Gday, This video I make a new drawbar so I can run the mill as a horizontal machine, a short time ago viewer kindly donated a 50 taper ER40 arbor and I try this out on a piece of 25mm plate, I hope you enjoy the video and appreciate you watching, Cheers

I didn't read all of the comments, but that "Tit' of smaller thread is for using an adapter and running smaller toolholders. I have a 50-40 taper adapter for my Cincinnati, and the 40 taper uses the smaller threads. Great video.

I'm fairly new (within a year) to your channel but appreciate your skill and the way you think, so thank you for sharing them here. One more thing...keep leaning forward mate. I'm 70 and have nearly died a couple of times from maladies due to aging parts, so I can empathize. Getting old isn't for the faint of heart. But the effort is damn sure worth it--to you and the ones around you. All the best and I'm looking forward to your next project. Cheers and Merry Christmas from St Augustine, Florida USA.

Nicely done, even the corrective action. Having the option to go horizontal on your Cincinnati gives you that extra width. We made gears for Lister engines in the 70s & 80s, their engines had a good name. The valve looks great, well better looking than the pieces you had anyway 😉. You're so right when you said about retaining the stem diameter when turning. Regards to you and family, take care and be well 👍

Hi Matty, your Lister valve stem is probably 7/16" which is almost exactly 11m. In fact it's 0.00425" bigger so I'd almost be willing to bet that if you measure with an imperial micrometer you'll end up with 0.43775" or thereabouts. Pretty small numbers and you have to account for years, the last Lister 6 HP diesel I worked on was in Africa in 1962, so sixty years ago, of possible wear and tear. I'd be interested to know if I'm correct and what Lister engine this came out of. We had half a dozen on the folk's farm, from an early 30's "coffee pot" style water jacket, about 2.5 HP (rescued from the scrap heap by my dad) and a few mid 50's version, 1.5 HP petrol engines we used to pump water. As long as they had fuel they'd run forever. 🤞🇨🇦🕊️🇺🇦🕊️🇦🇺🐨👍

Gday Matty nice job mate and thanks for another video. I had to make a longer drawbar for my mill but mine was as simple as a trip to bunnings for some m12x1.75 threaded rod. Your not wrong about the price of material lately I just bought two bits of 4140 1 @ 50x250 and 1 @ 80x250 RND cost $200 with $60 for shipping just on 14kg it's not making things easy huh

Can I suggest the smaller thread on the drawbar is to pull a morse taper socket into an open ended International -to - Morse adaptor? Morse tapers are not keen on side loads and tend to 'walk' out if used for milling. Just a thought. I had an old flatbelt horizontal mill which had a 4 morse taper drive with no tang, the drawbar was ½" Whit. All the best, Robert

Nice work as usual.....That mill looks really rigid.....Going to be a joy to use....That valve looks great too....Does the mill run smoother with the 3 phase motor.....Thanks for sharing

Gday, The mill does seem to run smoother and much quieter, the mill is really rigid and thats why I was pleased to sell the small mill, that was like a piece of chewing gum compared to the Cincinnati, Thanks for watching mate, Cheers

Nice job on the drawbar. I've only had to catch a thread a couple of times. Followed how Abom79 showed on his channel and it went well. Hope you're doing and feeling well!

Hi Matty out of interest even Austin 7 cars were made in the 1920s using metric threads, so not too much of a suprise that Listers used them.

Warts and all; Your content is appreciated by people who know we're all human. Question though. If both nuts had the same cut, was there a reason you didnt do them in one operation? It seams you could have put them end to end and machined them at the same time.
@MattysWorkshop
@MattysWorkshop 7 месяцев назад
Gday, to do both internal threads together is possible, the internal threading tool I have tends to have a far bit of flex if its out of the tool holder a bit far and if I make a mistake then i've buggered both parts at once which has happened before, Thanks for watching, Cheers

Great job, as always! Just curious….if you’re making the nuts why did you have to turn the shaft down? Just make the nut to fit
@MattysWorkshop

Gday, The shaft was originally 32mm, I turned it down to make it look similar to the original, Thanks for watching, Cheers

I am 72 yrs old and have been married 48 yrs (49 yrs end of Jan 24). I have this theory. I get into trouble with the wife - doesn't matter whose wife it is. I am always on the receiving end of a wagging finger. Nothing wrong with me. Just ALL the wives I meet.

Nice save! Can I ask a stupid question? When you're single point threading how do you know you've gone deep enough? Is it a matter cutting, trying, cutting trying?
@MattysWorkshop
@MattysWorkshop 7 месяцев назад
Gday, I normally just keep cutting till I get the correct fit, possibly not the correct way but it works for me, im only self taught so its the way I know, Thanks for watching, Cheers
