Deriving technology from the EG4 3kW All-in-One Solar Inverter, the EG4 Chargeverter is a powerful 48v battery charger capable of charging at 100 amps or over 5000 watts.
100A max charging current for quick charging rates - adjustable from 0A-100A.
-Capable of charging a 5.12kWh battery in ~1 hour
-Recommended charging current: 30A per battery to maintain battery lifespan.
Optimal for use with a generator. Plug directly into a generator to charge batteries without power quality issues (dirty power).
- Inverters typically allow input from a generator as a backup power source. However, budget generators can output “dirty power” or an unreliable sine wave to the inverter, affecting the inverter’s ability to provide consistent power.
To solve this, simply plug the EG4 Chargeverter directly into a generator to charge batteries without power quality issues!
Battery Voltage: 48V nominal.
240VAC or 120V input capabilities (120V configuration requires cable adapter, not included)
Built-in breaker for added protection

@@awrosemba I can see a use for this. In my case, I have a 4-ton HVAC unit that draws a large inrush current upon startup. My 12k AIO battery inverter can handle this, but my 7kW Honda inverter generator can't...even with a soft start on the HVAC condensing unit. If I connected the generator normally, it would be powering my loads and also charging the batteries but I'd never be able to have air conditioning during this time. By having the generator powering the batteries directly using this chargeverter, the inverter and batteries would continue to power the loads and handle the large inrush spikes while the generator sends it's power to the batteries. As long as the average power being used by the loads is less than what the generator is putting out, the batteries will charge up.

Have mine on pre-order and looking forward to it. My generator is undersized for my system but perfectly sized for this unit, so this will save me from needing to upgrade my generator. Have been considering building my own DC generator to do what this will allow me to do without fuss. I hope they ship soon.

Been using mine for a while now. Saved my bacon more than a few times, and saves me a TON of money running my generator to charge up my stack. It cut my fuel costs by about 75% when I have to run the generator during extended rain/snow days. I was using the 18v unit for a while prior to getting this unit, and it was worth every penny.

You mention that voltage collapse is the leading cause of inverter failure. And that it’s not covered by warranty. Searching your web site, the only time I see “voltage collapse” talked about is the blog post for this product. Is it documented elsewhere? It seems like something important to make sure your customers know about! From a technical standpoint, I’m also really curious to know if the Chargeverter is also susceptible to the problem or if it’s limited to the charging circuitry inside of inverters. What would an out of warranty repair on an EHC3000-48 cost if it was damaged due to voltage collapse?

I purchased on 6/6/23. I finally tried to hook it up 2 weeks ago, but it didn't charge. I confirmed AC to the unit from a 4KW 120V generator. I have it set to to a low amperage for testing. It's wired to the bus bar that ties 12 EG4 batteries to my inverters. My entire system is working fine. I contacted tech support, but Tristan C. responded with an insane info/photo request that would take me a couple hours to compile along with some comments about my small generator, as if that's relevant. I've seen elsewhere that the modules inside sometimes come lose in shipping. Is that a good place to start troubleshooting? The display doesn't turn on until the DC breaker is flipped if that's relevant.

I’m looking for a versatile option of charging 120 and 240 from the grid when available with an adapter on a smaller 10kWh battery bank taking into account max amperage on a 120 system. Is a lighter 120 charge supported by this charger? My 6000xp can’t do it from what I’m aware of

The ChargeVerter does work on 120V circuits if you have an adapter for the 240V twist lock plug, but the maximum output will be lower. The plug pinouts for the adapter can be found in the manual.

This is very cool! I’m quite new to this - what setups is this best suited to? Does this still make sense if your inverter already supports charging batteries from the grid or a generator (eg. SolArk 12/15k)?
@designdepartment841
@designdepartment841 Год назад
This unit makes more sense for scenarios where your generator us undersized and your inverter does not have the ability to adjust AC-input amperage draw. If your inverter is already giving you the capability of adjusting the AC-input draw for undersized generators, there wouldn't be much of a need for this unit realistically. Some folks also simply don't like the idea of sending power from their generator through their inverter system - this unit allows you to bypass everything and go straight to your battery bank.

So how does the charger communicate with the batteries and not overcharged them? I noticed you set the voltage to 56V and amperage to 66 Amps for a 48V battery bank and 7,000 watt continuous run generator. Does the charger turn on and off using the voltage level? If so isn’t 56V pretty high for a 48V battery? I have my unit but I don’t understand charge control logic. Thanks in advance.
@3rett115
@3rett115 Год назад
Agreed. I actually just plugged mine up and noticed the manual says nothing about what to set the voltage to. I have the EG4 batteries, and the bulk charge voltage (according to the manual) is 56.2v. So I set the chargeverter to 56. But like you, I am wondering. As the the batteries approach full, will this unit do any adjustments? Does it know when to shut off? I think EG4 should address this somehow.
@MikeGrayM70
@MikeGrayM70 Год назад
No communication is necessary. As the battery approaches the Voltage set on the charger, the Amps naturally reduce. Eventually, when charger and battery both match up at say, 56V, current will stop flowing. At that point you can shut off the generator. It will just be idling. I don't think this particular charger would shut off. It would just sit there at, or close to, 0 Amps. A LiFePO4 battery that is said to be 48V has an actual Voltage range of around 58.4V (full) to 40V (empty). Actual numbers will vary depending on who made the battery. 48V is where the battery spends a lot of its life. They call it the Nominal Voltage. Like a 12V car battery. Could be anywhere from 10V-14.5V, but 12V is nominal, so they call it that.

ok but how do you figure the amps based on what my generator can do..
@snyamathi
@snyamathi Год назад
The spec sheet lists 54Vdc x 50A which is 2,700W though you can adjust the amps down. Factor in some inefficiency and that you probably don't want to run your generator over 75% of it's rated power. So you'd probably want like a generator rated for like 4,000 running watts to use the default 50A and would need something like a 8kw generator to max this out at 100A. As a quick rule of thumb, divide your generator running amps by 100 and that's what you might want to set the charger amps to.
@scottloo4118
@scottloo4118 Год назад
@@snyamathi so if my generator has 11k running watts I could run this at 100 amps and more than likely charge fairly quickly while consuming the energy to my house at the same time, correct?
@snyamathi
@snyamathi Год назад
@@scottloo4118 Yeah the max output is 5120W so your generator would be more than capable of powering this unit at its full rating of 100A. However, do note that the manual says "Recommended 30A charging rate per battery to maintain battery lifespan and 85A total charging rate to reduce heat output of the unit." so you may not want to run it at max output anyway. I'm not well versed enough to comment on using this to charge while discharging, but I'd like to know this too. Charging can have more nuance with charging profiles, BMS communication, etc which goes beyond what I know currently. I don't see why you couldn't though.
