i wear my smooth ostrich boots everyday from work to desserts to mountains , in rain, snow, sand, dirt , mud .. ive worn them everyday for going on 3 years and ive been surprised how tough the type of leather is. they look almost brand new. i do condition them a lot more than i probably should but with all the water, dirt and changes to temperature i go through they dry out real fast. for hiking in areas with lots of rocks, i would recommend going to a cobbler and getting a rubber sole vs the leather because you can literally feel like every single rock you step on
Ostrich has the strongest tactile strength , I had a pair of Tony Lama smooth ostrich.. that had been soaking wet many times, through mud, snow, dirt, dragged one concrete, gravel , through brush … and after 6 years got a little tear .. ostrich by far the best skin and extremely comfortable
this actually helped me out alot because I wanted to get atleast 3 to 6 pairs. 1 or 2 for work, 1 or 2 for special occasions, and just 1 or 2 pairs for runnin around doin errands or just goin out on the town havin fun etc etc.
Dude I worked my way through at good ole cav too! I even got my million dollar buckle and assistant managed store #24. That’s awesome. Most people have no idea how awesome boots are. Or what sets them apart from the rest. For me Rios, olathe and Anderson beans can’t be beat. Good quality stuff!
Good knowledge sir I appreciate what I learned just now and might I say I have never been aware of any of that knowledge you just shared wow I'm blown away with so many skin types as well as upper leather types and the way they need cared for was important I thought as well it was a great lesson in boots .....I had no idea these things were of any value and or any good for your feet interesting stuff
I bought my Double H 5400s in Amarillo a couple years ago. Was going to have them re-soled the next summer(last summer) but didn't need to. Planned on doing it this summer but I might be in for another year. These soles are indestructible. Worn every day besides winter and the Bison leather smell has me hooked.
I've a far smaller collection at seven pairs, and it's been my experience that it's far easier to pay for 'tooled', full grain calf skin that 'portrays' a reptile pattern, yet allows for ease of care. Very few ever ask if, "They're really whatever kind of skin." Questions regard how much they cost, how they fit, and if it took a long time to break them in.
When you talked about snake boots, I thought initially you meant snakeskin boots. I was confused why it was important to have those boots when snakes are out in summer. Then, I realized what you meant haha.
Wow, your my hero! The wife thinks I have too many boots wait till I show her your great collection, I should easily be able to buy a couple more pair and I think I seen the ones I want on your table. haha
Sir I love your collection I started my own i have 6 pair and I love them all. I have full quill , python, tan nublok, leathers I have grey, brown and black. Cowboy boots are by far the best footwear.
Had to sell my first stingray after I got them because I realized “these fuggers ain’t ever gonna stretch!” I worked at Western Warehouse in Dallas around 2006 when they were trying to rebrand. They did some great work doing our store on Interstate 75, but it didn’t work unfortunately. Miss working there for the discount. I just bought a pair of plum rough out cutter toes because I miss having something fancy and flashy. Not an every day boot, but something fun for events.
I LOVE your cowboy boots, Lance!! I've LOVED cowboy boots since I was little! I have a broken-in brown pair with a more pointed toe and stitching on the toe. I wear mine with loose jeans, jerseys and even shorts!! I LOVE the stitching on the toe of cowboy boots. I think it makes them stand out more. I LOVE how they make me look taller. I'm 5'10" and I wear size 12. Cowboy boots need their own paid holiday!! :) :) I feel the SAME way you do about cowboy boots! 👍😎😊👊 I want a black pair next, maybe with the metal toe taps on them!! Can't wait!!
I guess i made a good choice when i bought my elephant boots. Bought them in the early 90s, my only pair of cowboy boots. Only other pair i owned, was back in '72, when i was just a wee guy.
Impressive, I learned a lot. Thank you! Do you keep boot trees in all of them? My ostrich boots started getting deep creases so I put boot trees in them, but the boot tree is starting to stretch it out a bit so it doesn’t quite fit like a glove any longer. How to I prevent the creases and the stretch?
Thank you @@Lance_Dale ! Also what are your thoughts on Anderson Beans? I've worn square toes my whole life but am by no means an expert though I've heard good things about them.
Some Great Looking Boots you have there Real Nice!Whats your Oldest pair of Boots & Favourite Boots & Toe type? You need to display them all in a Boot room,How often do you clean & condition all your Boots?
oldest- justin elephants from 1993; favorite=blackjack natural gator; square toe- I will bick 4 treat them before I put them on my foot if it has been longer than 2 wks w/o wearing them
Thanks for the information, as I'm looking to buy my first pair of boots. Just for going out on the town (not work boots)... dinner and dancing with my wife. I don't want to pay a ton of money for something I'll wear only occasionally. I have narrow feet and would want something easy to break in. What would you recommend? And for all you "haters" telling everyone _not_ to get/wear boots if you ain't a real cowboy, I suppose you tell everyone not to wear tennis shoes if you aren't a tennis pro? Grow up... 🙄
Go with mid-range Tecovas and a bit higher range Chisos. Both newcomers from Texas. They have YT vids as well. Have both plus many others. Big brands are now junk.
Best custom boots I ever had came from a Rabi bootmaker in Houston. They were crafted from foreskin. Super comfortable and when you polished them they turned into matched suitcases!😂
The best handmade boots come from Stewart Boots in South Tucson, Arizona. I had mine for over 30 years until my sold them at our moving sale😩 I have been more disappointed. FYI, it is my understanding that Stewart is the oldest domestic boot maker in the USA
Wow- thank you! So I’m buying my new hs graduate son a pair of boots. Brown … good all purpose but probably not work boots … city kid. I know he’s wanting to 2 step in college but are Roper style still ok? 30 years ago styles were a bit different. My hubby wears Redwing and Frye so he’s not much help🙃. He’s got a nice higher instep 11.5 6’3” kiddo. Thx! I’m in DFW for reference❤
Hey, Ropers are great. His foot may like the walking heel better. NRS in Decatur is great, also Teskys in weatherford. Cavenders or boot barn may have what your looking for. Can’t go wrong with online at Texas Boot Company also mam.
@@Lance_Dale thanks for the help. Last question, I notice mostly square toes now as opposed to round/ snip? He’s not rodeoing or working a ranch… but I don’t want to get him the “wrong” style.
You mention that lizard boots are fragile. Most website seem to indicate that lizard boots are hardy and durable. The boots you are showing are Ringtail lizard right?
Correct, Ringtail Lizard- for sure undebatable paper thin and comparable to snake. Awesome looking but to keep them looking good you will need to baby them.
late to this video, but would you recommend square toe for wide feet? i grew up not wearing shoes a lot and my feet are flat and wide... i heard square toe is good but i've seen a few comments saying the opposite! i like the look but i dont want to be uncomfortable since im looking for an everyday pair.
According to YT "Rose Anvil" who has sawed $85K of boots in half to show us all how they're made, pros and cons, Lucchese boots are way overpriced and not worth the money. That belongs to newcomer Texas Chisos boots. ~$600. Of course there are other not well known custom boot makers who charge a lot more, depending on design specs and materials. The toughest cowboy boot out there is Olathe. I have mid-range Tecovas in addition to many other brands in an earlier post. Look up Rose Anvil if you haven't. ☺️
@@jbsimmons54 Yeah I saw that. They are still my favorite. I don;t buy them for work boots. I have 2 pair of Chisos and they are the most uncomfortable things I have ever put on my feet. They are probably tougher but that's also why they are less comfortable. Lucchese are my every day boots. I don't use them for work. My work boots are Redwing or Thorogood.
@@travr6 Red Wing is good stuff. Have had their loggers in past decades. Recently got black Iron Ranger and not exactly broken in yet, comfy, but they come in limited sizes and widths for certain colors, unfortunately.
@@yellowstoneloyal8186 some hold up but many are not built the best. The imports we got in from Mexico was better made than the ones made in the usa and both had made in usa tags. Just like the Carolinas we made where also made in China and sent to our warehouse. The company keeps going cheaper and cheaper with materials and 90% of the staff are drug addicts that are paid on piece rate so the faster they do the job the more they make so quality goes out the window. We use to get so many returns due to all sorts of problems from heal tacks poking through soles to having bumps inside from things like rubber bands being in the cork cement under the sole. Wrong or poor stitching. I'm sure some are great but most are garbage except the ones that where being imported they always seemed better made.
HH brown makes double H, Corcoran, Matterhorn, Carolina, Walkovers, fireman, but a majority of them are made in other places mainly Mexico and China. We would get 500 cases a day of from each and the factory in the usa produced under 200 cases a day.
Wrong heel descriptions. The heel you showed as a riding heel is a walking heel, 1 3/8 is walking and 1 5/8 is a riding. The last one you showed as a walking, is a block heel (Fowler heel). Is 1 1/2 inch heel. Snakeskin and lizard boots are highly durable. That’s why exotics exist.
Truth be told. I only started wearing Cowboy boots due to Maverick in original Topgun. My question is. How do you buy a pair if havnt worn in some years and if your feet have gotten bigger from the gym? Normally a size 11 or 11 1/2. Do i need a wide? Or a even bigger size?
Simple suggestion- go somewhere that sells boots. Or stop at one on a road tip or traveling. You can try on various sizes and brands. Each brand fits a little different. The sales help usually knows their stuff. I went in a real boot shop on a trip to Kansas City and went in NIGRO's Western wear. Dang they know there stuff. But there are many others in the States.
great boots- toughness between bull hide and elephant- just keep them conditioned and do your thing with them, no need to baby or be selective on when and how you wear them.
