Bit of a mare on this one to be honest...
Those tricky jobs in a kitchen cupboard close to a gas meter is one every spark will be familiar with. This is no different!
A chance for Nathan to shine with some help from his friends.
See what we come up with and have a chat through the requirements to separate gas/electric.
Professional Electrician seem to suggest different to voltimum and registered gas engineer... BS6891

Great video as always Mark. I have the same scenario where everything is in one cupboard in the kitchen. Found this video as part of my research. Not sure I can achieve the 150mm but will give it a go 🙏

Hi Mark The real world versus the regs , an argument I’ve been witness to on many occasions . At the end of the day common sense is the best way forward , especially considering what the original installation was like and how much safety it is now . Any NIC inspector worth his salt , would I’m sure agree . As for those old MEM fuse holders , many would have asbestos cloth on them . Yet another problem that the younger lads may in time come across. Happy days 😂 Best wishes and kind regards to you and your staff 👍👍👍

As someone that's qualified in both gas and electrics, 150mm pertains to meters in conjunction with, consumer units/switches/sockets and any other accessory. 25mm pertains to pipe and cables/accessories. There is also guidance stating a non-conductive non-combustible material can be used if the distance is closer than 150mm between a consumer unit and gas meter. Something like cement backer board that you'd use for Solar Installations for instance.

That's my take on it as well. But linked some other views in the description

@@electrician247 Yes I've read them before, completely disagree with professional electrician whom obviously decided to either not read the gas literature or not confer with GasSafe before making the article.

@Effer Vescence it did seem at odds with what I read. CPD accredited you know is the magazine...

Would be really easy to move that meter to the next cupboard, the only bit that would be anywhere near would be the anaconda pipe on top of the service, I would have done that before the board change to give me better access

Gas fitter is on it. Wasn't that hard tbh and we had other issues to resolve that meant the board change couldn't wait. We don't touch gas but apparently it has lead pipe off the meter so fun times all round 🤭

Is the labelling of circuits the final version ? I noticed you have 2 circuits both labelled "Sockets" ?
@electrician247
@electrician247 Год назад
Yes final labels. House is wired with a very mixed bag after conversion of old storage heater points into a ring in the past. Description beyond that both not required and very difficult.

That is pretty old kit! Whilst there are issues with it according to modern standards, it may well have been a perfectly acceptable install at the time, not sure when the regulations requiring separation from gas and same entry hole for tails first came along.

Yeah nothing horrendous about the work. Just due to changes over time. That CU on the right was tiny in terms of wiring room. We are very lucky today

I was an NIC EIC inspector, the workmanship was perfect but was the gas pipes earthed ?

Not before we arrived 🤭 but yes when we left

What came first? the gas or the electricity?

Both together I would imagine on the first construction in approx 1970

What is the required measurement from a gas metre to a fuse board? 150mm or 1metre?
@electrician247

It's at the end of the video mate. Few varied interpretations from 150mm to 25mm. I think 150mm makes most sense to me.
