Check out his other vids. Best vids out there if you really want to know what the it can do offroad. Most of the other vids are Starbucks cruising auto journalists who have never been offroad and are amazed that a vehicle can go through some muddy puddles. So they have no base of comparison. Steve’s vids with TFL in particular are excellent. Now Steve- need you to do that comparo with the old Defender and Gladiator with this veh on that same trail again!! Have been struggling with the next move from my trusty Jeep Wrangler JK MW3 but this has opened my eyes. I know this trail really well, there are a couple of difficult obstacles and this Defender made it through even in the wet - I'm impressed. I don't want to give up too much off-road capability but we need to find something... well, a little more utilitarian-lux. Also, I'd like better towing capability, a mediocre Wrangler rated at 3,500lbs goes up to 8,200lbs with the Defender - that's Airstream territory. This could be it. Off to check one out with the offroad package of course. Thank you for making this video series, miss Wheeler Lake just 20 miles or so from my old house near Breckenridge. Have fun, be safe.

Pulls our 7800 lb 25’ Wakesetter up the pass at 80 mph like it isn’t even there! Wrangler has more articulation but this very capable for 95% of those that will even put it on dirt. It closes everything else out of the water in power and on road performance/ manners.

@@cotrails8356 Just tested one and it's awesome. Love the design, especially the interior. P400 engine is strong even for a heavy vehicle like this. Only pausing because there are few available with the rear differential lockers (off-road package) and confusion on the configurator whether the tow package includes it (I believe not). My only other concern, it looks like the winch option was an afterthought which is surprising for the brand. Process to add that, cutting panels etc looks horrific. Flawed diamond?

Snow is coming here in Colorado tomorrow, so our window is closing quickly for more shoots. This white HSE is set up right for rocks and more difficult trails. The Silver First Edition did not have a locker and we were handicapped by the 20” wheels. I would definitely order Off Road Pack, Advances Off Road Capability Pack. Plus, the conversion to 18” rims was a major leap in capability for advanced very rough trails.

A few questions about your mods: 1. Does the use of smaller calibers on the brakes to fit the 18s affect towing capacity? 2. Any trimming required for the 33s? 3. Does the mod to the brakes or larger tires affect warranty? 4. Did you have to re-gear for the larger tires? 5. Does the package that gives you the locking rear diff or one of the other offroad packages also give you rock crawl mode? Or is rock crawl standard even without any of the offroad packages? 6. Articulation looked better. Always difficult to tell such a thing from a vid, but it looked that way. Could that be because this one has rock crawl mode and other one didn’t? On my LR4 when describing rock crawl mode it says that it adjusts the air suspension to provide better articulation which is why I ask.
@cotrails8356
@cotrails8356 3 года назад
DADventureTV can’t say for sure how the smaller calipers effect trailer towing. Same size pads though. Have to trim back edge of wheel opening for the 33’s - cannot keep the factory mid guards. Planning to get 35’s on a 2 door over the winter Yes, both brakes and tires effect the warranty. Judgement call by the dealer. When in doubt, don’t No re-gearing. DADventureTV terrain response 2 has rock crawl mode. It’s not programmed how we prefer, so we dialed it better on our own for what we run. @dadventuretv2538

CO TRAILS ah. Makes sense. Nice thing about regular offroad height is that it still leaves plenty of sus for articulation. I definitely like the ability to program the traction control yourself- a very nice added feature compared to my LR4. Still wish they just had a button or switch to allow you to simply lock the rear diff when you want with no other changes. But maybe down the road they’ll add that. Look forward to the vids on the 2 door mods. Should be a beast offroad.

Were running 18” Tuff Ants. You have to downsize the rear calipers for them to fit We prefer Toyo Open Country MT’s or Cooper SST Pros 33x12.5r18 Allows you to air down to 15 psi without beadlocks. Big rims are painful on the rocks. I’m in a ‘21 murdered out 110 X now with 22’s and same tires. Looks awesome for street👍👍👍. We had to put spacers on and trim front bumper and shield to fit the factory rims with the Toyos on 22’s

@@cotrails8356 thanks a ton man.... The 4s run pretty awesome ... I own a couple homes in mountains...and let me tell I the snow is serious.... What size calipers did u need to buy?

@@christopheranthony9857 Lucky8 Off Road has a kit to downsize rear calipers. Same pad size. It removes the large bump cast into the original caliper that won’t allow the 18’s to fit. Both the tires above are good in powder or packed powder but suck on hard pack snow

Why not just start with the P300 which has 18” wheels as standard so only a tire change would be required? It’s not as powerful as the P400 but still has roughly 300HP, which is very competitive with the Wrangler Rubicon with the 2.0L engine.

Not enough power for us at high altitude in the rocks with big tires. We also tow a 7800 lb boat up the pass to Lake Powell and like being able to fly up the hill…

I have about 5k miles logged so far in Defenders and haven’t seen or felt any issues with that. The brakes are exceptional. Pulled out 7800 lb boat out of the water last week and the towing capability was so good I didn’t even notice the boat was there

I'm going to order one these, I'm ignorant of the difference between Configurable Terrain Response and the Terrain Response 2 and Off Road Package. Can you tell me about CTR and is it value added? Thanks p.s. You mentioned rear locker....is that in a pack or dealer installed? It must be needed because you added it, right?

👍🏽If you aren’t getting the X Model- Order the Off Road Pack plus Advanced Off-Road Capability Pack to get Terrain Response 2 and rear locker.

Good to see a proper off-road test and a set of muddies on one. Did that have springs and not air suspension considering you had a lucky8 2"lift? Thanks for sharing

@@cotrails8356 Justin @ Lucky 8 is running 35" tires with 2" lift rods. I opted for 1" lift rods and 33" tires as I do a lot of hauling. I have two significant hauls in the past couple months with over 6000 lbs behind my P400. Effortless, though the gas mileage plummets to about 9 MPH fully laden.

All sponsored vehicles and drivers every time. I wanna see a owner who spent their own money on this vehicle test it out in these conditions and give feedback. not the sales reps with demo cars! These videos feel like the vacuum guy coming to your house to show and tell why you need one.
