Get my van her new shoes put on, on Monday, I asked my local Kwik fit and was told they didn't do them, so I've gone to a small local company, and got a great price fitted
@HelenandDave

Hi Neil, that's good. The fitter told me that each of the mobile fitters has a territory, think his covers about a 30 mile radius from the nearest City. It may well depend on where you live but, you're all sorted at a price you are happy with so RESULT!! thanks for watching. Dave & Helen.

Hi, Dave great video 📹 It's a minefield out there on tyres. I remember when I did my tyres back mid-last year it was very interesting watching the guy remove the trying bands and getting info about exactly what they do making our video was an eye-opener on how the tyre can get baked fmby the sun and disfigure the tyre and cracking. Your spare looked in really good shape. Cheers and thanks for sharing 👍 Paul

Hi Dave & Helen, Another great video and interesting watch 👍. You know me and my preference for manufactures original equipment, well last year I had three tyres ordered from Bailey which were changed during service time. I specified Tyron bands when we ordered the caravan 10 years ago and personally think they should be a standard fit. Looking forward to seeing the cleaning product review. All the best, Rob & Gail 😀

Hi Dave A very informative video. We just put 4 new tyres on our Pamplona after having a blowout on a recent trip. Tyres were coming up to 5 yrs old so decided on replacing the 4. Didn't do the spare as it's not ever been used and looked perfect. At £320 it's a price worth paying for safety.

Hi Dave. another great video. Very informative, I don't have Tyron bands on my van but do have TPMS. I have to agree with you about changing all 3 tyres. I have had my van 10 years now and both times I had new tyres I have had the spare changed as well. Many will say this might be unnecessary but for my own piece on mind I've done it for the sake of another £70/£80 well worth it IMO. I was surprised at the age of the new spare tyre though. Not sure I would have agreed to have that on a few months yes but over a year old, I'm nut so sure.
@HelenandDave
@HelenandDave Год назад
Hi Mark, thanks very much for watching and your comment. Completely agree, it’s not worth skimping on safety, all three regardless. I did feel a bit short changed on the date of the spare and I’ve done some research and a tyre can be sold as ‘New’ for up to 5 years from the date of manufacture providing it has been stored correctly. It is then good for a further 5 to 7 or even 10 years once fitted. Still changing mine every 5 from date of fitting though. ATB, Dave & Helen 👍

Nice and convenient, good price too 👍 .. My Unicorn tyres are being replaced during it's 5th service by the dealer in March £200 for two. The spare is good for another two years at least. I don't have Tyron bands but I do have TryPal TMPS ... Just a heads up I've also asked the dealer to replace two tyre valve sensors, according to TyrPal the sealed batteries within the sensors only last 3-5 years. Another £70 😟

Great Video Dave, not something I’ve considered. Probably only wish I had when I have a puncture and the tyre flies off!! As an aside I never see any vloggers advising on increasing car tyre pressures to tow. Is this something you do? My dealer said he never did!

I probably need to change the tyres on my little enclosed trailer too. I will take the opportunity to buy three new wheels with them and affix winter tyres to the existing wheels next winter when I get winter tyres for my car too. I'll then be able to go into snow country as normal tyres (or summer tyres) are not allowed in winter (🇯🇵). They are only 10" wheels so shouldn't be expensive. I also have the trailer M.O.T. (or 'shaken' as it is called here) coming up in September. So, it is probably a good idea.
@HelenandDave
@HelenandDave Год назад
Hi Andrew, challenging climate by the sound of it (from a towing perspective) are winter tyres allowed in Summer? Agreed, best to be MOT ready, you can't really put a price on your safety either. ATB, Dave ~& Helen.

Great video again Dave. I did wonder about what happens to all of these hardly worn tyres that come off caravans after less than 5 years use. Whilst I’m not a fanatical environmentalist, I have grown to have more awareness of the effects we have on the planet for our kids and grandkids. It’s good to see Kwik Fit have their own recycling plant and recycle 100% of the tyres they replace. All that said, it doesn’t feel good to me that tyres can be date stamped and maybe lose a year or two of their life before they’re even fitted. Surely they could solve that issue. That’s my Greta moment for the day 😂 We’ve always had Tyron bands fitted ever since we started caravanning many years ago, but thankfully never experienced them being used in anger. We’ve just bought a Tyrepal system for our new caravan which we pick up on Wednesday. Since retiring, I’m more aware of the potential for tyres to disrupt our travels now we go to more places with more shorter stops. Its sounds like your sticking with the great van you have 😉
@HelenandDave
@HelenandDave Год назад
Hi there Alan, I was a bit miffed about the spare being over a year old, so I looked into it (online) and by law a tyre manufactured within 5 years and stored in the correct conditions can be classified as new and once fitted is good for 5, 7 or even 10 years depending on how hard it's worked and cared for. I'm a bit more reassured now but will always change at the 5 year mark. Bet you are excited about the new van (what have you gone for). We have made a decision on the new van and will do the big reveal in our next video lol. Thanks for watching.ATB, Dave & Helen.

@@HelenandDave We had a big, heavy twin axle, fixed bed Swift Elegance 645. We always said we would do more multi-stopover trips when I retired and for this reason (plus wanting something my XC40 will tow) we decided to go with single axle, more living space hence no fixed bed, and also because we've had a few Swifts now (enjoyed them all) something different. We've gone with a Coachman VIP 520 which fits the bill. We had the side dinette layout a few times in the past and like the extra space. We also feel cheated by fixed beds which are normally only full length for one of each of our legs that goes in the middle 😊 As it happens, my wife has a bad back and sleeps better on the made up beds in the caravan anyway. We've added Duvalays for bit more luxury. Can't wait for the big reveal...

Hi, just had a chance to see your new tyres being fitted very professional. One thing I noticed is that the Tyrone bands require a special tool to remove them, having abit of research it seems you have make sure the tyre supplier/fitter is made aware of this as not all have the capability of fitting if tyron bands are on. One other thing how is your new caravan debate going 🙂 Paul and Joanne

Hi Dave and Helen really like your videos.This isn't tyre related but was thinking the cover you use to cover your caravan when its parked on your drive can you do the same when travelling to and from the sites as this would keep the dirt off the caravan?Or isn't it allowed and would it be a problem because of how far it comes down too?ie:The tyres.Thanks Matt.

Hi Colin, I hadn’t considered the over tightening with the air gun. I don’t ever recall ever having a tyre fitted when a gun hasn’t been used. Good point. Hi Tracey, thanks very much for watching and leaving a comment. TBH we’ve only ever used the mobile service. If you have a motor mover on your van then that would save the worry of reversing. If you don’t fancy that then you could always take the spare and one wheel off the van and take them in and put them on yourself but personally, I think it’s worth the money to get the mobile fitter in, saves a load of hassle. Commenting 7 months after post, but may interest you that here in Germany where we can hammer down the Autobahn at +200 km/h on ancient tyres on a car, if we add a trailer/caravan limit is 80 km/h. However, can get allowance to increase to 100 km/h under following circumstances: 1) Weight ratios car to trailer are in certain limits 2) Trailer is certified to 100 km/h, eg can't have leaf springs like my mega-stable Ifor Williams horse trailer, must have shock absorbers. (Ifor Williams has 100km/h EU licence but doesn't apply in Germany - we are sovereign here!!) 3) Tyres have a speed rating of at least 120 km/h AND 4) Tyres not older than 6 years. So if you have new tyres fitted that are already 18 months old, it won't be long before MoT (=TÜV every 2 years) will insist on new ones to get a pass!
@HelenandDave
@HelenandDave 8 месяцев назад
That’s very interesting. Tyres are possibly my biggest safety concern but touch wood 🪵 so far no issues at all. We have been lucky but at 5 years it’s new boots for us! I wouldn’t be surprised though if the age limit you describe (TUV) was introduced here at some point. 60 MPH is plenty fast enough for me 😂😊 ATB and thanks, Helen & Dave 👍
