This an overview of the Borax Wagons and the start of the Water Wagon project. The Water Wagon will be the culmination of the Borax Wagon replication effort promoted by the Death Valley Conservancy. The DVC is focused on preserving the history of the Death Valley Era of which the Borax Wagons played a major role. This is part of what is known as the Big Hitch Era in the Mojave Desert that was a way of life in the mid to late 1800s.

I love to see those old photos, thanks. Remembering my grandfather hand advanced, hand driven drill press with home made spade drill bits, not in my time. I also love that old shear you used at the “dogs”, never seen the backwards handle. Yes I do like a lot of explanation, though I know what you do and why just by seeing it most times but always have a chance to learn something. Thanks for the many enjoyable videos.

The Borax story is a testament to Americans true grit and amazing motivation . It must be preserved and showcased as such for as long as possible . History , mostly good , sometimes bad ( and always gritty and sweaty ) is an important lesson around the globe .but extra valuable to Americans like myself and others . So glad to see these renewed projects come to fruition . Especially @ this current time when our nations history is trying to be covered up and discarded . We wish to thank you for the valuable lessons you consistently teach us about our important and priceless past . And thanks also for keeping the traditions and heritage of our past alive . We know you think of it merely as a profession , but you are far above and beyond the norm . Just wanted to let you know it's much appreciated , more than words can express . Keep up the great work ! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

They were forge welding and hot cut on anvil without angle grinders, epic... And I mean, forge welding on it's own is not a big deal, but forge weld those tires to an exact precise diameter is an art. This must be the hardest thing, and those folks old days just does that without blinking.

As a teenager pumping gas after school, the garage had a big can of borax hand cleaner by the wash up sink. Just dip your fingers in, scoop out some and scrub up. I remember watching "Death Valley Days" on our BW Zenith back in the day, complete with 20 mule team Borax commercials.

Another excellent video...no need to speed through anything....well, maybe the grinding...I've done a lot of metal work and Never, Ever heard anyone say..."I like to grind"..... Back in the 1960's my brother spent a LOT of time camping and dirt-bike riding around Death Valley, and just last year, 2018, spent a few days there while on a cross-country Motorcycle trip..at 68 years old!! But the bike was a new Kawasaki 750 Versys.....Ever since grammer school in the early 1950's, he was well versed in the culture of the days when all this was 'Reality'.... And...the steady rest on the lathe....that answers a few questions I had...!!

I agree, must be some, democrats lurking about. Just not very bright individuals, no respect for an art as well as a skill only a hand full of people have. Once they are gone the trade pretty much dies with them. What a downer. !!!!!! In 20 years they will be made of plastic, aluminum and carbon fiber. Not what you would call traditional........
@Crewsy

Roger Marshall Why would you even think to say it’s Democrats? You are the reason people think so lowly of Republicans. No reason to bring politics into the discussion at all but you seem to need to validate your pathetic life by thinking your better than someone else because they may think differently politically and therefore ASSume that because someone thinks differently than you it must be the same political reasons. I could say the same thing about Republicans based solely on you but I am smart enough to know that not all (very few) Republicans are as closed minded as you are.

If you have a ball bearing on a short bar in your tool post I bet you could press the bands on the hub by rotating the hub and adding pressure with the carriage with the bearing to the edge of the band to walk the band on just a thought save on hammering at awkward angle I all ways love your work from the uk
