Another real good video especially the area you talked about the surface mounted meter box being damaged (At Risk under IGEM/G11) and earth bonding. Thanks Derek. Trainee at tomkat gas training center..
Hi Derek, I completely agree with your comment that gas meters shouldn't be installed under kitchen sinks. However, I raised this issue with Gas Safe following an incident, and they confirmed that no regulations explicitly prohibit the installation of gas meters in that location. They stated that a gas meter should not be placed under a kitchen sink only if the environment is proven to be damp and mouldy. I can email Gas Safe's response to you if you'd like, but I fully agree with your perspective.
Corrosive atmosphere? Recently had a meter installed in the cellar of an old terraced property, a common enough type of installation you come across all the time. I was there to do a landlords inspection, I found a gas leak coming from the gas meter case where condensate water had eaton through it. This cellar was dripping with condensation all the time according to the tenant, contacted the gas supplier who just came out and replaced the meter in the same location.
Very clear and informative! So let's say an energy company, such as British gas, wanted to install a smart gas meter in a residence and asked you to provide an update for the service pipe energy value, SPEV, for the residence beforehand: (a) Would you go through this same procedure using the diversity chart? (b) What sort of documentation/form would an energy company expect from you as a gas safe engineer?
Hi derek, hopefully you have time to help clear this up for me, Been to a flat to do a landlord check, found the newish boiler to be enclosed in an accessible stud tiled void built onto the external wall this enclosure also has an old gas meter inside, both the boiler and meter is accessible via the bathroom on the same wall as the bath/shower.. would the gas meter be in a NCS situation? And also would this installation be classed as within zone1 of the bath/shower. Im thinking because its enclosed perhaps its now not within any zone in that bathroom? Any help would be great as not come across this scenario before thanks and love the videos
My name is Dian Pelangi from Jakarta in Indonesia, I am a fashion designer and I want to use this media to tell everyone to be careful about getting loans on the internet, so many lenders here are fraudsters and they are here. tricking you with your hard-earned money, I applied for a loan for around Rp900,000,000 women in Malaysia and I lost around 29 million without taking a loan, I paid almost 29 million still I didn't get a loan and my business was about crashing because of debt. When I searched for a reliable private loan company, I saw another online advertisement and the name of the company was THE WORLD LOAN COMPANY. I lost 15 million with them and to this day, I have never received the loan I proposed. Dear God, my friends who applied for loans also received the loans, introducing me to a trustworthy company where Mrs. Christabel worked as a branch manager, and I applied for a loan of Rp900,000,000 and they asked for my credentials, and after that they finished verifying my details, the loan was approved for me and I thought it was just a joke, and maybe this was one of the cheats that made I lost money, but I was stunned. When I get my loan in less than 6 hours with a low interest rate of 2% without collateral I am very happy that God used my friend who contacted them and introduced me to them and because I survived making my business soar high in the air and liquidated and now my business is flying high in Indonesia and no one will say it. know about fashion companies. So I suggest all people who live in Indonesia and other countries who need loans for one purpose or another to contact christabel mother via email: christabelloancompany@gmail.com You can also contact me at my email: (lianmeylady@gmail.com) and Sety introduces and talks about christabel, she also gets a new loan from christabel, you can also contact her via her email: permatabudiwati@gmail.com Now, all who will I do is try to fulfill loan payments that I send directly to their account every month. A word for wise men is enough Thank you once again for reading my testimony, and may the Lord continue to bless us and give us a long life and a prosperous life and may God do the same good work in your life. Thank you for this excellent video on gas meters if you found a gas meter already installed under a kitchen sink what procedure would you carry out please
Hello, I'm doing the interior architecture designs and basically asking for help. I'm listening to your video. So an electrical consumer unit can be as close as 150mm? If the meter is in a wall cabinet with a removable back. Would this cause issues with obstruction and delaying access to the emergency shut off valve? Thanks Aaron
So much info on meters covered brilliantly in such a short period of time. Is lead lock only for domestic incoming water supply then? Great video Derek 👍🏻 Asian Jon. Training.
Super Video Derek. Question . Regards the meter ECV what's AR in none emergency situation ? then ID in emergency situation Thanks for the graft doing these videos tons of useful info on this one.
seems to be some debate about which side of the spigot gets sealed up with flue jointing compound. some say to seal the meter cupboard side, some say to seal the property side, and others say both. what's your take on it?
The meter is owned by the gas suppliers and the meter box is the responsibility of the house owner so if the ECV, anaconda, regulator or meter needs replaced then the supplier picks up the bill but the box is the house owner’s problem
@@tomkatgastraining Kinda, You're correct in that the supplier is responsible for the gas meter, but it is owned by a Meter Asset Manager (National Grid Metering, SGN Metering and SMS are 3 examples) - otherwise you'd be looking at a meter change with every supplier change - which isn't feasible. The regulator and anaconda (they are a single assembly) are usually owned by the MAM as well. The service pipe and ECV are owned by the Gas Distribution Network (either Cadent, SGN, Wales & West Utilities, Northern Gas Networks or one of the plethora of IGTs) and the meter box is owned by the house owner.
I work for a smart metering company, the door and lock are the responsibility of the homeowner/landlord the easy bit. It gets tricky when the bracket is damaged, my company policy is we change the bracket, which I think is wrong however the regs state no operative shall drill a meter box other than the approved entry points. Because if it’s a inset meter box the gas supplier would need to remove the main service pipe to fit a new rear box. So should it be the supplier who repairs the box and not the meter operative??
I work for a utility company that is planning to replace the gas supply to a block of flats, the plan is to abandon the old internal riser and replace it with an external steel riser which will branch off into each flat. The planned location for the new ECVs is in the kitchen cupboards under the sink which would obviously mean that the meter would also have to be relocated into the same cupboard. Am I understanding you correctly that this is not allowed?
If you read the British standards it tells you the locations not to use and they class under the sink as I place not to use because of cleaning chemicals. In this situation it would be better to install the meters at ground level in meter boxes and put AECV into the flat. I have never come across a supply who would put the meter in that location but there’s always a first time
@@tomkatgastraining Used to fit gas meters for MacAlpines/British gas and Enterprise/National grid and one of the most common internal siting up in West Yorkshire is in the cupboard under the sink lol
Hi the g10 bkt, is that acceptable?, I’m currently on a new install with the same shelf type bkt, but the meter can still move on that?, transporter hasn’t attached it to the box and bg fitted the meter and they won’t attach it in place either as they won’t perforate the box🙄, the usual nonsense going on, any info appreciated cheers
Hi! I have a gas meter in my room in a cupboard and it kinda smells, is it detrimental to your health to smell gas? What are the risks? It's not a big leak since I had naked flames around that spot and nothing happened, but I can still smell it pretty bad in the cupboard and around it. Thank you
@@egzonmorina4162 yeah, I moved out of there recently, thanks! :)) I had someone come and take a look and they said it actually was a leak, but not enough to blow up, he tightened something up and the smell stopped.
Hi Derek Something not mentioned is shear bolts and washers. It’s my understanding you have to disconnect and remove a meter in order to solder new pipework in for example to a new appliance. Do these get in the way how are they removed? Do they need to be replaced afterwards? Thanks!
I think if you watch the video again I mentioned shear bolts and why they are needed. When removing the meter which I didn’t go through for obvious reasons the regulator and meter union don’t need to be removed. Thanks for watching cheers
So you can't have a meter in a food larder? Where I live the whole estate has them in the kitchen later? What is this classed as as its a new 9ne 9n me
Hi, thanks for the vid. Who could tenants direct queries about gas meters to? I’ve used expanding foam to seal the hole where the green/yellow wire goes through the wall and I want to know if it’s now a risk
My mother's gas meter has just been fitted with a new regulator by Cadent gas after the boiler engineer issued a danger do not use certificate as he had recorded low pressure on the system. The gas meter is situated under the kitchen sink and as per your video, this is not to current standards. the gas meter has been there since at least 1980 if not before. Should the gas meter be relocated and at whose cost would this be?
Do the Gas inlet and out let pipes to the meter need rubber rings? I see one by the meter but don't know if they belong to either one of the pipes? Or do they not belong on a meter?
With the rise in gas prices is it possible to fit lpg direct to gas meter instead of from supplier? I want to cap their input and replace with lpg instead... Any advice?
Noooooooooooooo you will need a gas engineer with lpg qualifications to change all the appliances over if they can be and install a new system of gas supply
Thanks Derek, I've My Acs in next 6 weeks. I'm more confident in the practical bit, but more nervous about the theory and paper questions. Apart from reading a books, what's your advice regarding the theory? Thanks
@@tomkatgastraininglol, No doubt about that ha, English being my Third language makes it difficult for me at the theory bit, slow reader. Any advice on that please? 🫣
