Chase is doing really well with the lounges. The Boston one is quite nice and the food selection surprisingly good. There was a long waitlist to get in when I was traveling during the Winter/Christmas holidays. As a Reserve card holder, I did get expedited, so only had to wait 15 minutes. Now they have HK, Boston, NYC Laguardia, and NYC JFK. And on their road map are Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San Diego. They seem to be moving quite quickly.

🎲 Chase made the right decision to limit lounge access to only Sapphire Reserve cardholders and it looks like a swank lounge. However, Marriott is so tight with status level that they're squeaking. I have MGM platinum, but Marriott only matches over to Bonvoy gold which I already get through Amex platinum. If they only knew how much spend/gambling is needed to go from the bottom to platinum. Multipliers make it easier to keep status once there, but rising from the bottom is quite difficult.

🎲 the MGM x Marriott is such a joke compared to the previous MGM x Hyatt partnership, it’s not even worth chasing after benefits unless you are ambassador elite or Noir. At least when it was MGM x Hyatt you got good benefits (mLife Gold for explorist which was feasible at 30 nights)

🎲 I was just at the Sapphire Lounge at LGA earlier today! It’s beautiful, there’s a QR code system at nearly every bottom floor table where you can order food, beverages, and alcohol delivered directly to your table. Espresso machines are the nice Eversys ones, Olipop and other Coke product canned soft drinks. Can confirm the Sapphire burger is delicious 👌🏼They also let me in even though my flight was 3+ hours from time of entry, and they swipe your priority pass that’s linked to the CSR, no need to flash the CSR itself. Beware the bathroom toilets have weak flush though…

🎲 I dont fly through LGA, but the Chase lounge in Austin TX is super super tiny. LGA lounge looks awesome. I still use CSR as my primary card because of comps of 3x points, Lyft Pink & $300 travel credit. I go to Vegas 4-5 times per year, and not shocked Marriott status wont match with MGM. MGM is getting a bit too crusty with their rewards. In 2024, you earn lesser points for gambling/spending at MGM properties, ranking up to MGM Rewards gold has now a 75,000 tier credits limit, and with making resort fees now $45-50 at most properties, MGM shows they care more about their stock price quarterly revenue than actual customer service. Half of their Vegas hotels are kinda run down now. Its a casino, I get it, it is designed to make money off entertainment. However, I was sad to see Hyatt/MGM partnership end. I would earn points at Hyatt properties for MGM stays which was a huge perk. I was debating getting a Marriott CC just to get enhanced status for them and MGM, but since status match is a no go, there's no point to get one.

🎲 I’ve been to a number of Centurion lounges and the Sapphire lounge in Boston blows them all away. The food is way better and in addition to the buffet they also have made to order options. The Centurion lounges feel like a cafeteria where they herd you in and are way overcrowded. I have actually decided to downgrade to a Gold card because the multipliers are better for my spend and for me the Sapphire is a better value for my travel card.

The best way to get a late check-out in Vegas is to book directly for one additional day and then check out a day early by 6 pm. That way, housekeeping will not bother you and you will not get charged for the additional day.

Don’t forget you can also bring unlimited guests to a sapphire lounge with the Ritz Carlton. I brought in 5 guests once when our flights got delayed for hours out of Boston. Also have 8 people as AU on my Ritz card who also have their own, unlimited members priority pass membership with no additional fee

I look forward to seeing Field Sebby in more of your videos! # to answer your questions 1) The lounge doesn’t interest me since I don’t foresee myself passing thru that airport in the short to midterm future. 2) Chase’s attempt to become a bigger player in the credit card issuer lounge space will not likely result in them becoming the top of the competition, but time will tell how high they climb. 3) I’m not very interested in the MGM x Bonvoy partnership since I’m not a gambler, nor do I travel to destinations with lots of MGM properties such as Vegas, and I don’t typically interact with the Bonvoy program.

The renovated LGA is so beautiful, it’s my top choice over JFK because LGA has a lot of Delta traffic, which is who I fly with all the time. LGA is so beautiful, so excited for the Sapphire lounge too, albeit still smaller than JFK but i love it a lot

Looks like my future Vegas stays will be mostly Caesars. Since MGM nerfed their rewards system and now the Marriott change, I can no longer reach Gold organically like I used to. Oh well, we adapt and move on.

On the Alaska card, idk if it’s an official downgrade path, but I had the card for 4 years and didn’t use it or get value from it so I finally called to cancel in November. They told me I was eligible to product change to their no annual fee travel card and gave me $150 after spending $1500 for not cancelling the account. I’m not going to use their travel card but it lets me keep the account open and not lose the credit limit.

When does MGM/Marriott start? While terrible, I’m currently Ambassador and already have 3 trips booked to Vegas. Hate, hate resort fees. Also, any word on if it would make sense to use Marriott points or certificates for MGM stays? I’m guessing not, but have seen decent point value redemption at JW and Weston.

I'm Bonvoy Platinum and so I already usually get free lounge access and free breakfast (sometimes in the lounge). This new "benefit" of $15 per night at the MGM hotels being added to Bonvoy program is clearly inferior to what I would usually get at a hotel participating in the Bonvoy program. $15 wouldn't come close to covering breakfast in any of these hotels. Hey Sebby, I loved your new local correspondent! Hire that guy!

I applied for and was approved for the Alaska Card. I haven't had it in close to twenty years. I wasn't able to get 70K, but rather got 60K + Instant Companion Fare upon completion of the $3000, which I think is pretty decent. I have a use case (Hawai'i, possible improved benefits if Alaska is allowed to merge with Hawaiian), so I think this was a good get, given my mother can use it, and that has to be worth at least 10K points. The MGM/Marriott partnership is dumb. 🎲

🎲 1. Looking good so far for the Reserve Lounges! I can’t wait for them to expand out in the next few years or so! This is definitely something they took too long to do but finally I guess. 2. It seems like they can but it’s gonna take some time (unless they are super aggressive in opening the next set of lounges. We need more in the west coast 3. Bad changes. They now have 4 lounges (Hong Kong, Boston, NYC Laguardia and NYC JFK). Their website lists Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and San Diego as "Coming Soon." The JFK lounge was a surprise, and it was not listed on their website as one to expect. Seemed to come out of the blue. Maybe they were still negotiating to take over Etihad's lounge and couldn't make it public until the deal was sealed.

🎲 I think the matching scheme makes sense TBH even though I myself lose out on it as a Marriott member. Imagine the number of plats getting resort fee waived, mgm would lose out on a major profit driver. Chase lounges look nice and give Amex some competition which is always good.

🎲 Sapphire lounge at LGA looks really nice! I think Chase would do well if it added a perk to JP Morgan Reserve: FREE entrance (capped or unlimited visits) to the premium suite within the lounge. This would put pressure on Amex to do something more for Amex Centurion cardholders than what they currently do. If you have an Amex Centurion or JP Morgan Reserve, the banks need to ensure you get premium value from those cards.

For Chase to take the #1 spot, they are going to need more lounges and/or more amenities attached to the CSR. Amex Platinum still gives the traveler more. In the lounge game alone you get Centurion, Delta *, and Priority Pass. The trade off would be if you tend to only fly through airports that have the Chase lounges and Priority lounges. Curious to see the response from Amex to the other players. Will they choose to become more elite, raising prices, adding benefits, etc, or continue to lay low as the big dog.

I have been so wishy washy on my Amex Platinum vs the Sapphire Reserve. I’m about to downgrade my current CSP to get the CSP bonus again, but may upgrade to CSR and downgrade my Amex depending. If Amex would add LifeTime Fitness benefits instead of or along with Equinox I might be swayed to stay because I love using FHR and the Sak and Airline perks, and the Centurion Lounge. But Chase is bringing a lounge to PHL which means I could have my pick of that new one and Centurion! Decisions decisions!!🎲🎲

🎲 The MGM x Marriott Bonvoy partnership sure is underwhelming (and borderline disappointing) especially since I accumulated Vegas loyalty points through MGM’s mobile games to earn comps for when I decide to travel to Sin City. @@AskSebby Seriously. No Chase, Capital One, or Amex lounges at O'Hare, and the only Priority Pass lounge is in Terminal 5 (International flights & Delta/Southwest). The Priority Pass lounge is dingy, and often closed to cardholders. In addition, there are no Priority Pass restaurants at O'Hare either. At least Chicago Midway Airport is finally getting a lounge in Fall 2024, and Priority Pass will be accepted!
