Look like a great charger. I think the reason it didn't ramp up to 100 amps is because it was at about 5100 watts. 53.6v x 94.9a = 5086 watts. If the battery is down at 51volts you should see the 100amps. Great video, thanks.

I just started on my solar journey. I am 70 years young. I like watching your videos. I recently purchased a chargeverter. I was wondering about the amp setting. I have the chargeverter connected to the grid on a 30 amp 240 volt breaker. I set the amps to 25 amps. Is this correct?

No the amps are DC for the charger. So 21 AC amps should be around 5000 watts. So you can set to 100 amps DC. 👍

Rodney, I ordered one and will get it in July. Supposedly. I got 2 questions you might be able to answer. how much power does the unit use in stand-by, and what battery protocol does it use. I have Sungoldpower wall mount batteries, and the defalt for them is Pyrotech. but it is changeable to 4 other protocols.

From what I have been told it only works with EG4 for communication. You should be able to use voltage for non eg4 batteries. Will need to do an update video on the power usage. Can’t remember

I just ordered one of these today. I started looking for install videos and Signature Solar posted one 2 weeks ago. There were a few comments on that video that the charger would cause the 6000xp to reset when the breaker is switched on? I like the generator auto start function and hope it works from voltage reference since SS says to use comms only if comms are not connected to 6000xp.

Have not had that problem. But I have only 12 of 17 batteries communicating with inverters. Due to cable length. But I connected charger to a battery for SOC that was not connected to inverter so everything works fine that way for me

Good video....I have the previous model Chargeverter. Good to see what changed. Question: do you have any concerns with your EG4 batteries on edge versus flat on a battery rack. I had understood that on edge would damage them...I sent an email to Signature Solar and they told me must be laying flat. enjoying your channel! thanks

Your 6000xp can do the same thing have you considered using a sub panel and moving your loads over there and just use grid input connection on the 6000 to set state of charge just like you are doing now without the Chargeverter. Thats what I did basically my ENTIRE house is a “critical loads” panel Thanks for the videos BAM!!

Unfortunately my grid power is not close enough to economically do that at this time. Plus I would need to move all loads in my main garage panel to another one so they could run off solar while having grid on. So for me at this time it is cheaper to run power to the chargeverter than 3 inverters. 👍

I've read that the EG4 inverter will "reboot" when the Chargeverter first turns on. Something about it freaking out seeing the sudden in rush of current. This completely defeats the purpose imo. Can you confirm if this is the case with your 6000XP inverters?

@@rodneyhunt it’s very low. Started at 35%. We have the power pro batteries and we just finalized installing the whole system so now trying to get each of the batteries up to 100% so we can parallel them together. Thanks!

The chargeverter only communicates with EG4 batteries. You can always use the voltage settings though since BMS communication is not possible.

Having the 6000xp, was there any need for the charger? The 6000xp will charge batteries from solar, grid, or generator, with less $$$ and wires.

Only if grid is close. Grid is in my garage so would need to run some serious wire from the garage to my power shed. Then will need to move all circuits from main grid panel to a new panel that is run only on solar. My setup is definitely different than most. Maybe one day I will run service to the inverters

Love the soft start. Old version kills my propane generator. I have to lower the amps to 5 and click through the menu to slowly raise it. Seems like my only complaint has been remedied in this one.

Technically no, but you would need a large generator to charge and run loads at the same time.

I have put not power on the chargeverter full time yet. I have some work moving main panel circuits to a new panel so the grid will only be used for charging. Will check it though to see and post it.

Rodney, why use the chargeverter to charge your batteries, won't your inverters direct power back to your batteries to charge?

If you have grid input which I don’t. It would cost more to run power for all three inverters vs running power just for the chargeverter. Plus the smaller wires will be easier to deal with. My system is in a shed and my garage has main grid panel.

@@roybeard6727 I like both for the applications I use them for. The 18k does have some awesome features but I would need at least two of them to run my house off grid. They only have 12k output and the 3 6000xp’s of course have 18k combined output. But if money is no object the 18k.

Cargerverter comes in really handy with "dirty power".Like using a cheap generator for emergency charging of the batteries. The voltage, frequency and sine wave on that gen might be crappy you don't want to send that though your inverter potentially damaging it. If you are charging via grid power, probably not needed.

building off grid very soon. i wanted to know does the eg4 system capable of 3 phase. wanted to run some older equipment that is cheaper to keep than buy new.

The EG4 does state in the manual that you can select 208 volts. I have seen some firmware talking about 3 phase so I believe so. I would contact EG4 directly to verify. I will do some more research to see what I can find out! 👍

What's your AC input voltage that you're getting that much? Mine tops out at 89 A and that's from a cold start. I have my generator output set to exactly 240V. I suppose I could raise it to 250V and see if the EG4 unit increases it's output.

I believe it all depends on your current state of charge and how many batteries you have. What was your starting state of charge or voltage?

I think the max output of 5120 watts (100 amps) is only seen when voltage is below 51.2 volts. Since 51.2 at 100 amps is the max wattage 5120. If voltage is say 54 volts already then the charger is at least 55 then max amps may only be like 93.

@@rodneyhunt I thought so too. And I thought raising the charge voltage setting would increase the current, but it did nothing. My battery bank was below 50% SoC due to a long period of heavy rain and thunderstorms plus the burden of air conditioning in the 90 degree weather. I have both the yellow older model and the new black model and the yellow consistently produces more current by about 4 A. Both are in parallel. I have exactly 240V coming off the generator. I can try turning up the voltage adjust on the generator toward 250V and see if that increases the current output. Some have reported being able to get 100A about of these.

@@NativeChukchansi You can use SOC. Just connect to your battery then go through your settings to start charging at your desired state of charge and then the stop SOC.

You can set it with voltage and it should. The BMS soc communication only works with EG4 batteries though.

Required generator size. 20kw generator required for 3 6000xp inverters. Easier to use smaller generator to charge batteries directly

It absolutely could. But the generator size for all three inverters would be outrageous. This can save in generator size/cost. Perhaps you could make it work with one inverter but the generator would still be larger than what the chargeverter would need. 👍

@@rodneyhunt I actually think this is better for a lot of reasons. Zero possibility of backfeeding. Not saying I am crazy EMP guy or anything but your system is practically isolated from the grid as a pulse would need to go through a transformer which is not likely. With my system I have a solark 15k and it has lugs directly off the meter. If something happens on the grid this thing is getting fried.

i dont understand why we would need to buy a seperate charger when there is a a/c charger built in, being offgrid means that most peope have dirty modified sine wave gas generators, why wouldnt they incorperate this charger into the solar eg4xp unit, not everyboy has pure sine wave gas generators, as if we didnt spend enough money allready

Well I just don’t want to run grid to all 3 inverters from my garage since the electrical wire is very expensive and I like having other options with this charger. It can run with less power or even 120 volts if needed. The inverter needs 240 of course. I say for many people grid input is the best option for times when solar is not great. But that’s if you have grid

For me with a offgrid cabin and a 3000w 120v only Honda generator, this is a must. I’m not spending more cash on a 240v generator when the Honda has worked fine for me for years. I got my EU3000is setup for propane and auto start. Works great with a separate battery charger connected to my battery bank.
