New Criminal Law Bills 2023 Explained: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the passage of three criminal justice bills that will replace as many colonial-era acts as a watershed moment in India’s history. The three criminal bills - The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and The Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 1860. Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita replaces the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1973. Bharatiya Sakshya Bill replaced the Indian Evidence Act of 1872. What are key changes in the three new revised criminal bills? Zeba Sekora, Senior Associate, Project 39A explains.

Opposition is mostly suspended. minimum 10 percent quorum is required in either house of parliament for meeting until parliament by law provides otherwise. so there are ruling party MPs in the house. why they even bother to introduce these bills in parliament. just issue an ordinance by presidential order. there are no debates, no public views, no experts, nothing...Ruling party minister will come tell this is the law and you have to follow this otherwise you are anti-national. this is new democracy.

Opposition was a part of parliamentary panel which gave its nod to table these bills in the parliament. 72% of their recommendations were accepted in the bill. Moreover, CMs of all states were consulted as well (as per the statement issued by HM). Governors, Lt. Governors of all states were involved in the process. Chief Justice of India, judges of Supreme Court and HCs , Bar Council of India, Law Universities, All MPs, all IPS officers of India, all District collectors of India were involved PS - Under the new definition of "misinformation" (done deliberately, ofcourse), your statement can be taken against you and charged under the new law as "spreading misinformation". I would exercise caution before making such claims.

@@soumyasharma5318 this is my opinion as a free citizen not a misinformation. So stop threatening. You think who has an opinion other than the government just threaten them or choke them.I can have my opinion on the policies of the government as a citizen of this country and you can think otherwise. there is fundamental rights on free speech that still exists you can read. And all the people you mentioned above are anyway working under the government they can not speak their heart. Unfortunately.,🙈🙉🙊

I'm fed up of this voice vote thing. Isn't it necessary to have a wide consultation before introducing such a critical law?

FYI - 3 years long process in which CMs, Governors, Lt. Governors of all states were involved in the process. Chief Justice of India, judges of Supreme Court and HCs , Bar Council of India, Law Universities, All MPs, all IPS officers of India, all District collectors of India were involved, then finally a parliamentary panel (comprising of opposition parties) was involved, 72% of their recommendations were accepted. Not sure who are you calling criminal here. PS - If you are terming the home minister as a criminal here then under the new laws, you can be charged for spreading "misinformation" because the home minister hasnt been ruled as a criminal by any of the court and the definition of "misinformation" has been kept very wide (deliberately ofcourse). So, I would exercise caution before using any such words. :)

Criminal laws is in concurrent list, states are open to make amendments. Eg the Original IPC did not had Snatching as an offence, but Haryana made an amendment and made Snatching an offence.
