Historical and iconic with incredible staying power, Briggs & Little's success can only be attributed to the intergenerational tenacity of family and love of all things WOOL. If you are Canadian and Knit...you know it! If not...take the TOUR. It's in the officially bilingual province of New Brunswick with an infinite Canadian history. La Violette is the local yarn shop extraordinaire and so is Manon in even more historical Bouctouche. En Francais s'il vous plait! Look over there!! No...That Hat Over There! The book of patterns that brings SEXY back to KNITTING. Don't be shy...have a peak...LIVE & LEARN a bit. Warning...you may just BLUSH!

Briggs & Little started in 1857 and was established as Briggs & Little in 1916. The adorable shop you toured was La Violette Yarn and Gift Shop. The hat book with the excellent models is That Hat Over There! Christopher, I laughed so hard picturing you crossing the street with coffee and tea in hand and your wooly underpants falling off and then your talk about how microbial they are and how you washed them only two month ago- well, I snorted my coffee all over the place! Too funny! Great tours of New Brunswick and now I want to go. The Acadian history is so interesting. Lots of great documentaries and books about it. Your Canadian sweater in B&L roving is going to be amazing! Jamie, can’t wait to see your new creation!

Hi from Oregon! Thank you Jamie for the excellent explanation of the history of Arcadia. I’m a history buff and love hearing your stories. It is sad that so many people were displaced and died because of the fight over the land. I’m American and hate what we did to the Native Americans. Hopefully at some point we will learn from our mistakes. Christopher, I love the wooly underwear story! You two crack me up! Keep it up! Love your channel.

want to add another comment. Thank you so much for sharing the history of Acadia. My family (I was born Vienneau) were not deported and were helped by the indegenous people to hide in the woods in Northern NB. So my father came from Tracadie which is about an hour or so from Bathurst. We were raised in Dalhousie on the Baie des Chaleurs accross from the Gaspe coast. My mom was from the Bouctouche area born in Rogersville, So many Canadians do not know the history of Acadia.

Pick me , pick me! Brigg’s and Little was established in 1916 but what even more amazing is that the business goes back to 1857 under different owners ( do I get extra points for reading the history on their website?). The store you went to was La Violette Yarn and Gift Co ( what a great store!) and the book was That Hat Over There. Great episode folks. And I am inspired to use B&L yarn for a project that I have been searching for over a year the right yarn for.

you went to several of my favourite places. I am from NB and my parents still live there, however, I now live in SW Ontario. I typically visit NB every 2-3 months and recently La Violette Yarn & Gift Co has become a regular stop- my Aunt and Uncle live in Bouctouche and I have spent a lot of time there. I am thrilled that this beautiful little shop is on my way to their place. I make regular pilgrimages to the Briggs & Little mill (1857) and may have far more wool than I should. I am working on my second Canadian Pride sweater- one for each of our sons. I think the That Hat Over There book you reviewed might be a good addition to my collection. A little eye candy- I mean the hats lol- is good for everyone. I loved this episode and look forward to the next.

Such a nice episode! I love New Brunswick and its history, maybe because they fought a lot to keep or to find back their lands... And the history of Briggs and Little is impressive. I loved that yarn, I just love it more! Created in 1857, that's a long life for a family enterprise! I also heard about La Violette yarn shop by a New Brunswick knitter, Julie-Ann (Twin stitches design), and since then, I want to visit this yarn shop next time I visit my aunt, who lives like half an hour from Bouctouche! And the famous book you reviewed us "That hat over There", and I am curious to look at this book!

I remember visiting the memorial church at Grand Pre 30 years ago when I was 13 years old and being struck by the sadness/cruelty of the Acadian expulsion. Thank you for including the history of this in your episode! Love you guys and especially Jamie’s history lessons! 🥰 Briggs & Little was first started up in 1857 and first officially named Briggs & Little in 1916. You visited La Violette Yarn & Gift Co in Bouctouche. ‘That Hat Over There’ was the book you reviewed. 😊

Briggs and Little Mill was established in 1916 but the mill was started in 1857. The name of the shop you visited in Bouctouche is La Violette Yarn and the book you reviewed was That Hat Over There. I definitely think you two should apply to be models in That Hat Over There publications. How fun that would be and to do it at your Cabin. Maybe Christopher can wear his wooly undies with the hat he knitted?

The sheep breeds are very command in Canada. Mainly meat animals, not the best fleeces for yarn. But I find that B&L yarn is extremely durable. I have a vest that is over 20 years old and is not wearing out. Even though I wear it daily in the winter.
