The cities of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach have made some new emergency laws for the operation of bikes in the city limits. This appears to be in response to many gangs of young people on bikes and on off-road electric motorcycles, causing a lot of trouble on the bike path and near the pier. In this video, I talk about the new e-bike laws in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, which are the south Bay beach cities in Los Angeles county. There are speed limits and also rules in some places that require you to turn off your motor and the police are very serious now about impounding any off-road electric motorcycles ridden on the street or the bike path. Some of these laws are new, and some of them are existing laws that the police are being more serious about enforcing to try and stop the e-bike gangs.

No one got "defunded" in the south bay... Y'all really need to stop with that narrative. You can just say that law enforcement regularly doesn't do their jobs and selectively enforce the laws.

If you can’t ride 8 miles an hour, perhaps that means you need to train riding better… slow speed skills are fundamental.

These regulations seem sensible. I heard a lot about potential regulations and worried that they would go too far. Making it comfortable to walk along the beach by limiting speed in specific areas is a good compromise. As is limiting electric motorcycles, which should be treated as motorcycles. I'm very against age-limits and license requirements - people who immigrate here and teens without cars already can't drive, taking away e-bikes would do even more to prevent people from getting to work.

I agree that they’re mostly sensible. When the beach gets really busy, it’s pretty dangerous down there to ride at anything other than a low speed or walk your bike. The only thing I really don’t like is forcing e-bike rental companies to spend a lot of money on Geofencing. I know that a lot of of them are barely staying in business as it is. I also think that the current speed limits of 20 miles an hour throttle and 28 miles an hour pedal assist on the street should stay in place. I don’t think they should be lowered. There are a lot of people who deliver food and commute to work on the regular streets. The beach cities have a lot of hills, and some kids live more than 2 miles away from middle school and high school, and there is no bus service in the beach cities, so I think kids should be allowed to ride electric bikes to get around town and especially to get to school.

ridiculous to have parts of a bike path where you can’t even ride your bike. then it should no longer be considered a bike path. there’s a part of redondo beach where the path leads to a parking area. last i heard, you had to walk your bike there. people saying the marvin braude bike trail is 22 miles must be lying because it is no longer a bike trail and disrupts the experience of just riding. there should be one path for bikes with uninterrupted riding.

I see tons of them riding around on the street at night out here in Rancho Cucamonga. Even starting to see golf carts. Back in my day we would ride YSR 50s, but they were street legal lol.

There is a lot of traffic out there now. I think it’s better than the kids sitting home in the room playing video games. 10 years ago you never saw a kid on a bike, and now they’re everywhere. I think it’s a good thing.

You shouldn't be on a bicycle if 8mph is not manageable! (P.S.: You probably also shouldn't be making videos.)

Stop lying about the laws the truth is that you can be sued so you don’t know the laws I know the laws and the United States supreme court in Washington, D.C. has decided that all citizens including children have the right to drive and travel on public roads and highways and the cops can’t steal e bikes from kids that’s illegal what is legal is that kids can drive e bikes
