You need to spin the drills, the drills are getting caught on the terrain.

Definitely this thing have to spin) Also you can lower piston speed and use different angles for hinges 10 degrees for one, 20 for another etc so it will looks like spiral thingy) Good idea to use few event controllers to stop drilling if drills inventories filled more than 80% and start again when its filled less than 5%, just to not waist anything and not babysitting this rig, good luck, hope you will survive))

Yeah, they need to spin to avoid getting caught on the terrain. And consider just setting the pistons to 0.00001 speed and let em work in the background.

That was kind of funny at the end when you couldn't assemble anything because your cargo was full, but you couldn't clear the cargo out because the refinery was working on the ore still. You can setup some really cool things like screens to show all of your ores or just your cargo container capacity status, and you can even setup a script to stop drilling if the cargo is beyond a certain percentage of full. You can do the same thing with your oxygen farms (turning them off to save power) once your O2 tank is at a pre-determined limit.

Now you need two things: a rover dedicated for the long trip to get a lot of ice. This is to fuel hydrogen ships, hopefully one that find platinum so you can switch to ion thruster as main and keep hydrogen as back up!

When i use drill rigs i think one of the best ways to approach it is coming off the piston do a rotor then hinge and only 1 drill head. Early on its a minimalist approach but you can have the rotor constantly running at one revolution every few.seconds and you just adjust the hinge angle every now and then. Run your pistons all the way down with the hinge at 15° then reverse it all the way and add 10-15° repeat

Cool you should make a giant drill flower with layer's of hinges and drills don't forget gyroscopes to level drills🎉

Large grid drills don't have the same radius around them that small grid drills have, when drilling. As everyone else seems to have said, spin the drills.

I also use one pistone up, extend and build pistons back down. Alot of space

If you like to manually control your large grid drill rig, consider putting a cockpit on any drill, facing down. Sure it's a bit ridiculous, but if you're clever you can use the grid mass indicator to get a feel for when the drills start getting backed up. When your drills are backed up, turn off "use conveyors" on your drills and manually move stone out of your main cargo back into the drills. When you have the available cargo space, turn it back on.

iv been doing lots of testing with rotating drill about 5 drills wide on each side from middle and iv found any more than 0.003 on 3 pistons and rotor on 2.25 rpm and drill don't get stuck and collects the maximum from the sides. it is slow but worth not having to repair the piping on the drills as I put 1 pipe between each drill

Ты молодец, раз используешь колено. Но ты используешь его неправильно! Колено должно стоять в основании в горизонтальной плоскости. Это обеспечит 180 градусов движения для всей рабочей части. После колена ставим поршни. Они обеспечат радиус рабочей зоны. Таким образом ты можешь даже одним будом обработать половину цилиндра с радиусом в N поршней. Пример скину позже. Так как не выкладывал свою буровую. Но похоже пора бы))

maybe the angle of the hinge is a little low, the drill is stuck in the terrain

pretty sure orange is the ones off the first grid then not really taken not of next stage from that. the different greens are the ones on the same grid.

stuck because of hit boxes of the drills I'm sure. it doesn't like the end box on the drill iv ran into same problem. it will smash into a base but it don't like the ground. well from. just bren testing with drills befor I start my first survival.
