Your product reviews provide the best information for those of us constantly wanting to keep up and use the best products in the industry. Your one of the very few RU-vidrs that call out the pros and cons of competing products. Many other detailing channels will not talk about weaknesses in specific products and this information is important, especially when it comes to compounds and polishes. CarPro makes a lot of excellent products and it’s nice to see they are improving their abrasives and keeping up with the latest advances in abrasive technology. Thanks for telling it like it is!

If anyone gets dusting or bad dusting, use a tiny amount of parrafin oil or nanolex optimizer to eliminate it. Ive used it for years on sticky paint, wool pads to keep the fibres moist and with dusty compounds. Back in 2007 i had the idea of the universal pad that can be modified to suit any situation. I also thought that prior to it coming to reality if it ever does, that pad ranges with manufacturers would shrink from 5-7 foams down to 3 then just 2 pads, one fibre one foam. Weve seen it with Rupes foams and a few other brands. Compounds and polishes from the past and a few still today have excellent abrasives but so many of them fall down in the design of the overall formulation. Naptha, dearomatised kerosene, stoddard solvent. clearcoat softeners that may hurt the paint binders, water in oil formulas not oil in water as they should be, being loaded with oils and greasy or really dusty. Its time for many manufacturer's to dump those old formulas in the bin and innovate. Thanks for your excellent videos Sandro, you do it well.

hello, the menzerna 400 traditional line but a new formula, black container, silver label, is it the same in terms of cut as carpro's ultra cut? another question, have you noticed any change in terms of the cut from the menzerna 400 old line to the menzerna line with the new formula? I'm not talking about the Green, just about the new reformulated formula of the traditional 400 that generates less dust. greetings from Argentina.

I’m honestly not 100% sure whether the older FG400 and newer FC400 are different, I thought it was more of an update in labelling and marketing, but there could be some minor tweaking. Without doing some side by side testing it’s hard for me to compare FC400 to Ultracut especially since it’s been a while since I last used any Menzerna compounds, sorry.

Hi Sandro, I'm a little late to the scene but truly enjoy your reviews and being a beginner who has just entered the world of DIY detailing, it's a great comfort to me that you are around to share your experiences with the various products out there...one can really be totally lost (or would have just given up) before they even started...I've more or less narrowed down to using Carpro products simply given their ease of availability here where I am located. I would like to just get one clarification from you that when you said that Ultracut is pad dependent, did you mean that Ultracut can also be used for light swirls or marring as long as I use a lighter cutting pad and vice-versa for heavier swirls and marring, a medium to heavy cutting pad? Appreciate your reply...kudos on your videos, just fantastic details...👊
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 2 года назад
Great to hear that mate, and yes that’s what I meant: used with lighter pads and less aggressive techniques, UltraCut can be used to remove light defects in a less aggressive manner and used with more aggressive techniques and pads it can be used to address more severe defects. The other import thing to factor in is the hardness of the paint, as on softer Japanese paints it may not finish quite as well and cut a lot more, whereas on harder Euro paints it should finish much better and won’t be quite as aggressive by comparison.

I’m after the fastest cut, and nicest finish I can get. If you could only have one compound and pad combo right now after you’ve tested: TLC+, Griots FCC (I love this compound), Ultra-cut, and any other heavy cutting compounds. Which products are you reaching for, with the paint being medium to hard?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
That’s a hard one but I guess the best way to answer that would be to state which combination I use the most which is probably Nv Precision on the Lake Country Blue HDO foam pad, but as good as compounds and pads are getting there’s still no one combination that does it all on all paints with all defects and especially if you want to be respectful and not remove more clear coat than is necessary by just jumping to a more aggressive combination that you know can remove the defects but at the expense of removing more clear coat than necessary. I know there’s a segment of detailers (even some high end ones) that seem to immediately just to jump to aggressive combinations to start with when in many cases a lighter combination that will retain more clear coat would have worked, but that’s just not what I like to do, once clear coat is gone it’s gone forever, so that’s why I start light and only get more aggressive as I need to, and that’s why I do a lot of testing because every paint and it’s defects are different.
@hayden199516
@hayden199516 3 года назад
@@CarCraftAutoDetailing Very true indeed, and I agree with the entire statement. I too always start low and work up in terms of aggressiveness. However I can’t seem to find a compound I love besides Cutmax, and Fast Correcting Cream. My only desire is a very good cut (of course) but also finishes down so only a second light polish is left to do. I’ve not tried many, honestly. That being the reason I’m after the most aggressive “go to combo” of pad and compound, for those jobs that need that extra muscle. 🙂 Also, do you believe Perfect Finish contains fillers? I’ve not been able to find any 100% concrete evidence, but I enjoy it. I don’t want to be masking imperfections with durable fillers. Have a great day, Sir! Keep it up with the amazing content, as usual!

UltraCut will be a bit more aggressive in cutting the paint back to remove more server defects, but Ultimate Compound will get you there in the end as well. You really have to make sure the defects are still contained within the clear coat as if there have traveled deeper, no compound can remove them, so try and find that balance of improving the finish without going to far and burning through the clear

@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing Год назад
Yes I still think UltraCut is great. I’d say it creates a more uniform haze that is easily cleaned up with a following polishing stage and it’s very easy to wipe off generally with quite a quick polishing cycle in most cases. S2 tends to need longer polishing cycles and can be a little more sticky to wipe off if you don’t break it down adequately, but I do feel it tends to finish better overall, though cut wise I’d say they are very close. So I think it comes down to your style or preference as well as understanding that the method you use will change the experience and results you have with them both.

Hey mate, top notch info as usual. I usually press the like button when I get the notification of a new post 😂. It looks like UltraCut can be the perfect 1 step. @CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
Thanks and on harder paints you could certainly and cut and finish near perfect with Ultracut alone and a couple of different pads, but on medium to soft paints you may need something a little finer if you want that near perfect finish. I would really like to see Carpro’s other compounds updated but I wouldn’t necessarily say they are obsolete, it just depends on more individual working styles, paints and results. Not everyone is going to to have the exact same experience as me, so that’s why I always say that you need to judge based on you’re own experience with products.

Thanks mate, if it’s cleaning off residue between polishing cycles that you’re asking, without compressed air I’d use a slightly stiff brush and run it over the pads while I turn the machine on - it’s not quite as effective as using compressed air but it’s the next best thing. Some places will sell specific pad cleaning brushes as well. For a deeper clean on the fly you can also spray some water onto a pad, use your brush to give it a quick scrub and then turn the machine in fool speed to spin the residue off into a bucket and then use a cloth to dry the pad. hi Sandro. ....how would ultra cut do with green hexlogic or carpro polishing pad?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
Well the LC orange foam HDO pad I used in the video is similar to the Carpro orange foam pad, and it did fairly well. If you are using it or any other coarse cutting compound with finer foam pads I would suggest reducing the amount of product on the pad, and initial using some decent pressure and that will help it finish better, and on a mud to hard paint it can actually finish very well.

Hey Sandro! In a previous video, you mentioned that S2 Black was possibly your new favorite Rotary compound, and you mentioned TLC+ is generally excellent at being pushed harder than some others. With your initial thoughts, where does Ultracut stand for you in a Rotary/Wool heavy cutting situation? Do you feel it can be pushed as hard as TLC+/S2 Black? Generally speaking, where do you feel the cut of Ultracut stands vs TLC+ & S2 Black?
@CarCraftAutoDetailing
@CarCraftAutoDetailing 3 года назад
If I had to compare Ultracut to two other compounds it would probably be S2 and TLC+ as there is definitely a lot of similar characteristics between the 3, but maybe it’s a little closer to TLC+. I almost feel like Ultracut runs a little cooler than any other compound I’ve used - I guess it’s got something to do with its unique lubrication, and it also seems to quite adaptable to both longer shorter more gentle and more aggressive styles. I think in the stress test S2 still seems to be able to go the longest with the most aggression and resist dusting the most but there’s not that much in it and I would say a ultracut has a slightly easier wipe off of the 3 and cut is really close with all three. The truth is they are all great with just some slight differences and depending on the paint, you’re environment and technique it can really go either way in a lot of tests.

I am currently prepping a newer (and VERY trashed) ZL1 Camaro for Nova Pro - both Ultracut and TLC+ are working extremely effectively on my Shinemate 6/21 and LC Low Lint Lambswool. Thanks, and if you’re looking for a good balance of user experience, friendliness and ability, the Rupes is a great choice. Hi, how is the lubrication compared to menzerna 400? I did my first paint correction with menzerna 400/3800 with a rotary polisher last week. When using the 400 with shine mate knitted wool pad i felt like the machine was controlling me. It was terrible to use, it felt dry even before my first pass. I tried to use more or less product but nothing worked. Machine was going where it wanted not where i wanted hahaha. However the polishing with 3800 and red shine mate pad was more controllable. Do you think the Ultracut might solve this issue? Sorry for the long question
@CarCraftAutoDetailing

I think the lubrication and rotation of your pads will be better as UltraCut tends to resist drying, clumping and dusting better. But the specific pad could have also played a part in that.

Foam pads do tend to be (generally) nicer to work with, especially with finer polishes. Hey Sandro - I watch all your stuff, it's literally the best. I know the information is probably lurking in all your videos, but could you make a video with "this is what you should get as a beginner". I want to detail my own car, but there's so many pads, DA/Polishers, compounds etc. that it feels like no matter what you select at first you go wrong. Many of the tools I imagine you can get similar results, some just easier or faster - which is obviously important for someone making a business happen. But for all of us who just want our cars to look great and do the odd polish for our selves and friends - where would you begin?

@@CarCraftAutoDetailing That would be awesome. A few of my own thoughts that might serve as an inspiration. Is a clear coat measurer needed? Do you need to have a polisher that can take multiple sizes of pads, or do you need multiple polishers? What is the minimum amount of types of pads you should get to get a great finish - less tools is probably a higher risk of marring, so you need to make it a two step correction which means more pads. Personally I am less interested in "this is a great buy for the money" - I just want to make sure I get the right things.
