Joy McGuire told 365 Sports that realignment isn’t over. Expansion can bring several potential benefits to the Big 12 Conference:
Increased Revenue: Adding new teams to the conference can lead to additional revenue streams from sources such as media rights deals, sponsorships, ticket sales, and merchandise. With more teams participating in conference events and competitions, broadcasters may be willing to pay higher fees for broadcasting rights, leading to increased revenue for the conference and its member institutions.
Enhanced Exposure: Expansion can broaden the geographic footprint of the Big 12, potentially reaching new markets and expanding its fan base. New teams from different regions can attract viewership and interest from fans who may not have previously followed the conference. This increased exposure can lead to greater visibility for Big 12 schools and their athletic programs, raising their profiles nationally and attracting top recruits.
Improved Competitive Balance: Adding new teams with strong athletic programs can enhance the competitiveness of the conference. Additional competition can motivate existing members to elevate their performance and invest in their athletic programs to remain competitive. A more balanced and competitive conference can lead to more exciting matchups and increased fan engagement, benefiting both the conference and its member institutions.
Opportunities for Rivalries and Traditions: Expansion can create opportunities for new rivalries to develop between existing and incoming teams. Rivalries are an integral part of college sports and can generate excitement, passion, and tradition among fans. Developing new rivalries can help strengthen the identity and culture of the conference while adding to the overall excitement of conference events and competitions.
Strategic Positioning for the Future: By expanding its membership, the Big 12 can position itself strategically for the future of collegiate athletics. In a rapidly evolving landscape, conferences must adapt and innovate to remain competitive and relevant. Expansion can help the Big 12 solidify its position among the Power Five conferences and ensure its continued success and viability in the years to come.
Overall, expansion has the potential to bring numerous benefits to the Big 12 Conference, including increased revenue, enhanced exposure, improved competitive balance, opportunities for new rivalries and traditions, and strategic positioning for the future. By carefully considering potential expansion opportunities and selecting new members that align with its goals and values, the Big 12 can strengthen its position as a leading conference in collegiate athletics.

Texas can almost be blamed for starting all the realignment along with ESPN. They were a major part in the Southwest Conference issues, then proceeded to destroy the B12 and when they drained it of all value leading to many teams leaving, they moved on. I'll never forgive the greed of that university. I'll look forward to seeing the drama they create in the SEC going forward.

You are correct …UT got their personal TV network and demanded a bigger share of the pie….conspired with OU to run the conference to the ground! Conspired with Governor Ann Richards to get UH and TCU and Rice kicked out…and demanded Baylor be included or she would impact funding ! Worked on adding West Virginia vs UH or Rice or SMU …dumb inclusion to this day !!! Ran off…Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Colorado, and A& M .. Unfortunately the others kissed their you know what…as long as they could ..until they got theirs kicked…and left them a lurch!! Greed power and Money and control will be harder in the SEC…where they have schools that won’t be bullied!!

Keep sleeping on UCF. We are not losing guys that are important on the depth chart if they were, they'd be having tons of offers right now but they don't. Some of this is roster turnover with upgrades especially on defense, we've had booms like Nyjalik Kelly (Miami), Cedric Hawkins (OH St), Tre'Quan Fegans (USC), and will continue to have more big booms soon. I hated the pac 12 imploding! We need a power conference on the west coast! We need less east coast biases not more! If college football ends up with just the big 10 and sec , I believe college football will go the way of the usfl. A great number of people just won't participate!

I feel for you, I do. However, the P12 had the opportunity to proactively merge with the B12. If they 😢 done that, the resulting merged conference would have been better than what happened when they decided to fight against the inevitable. Sadly, the ACC has that same opportunity right now, but will probably make the same mistakes the P12 did.

Here's why expansion is bad. The PAC 12 went away and that strengthen the Big 10 and SEC control over college football (1 less power conference.) If ACC goes away that just more reason for the Power 2 to breakaway from the Big 12 (only remaining Power conference, in this example). I know it's counter intuitive; the thinking has always been expansion equals strength. But the Big 12 needs the ACC to remain a power conference. Otherwise it's 2 (Big 10, SEC) vs 1 (Big 12). If that happens the Big 12 falls into irrelevancy, regardless of how good the basketball is.
@Theywaswrong
@Theywaswrong 4 месяца назад
The Pac 12 going away is the TOTAL fault of USC and UCLA, to begin with. The others knew they were going to get left behind if they did nothing. What a shame they couldn't work with the Big 12 to shore up their position. Don't blame the Big Ten except for the lie about some phantom agreement with the Pac while working to get those two LA schools.
@Alohanate2004
@Alohanate2004 4 месяца назад

Wake up..here is the deal on the table..make it happen Yormack! Wheel and deal!! The Power 3 Pacific Coast Conference…..WSU, OSU1, Cal, Stan.,Utah, BYU, Colo.,Ariz., ArSt….9 teams…add two.! Central Coast Conference …Kan., KSt, UH, TT, Bay.,TCU, SMU, ISU, Cinn. OSU2….10 teams…add one! Atlantic Coast Conference….BC, Syr.,Pitt, WVa, VaTech, Wake, Duke, NCSt.,GTech, Louis. USF ……11 teams All in one League and equal pay and level playing fields…30 to 36 teams. Extra money from championships, playoffs, and Bowls. Should a few stragglers…ie. Virginia or Miami or Clemson get left behind …then the other conferences adjust to keep it even….could add Memphis, Tulane, San Diego ST, Boise State, USF and or UConn! This group negotiating as one is more powerful than the B12 and ACC scrambling alone!! Makes so much sense..the Power 1/2 will reject it and ESPN will also…..which is exactly why you should do it! Matter of fact…I would add another Conference for Basketball…the Big East and Creighton, Gonzaga..among others. Take over March Madness ! And shut the enemy ( power1) and the devil out (ESPN) ! Form the AFL to compete with the NFL…..think towards reality and the future!!

Hey man...in the future please explain why ACC teams would be interested in joining the BigXII. It is hard for an ACC fan to see why that is in any schools plans over just replacing with schools like UConn, USF, Memphis, App State, etc. rather than joining another conference at the same level? What is in it for leaving??? The same dollar amounts would be there for tv so struggling to see why so many in Big XII country think this will happen. Speaking of the Duke's, WFU's, Boston Colleges, Louisville's, Syracuse, Cal and Stanford's of the world. Two of those already rebuked such a move so what is the incentive? So many Big XII fans think this will happen but just not seeing it from these schools. Maybe Louisville would leave??? Maybe not. But reloading with others seems the more logical choice. Less travel, similar with AA status compared to big 2, etc. Once Deion leaves....what is left among the Big XII to excite any current ACC member likely to be left out? Basketball??? What has the big XII got to warrant the hysteria that ACC teams will join Big XII? Just not feeling that love among the ACC likely left out schools. So maybe do an episode on why that will actually occur over just reloading with teams currently left out of the tiny 2 once ACC implodes? (Figure if there is a Big 2...there must be a tiny 2 composed of the ACC leftouts and the Big XII left outs). Just show me how my reasoning is unsound if you are a current President or even alum of those without a Big 2 invite).
@kingsgambit7734
@kingsgambit7734 4 месяца назад
BTW love your show and watch it regularly. Just don't see any ACC fans clamoring for a Big XII invite and just confused over why so many Big XII sites (365 Sports, John Kurtz, etc) think the ACC will truly implode when their fans would rather reload rather than move west. Iowa State vs South Florida...sorry but we prefer Tampa. Manhattan or Memphis...Elvis ROCKS plus the Blues! See my point? So what is the incentive? And I travel with an RV....so what is in it for my family other than a ton more miles??? LOL
@SecretAgentRandyBeans-bn7qk

“The same dollar amounts would be there for tv…” I believe it hinges on that assumption being not true. Between the lawsuits and opt-outs in the deal with tv partners, the suspicion is tv partners can opt out long before 2035 and intend to do so. Then the ACC must re-negotiate the deal with Stanford, Cal, SMU, Wake, BC, App state, USF and whoever else you want to add with FSU, Clemson, probably UNC & others gone. Even without an opt-out, at some point the ACC will have to negotiate based on its actual schools. Then an implosion from that point with schools taking other conference offers, XII if no SEC or B1G offer, rather than a substantially lower ACC deal based on its members.
@danhauser3361
@danhauser3361 4 месяца назад
Because you will and want to control your conference and become a Power 4 ..or 5 …with less money in the future….losing your top 5 or 6 teams will hit you hard of interest… and contract negotiating strength…you need a real partner….Big12 ! Not perfect…but you will be put in a corner !
@scammers4prison37
@scammers4prison37 4 месяца назад
So much of the value of the ACC conference will leave with the definite defections of clemson, fsu, north carolina, Virginia, and Miami (at a minimum), leaving for the big 2. The contract they will have to renegotiate with ESPN will be at least a 35% pay cut per school and probably closer to fifty. The error the acc made is that the 2023 additions don't really move the needle.....cal/stanford-the respective campuses could care less about college sports in general. Smu-one time fundraising grab of $100 mill is only about 3 years conference payout in the B12 + located in a state that is already heavily saturated with football and, realistically, smu will probably never really be able to comeback from the ncaa death penalty. Syracuse has been on a steady decline in everything the last 10 years..Add in that duke, BC, ga. tech, wake don't have fan bases excited about football and you can see where pitt, va. tech, louisville, and probably nc state are easy prey for the big 12. B12 shouldn't be too cocky either because only pitt and Louisville are the real tv market gains. There is no way the acc can backload with app. state, Memphis, USF etc. and think ESPN is going to pay anywhere close to the the same $$ on a renegotiated TV deal. The basketball talent will still be respectable, but as we've all seen the last 15 to 20 years, football revenue rules the roost. Not trying to belittle anyone's school (I'm a WVU fan) and, to be fair, our national significance is rocky at best and has been on a downswing since dana left.., but the B12 can come out of the acc implosion with a lot of increased value.
