Lovely car. Looks fantastic compared to all the boring boxes we have today, plus it's wonderfully refreshing to see a manufacturer strive towards comfort and creating a nice space to be in, rather than low profile tyres and ridiculously firm suspension because people seem to have an inability to deal with body roll these days.
I think Citroen was, is and will be the best car company, because it does not try to make fast and sporty cars, but extremely comfortable and safe. However, if you want to run and accelerate quickly, it provides you with that feature as well. Anyway, the speed limit is 130 km/h
Super review! So nice to see Citroen continuing to innovate without feeling the pressure to conform....It will be great to waft along in something so different from today's world of identikit SUVs.
I really wish Rory inherited Top Gear. He is the best car presentor since the top gear trio. My new dream top gear members would be Rory (inheriting the role of Richard Hammond), The guy from Carfection (He'd inherit the role of James May), For the Jeremy character, I'm not sure(Le blanc was good, but maybe someone British ... Any suggestions?
@@johnbowie4869 in general, Citroen cars are as reliable as any other mainstream european car... but you're right about early versions of Prince engine... BMW didn't do it's most excellent work developing it. but later versions of EP6 (like the one in this C5X hybrid) are not that problematic
My dad has a C5 from 2007 with 150.000 miles. Still love the car but is getting less economical to drive ( in town), and some maintenance issues recently. He is looking for a upgrade, so we test drove a C5X. I have to say so much better on some aspects like, build quality, noise, vibrations, seats & tech. The C5X is way better in corners compared to the old ones. On the motorway I feel like the old Hydro pneumatic suspension is more comfortable than the new one. Also the plugg in model has a really tiny boot for the size of the car. I am not to convinced about the 1.6liter motor. When you floor it it makes a lot of noise, gearbox doesn't feel a smooth as it could be. The C5X with Electric motor & 80kwH / 175kw charge speed would be the dream edition of this car.
The hybrid has a few downsides (really slow charging, low range, less space, higher maintenance & insurance, losing worth quite fast too) and a bit softer suspension than the fuel engine. What I did not like driving the hybrid was mostly the gap you get when you hit the pedals a bit more rough and you feel when the real engine kicks in. As long as you are more relaxed, you barely notice when the 2nd motor joins the party. Noise level is really low if you get the upgraded glass though, havent tested the normal glass to be honest. As for the normal engines, both combustion engines are good on their own and for the way the car is designed. It's like complaining in a Ferrari that a Rolls Royce is more comfortable and complain on the Rolls that the Ferrari is faster in acceleration.
Been driving the new C4 for a year now, super happy with it. Will definitely look to get this next when I need something with more space. Hopefully they'll do the full electric in a year or so
I used to have c5 few years ago, but switched to CRV because i travel a lot in the mountains even in winters. I was eyeing this car before it was even released. But unfortunately they didn't offer 4x4. If they offer the plug-in as 4x4 i would switch in a heart beat. i miss my c5 comfort. when i was a kid my father had cotroen CX. It would be amazing if i have the c5x :)
Great review Rory! honest, intuitive and above all brilliantly presented unlike others that seem to take fun of any French car ... It is certainly unique abd yes, a breath of fresh air like only Citroën DNI can produce :)
*for comparison sake in terms of comfort.* What would you compare it to. 1) the latest Ford S max ? 2) Merc E class? 3) a 2017 Range rover? 5) or a Mercedes S class?
Had a BX back in the day . Most comfortable car ever and the most expensive to maintain . Hydrogas was brilliant so to see a citroen with the same ride quality without the maintenance costs is a great start if people can get past the badge
The badge is a subjective assessment. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Even Mercedes missed a beat with the 2001 E-class. Buyers trusted the badge but were literally taken for an expensive ride on quality.
Very informative and charming review thank you very much. Question for you do you have information on how to buy this vehicle in Britain. I am a Canadian considering moving to Spain do you have any advice on purchasing in Spain?
Hey Rory, how is the acoustic sound insulation on the car? It would be nice if you could address the same in detail for this car and perhaps all future reviews. Love the videos, keep it up!
Thanks guys... How about sound insulation from the wheel wells? That's also a big factor for noise. I believe most cars need better insulation in that regard.
I think the RR/Bentleys with hydropneumatic suspension only had it on the rear wheels, and unlike with Citroens the steering and brakes weren't part of that system.
I miss my old Citroen. It was so quiet and comfortable, no other car from the same price class could compare. Too bad the I needed new brakes each 30k km. I've changed the brakes on my Mazda 3 after 120k km.
@@klausschelling8159 why would I lie? I also had to refill the AC gas each spring, fix faulty exterior mirror and window crane. Besides that it was amazingly comfortable and quiet and I loved it for that.
I test drove the hybrid. very quiet and comfortable. The only slight weakness for me was the interior design and quality. Decent, but a touch below the Peugeot and DS stablemates. This allows them to price the base model reasonably.
"Hearing that engine kick in disturbs the peace, and I don't know if the performance that it gives me warrants that disturbance!" Hands down the most hilarious thing I've ever heard in a car review. Masterpiece! 🤣
I'm a Citroen fan, I'm into cars and I've always had a Citroen. Regarding the newly presented C5, I would like to mention that it is inferior to the previous model in the following items : Suspentions , CrashTest/E-NCAP and Design. Sorry but Citroen in the past has created many legends. Today under the boot of Peugeot, it no longer produces legends.
The Citroen C5X are a great family car because it's spacious and it has speed if you feel like driving with out the family ,,the interior and exterior is on point for me
Nice work Rory, always loved the ride of a Citroen and this appears to be a perfect evolution of the brand. By the by, your reference at 1:43 about the mercedes 'chicken' ad had me searching the "tube of you" and found that particular ad and a subsequent response from Jaguar. And all I can say is bro, Jag "killed" it, absolutely 'killed' it
Absolutely agree about the Xantia. Style, Comfort and Substance. We took our Xantia 1.9 Turbo Diesel way outback in Australia to the Flinders Ranges and up the Oodnadatta Track past Lake Eyre. Maybe the only two wheel drive on the 400 KMs of dirt of The Track. Fabulous ride, stability, space, dust sealing, airconditioning and economy. 5.4 litres per 100 KMs in a 1997 car.
Stellantis in the US has almost nothing left that isn't a truck or Jeep. They introduced a compact Dodge branded SUV that is almost identical to an Alfa and has not tested very well. Meanwhile there are beautiful Citroens and Peugeots they could similarly easily turn into Chryslers but haven't. Either versions would fit the old Chrysler brand image of tech, luxury, and style.
I liked the car, pity they did not ship in the top model into Australia. Looked well put together considering where it's made. Can't understand why they forgot to put in a rear armrest. Probably okay in the city, I live in rural Australia and felt the small engine not powerful enough for overtaking road trains on our crappy roads.
Hi. I would like to know how many kilometers can be traveled with a fully charged battery and a full tank of gasoline in hybrid mode. how many kilometers in total. Thank you
Hi, I drive one of them. It homestly depends on your driving style. If you use e mode about 15 to 20 kilometers are realistic. If you drive hybrid u can make up to 500 kilometers in it. But if you push the car a lot that can go down to about 250 kilometers. But only if u accelerate hard a lot. It has a 40 liter tank in the hybrid version i think which is not a lot. But honestly the car is a lot of fun to drive and with recooperation you can get about 30 to 50% of your drive fully electric even with an empty battery.
What a superb review Rory ! Kudo's for that. What a superb car the C5X is, Imho it is a very sleek and elegant looking shooting brake. Forget about the marketing blah and just enjoy it's sleek lines. Comfort wise it is a winner. It is a pity that there is no EV version so that I am stuck with the ë-C4 wich is no crime. Citroën is back on track.
Citroen 2CV was good The Citroën 2CV is an air-cooled front-engine, front-wheel-drive, economy family car, introduced at the 1948 and manufactured by Citroën for model years 1948-1990.
I am actually detecting a hint of the ghost of the DS in profile....any chance of offering one for sale at my local Stellantis dealer? That would be Van Horn Chrysler/Dodge in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. I don't think they've heard about the merger yet...
The whole world is going into a massive recession. Its already started but it'll grip the country next year. Buying new cars is the wrong move right. Especially when people won't be able to afford their mortgage
Another great review and very cool vehicle. Citroen could easily up the engine and offer a GT model. Looks great. Also wanted to give a shout out to the production team for the soundtrack (film production is always top notch). This soundtrack matches the very chill and modern vibe of the vehicle. Hats off./
The very definition of GT is comfort over long distances with the ability to carve a mountain road if desired. Not sure why suggesting a GT model would be seen as a negative. Why does BMW have a 5 series and also an M5? or Audi the S and the RS? After all the sporty versions were based on luxury comfort based vehicles, no?
Rory hi you know what you just are seriously a Citroën suspension fan lol and I don't blame you they have really had some really impressive stuff over the years
What isn't covered here is that they're good value. The entry spec car (still well equipped) is easily found for around 25,000. It's much cheaper to buy than most cars this size. Depreciation may be steep, but then again that seems less of a thing these days and it's cheaper to start with so may do better than big french cars traditionally have. Across the range, The hybrid is 8-9 grand more and you'll never make that back in BIK and fuel savings on any realistic scenario. But it's a nice drive and the savings do at least narrow the gap.
Great car indeed even on entry level, I hope they built it as a pure electric later on and offer 4x4. And a bit sad I did not get the better suspension on the big puretech model which was only built for 4 months before discontinuing the big engine for CO2 reasons.
@@therenikus9048 looks like (in the UK, at least) they've dropped the Sense range. It's now only 2 engines and 2 trims. 1.2 and hybrid and sense plus and shine. This kinda thing usually means it's not shifting in enough volume. And I don't think I've ever seen one on the road.
Its restrained, very grown up, very compelling. All the car one would need in a place like the UK, it has an achilles heel though, Lexus RX. I wonder how the two would compare on comfort..
Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." So, "NEW Citroen C5X Review: The Most COMFORTABLE Family Car?" No.
