NOT QUITE everywhere.... I work in a foundry, and one of the coworker horror stories still floating around from many, many years past was about some lad who wore cowboy boots with his pants tucked in, every single day, until liquid metal spilled down his leg and into his boot. 😱 He didn't lose his foot, but it was never the same. Just got my first cowboy boots, and promised my foundry buddies I'd never wear them anywhere near our shop.
I just got my first pair at 16 and I wear them quite literally everywhere 😂 I probably shouldn’t though because they were expensive and don’t want to ruin them
I came back to this video to thank you. I am a 15 year old boy who lives in Denmark so it ain’t really normal to wear cowboy boots here. I always loved your cowboy culture and wanted to be a part of it but I didn’t want to stick out very much due to my social anxiety. But watching this video helped me a lot. Thank you much🙏
Useful advice. I totally agree about just going for it, wearing them often and enjoying them. I used to think really carefully about when to wear them, who I might meet, what they might think. Now I just wear them all day every day and as you say, "own them" ! You're doing a great job Jeremiah! Thanks.
Dude…keep it real, im accidentally finding myself in the “I need cowboy boot for the first time ever” zone, and this was so damn helpful. Thank you a million times
Right on ! And # 7 don't be afraid to scratch , scuff them because in the long run that's what gives them character ! Soon they be feeling like gloves on your feet !
I don’t wear dress boots/smooth sole boots personally, but whenever I buy a new pair I’m sure to take extra care to beat them up and break them in asap. I like a good scuff or 30.
Just bought my first pair of cowboy boots (pair of Ariat's) off of their store coming from normal shoes, not only do they fit like a glove but I love the comfort they give especially for the arches of my feet being more supported, thank you Jeremiah for the recommendations I'm not sure if I can wear my shoes again haha.
Great video. I wish you had posted this a month ago when I bought myself my first pair for my birthday. Somehow I did manage to ask questions online and did everything except scuff them up. I've been wearing them a few times a week. I love them. I live in Pennsylvania so cowboy boots aren't really popular so I get some looks when I tool around the grocery store in boots and a cowboy hat but I like the whole western style so I don't care.
lol same here but in california 😂 got me a stetson cowboy hat too and only wear on sundays. i get looks but more of like complimentary looks. every now and then i would get a couple of bad looks because i am so out of place but who cares. im not trying to fit in. own it!
@@oldblood_eyes yes own it. The other day I went to the local Wal-Mart in boots jeans, western styles shirt and straw cowboy hat. I owned it and sure looked better than half the people at 8pm already wearing pjs with their underwear hanging out, and sandals with socks on too.
Use Shoe trees in your boots if you don't wear them a lot, or have a bunch of different boots. I also put an empty 2 liter bottle in the shaft of my boots to keep them from folding over.
Definitely use shoe trees, but ESPECIALLY if you wear them often. They'll last a lot longer and the boot will keep its shape. Probably smell less if it's a cedar shoe/boot tree. Also will draw moisture and sweat from the boot which is good for reducing odor and prolonging the life of the leather.
I wear mine pretty much daily spring summer and early fall Not so much in late fall Or early spring usually too wet here in New England leather soles soak up moisture and the wet feet Not fun lol 😝
I completely understand AND agree with the scuffing of new boots but I've got to admit the psychological aspects of scratching something new is a tough is quite the obstacle to overcome. ;-) Season's Greetings!
Today I just got my first pair of cowboy boots (Arita patriots) and I love them! It’s a great fit. Thank you for this video because I’ve been wearing work boots for a while now so this helps a lot!
These boots are made for walking, running, horse back riding and karate kicking. Afternoon nap keep'em on you may have to get up quickly and do something. Pull off at bedtime and put on a different pair the next day. Merry Christmas
Don't be afraid to be a "trend setter." Confidence and an overall sense of self-assuredness, are both contagious, as well as apparently obvious. Whatever I wear, I make it mine. It's my belief that the average person, would be shocked to realize the difference in impressions that are projected outwardly to others, depending on the individual's level of self-confidence. I also believe it to be utterly important, to seek out sizes and styles, that are complimentary to your individual morphology. This requires a bit of research and experimentation, but ultimately can pay dividends in the aforementioned areas individual ego. Great video Jeremiah!!!
Merry Christmas everyone!! Great advice, especially for you new boot owners. If you like cowboy boots just own it and be proud to wear them. Don’t worry about what other people think, wear them because you love the feeling of wearing boots. If you have knee, hip or back pain you maybe surprised to find out that the boots will help you deal with the pain. Many people wear them just because it is the only footwear that helps them with their pain management. Very informative video Jeremiah.
"Hi Jeremiah, personally I don't really care whether people in my area or other areas wear cowboy boots or not, mostly it's the cowboy boot magic in me and make that magic last! I live for myself, not for others because I'm different inside. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a boy crazy, I love my cowboy boots even more when they hurt me the first or second time. leaves me with an unforgettable memory and I adore them! My first pairs at the time, I left to work with during the daily walk! Now I have a beautiful collection but none, I say none, will end up in a closet so much that I love them and I take good care of them! "
I bought some Tony Lama ostrich that were 30 years old. refurbished them and they look brand-spankin-new. $60...and I get complements every time I wear them. I'm a big fan of used boots and refurbish. That said, I'm a military guy...and I'm used to (and enjoy) shining/refurbishing shoes/boots. It's amazing how many people get rid of shoes/boots just because they need some love.
Great advice, I've already been doing these things for a long time now (just came naturally) and I'm sure lt really helps! I'm sure waring boots makes a person feel good, at least I believe doing so does. Happy Holidays everyone!!!
It requires some of the same paperwork by brands as other exotics like ostrich so technically yes but I can see how some people would say that it isn't. As far as the law is concerned for importing and exporting, it is "exotic"
I just wanted to let you know I watched your video and gave you a thumbs up. Plus I wore cowboy boots sence I was in High school. (Hint Richard Nixon was president) Now I have three pair from Tacovas and all three pair are more comfortable then my house shoes. I stared to wear cowboy boots because of my father had a boot and saddle shop where he sold and fixed shoes and boots and saddles. one more thing if your boots are some what tight on your feet do this: Put your boots on then soak wet in water then wear them untill they are dry.
I thought I needed a new pair of boots after taking mine out for the coming rainy winter days and they looked all scuffed up and worn out! But after using them again I like the fact they actually look like they've been used and worn! Gives them character. Also very true about the confidence boost as they make you stand up straight and you get certain looks 😏
You earned a new subscriber! Going to Texas in couple days and first objective there is to get some proper boots. Thanks for the tips, these sure help!
The side seam can do that to some folks. Cobblers may be able to help trim it down a bit or stretch it out to keep it from being snug against your ankles. Some boots have hung linings which cover the seam to keep this from happening. I have a video on linings that might help too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9-dT_VHPGI4.html
Any idea on how to stretch the instep/shaft? I love my Ariat hybrid ranchers but they are super stiff. I need boot pulls to put on my left foot. It's kind of a workout to put them on. I hope I didn't buy them too small?
It would be more uncomfortable if you didn't have any heel slip with cowboy boots and it would lead to blisters. You need heel slip in cowboy boots because there are no laces and the way they stay on your feet is through the fit on your instep so heel slip is necessary.
4:01 This is also a more attractive way to stand and walk. If you are a "short" king (about 5' 6") the >1" heel can make you above average height, coupled with standing up straight, you will be taller then 50% of other men you see.
Tip for ya. Instead of scuffing gup the bottom for grip, buy a jar of tough toe ( is has grit in it) and put it on the bottoms. Once it dries is ain't coming off. Now you have instant grip tape. It works excellent and lasts.
So I just got my 2nd pair of Double H boots the Old Town Folklore Brown leather. They are great boots but but I jumped right into wearing them on vacation instead of breaking them in first. They are snug in all the right places but seem to be breaking in differently from the left boot to the right boot. If that normal? They still have some heel slip is that normal? Also Which conditioner would you recommend? I am thinking the Bick 4 that you showed here. Thanks in advance. Love the channel
Good advice. I haven't owned a pair of shoes in 50 years. 1 daily wear pair, and 2 dress pair that I wear once a week. Once you get a good pair of boots you will never go back to shoes. Tony Llama boots are great. I like my Justin boot too, but they are not quite as well built as the Tony Llamas
Thank you for all the great information. I got my first ever pair of cowboy boots today and I’m in love. I chose the boulet with a hybrid sole, square toe and removable insole.
(Guess I put this on the wrong video, my old comment seems more appropiate for this one) I grew up in a suburban town that was attached to a major city. My childhood was grounded in good country music (thanks Mom) and going out to the country to stay at my grandparents. I wore cowboy hats for portrait pics and walking around out in the country. I loved the style, but I knew in my high school located in suburbia, I'd be made fun of for dressing that way, so I never did. Say what you want, but the high school social climate matters to over 90% of kids and it did to me too. So I settled with dressing for the times. My high school was mainly Abercrombie, Hollister, Ecko and fubu, mixed with a little punk rock (and no, I didn't wear that stuff lol). Now that I'm 37, watching Yellowstone reignited my love for the western fashion and memories I grew up on. Being married and no longer giving a damn about what people think, I've bought a couple cowboy hats and have purchased a couple of square toe boots as well. Super comfortable and man I love wearing this stuff. I feel.... at home. Thanks for being real and I know, I'm late as hell to this video lol. You got a sub outta me friend. Keep up the good work.
Very cool video idea JC ! You touched on it a couple times, but with even McDonalds workers making $20/hour, if an American made product costs as much or less, you’re sacrificing quality obviously. Rose Anvil cut open a pair $1000 USA Luchesse’s, and found they skimped on a couple things. For me I want top quality, and Tecovas are pretty legit on that, but to each their own.
Hi. Thanks for your help und your informations. That's best !!! I have Mayura Boots from Spain: Mayura Boots 005 ...and... Mayura Boots 014 With best Greetings. Yours Ralf Brodersen.
So I just picked up a pair of ARIAT MEN'S HERITAGE ROPER 10" WESTERN BOOTS, in the Distressed color, are you saying I shouldn’t use Bick 4 on them? If so, what should I use? I’m in North Dakota in freezing temps, if that helps.
I can tell you this, I'm a lifelong Justin boot guy. My previous pair I wore for almost five years. Got a new pair last year and it's already busted from the sole of the boot. Never will order them again. I paid right at 200 dollars for them to bust. A pair that looks just like them made by Durango for 77 dollars lasted longer
1st thing, get a quality pair. 2nd thing, doc Bailey's. My leather shop folks advised to NEVER condition them new. Avoid shit like Ariat and get an American made pair of boots.
Just wear your boots. I’m not into country music or western wear. You don’t have to be into the whole cowboy thing to wear them. Plenty of people don’t exercise at all, yet wear jordans or running shoes all the time. The having to fit into a certain mold thing is old thinking.
Thank you!Great advice!I just purchased a pair of Imitation Caiman boots and wondering if I still should you use the exotic conditioner or it ok to use the Bick 4!
I where 10s got a pair of Tony Lamas and I had a buddy got me a decent pair of Ariats they're 9.5. I have pretty wide feet. One of them literally cut circulation off my toes. I had a pair of Alligators back in highschool. Was pretty much the reason why i got rid of them. I like them they are black i just need to stretch them any ideas?
I just got some Ariat roper boots and they feel snug but good once they are on but putting them on hurts. Taking them off is not too bad. I tried a half size larger before and the heel felt too loose but they were better putting on. Should I return them and get a half size larger?
If my first condition was with mink oil, will they eventually fade back to their original color over time with cleaning? Or are they just stuck like that?
This was an awesome video. It made me feel great about buying my first pair of cowboy boots at age 47. I’ve been racking my brain at whether or not my boots fit right. most of the factors of a proper fit are in place there just seems to be a good amount of heel lift.(maybe a bit more than a fingers worth). Would I be correct in assuming that there is a break in period and the heel lift will go away…? I may do insoles but I’d rather not…I think the 1/2 size down would have been too tight…..
I wear mine all the time, and I live in the city... always get compliments when people notice them. Just get a little irritated when someone calls my Lucchese boots Ariats! 😡😡😡😡
I had to spend 550$ on boots. Basically we have a dress code it just says dress must be western in nature. Basically you want to spend some money. 200$ boots will tear up your feet.
Great video, very informative! Got a new pair of Tecovas Earl's being delivered tomorrow in goat leather, is the Bick 4 ok to use on these goat leather boots? Or would they be considered "distressed"? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Okay so please help me out... so I like the style but I wear about a 13 or 14.. the part around my calves are super wide and my legs aren't that big so I look goofy... is there a way to help this? Or am I getting the wrong boots? Please help and sorry if you go over this and I just missed it cause I'm too dumb. Also idk if it matters but I have super wide feet
My dad bought a pair of Tecovas online that didn’t fit. He is one of those people who never sends things back for any reason and decided to make the boots fit by wearing them anyway. I came over to see the boots and watched as he could barely fit them on and struggled to walk in them. 😂 I asked if I could try them on and they fit almost perfectly. I just wish they were one half size bigger in the toe. I ended up getting them for Christmas. 😂
Aside from my work boots I’d wear my Justin’s everywhere until my puppy ate one but just got a new pair of ariats and I plan on wearing them everywhere
Hard for me to wear my Lobban's now I live in the Philippines, I'm 6'3 tall so the extra heel makes everyone else so small I can't hear them unless they shout.
The one thing I don't like about cowboy boots or boots in general is getting kicked in the face which has happened but that's what I get for trying to stop my idiot friend in a fight but I have learned thankfully
Great Intel my friend and yes I’m a huge believer in conditioning, I actually tried a bottle of Neatsfoot oil I picked up at Tractor Supply that seems to work really well. I’m not a denim jeans guy really but loves my old Levi’s but actually wear my Boots with Cargo Pants like the 5.11 and TruSpecs lol maybe once or twice with my BDU trousers and get a few weird looks lol but man once a great pair of Ariats or Acmes get broken in they are like nice house slippers and you want to just wear them. I’m shopping around more now for second hand boots and have found some nice prospects on Mercari I’ve had great luck with. Stay safe my Friend Semper Fidelis
After wearing them in the house on the carpeting so as not to scuff up the bottoms I confirm that they fit albeit very snug. The leather will stretch out where it needs to conform to the shape of your foot. Then, grab my bottle of Feibings 4 Way Leather Care conditioner and brush it on with a synthetic bristle paint brush and old tooth brush for where the sole and the body of the foot join and for any seam that the larger brush will not reach. Let soak in overnight, wipe excess off the next morning, then apply a good coat of shoe cream. Now the leather will really stretch more easily and conform to my foot shape. All the fitting issues at the instep and heal areas will become less and less as you wear the boot.
"Hi, I don't think rubbing the soles of boots on the hard on the asphalt does anything, it damages the boot! A good walk in the countryside in nature and your boots will be done and you will see if the boots are for you or not, from the heel to the toes in terms of manufacturing, interior seams and more!Already there are boots like Justin boots which are not, despite the right sizes, well to measure or they are problems of manufactures such as uppers or boot pullers!! If the boots hurt, the boots are not made for you or it is a real manufacturing problem! Re-ship them and find the pairs for your feet! "
Thanks for the good advice I will definitely use those tips on my first pair of cowboy boots because I’m graduating soon and I’m going to show them off to the world and go out with a real kicker
I used beeswax on my boots, it waterproofed them and it still took conditioner afterwards like a charm. I re do the wax every 6 months and condition when they look like they need some.
I got my first pair at the end of October for my 18th and the lady at boot barn conditioned them for me (Cody James union square toes) and oh my god a few months later and they feel like slippers from the instep forward, I wore these around Disneyland for a whole day and my feet didn’t hurt till the last hour but that’s probably due to the socks I was wearing. My only question is about the bottom of the shaft: the leather seems to have I guess sagged a little bit where the shaft meets the rest of the boot, is this normal to a degree?
Yes that happens as the boot gets older. You can keep them up right more with boot trees like these: www.ariat.com/10002068_751702900944.html but I like the look of the sag on everyday boots personally
@@JeremiahCraig it doesn’t bother me too much anymore now that I’ve had them enough time where I don’t worry about scuffs or sag but I wanted to make sure it was a normal thing. Now I think it gives them character, thanks for the piece of advice
I just bought a pair of nubuck cowboy boots, they fit pefect but what product should I be using on them? I was told not to use mink oil or a leather conditioner because it would darken them but to use a spray on water proofing.
Okay so my new boots fit absolutely perfectly then, snug around the widest part of my foot, heel slip about a fingers width probably a little less, not tight around the toes
Hi Jeremiah how are you I have a pair of brown suede cowboy boots.its my late uncle,s boots right now it's kinda of tight at the toe part how can I break in so that it fits I'm now putting it in the freezer to break in any suggestions thank you Jeremiah.
Thanks dude! I bought my first ever cowboy boots and wasn't sure on a few things, you cleared up all my questions🤠 I made the right choice. Cheers from Down Under
living in ohio i really get the part about others not being popular in the area. But when I do wear them people do complement them. And I realized that I do see other guys wearing square toe boots too
My man said the best boots he ever got came from a boot repair shop, a customer had several pairs repaired and never picked them up and he only paid for the cost of the repairs..?
Wearing the same pair of boots or shoes every single day is detrimental to foot health and can lower the number of wears you get from a boot. Ideally you want at least 3 pairs on rotation.
