While there may be some other ways to cut through to the shippers quicker it really just comes down to you and the person on the other end. A connection is mandatory. I guess my top tip would be to make 100 calls a day, there is a crm out there for brokers. It’s called freight genie if you use them tell them steve with ads referred you.
