Unfortunately the senate just included the language in their bill and it matches the house language, which was my worry. Now we have both house and senate including the language and they match, so it is a 99.9% chance that it will go through. Some channels are mis-stating this, which is misleading and unfortunate. I may do another update video, but the best thing we can do it to reach out to our representatives, it does make a difference!
They already have. See: Huawei. DJI will not be the last to go as our government continues down it's path of deciding what is best for us, while allowing publicly elected oficials to add digits to their bank accounts via lobbyists and insider trading.
No, that's what happens when you have a communist country that's our enemy, doing things to undermine us. From that point forward everything they do is under a microscope. Learn how to build a drone and stop whining.
My hometown was added to Stefanik's district in the last map redraw - I was a first responder for 27 years, and she's all talk, she's never done anything for the local communities and is only here to seek higher office. Hopefully the voters will see her for what she is, and vote her out instead of promoting the incompetent.
When they increased the licensing requirements for drones in the past few years, requiring citizens that make money with their flying cameras or choosing to volunteer their services for no fee to register with the government to operate a drone, the erosion of rights began. Since a camera drone is representative of our 1st Amendment right to free press (like any other camera), I feel this is the primer for additional laws that will first require licensing for a citizen to own a camera, but eventually cameras will become so costly that only the government will be allowed to use them for ‘safety and security’. This level of legislation is OUT OF CONTROL and our rights and freedoms to buy and use something based on our choice rather than the limits the government puts on us makes us no better than the very countries they are claiming are a threat. Our own government is the largest threat today to our freedom…
I'm a photographer and want to get into cinematography. I have the DJI Mini 4 Pro. Nothing like taking pictures and videos from a whole different view point. I hope for all it doesn't pass.
I'm AnSoc all the way, so trust me, I'm no fan of the govt., but this is sooooo "just another day in DC" and has very little to do with Stafanik or Skydio, those two are just jumping on the bandwagon because it benefits them. The first ban on DJI drones was in 2019, there has been 3 since. While I don't think this new ban is necessary, there are absolutely legit concerns regarding national security about Chinese electronics and specifically Chinese drones. China is going bye bye as a country by the end of the decade anyway, ban or no ban it's time to start looking for a new drone company.
Politicians across the spectrum and their "staff" tend not to be very bright about the "unintended" consequences of bills they propose. Watching from the Philippines where they are talking about more strict drone laws. Perhaps only criminals will have drones in the future.
You're not wrong, but this time it's all Republican paranoia. No money will come from this for the American market and all that will happen is substandard drones with bad software and make the hobby something only few will want to continue. When it comes to expensive drones of high quality for the military the USA can make plenty but for normal consumer that is not going to happen.
@@MrDecessus Not necessarily true. A lot of the cheap chinese clones are using open source software and open source board/controller designs. And a number of cheap crap you find on aliexpress, is made with 'factory second' literally dumpster dive components. And that is how they got started. We don't have that here in the US, because our labor cost more and we banned lead solder, way back in the 80s, but no one had figured out how to do wave soldering with lead-free solder, and robotic pick and pluck machines were new and very expensive. We used to be able to dumpster dive for stuff here too. The issue is, they need a paper trail in case there is a problem, so a manufacturer can issue a recall for parts made between a specific time because they have a paper trail, they don't have to recall all of the products. So they order a cases of components with like 10 reels per case, in part because they are cheaper but also because they all come from the same manufacturing batch. Not all components work from the manufacturer, they have a defect rate of say 1%, so they spot check them, and if they don't pass the spot check, they get thrown in the dumpster, and the manufacturer sends them a new case. The same thing happens at manufacturing plants, it is cheaper to throw out a bad batch, because now the components are mislabled so now, you can have xyz ic's or diodes or resisters. If you go through and test each one individually, you can find the bad ones and remove them. That pack of 10k resistors you bought from china for 3 dollars, is most likely just cut off the reels and repackaged and sold. They don't know why they are in the dumpster, they may not even test them. they make 3 bucks with maybe 50 cents in costs. That is like a days wages. The same thing happens with say prototype board, they gOnce production is over, and after a certain amount of time, and everyone is happy, they throw out all the extras in the dumpster. Well if you dumpster dive, you can get reels of components. they are either good components and they wer et thrown in the trash. Then the 'engineers' that have the test set-ups, were probably staying after work, and using the equipment to do small runs of stuff. They built a whole industry, based on industry waste. It is something we had, but we no longer do. The same thing happened in the UK. Part of this is also liability laws. If it is a US manufacturer, then if something goes bad, you sue. If it is a chinese manufacturer, you aren't going to sue.
🤦 When they're doing things in the name of national security, they don't care what the consequences are to the consumer. Only criminals? Huh? You do understand that people will still be building their own drones right?
@@MrDecessus it's not paranoia, you're just an NPC and you don't know what's going on, or what the Communist Chinese government is up to. Crazy that you would even think you know more than people that get intelligence briefings on the daily of what China is up to. Yeah, the Republicans don't trust china, for good reason. And the only reason you don't hear Democrats talking about it is because Democrat politician are paid by China. You didn't know that? 🤦
The fact is there’s nothing wrong with DJI drones, it’s the fact that the company is leading the market and it’s hard for competitors get their share. So what can be done? Hire lobbyists to propose a bill before congress
the only reason dji is so popular is it's so easy to fly their rtf's that even a 6 year old can fly them...Much to the chagrin of the long time non dji flyers that's what we have now..or at least the mentality at large. ..Most dji users don't seem to have any idea on how to fly well with other systems even though it's possible if the dji users can stand flying on 25mbps and avoid the "A" channel like the plague.. The whole group etiquette thing seems lost to them..
This actually is where they should be meddling. The problem is they took too long to act on it, and now American drone owners can potentially have billions of dollars of bricks in the next 5-10 years
@@mattmanbrownbro During cold war USSR was one who baned imports left and right.Look how that ended for them Now is actualy USA who takes USSR tactic hoping they will be better in it

Yep, and with what will likely be an inferior product from the companies who use their own software and designs. DJI will always be here, just under different names
they will make drones super expensive because they are effective tools of war and they don't want american people to have access to these tools for whats to come, trust me.
@@DingleBerryschnapps history always repeats itself. No, we don't have a history of drones but we do have a history of the government doing this exact same thing. It wouldn't be nice to look back and say, dingleberry snapps was correct.
No, they are NOT trying to do a "good" thing. They are fear mongering for political gain. DJI (and other Chinese drone makers) are popular because they are far and away superior to any US made offerings. This whole dji ban was started because Skydio was making shitty subpar drones and instead of working to make them better thy instead enlisted the lobbyists to fear monger. If the republiclowns were really concerned with peoples personal info and national security they would stop covering for an ex president who still possesses national secrets AND they'd stop funding a genocide that will inevitably turn many people to radicalized vengeance AND they'd pass legislation STOPPING our own corporations from selling our personal info for profit!!! No, this is NOT an attempt at anything good..... and don't get me started on the Tik Tok ban that is solely because young people are using it to inform the world in short snippets of the genocide being committed....
They were never trying to do a good thing and it's no accident. They do not want us to have drones period so they are making sure we don't have drones!!
Hopefully it takes 3 years to go thru as they're saying. That's my only hope, at least give us a little more time. The government wants us out of the air, period.
That's exactly what is happening get rid of competition ban the parts price it out of reach. The airspace is clear. Contacting representatives doesn't do a damn thing. We did it with the proposed rule making for remote id.
If you've already purchased a DJI product it is not effected by this bill. This bill will effect FUTURE DJI products seeking signal broadcast/transmission approval from the FCC.
@@haroldyazzie3538not quite true. I have a mavic mini 1, almost 4 years old, that still flies as it should, you just need to look after the batteries.
For those that say they cant ban them, have not been paying attention. 2 stroke motors, leaf blowers, bumpstocks, swotch plates and vitamin B17, are just a few things I can think of that have been banned in recent times.
They are going to do what they want regardless of what we say. We have done the same thing during the proposed rule for the remote ID. This is about getting us out of the airspace. If they get rid of competition ban parts you can't get price it out of your reach your grounded
Guess Elsie doesn't like drones or people enjoying hobbies. It's to bad that we've come to the point where OUR government rules us, the PEOPLE, instead of OUR government serving THE PEOPLE. Isn't our constitutional right to foster prosperity and growth? We're living in sad times then.
It may be good to get the residential realestate industry into this movement as well. A great deal of all listings are enhanced and even focused on the photography and videography done by drone operators.
Yup. If there is a will there is a way. Ukraine has hacked DJi drones to get around geo mapping and the Os from stopping them from flying in country. I’m sure we can figure out something especially considering where things are headed. Our government literally hates freedom and the freedom loving.
Thanks for sharing! We can still affect the outcome, write and even call our reps. Hopefully we can make the difference... Might be the opportunity for a company like Sony to step into the consumer market too, we'll see... 🤙

Biden still would have to sign it so... and I don't think congress has 2/3s in both houses to override a veto. Biden said he would sign it if it came to him. Blame stefanik for it existing in the first place but let's not forget who actually signs it into law too.
@@0utcast I have not seen any news saying the president would actually sign this into law. But then presidents plenty of time say they will sign something knowing it will never reach their desk.
DJI will counter the law in such a way that it’s indisputable. DJI isn’t posting everyday about this. Or doing much lobbying, tv appearances, etc. They are in my opinion strategizing for the next steps.

Thanks for this timely information! I've got good representatives and senators here in Oregon! Love flying along the coast. By the way, just received my Potensic RID module, but crashed my drone, so waiting for parts from FIMI! On the way, quickly! Good customer service.
Our US Senators are, indeed, good. Our Representatives vary depending on the District. Mine, for example (Salinas - D) is a duplicitous grifter feeding off the easily duped.

What if Chinese consult with companies who manufacture drones made in Singapore or Vietnam, the other company makes the drone.... Then they pay the Chinese company? Then what?
Not true, it's already fcc authorized meaning it can sell for the next 10 years along with all the drones that are already fcc authorized. This bill says nothing about retroactively banning already authorized drones. That is possible that the fcc retroactively bans the fcc listing's, but that's not in this bill.
Forgot to add... Well congress can't dictate whether another country puts a satellite into orbit although they can launch ASATs and destroy them ( but then you couldn't fly into space anymore cuz of all the debris.) But they can control what we can fly...
@@0utcast I kinda doubt China would ever do that and if I was doing it I’d just use a very fast RC plane which has been around since the 1960s. People tend to worry about a lot of stuff that’s never gonna happen.
Seems like DJI might have a workaround to the current Drone Bill, apparently they have partnered with the American Company Anzu Robotics to license technology for sale in the American market. Wouldn’t be surprised if prices increased, but their tech would still be available in the US. DJI controls about 70% of the global commercial drone market and 80% of the U.S. market.
The problem here is that it also effects Canada who would also deal with China. But when the American market disaperes the Canadian market goes with it.
Everyone needs to understand the wording of the bill. The way it's worded is that it will effect all FUTURE DJI products that require FCC approval to transmit signal. Not CURRENT DJI products that already have FCC signal transmission approval. So...if you currently have a DJI product...gimbal, drone, microphone etc that already gained FCC approval to broadcast or transmit signal by the FCC, then that product will not be effected. Only future products from DJI seeking FCC signal transmission approval will be effected per the bill's verbiage.
Pardon my ignorance.. Just seeking clarification. is FCC approval to transmit signal a default by the purchase itself, or is it a step that needs to be taken after purchasing. In other words, If someone already has one of these products, are they by default protected, or do they need to take steps. Thanks in advance for your help :)
@@cfox28 If you purchased the product in the U.S. and it broadcasts a signal (WiFi, radio, bluetooth etc.) it already received FCC approval and is not effected by this bill. Hope this helps.
From what I gather this will affect the RC plane or helicopter hobby also. I think it would affect the RC car, and truck as well since the components for transmitters (RC) mostly come from China.
I have a solution to this problem, and this is what I would do:first, remove all the electronics from the drone Airframe, than install a normal speed controller and receiver. The only electronics that can be used is the 4 brushless motors. My model airplanes have normal speed controllers and receivers as well as servos. So the government can't stop me.The only thing that can is an EMP which is a much bigger issue.
Yes. The wording in the bill is that it will effect all FUTURE DJI products that require FCC approval to transmit signal. Not CURRENT DJI products that already have FCC transmission approval.
What is really worrisome is a bill introduced in the Senate by a democrat, Sen John Tester from Montana. It echoes the house proposed bill with a few refinements. Sen Tester is a senior member of the Senate and chairs the Senate subcommittee on Defense Appropriations. These anti-drone bills, and more specifically these anti-Chinese drone bills are attached to the much larger defense appropriations bill which will get much more attention and has to be approved despite that it is so large no one really knows everything that is in it. With Tester’s backing and democratic control of the senate this bill will be sent to the democratically controlled White House to be enacted and signed into law. Now is the time for drone operators to be worried and to be very worried that these carefully crafted and disguised bills targeting the Chinese drone industry will come to fruition…
Bought a DJI mini 4 from amazon and got it two days ago contemplating on keeping it. After reading all these comments, I decided to open it and start charging the batts. I've got until July 22 to return it. Hoping I'm not wasting $1200.
I would also tell everybody to take care of your drone electronics.Reduce the ware and tare by not flying as often. This will make the drone hobbyist more. Savvy. There are US companies makings circuit boards. The tough part will be is getting electronic components.
jeesh. decided this morning to buy my first drone. wanted a sub$200 drone, then wanted built in screen, so i stretched my budget and got a DJI mini3 w screen. Then 10 minutes later see all this about a BAN!?! now what should i do?just wanted something for recreation, grandkids, etc...
Honestly, go ahead and do it. IF the ban actually makes it through in it's current form the likelihood of already purchased drones getting grounded is unlikely. It would likely be a few years for anything to go into effect and a lot can happen in the mean time so don't deprive yourself and grandkids of the enjoyment until you have to worry about it. After the election it may fall off altogether. 🤙
Honestly, we don't know that. Until (and IF) the final bills are resolved by the house and senate, we all can guess and give our opinions, but it it is a possibility that the FCC approval is revoked for existing products. DJI could also get pissed off and brick current drones via a quick firmware update if they are locked out of the US market. Again, not saying this will happen but who would of thought the US government would ever attack the consumer drone market with a "BAN" in the first place? It's all nuts and defies common sense.
They are not going to police anything, it's for future drones which is annoying but should not affect people with already DJI drones. I still think this will die in the coming months.
They could send a new update to brick it.... And DJI requires you to login sometimes before you even can fly. Means your connected to the internet .. and from there they could do all they want. Not allowing you to fly without the new update .. then brick it... and you wouldnt be able to fly anymore. But i dont think it would come that far.
The whole situation with drones being stuffed into some military bill shows how ignorant and childish some people are in our government. There are citizens in the USA that need support in heath housing that the government ignores. They focus on war money and their selfish interest not the people
PCBway - make your own flight controller. As for the very expensive fleet I already have and paid the government protection money on they can come and try. Don't make me do unreasonable things.
You see if you’re anticipating a ban no matter what then it’s best to allow that to happen. The ban applies to the US. They will still be sold in other countries that still allow the import.
I've already sent an email to our senators. Unfortunately, they do not have the time to respond to everyone on this matter so it's a pre-written response back. I literally just feel like our hands are tied!
Although you get a form letter back, the emails, calls, and letters ARE recorded and tallied by staffers. They then report to their bosses that, for example, 217 people contacted us wanting you to vote against the DFA. So, don't despair and keep writing. By the way, a handwritten letter is given about 10x more weight than a petition according to my member of Congress. Too easy just to click a few times compared to actually writing a letter/card.
Writing to a politician is like writing to a career thief and expect him to change his mind! It's a waste of time; they go with the flow; the government flow or is their lively hood at stake!
Ban away, I'll just ignore it anyway. I fly in the middle of my midwest city, no people around and when you are higher than about 30 feet, no one is going to ever see it.
US manufacturers will struggle because they cannot easily export there machines due to ITAR restrictions, EU and Australian makers don't face such restrictions to send them that way.
I'm seeing hundreds of trucks with military equipment heading to the Houston Ship Channel for shipping. Where is it going? Does it have anything to do with this new China Drone Ban?
Anyone have any idea how I could buy a drone? For two years I have been in debt that determines my life, and for the next two years it will not change. Photography and small travels are the only things I have left...
We live in interesting times. The U.S is feeling threatened and is now in full scale protectionist mode and attempting redraw and recarve the global geopolitical boundaries even if it means lowering the living standards of its citizens. Vladimir Lenin observed this behavior of imperialist powers competing with each other that would always result in war.
Do American politicians react to letters from concerned citizens if no bribes are involved??? The ban on Drone parts Does not sound like something a country touting freedom would do.
I believe we're living, now, at the tail-end of The Golden Age of drones. I fear it's about to come crashing down very quick. Why? My Govt. and military contacts are completely freaked out over the evolution of tactical use of drones in Ukraine and implications for criminal/terrorist use, domestically. There are huge 'future of drones' discussions taking place in many circles and most of it reactionary and paranoid, but some quite legitimate. Don't dismiss this angle of the equation, it's very real. I anticipate private drone ownership/usage as getting ever more highly regulated, to the level of firearm ownership and enthusiasts being put on 'watch lists', for better or worse. This is way larger than just DJI.
But under no circumstances do I see them selling or sharing their IP with any US drone manufacturers. It’s better to lose one country than the lost your company
