New concerns about 'Accutane' acne drug 

Accutane is a severe drug, but it was a miracle drug for me. The side effects were totally worth the efficacy.

Week 2 Purge, week 4 no more pimples at all. Dry skin yes, but just lotion in morning and before bed and your fine. Oh and don’t go into the blazing sun. Good luck to all it really works!

Accutane helped my depression, cleared my skin and all while only having the side effects of dry lips and the very occasional headache which might not even be from accutane.

My dermatologist prescribed me Isotretinoin 60mg daily in Sep. 2013-Mar. 2014. I experienced a pretty bad purging phase for about a month after starting the drug then my skin cleared up and has been clear this entire time.

I took it when I was 14. 11 years later and I rarely have Acne. I just take care, wash it daily etc but this drug helped me a lot. my nickname was "Depre" from depressed, I was always down and shy, after the acne was gone and treatment done, my self-esteem, confidence went to the sky, I got better at sports and socialization and much more. Acne can be a massive issue for a teenager.

I took accutane for 4 months, (I was originally supposed to be on it for 6 months but the doctor had to take me off of it because I was in a really dark place). Mind you I never had ANY suicidal thoughts or depression before I started taking this drug. I had a lot of side effects like depression, dry lips/nose, irritability/anger etc. But I also had extreme suicidal thoughts. Not only that but I also had thoughts about killing other people. Once I got off the medication, most of the side effects went away but the depression and anger still lingered. My skin IS clear but if I had a time machine I would go back in time and never let my self start this medication, it’s not worth it.

I’m starting it next month kinda scared for the side affects but I’d rather have no acne I have it on my face chest and back and the worst part is that I’m 12 yet the dermatologist says I still need to be tested for pregnancy like what am I gonna do steal my parents car to go over to a dudes house, uhh no.

Damn Canada! In the US we have a government system called iPledge which is comprised of the physician, the patient, and the pharmacy, where strict monitoring of blood work and lengthy questionaires on the "dangers of pregnancy" must take place before the prescription can be attained. Not to mention as a female you're required to be on two separate forms of birth control.

Accutane is a double edged sword. It really does clearly you up. But can cause severe long term side effects. I went on 2 courses. First one was sucessful. Second course a year later I had severe constipation and sharp pains in my liver. So I stopped immediately. I think if I continued I would of had long term damage.

accutane disrupts and destroys the limphatic system....i did 6months at 40mg(millgrams), then the doctor doubled it to 80mg for another 1.5yrs...i couldn't take it anymore..my skin felt like it was on fire...decades later i have problems from the side effects..don't do it.

I did a low dose accutane for 14 months and i've never been the same. 6 days after i stopped taking it I started to have the post-side effects. They include crippling depression, very dry skin, low libido, erectile dysfunction, unable to eat a lot of foods, hair loss. Yeah acne can be bad but I would trade it 1000% for this. It has been now 7 months after I stopped taking this drug and I still have the same symptoms. Isotretinoin (accutane/roaccutane) was originally made as a chemotheraphy drug thus its highly toxic and would never recommend this to anyone. Pro tip: acne is your body's way of telling you have inflammation. Try a keto diet or if you want to go all the way try the carnivore diet. At the very least eat natural foods and stay away from processed and gluten/grains, sugar and dairy. Just my two cents.

PLEASE don't take accutane!!!!( I took only 20 mg but even low dose was bad) I am very grateful I became aware early of the side effects in my second round of accutane which was 1 year after the first round. In the first round I took accutane for 5 months on low dose for mild/ moderate acne. It drys your body organs and has caused me mild Fatty Liver Disease(which I caught on early), irregular periods, a fibroadenoma which I have mistaken for malignancy and caused huge pain and anxiety for months. Alternative: Get an estrogen test and your doctor will prescribe supplements to balance your hormone levels, which in turn will clear up your face even better than accutane. I WISH I had known all of this earlier😭

My skin is perfect and I never get acne, but it is not worth the side effects. I took the drug at 16, and ever since I was 17 my testosterone dropped from 950 too 350. I have ED, no drive in life, and my bones are smaller. I am 19 now.

Took this and it cleared my face but I got a form of PTSD from insomnia I attributed to the pill.

I was prescribed Accutane 3X from '85-'95. Max protocol. 40mg for 20 weeks. Now 64, I have chronic degenerative joint disease, Osteoarthritis of hip and can barely walk stand or sit for more than a few minutes.
