rest of the front of the car. Dumb character line along side. No Hoffmeister Kink. M3 isn't as bad as this M4

Incredible how the lack of a simple Hofmeister Kink and a lost shoulder line, transforms what could have been a design that really grows on you (as the g80 m3 has), into this Frankenmustang monstrosity.

@@stevemiller1626 then you just buy one! For you the best solution. Myself would not want a car with that interior and all the time being scared if something brakes.....
Strictly speaking 996, I for whatever reason like the original headlight design with the orange marker versus the clear eggs of later...but of course not my favorite design language. This G series is hideous and would not reward this behavior if I could afford it.
Just look at what cars they compre this too. A mustang and a civic type R. All those cars are good cars especially for the price. This car isn’t anything special for the price. BMW really dropped the ball with this new m3/m4
It’s honestly the ugliest bmw ever. Usually when a new design language comes out, I assume I’ll end up liking it in a year or 2. I don’t think that will be the case with this thing

Im placing my order for the G80 this week. Can’t wait! Yes, the front end isn’t my favorite but it’s growing on me (in the right color) and this will probably be the last affordable manual sports car with a powerful engine… get ‘em while you can! Bet the next M3 will follow the C63 AMG with a small engine hybrid.

over a year later I like the new m3 frontend over f80... I know.. its crazy... but the f80 looks outdated now and I actually think the g80 is a step in the right direction. We're just used to F80 and will take some time getting used to a new bmw. Like e39 -> e60.

@@TazawaTanks yes it is good looking and one of the best sounding V8s out there only thing I don't like about them is they need more power cause it will struggle to beat a tuned gti golf add a supercharger or turbo would then make it move
Putting aside how the design dept approved this, what I love is it appears to be a drivers car. It’s got the right sound, power and is still a manual. As ugly as it is, I’ll take this over an EV all day, every day
BMW has lost its way from a design standpoint. For decades, BMW design represented a cohesive, beautifully restrained “form follows function” aesthetic, but that has been sacrificed in a misguided attempt to make some kind of a “statement”. Unfortunately, that statement is one of confused ugliness. It’s a pity, really.
If you stop listening to others saying it's ugly and actually go look at one for an hour or so it looks good.....too many ugly bandwagoners either way rather have this than some electric car 🤣
@@1xx1NINJAxx1 Shouldn’t have to go look at a car for an hour to convince myself it looks good 😂 Sounds to me you’re trying to convince yourself it looks “good”.
@@1xx1NINJAxx1 if you have to stare at a car for at least an hour just to give it the slightest bit of appreciation, then that’s one ugly fucking vehicle 🤣🤣
How long does it take to realize a painting, a vista, a building or a woman is beautiful? If you subscribe to the notion that takes one “an hour” of studying a car to form an opinion about its aesthetic appeal then thank God you were not my teammate, business partner or wingman! 😹
Thanks for calling it ugly straight up. Seems like most other journos are being somewhat apologetic about it or refuse to comment on "aesthetics". It's an ugly car and it won't age well.
There is nothing apologetic it's like none of you have actually went and saw the car side by side with an m2 or m5 it takes an hour to get used it and realize it's a better design by a mile....
@@1xx1NINJAxx1 No. It's a horrible design that makes me wince everytime I accidentally catch a glance. Last thing we would want is to see it in person.
I love this car actually, I think it's the peak of M cars... Comfortable and spacious enough, fast enough to give a 992 Carrera S a run for its money both on a track and on a straight line, despite being much less expensive. It's good to drive, it has good quality interiors, good infotainment, good safety features... It can also be used as an AWD so it has good traction everywhere. It's a wonderful all-rounder, nearly perfect. The design is polarizing but I don't mind it honestly. Besides, I value content more than looks. I don't care if it's automatic or manual, turbo or NA, it's a great sportcar and a most importantly a great all-rounder, possibly the best one in the market. The direct rivals are the the RS5 and the c63 AMG but none of them have the same performances of the BMW. The cars that rival the BMW in performances are in the league of the Aston Martin Vantage or the 992 Carrera S, but they cost a lot more and they're less usable for daily driving, less spacious, less versatile...
I’m sorry but the design grew on me. I just imagine the villain in a James Bond movie would drive this. It’s not beautiful in a traditional way but in a “I’m a bad guy” way.
From a BMW owner, thank you for calling it like it is... that gopher / rat tooth design is ugly. Period. I shouldn’t have to opt a color to minimize the ugliness... I’ve seen this on the freeway and if my windows weren’t tinted, I’m sure the driver could see me do the “Chris Bangle” head shake... and no BMW owner wants to see another shake their head at them... lol
Both are way overpriced for what they offer. BMW M's are nowadays for social media poseurs.Any real car enthusiast will avoid this ugly, underwhelming car.
Yes, everyone is moaning how "manuals are dying" and when they are the only brand in it's class still making them no one cares and moans about a fucking grille... Are you car guys or fashion designers ?
@@basithph8958 The regular 4 series is much worse, yes. The M3/4 in dark colours are not bad I also like the 7. The 3 series G20 looks the best. M340i in dark blue or black 👌👌👌
BMW is getting more confused by the day. If I wanted a luxury boat, Id buy an M5. The whole point of the M3/4 was to have a competitive sports sedan/coupe. They may as well get rid of the rest of their line up considering the car is now the equivalent of the 5 to 8 series .
Absolutely love the 1st gear ratio! 35 mph top speed in first gear is perfect! THANK YOU BMW!!! We don't need 45 55 or 65 in first gear. It's not a track only car. We want the shift that gear box And 25-40 mph increments is perfect.

E46 was peak M3, IMO. But E9X was an excellent follow-up, and definitely comes in at #2. Either way, both are leaps better than the modern supertanker M-cars
At a stand still, the blacked out grille doesn't look THAT bad on a white car. I almost thought it was growin on me - untill I saw the exterior driving shots. It looks like a harelipped whale.

One of the more recent videos on the channel is of them driving Zach's old M3 with the new European tires on it. They go into driving dynamics there. Here it is: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-87W9wnjk3Qk.html
Pretty harsh review, but justified I guess. I'm baffled at the cost, who TF is buying cars at these prices? Especially a M3 that will be outdated and worth less than half in 5 years. I'm guessing a big part of the price is inflation and the dropping value of the dollar.
I have seen the new M4 in person. The grill is bad, but not as bad as in pictures or video. That being said, it doesn't match the rest of the car. The side profile is soft and looks almost GTR. It doesn't match the aggressiveness of the front. Overall, the car just looks way too long. I think the design is a big fail. Then you have the G80 where the front doesn't quite match the sedan's looks either, but at least the side profile looks good.
I was wondering what I was seeing in that side profile! It does look like a GT-R, Nissan is ahead of the curve again with a 13 or whatever years old car
Love the comparisons to the Civic Type R, specifically regarding steering and road feel, and shifter feel. Highlights what an incredible job Honda has done with that car, and I look forward to the next gen one, hopefully with a rowdy "fun" exhaust mode, and customizable driving parameters. As for the Bimmers, I too would choose the M2 CS over this M3/M4 in a heartbeat, and pocket the ~$20,000 change.
BMW are simply building better commuter cars. Everything should be getting faster and more powerful, more confidence inspiring and more agile. Something like the M4 is just an example of a regular car that's better than the one before it. When BMW try and tell their customers that the M badge means there's an experience attached to the markup, they're selling the idea in a lazy way. It's easier to give your driver a bunch of modes so that they can become the chassis engineer, or dyno engineer and so on. BMW, and many other companies are passing that effort on to customers and I for one am beginning to get sick of the car that can do everything. "The ultimate driving machine. If you push these buttons, and these buttons... Oh, and the M button, and you have to adjust the brake sensitivity...And..."
Well there's the Miata shifter, nearly any Honda shifter and then there's everything else. BMW's shifters have always been good but not exceptional - look at Harry's recent E46 M3 CSL review. My Honda's an auto and BMW's a stick so what do I know.
@@Chris-hw4mq Definetly not. A Golf R looks like a hatchback should. Civic Type R looks like an 18 year olds wet dream. All sorts of spoilers and scoops and splitters. It's little boy looks for big boy money. Doesn't make sense.
Great that it has a manual option, but they really could have put a little more effort in how the stick looks? This is like, yanked straight out of an E36, just looks out of place in that modern interior.
Strongly disagree on the looks. I like it. Looks aggressive as a sporty car should. And it’s ridiculous to compare it with a Civic Type R. The R is a $20K car with factory mods to bring it up to $35K (for the FK8 at the time of this video). It is more raw and simpler because it isn’t a luxury car first and sporty second. It is an economy car first and sporty second. No one is going to spend $35K and complain it is loud or basic. The M4 as all BMWs including the Ms are supposed to be fairly luxurious first. They’re supposed to be quieter, comfortable, and plush first and sporty second. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Type R (FL5 more than the previous gen). It’s driving dynamics should be compared to a Corolla, GR86, Miata, Golf R or GTI, Veloster, etc., not an M2/3/4 or an Audi RS3/4/5 or a Merc C class. Do you want a raw, light, nimble car? Buy a Type R. Want a luxury car? Buy a 3 series / C class, RS or S Audi, a Cadillac CT-4/5, etc.
Not a fan of the new BMW design and size. It's so heavy it's far from the old E30 & E36 M3 which are my favorites! Less tech, less weight, better looking and more fun to drive!
I agree 💯. At first I was all bout the Frozen gray/blue, but when I got a good look at that Brooklyn Gray and how well it contrasts with the carbon rear diffuser/side skirts /front lip & roof I loved it. There are so many details on the car that get lost on dark colors (however I don't like white) so yessir, Brooklyn gray looks insane on the M3. PS I hate the m4 (mustang) like poison LOL.
As the owner of an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio I petitioned the BMW designers to change the "Rodent Teeth" on the front of the new M 3 / M 4 because they are ALWAYS in my REAR VIEW MIRROR and they're making me NAUSEOUS.....They replied that the kidney grille had to be enlarged so as to improve "under hood access" for mechanics as they will be there often....UGH !!!!
What’s good y’all I don’t watch tst that often but this man in the orange jacket is very good at explaining things alongside Matt I like this duo reviewing a car together
I hate this car more and more as I watch these videos.......like today when I heard it was 3,850 pounds!!! Seriously, I remember when BMW was so proud that switching from an inline 6 to the V8 only raised the weight slightly ......now we are back to an inline 6 and the weight has absolutely ballooned 🤦🏻♂️
Who knew M3/4's would become this unattractive to the level where I don't get to delve into all reviews and videos on the New M's. I don't care about its 0-100/0-200/100-200 figures or whatever else the paper says. What a fat ugly vehicle it has become to be and How on earth BMW has managed to destroy their legacy. Back in the days, M3's were a sole benchmark other car makers had to study in design and R&D for their sporty saloons. Well.. a benchmark? Definitely good old days are gone.
The cars attractive. Ppl complaining are losers. Everyone's so pathetic these days. Especially Americans. Especially especially democrats and republican americans. Those are the worst.
Thanks for not trying to be "creative" when talking about the monstrosity of a front end, like Chris Harris tried. "Hur the worse isn't even the front, but the mirrors". No! This thing is fat, expensive, big and horrendous. Great, great review though, as usual, Matt. BMW deserves to go bankrupt.
Hofmeister kink, strong shoulder line, short over hangs, beautiful kidney grill.. all the things that make a BMW are missing. It just looks like a mix of the previous gen Accord coupe, an Infiniti and a mustang from the side. Tsk tsk.
I like this car up until to the point I see it upfront. These nostrils are still so awful... It's not even their size. It's how out of place they look. There is no harmony in it, no beauty, no effort made by designers. Big nostrils can be fine and look nice (like CSL Hommage Concept, nostrils are big, but the car as a whole looks very very good), but unfortunately this is not the case which is a shame because the car itself seems to be very good apart from some design features.
I test drove the M3. It does pipe in a lot of sound, but the exhaust itself sounds better than the F80. My buddy has an Akrapovic on his F80 and feels the new G80 sounds better stock. The M4 is a particularly ugly car no doubt about it, but the M3 aesthetically appears much more aggressive, and the body lines suit the car much better as well. The M4 is just too rounded.
Nice car performance wise. Super ugly exterior. Like most new cars, too much fucking technology crammed into it. 18:07 lol, I was thinking the same thing.
You asked? I couldnt tell from the thumbnail this was a BMW? Looks like a base Mustang, So they put a massive grill in the front? The roof line is not BMW at all, truth is thank god for the hideous grill it keeps your eyes off the rest of the car.
