Fire is a great follow-up to Dope. One to check out to show off their amazing choreo skills would be ON: Kinetic Manifesto Film - Come Prima. To show off the vocal line you might check out The Truth Untold. I think there's both a live version of that one plus a lyric video, but no official MV. A good one to show off the rap line would be Ugh! or Ddaeng. (I will edit my typos in a second here LOL)

Hi dear. Your favorite 68yo Army here. Very few of BTS's songs are about romantic love and the majority are written directly to their fans. And a lot of them are biographical, telling their own stories...like "Dope". When you read the lyrics and realize that they speaking directly to Army it puts a whole new spin on it. Welcome to Army, dear. Hurry back.💜

This song is actually a response to people who criticized BTS. In 2015 they were finally gaining popularity in a Korea that had been traditionally dominated by the big 3 Kpop companies (SM, YG, and JYP) and many people tried to find excuses for why a band from a small company could be outselling groups from these big companies. Accusing them of all kinds of crazy things including buying back their own albums to boost numbers for the charts (which their company couldn’t have afforded to do anyway) This song is them declaring that their success comes from their hard work. V’s line, “We worked all night every day, while you were out clubbing.” Suga’s line,”even if our youth rots in the studio, we won’t regret it.” J-Hope’s line I can’t remember perfectly, but it’s something like, “ we’re drenched in sweat unlike you other weak, whiny idols.”

The song is actually quite meaningful with the lyrics regarding the Sampo generation - "given up on 3" re dating, kids, marriage. "Given up on 5" refers to a work and your own home. 10 would be life.

Dope actually is a fairly deep song. While you got the outer framework of the song, what was missed is actually very Korean and involves significant social criticism. Korean society as it has matured economically has evolved to a point wherein the younger generations must give up what they deem fundamental human rights. At the point this song was composed there were seven rights kids were talking about, such as being able to afford housing or raise a family. Younger people were being deemed in the papers and by elders the giving up generation. It was felt they didn't try hard enough and that is why things were not coming to them. In the song RM lists the numbers assigned to the things which young people were giving up. Most Korean kids would have known what those numbers meant. Suga interjects "enemy, enemy, enemy" about the older detractors. RM asks "can I get a little hope"? Suga injects "energy, energy, energy". Hope is the seventh thing young people are said to be giving up. There is an eighth now but I will not go there. So, the song is using how a much-maligned group like BTS was working harder than others who were being silver spooned by Big Corporations and that work is yielding unexpected results. It is telling young people not to give up on their dreams in the face of adversity. Remember we worked hard and moved the bar a bit. You can too. I am not sure if you have been expoised to the litany of early BTS adversities but ARMYs were well aware as they were dealing with them in tandem. The song Dope is counterbalanced by the song Fire which literally opens with Dope playing. It literally takes BTS's attitude to the young generation and gives them permission to experience a measure of freedom and make mistakes as part of the process of growing up. While it also takes a dig at "spoons" ultimately it encapsulates BTS's appeals to youth with the words I'll forgive you (even if adults and society generally are less prone to do so).

Dope was the first BTS music video I ever saw in 2016. I must have watched it a dozen times in a row for the dancing. I stayed up for the next 24 hours gobbling up content. I finally got to see them live in 2021 in LA. The best concert ever! I’m 70 & I’ve seen most of the great rock bands from the 60s onward live so I have a baseline for comparison. 😂

A lot of their music videos have explanation videos along with them that explain what the music video and the song are about. Sometimes the song by itself has one meaning and the video has another meaning from the song because it's part of the fictional storyline.!

Their songs usually have a color-coded lyric video so you can learn the lyrics. The music video if there is one for that song. an explanation of the song and music video. A shooting sketch video sort of a documentary of the making of the music video. Some songs have two different videos for example the song ""ON"" off their map of the soul 7 album release in February 2020. The first video released for the song was On Kinetic Manifesto Film, Come Prima a performance video. The second music video was ""ON"" official MV it was an extremely theatrical video like a short film more than a regular music video. The first video release four map of the soul 7 was a contemporary dance performance by a western dance troupe from a European country or the US for the song Black Swan. Then BTS performed Black Swan live on a US talk show as their special stage for the album. Then they released the on kinetic manifesto film come primer video. Then a few weeks later they've released the 2nd on music video a week or two after that they released their music video of Black Swan.

Dope is the first song I listened from BTS and voilá: ARMY forever. Fair warning: it may take you a little while to go through all their discography. It is ok if you are more interested in the music, melody or choreo. Not everyone prioritizes lyrics. It is just that they are sooooo goood, so clever. Great messages. How many 2015 songs can you listen today that feel fresh, not outdated or old. This could be released today and it would break the charts.

The song is about them working hard day and night to succeed while other kids their age go out clubbing. BTS got a lot of hate at times out of jealousy and ignorance, so they were basically saying, “we worked hard to make it”. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

That was the clarinet one of two instruments V plays. He plays the clarinet and the trumpet. The story is he accompanied his friend 2A big head entertainment audition for BTS. It was his friend's audition he just went to give him moral support. Somebody asked me if he wanted to audition too. he said I'm just here to watch but yes, I would. So, he's saying they asked anything else he danced anything else beat box anything else he wrapped anything else play the clarinet anything else no that's all I've got! About a week later he got a phone call from big hit he was the only person at the audition that passed. He moved to Seoul became a trainee and became the 6th member of BTS just before Jimin.

Their discography is massive. You have a lot of fantastic music to discover. Their work ethic and output is nuts. By the way, there are also 9 solo albums out so far by members. Eight by the rap line and one by Jimin. Five of the rapline solo albums are “mixtapes” which are fantastic and high quality albums done by the artists not the label, and released for free on SoundCloud as gifts for ARMY. It was my first time hearing IU and she has such an ethereal voice, it was beautiful! Was so sorry to hear you won't be reacting to any more BTS videos. Thanks for reacting to Dope. Yes, this is about their struggle to succeed, and more. They got an enormous amount of hate at this time (and it got worse later) and several of their songs include a response to some of the criticisms (which are usually trumped up and fake) - there is a reference in this song to that factor of their lives. It is indeed a reflection on their incredible work schedule (10 hours a day (at least) in the practice studio, then going home to the dorm and writing songs until dawn, then up at 10am to go to the dorm again).but it also calls out societal criticism of young people and encourages young people themselves not to give up, but, like BTS, to keep trying. In fact BTS were fuelled by passion for music but also by desperation. They literally HAD to succeed. Their book "Behind the Story" which is recently published gives many more details about their ten years since debut, and even before, when they were trainees. ARMY fof even a few years already know a lot (because we talk to each other) but this book is incredibly rich in details I did not know, and in particular uses their own voices reflecting on events to bring it all to life. Well worth a read if you can get on (I heard that Tesco has it on the shelf at £21ish - it's a positive BRICK so that's cheap and well worth it! - I paid a lot more but still worth the money) I like to use a translation site for the lyrics, since it also offers some brief notes on wordplay (which often incorporates between English and Korean !!!) and explanation of cultural references. It doesn't offer interpretations but sometimes a back-story. It's invaluable. For example, I know you're more excited by musical considrations, but there is indeed so much more to their work (hard as that may be to believe): this song for example makes a lot of use of puns and references to Korean slang which illustrates some of the social problems for young people. doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/?s=dope will take you there.

Just a quick note: Dope came out right around the Time BTS was being accused of copying other groups' hair colors, concepts, etc. So when Jimin sings "This is Bangtan style" I believe that is what he is referring to. Also, unlike many other idol groups, they didn't play around, didn't go clubbing, etc. Their work ethic (self-imposed) even impressed their managers.

You're right....this song is very inspirational and a bit of a jab at naysayers. Remember .... there is a YT channel called DKDKTV that gives the songs, when needed, the explanation from a Korean perspective because sometimes the lyrics only skim the surface....i.e. 'Daechwita', 'Persona', 'Ugh', 'Baepsae', etc. and especially 'Spring Day', where an explanation is necessary because it is intentionally vague on the surface with a deeper 'hidden' meaning. Always check or you'll miss out!

There's a lot more of songs you need to discover and react. I also recommend you check on live performances specially on awards shows so you can see how BTS do it.

at 9:26 not ther partner other groups and the industry in general. this song is dissing other groups who try to copy them without putting any effort in their own music and the bigger labels and media suppressing bts or making up lies about them "why kill us before we can try theyre the enemy enemy enemy" its also about older generations in general putting too much pressure on the korean youth. and theyre giving army and the younger generations strength to keep pushing forward "keep your heads up take my energy energy energy"

Love your reaction to what has always been one of my favourite BTS songs (along with around 50 others). This is one that once you get to know them you will recognise them quite easily whereas the live version of Best of Me is a real test for baby ARMY as they all have black hair and are dressed in black outfits rofl. I was the same when i first started watching them trying to work out who was who after a while you will be like me can recognise them so easily by their eyes or smile or lips lol. Also dont feel too pressured to answer all the comments or you will get overwhelmed very easily!.

Dope was one of the songs that got me hooked into them. Between the beat, the saxophone, their lyrics and energy, my eardrums were feeling a new sensation like a battery charging up to activate if that made any sense. Kinda like getting a power up mushroom in a Mario game.😄

The first one that sang that you didn’t know is JungKook. His title is main vocalist. He made history. “No”, “No More Dream” are a couple of their earlier songs that I really like.

GREAT REACTION!!! If i could recommend another guide of sorts, this one is called "The Most Beautiful Life Goes On: A Story of BTS". This ghide focuses more on their musical career and their accomplishments as a group. Its very inspirational and i can not help but get emotional while watching it. 문제가 많네요 이렇게 방탄을 처음부터 차근차근 보다보면 방탄의늪에 빠지는건 시간문제죠 그들의 그당시 어떤 생각을 하고있었는지 함께 공유하게되고 그게 또 남의 일이 아니라 내일이기도 하거든요 아하 이때 방탄도 이런생각을 했구나하고 동질감을 느끼게되고 방탄이 없는 얘기를 끌어다쓰는 사람들이 아니고 동시대를살아가는 그또래의 생각과 느낌을 곡에 반영하고 함께 헤쳐 나가자고 얘기하는걸 알게되고 그럼 폭 빠지게 됩니다 타가수가 사랑이 어떻고 이별이 어떻고 이런 노래만 할때 방탄은 현실에서 외롭고힘들때 어떻게 살아야하는지를 얘기하니까 어떤땐 방탄의 곡을 들으며 펑펑 울때도 있습니다 그러고나면 속이 시원해지고 또 하루를 살아갈수있는 힘을 얻기도하죠 방탄자신들이 죽을힘을 다해 한걸음씩 올라오며 자신들이 느낀걸 그대로 곡에 반영하고 그걸또 팬들이 그대로 느끼고 그래 방탄도 해낸걸 우리라고 못해낼리 없잖아 그렇게 힘을 내게됩니다 실제로 그런 사례들이 진짜 많습니다 아무튼 방탄 토끼굴에 빠지시게 축하합니다 ㅎㅎㅎㅎ 방탄아미 포에버 사랑하고 사랑한다 💜 😘 💗 💕 😍 💖 💜 😘 💗 💕 😍 💖 💜 😘 💗
