Yeah... lol... *however*, sharks do really "come out of nowhere" sometimes, as I've been educating myself about this. Often they will swim well below the prey, who they can see floating on the surface of the water (silhouetted by the light above them), and then swim straight up vertically, and EXPLODE onto their prey, who literally never saw them, and did not know what hit them til it was too late. You might want to read up on that... it's pretty interesting. Unless you can see 20 or more feet directly below you, and are looking down constantly (which no one in the water ever is), it would "come out of nowhere", with no warning or time to get away, so see ya!!! 😉

I made that decision 15 years ago, and now only swim in fresh water, and when by the sea...walk along the shore, ankle deep, and stay at hotels and campgrounds, with a nice pool. Yep...once walking two years ago, near Gulf Shores, Alabama at 7:00 AM in the morning, not four feet out from the beach was a 12 foot Bull Shark swimming along the coast line at the same speed we were walking. I shudder to think, it was hoping that we would wade into the water....and they are...a KNOWN human-muncher. Nope, will swim in inland and the Great Lakes, or someone's pool...the Atlantic and the Pacific other's can swim in....

They don’t put into statistics any of the spear fishing deaths ! For some reason if you die spearfishing or going for lobsters or any other species and get attacked those statistics don’t count cause you’re putting yourself in danger! Absolutely. We really shouldn't be "shocked", but then we never think it'll happen to us. It's the same with car accidents really... we go out on highways every day and know there's a real chance of dying, and we hear about it on the news, but it's always some "other person". We don't want to give up driving, just like we don't want to give up swimming, so we numb ourselves to the danger and tell ourselves it won't happen. Which is great until it *does*... then we're in shock, literally. I agree 100% about educating ourselves, and knowing whether man-eating sharks have been seen in the area, whether others have been attacked there, making sure we have no cuts (and for women, not menstruating), make sure the water is clear and we can see what's around us, keep in shallower water if necessary, etc... or if not, at least take responsibility for the fact that we're putting ourselves in possible danger, and if we get eaten, oh well!! Not blaming Lindsay, I think those tour boats had an OBLIGATION to tell everyone aboard that there were man-eating sharks in the area, and to swim at their own risk. If they KNEW that, which they should have, it was their moral responsibility to tell their customers... and know how to make/apply tourniquets and have a first aid kit, for Christ's sake!! 🙄🙄🙄

If I'm not mistaken, did the staff not warn them to avoid that areab, because it was known to attract sharks? Apparently because fishermen tend to dump their unwanted catch there. Still very sad.

I also read that they were not with rest of the group. Apparently in an area they were not supposed to be. I do not know this as fact, only what was reported at the time.

The only problem is that there are sharks who actually live in fresh water. Bull sharks

Sandra Ayala of diving or snorkeling just carry stick with sharp knife on end or speargun. Sharks hates those. Or just go on a cruise ship, no need to be in actual water if your that scared. Oceans are fantastic. The land has poisonish snakes, ferocious bears, wolves, tigers, lions etc. Even have mosquitos that carry deadly viruses. The land is very dangerous as the sea my Facebook Friends...

I am no Einstein, but shark experts say that first, they don't see well. Why they take one person when another is standing right there could well be just random chance. Someone talked about menstruation--how could anyone know if that were a factor? Sharks attack "blind", meaning as I said, they do not see well, something triggers the attack and I don't know if we will ever know the reason she was hit, and not someone else. You want to know why, but I'm not seeing at present enough evidence to know.

Because people get bored of their beaches in their countries. Plus, shark attacks don't happen as often compared to car accidents and shootings. 🙄

It’s a status thing, going on exotic vacations makes them more exciting and fun than other people(in their eyes). Also not everyone lives near the coast..... there are people that live hundreds of miles from the ocean so it’s not really an option to just go to a local beach.

The Bahamas is not blame for the death of Aaaliyah tho her plane that was supposed to come for her had a delay so they ended up using a smaller plane carrying them and their equipment. The plane was over weight causing them to fall right after taking off
