No offense, but I fear you don't get the show. It's about human beings and their flaws. Mainly the ones created by others, like Lennys struggels because of his parents, Gutierrez because of abuse, Cardinal Kurtwells for the same reason, Sister Marys because her parents also didn't want her... But all these terrible things aren't an excuse for being a bad person. Lenny, a person who was cold-hearted because of his parents, learned to actually LOVE (anbother big point) and as it was said in the end he once really believed in something. Also, even if there are signs that he is a saint, that doesn't make him a perfect person... he is just a human being and flawed, doesn't matter what powers he had. He was just human and had to grow upon his past. There are so many messages hidden, but none is anti-catholic or anti-religious. Like it's just not the point to show people who are all super lovely and live exactly how the Bible wants them to and so on. Maybe some things seem to be "ugly" and not that beautiful how we would wish, but that's how this world works...

Boys, so young and sweet! There were no questions at the end. You have missed it all, too focussed on the politics and caught up in analogy. LOL! Bless you those who do not have wisdom to see the BIG picture....breathe and watch The Young Pope again..and again.....xxx

Indeed, you have to see the forest from the trees, or more likely, the mystery behind all the robes. Pius XIII is fully human and almost divine...the beauty of it all is a proof God exists.

I was trying to word a reply to this video but then I read this comment (and your other one) and you summed these kids review up perfectly.

Where were Jude Law's acting chops in the earlier episodes? Beneath your radar. He is--always has been--an incredible actor!

Oh boy in the middle making the most noise, you need to slow down and understand all the characters and their age. You are not meant to look it from 'the whole Catholic perspective' you are meant to look at the big picture. That's what you miss in your youth and naivete. The cleverness about The Young Pope is that it gives breath to those who intellectulise the message, and those who FEEL the message. Which ultimately, as Jesus said, is LOVE. But do not think that God does not dismiss your faults and what you have done in your life, HE will call you to account. As he will me. Just a gentle warning: don't deny or diss God, or try to bully Him into submission, or try to silence him, because you think you are smarter and more keen. Arrogance on this level is not a wise move. Do you not wish to be respected as a human being? Do you not wish to also be heard as this critique displays? So seeks the Divine, who has great power, more than you have. But he does NOT shout. He does not bring fear. He is just listening to you, quietly in the corner of the room, waiting for you to hear Him.

I personally loved the Young Pope. Yes, there were cringe worthy moments(mostly the inappropriate scenes) but over all I thought it was a beautiful story of a human relationship with God. As a conservative Catholic, I always go into shows like these in fear of being attacked but not once during the show did I feel that way. I also have a huge crush on Jude Law so it was a win all around for me. Lol

The New Pope (a.k.a., The Young Pope, season 2) is currently in post-production. According to IMDb, the character Lenny Belardo is going to be in all 10 episodes.

The speech was the opening of Lenny's heart and connecting to the flock. I wouldn't dream of missing season 2. As for Lenny, he was deeply connected to God who often chooses imperfect vessels to do his will.

Hi guys, I hope you are all well. Thanks for your analysis of this series, I watched it because I really liked the series. I tend to agree with the other comments, and have concluded that you have missed most of the point of this show. It's not really about Catholicism, it's about love, discovering yourself and letting go of the past. Unfortunately, I think your reviews lack a lot of respect for the enormous amount of work that a lot of people have put into artistic creation. That's disappointing. And I didn't really like how you mocked one of these commenters so much in your previous review (ep. 7&8). Guys, don't disrespect like this. I think you are being too defensive about the show for not measuring up to what you were taught. And because of that you have vehemently rejected most things about this show without actually trying to understand what this is about. Be more open minded. You are only looking at this from a Catholic perspective and not really from a human perspective. Once you have opened your mind to this, maybe you will be more respectful to the work that has been put into this, and I'm taking from the writing, the acting, the set design and (even though you have a massive dislike to tailors) the wardrobe.

Hi! I've been trying to write a screenplay for the biblical story of Philemon. I've been struggling on the research for a while, and, being Protestant, have wanted to find out the traditional Catholic view on the whole account. I heard that there were some interesting church traditions concerning Archippus and the Colossians Heresay that I really want to hear, but I don't know where to find someone who would know about it to discuss it with. I couldn't find any Catholic seminaries in Kentucky (my state), so what do you all think would be best to do? Should I get in touch with one of the local Catholic Churches, or should I try to contact the nearest out-of-state seminary?

I have the same opinion than some of the comments. I think you may have miss the true point of the show. I tried to explain my opinion, so sorry in advance for the mistakes, you know, not native English, etc... For me, it isn't that much about religion and church. Sure, it takes place there, but it's more about parental figures (which we all have trouble with), absence, figuring one-self out, growing out of (or at least despite) our flaws, and most of all, showing to the audience the paradox of human nature. That's why I didn't agree with that review. I watched it because it's one of only one about the show. But it's a mistake to say "we, as catholic, we can tell you that ect, the catholic message, the catholic representation, the catholic topic, the catholic values...". I suppose it's the point of the channel, but you summon up the show to it, and it's a mistake. Ultimately, this show is not that much about catholicism, that's why, I think, you miss most of the important topics. It's about a child with no parents who have to become the father of everyone. It's the story of a man who have to grow, and of someone who have a vision, who is too sure of himself in front of the world, and eaten away by doubts when he is alone with himself. For me, that's the most important. Oh, and, thinking about it. The part "most of the show was useless", I strongly desagree too. Sorrentino is a maximalist and most of his narration is made by the image, and the contemplation. So, it's not because nothing happen in the drama than nothing happen at all. But this show is a character study, and those scenes help us understand the interiority of the character. So, really not useless. Even more, it's the most important part of the show. I watched it again and again, and eventually, I found a meaning and a worth at every scene. They do serve the bigger picture...

I liked the way this show created empathy for the characters, i.e., the clergy, the choices they make, the burdens they labor under. They're human after all, and we see that most clearly. At first, I wasn't going to watch at all, thinking that Catholics would be mocked. Sorrentino did not cave to such easy impulses. Also in reviewing audience comments to each episode, few, if any, were disparaging of the Church. They just loved the show.

The movie has more ties to Catholicism than the show does. The show has a supernatural hodge-podge that is more in line with the comic book series.

I think they all actually liked it secretly, but they (mainly the other two dudes) kept it negative because they didn't want to admit how wrong they were at the beginning. And at the beginning, they were just out to victimize Catholics with this show. I also think that the guy on the left really did like it, but when he said that some things grrr didn't like, it was to not totally isolate himself from the other two dudes.

Yeah, I reckon the movie was weird. I do think they could've been a bit more clearer with the message they were bringing across. But other than that, it was ok I suppose in terms of cinematography and all the other technical elements.

I'll end up watching the show, I guess. But if you're interested in a Catholic take on popes, then you should watch Netflix's "Call Me Francis." It was beautiful and moving!
@joaquinmejia4717
@joaquinmejia4717 6 лет назад
I second this. "Call Me Francis'' was great. It showed Jorge Mario Bergolio's life before he became Pope and it was not afraid to portray the social and political realities in Pope Francis's homeland, Argentina.

New Catholic Generation, I have a question. How do you acquire the rights to show film from these TV shows and movies and your videos? I'd like to do similar things, but I thought it was illegal to show someone else's film without paying for the rights.
