Hello my Whoop Friends. UPDATE: Something was wrong with the 75 1002 23k build from my last Pusher video with the Flightcontroller/ESC or the motors. The 1002 23k motors should have more power. I have now converted my tried and tested 75 1102 22k into a pusher and have seen that it has more power. But the conclusion remains the same. The pusher configuration has advantages and disadvantages (they remain about the same). But I found out something new: The efficiency penalty of a pusher configuration seems to be less the lighter the build is. So the difference in efficiency compared to the puller configuration is smaller the lighter the build is (and perhaps also the lower the airflow through the props/ducts).
WARNING: You can burn your ESC`s with Pusher builds! Starting the whoop is sometimes not possible for example outdoors on gravel or in the grass and there is a greater risk of burn an ESC when starting the drone on uneven ground. The Propeller should never stick out of the ducts like on my build with the high pitch props. I modified the hub of the low pitch props with my dremel, that's why they don't stick out of the ducts!
So should you build a pusher whoop? Yes, I still think it is at least not a bad idea to try it out (if you have the resources for it). It's fun to experiment and educational.. Trying out the "side grip" feeling and the "pusher throttle feeling" was a good experience for me and important for my general whoop engineering experience. With every new experimental build you learn to think outside the box and get better at it. I hope I can help some of you with this video to think outside the box and try new things.
I think there will be something more to come from me in this area.. Stay tuned..

Footage of my 75 1002 22k in normal puller configuration:
• RACING PRACTICE with 7...
Advantages and disadvantages of a pusher configuration in short (Updated 11.1.24):
Advantages:
- Nice "side grip" flight feeling
- Good throttle control (at least a different throttle feeling and lower hover point)
- The Throttle is tamed (maybe helpful on a 2S whoop)
- Less or no Prop/Duct in view
Disadvantages:
- Lower efficiency (lower flight times) up to 25% less efficient and sometimes higher! (depends on frame/strut/duct design and weight of the build, lower weight is better)
- Less thrust
- Less topspeed
- More noise
- Difficult to implement in normal whoop frames
- Needs some pid tuning (?)
- Needs a frame with few and thin struts (happymodel V4 frame)
- Often higher weight of the build compared to puller configuration (doesn't have to be but can)
- Starting the whoop is sometimes not possible for example outdoors on gravel or in the grass
- Greater risk of ESC burnout (when starting the drone)
- Poorer cooling. Higher temperature of the flight controller (approx. 75 degrees Celsius). In my case with 25mw vtx transmission power there were no problems. But higher transmission powers could lead to maybe to much heat
Possible uses for the pusher configuration:
- Lightweight 1S whoop build for very narrow and technical indoor tracks with very small gates
- Lightweight 2S whoop (pusher configuration to tame the throttle a bit)
Happy whoopin! Whoop whoop! :-)

Have you tried the fractal carbon frames with cut off ducts? The two fractals I have are amazing whoops I haven’t flown anything to top them.

No not yet because they are kinda heavy.. And weight (or ultimately power to weight ratio) is more important to me than, for example, a carbon frame with which I can make a better PID tune. Also because I usually only fly the BF stock tune, it doesn't give me much of an advantage. I hope you understand what i mean.. But maybe I get my hands on some fractal frames in the future..

you should check out spezilover's v4 design in rotorbuilds! he addressed some aspects and his builds are a lot lighter which even suprised me! Great content as always man! seeing you fly is making me want to fly too 😂

Thank you for your kind comment and your tip to spezilover`s V4 design. I love his creativity. But I think for me as a acro pilot 702 motors with 35mm 3 blade is overproped (i don`t like 2 blade on most builds)..

@@butterflyfpvyknow what, I will actuslly agree to that. I've reached a weird limit with my 35mm build - most beginners probably won't reach that limit for a while but it bothered me after several months with it. Gonna try those rcinpower 0802s with 40mm props soon with my new frame that's similar to Spezilover's V4. I fly primarily in my small room so I don't think I can go 1002s (which was my original goal).

How you managed to squeeze fc and vtx into mobula frame? Have you modified(cut) the frame? Also wandering, how it can be less efficient if it hovers on less throttle? Is it less efficient only when flying hard? I've tried long range build(or rather long time) with beta95x frame, and pusher is ~20% more efficient when hovering (9A vs 11A with puller). Can it be that efficiency problem is caused by propeller placement in ducts? Mostly it's desirable for the prop to consume air in every direction, but it should blow into duct, so it helps to direct air like jet engine nozzle. But when you build pusher on standard whoop frame, propeller is placed in the way that it works opposite - air intake is limited by ducts, but output stream is spread, because propeller is on the lowest edge of a duct.

It is a flightcontroller with integrated vtx. Pictures of the whoop are in the last part of the video. Thats interesting with your beta95x build. Maybe it is only when flying fast (racing). That might make sense. But personally I'm only interested in racing and flying fast. That's why pusher configuration is definitely more inefficient for me. Yes, I think your thoughts are correct. There are very many many factors. You can find a lot of information about it on the internet. Unfortunately, there are also many myths. A myth is that pushers generally are more efficient. They definitely aren't. But they can be in special areas of application. But in principle, with quadrocopters, any turbulence in front of the propeller should be avoided. After the propeller in the exhaust air flow, obstacles are less tragic. Unfortunately I can't explain everything to you either. I just know that it is definitely easier to do a puller config for racing. Pusher is possible but harder with many factors. But I might still experiment with pushers in the future. I think the most important thing is to experiment and have fun with it :-)

Which FC do you use? What amp ESC do the 1002's require? I use the HM diamond board on my 1s whoops (w/vtx & spi elrs onboard).
@butterflyfpv
@butterflyfpv 4 месяца назад
In this case the good old Happymodel Crazybee F4 FR 5A AIO (the old version) with redpine protocol. Was fine for rcinpower 1002 22k with 40mm props. Until I wanted to start this pusher build from the ground with the props sticking out of the ducts. Wasn't a good idea. An ESC is now dead...
@cccagley5276
@cccagley5276 4 месяца назад
Well, that dead esc is a drag. I was afraid those motors needed more than 5a.
@butterflyfpv
@butterflyfpv 4 месяца назад
@@cccagley5276 All clear! It was just a broken cable on the motor! I didn't see that at first... I will now solder the 1002 23500kV motors to this board and see if the 5A ESCs survive.. I can't explain to you exactly why these motors can handle 5A ESCs. The current peaks are probably simply smaller than, for example, with an 802 27k motor (which definitely needs 10-12A ESCs) I don`t know.. However, I wouldn't do it with the HM Diamonds! For some unknown reason, I had more voltage sag with my Diamonds than with this full size Crazybee F4 board..

Hi! What do you think about 1003 22k RcInPower for analog freestyle? Is the 1002 22k better ?

@@davidd2661 True! Thank you for thinking along!🤜🤛 I will add that!👌 I had no problem with overheating with 25mw vtx power (about 75 degrees celcius). But with hot outside temperatures and/or high VTX power of over 25mW, overheating could definitely be a problem in a pusher configuration with flightcontroller protection..
