Chris has been on the launch of the new 2022 Gas Gas SM 700 Supermoto and ES 700 Enduro bikes. Two crazy bikes, one crazy rider makes for some proper two wheeled fun. #gasgas #supermoto #enduro
I had a 2009 KTM 690 Duke; best handling bike I’ve owned in over 40yrs of sports bike ownership, 2-3 & 4 cylinder bikes in the mix. I currently own a GasGas 300 2 stroke enduro, great bike. I will be adding one of these Supermoto’s to my garage.
I had the husky 701 (2017) made an amazing commuter bike, so light yet so powerful, Power commander/ ecu flash made an amazing difference to low down power, -1 front sprocket was fun :)
Hard tip for KTM: instead of selling the same platform under other names, why not use some R&D and make the unicorn bike? It is not too far a step away!
Looks like a fun launch trip. Do we really need yet another version of the 690/701 platform? I don’t think so. KTM should rumble through the parts bin and make a the 690/701 Adventure to replace the ancient (but epic) 640 Adventure. Too hard? It seems so 🤦♂️ … so just make 3 almost identical bikes in 3 different colours with different stickers 😀👌🏻😞
@@Bow-to-the-absurd that is good news. I mean, i own the 701sm. But man it would be fun with a lighter, even more nimble bike to just thrash around. I don’t need to go 180km/h whit the roads i have here (nor am i capable😂)
If it's cheaper than the 690 it will sell like mad, but as is typical gasgas fashion now odds are it will be slightly more expensive for the red paint over the orange plastics underneath.
Absolutely love it. I'm a long term supermoto lover and this is the best ever, orange, yellow or red is the choice. Choose your badge or and colour. I'm intrigued by the cast wheels as the spoked wheels s on mine are heavy, do you think the cast wheels are better for road riding only?
I had Husky 701 Supermoto for a weekend and was seriously tempted to trade my Street Triple R for it. Seriously capable machine and massive laugh. As a bike foor hooning around and fun stuff it's almost impossible to beat.
@@JamesMadelin I'd love to, but I can currently afford only one bike. And I need it to do fooling around, commuting and decent amount of touring with my wife as a pillion. Triple can do all of those things even with luggage, 701 cannot. Shame. But I'll trade the Triple for more touring option next year and than I'll have space for that sweet SUMO.
The wife's the problem these...Husky will go overland around the World better than the Triumph... everything available for the KTM/Husqvarna fits this...big tanks, luggage, etc
Never understood why they never offered a package with both wheels (KTM/Husky) - it's 2 bikes in one and that would be a hell of an offering. I know you can probably buy and retrofit but a package from the dealer would be amazing. track rubber on the 17's Saturday and Sunday in the mud!
It would involve wheels, tires, shorter / longer kick stand, different size sprockets, brakes. Factory kit would be great though but most probably very expensive.
Good point. I bought a 701 enduro to be the perfect compromise between dirt and road, but I find myself riding twisty back roads just as much as dirt, because this bike is so incredibly fun to ride in the twisties!
@@JohannesDalen same here. Just get another set of 21/18 wheels and put more road oriented tires. Super quick 5min swap if you wish to ride both dirt and street.
Yep given that the bolts holding rear tank (that works as a subassembly/seat) are known to break no thank you. Probably not going happen while travelling with pillion on asphalt but for that price at least sort out that issue KTM
Really hoped they’d make a Rally version of the enduro model with a bit more wind protection, luggage capabilities and a windscreen. I bet they would sell like crazy. Instant (more off road capable) competitor to the T7.
There are different Rally kits available for the bike as well as luggage systems as well, but it's 100lbs lighter than the T7 and since it carries the fuel underneath the seat it feels even lighter than it already is
@@crashalexander7232 I have, and as I was looking for a more off-road usage for my next bike, I ended-up buying the KTM. The KTM is a big heavy dirt bike, the T7 is a full-on fatso adventure bike. Comparing both only on their off-road capabilties is not even fair for the T7.
So sick...Only thing id change Is the seat cover, I'd put red ribs on it. And maybe buy a set of spoked wheels to switch out every once in a while to change the look.
I absolutely would love one of these, any of the 3 varieties. But i cannot get over the price, you can get alot of other full blown motorcycles for the money.
Love the kneely wheelie 🤪 Your bike control just goes from strength to strength. Insane off road abilities. So much talent. Wish someone had (or would?) let you race a proper superbike just for fun! 😉
Hey Trevor, Chris has raced, he was in World Superstock 600 and a bit of BSB. He still has a rider profile: www.worldsbk.com/en/rider/Christopher+Northover/1501 We'll pass on the love, he's on the way back for the Desert X launch.
I could see this SM sitting next to my converted CRF450 RL Super Moto. I was put off by the trelliss frame at first but at least there is an enduro model. Purpose built SM like the hyperMotard defeat the purpose.
Do KTM/Husky Gas make a touring 690 or is it too close to 890 Adv, Imagine 690/R7/sports tourer type thing would be fun. Always liked sports tourers but the name or reviews seem to keep them down. Comfy bikes I say. Sorry wrong place to say this. Run away.
There's a husky long range that's more suitable for longer travels. Although as a person who was thinking about it vs 890 Adv R, I'm super happy i went with 890. It's an amazing machine. This + proper enduro (if you want to learn faster/tacker harder terrain) as the 2nd bike is the way to go.
Did they manage to make a worst of both worlds seat and remove the good features from both the ktm and husky seats? Im sure seat concepts will fix it, but that thing looks like theyll have even less to work with than the other two.
I hope its cheaper than the KTM. Plastics in these last abt as far as you can see so, always buy the cheapest of the 3. That drivetrain is nice with the LPR upgrades.
I have the 690 and do not aggree it is the best bike on the planet for doing wheelies...Its just too easy to get into trouble with that power compared to for instance certain honda XR models that a total novice even might soon safely wheely through the gears on
Iv'e had a few 690/701's and they're still too heavy ... please please make a 1000cc single, 100bhp and under 100kg ... supermoto or flat tracker style ... that'll be the Daddy
Make the 700 using that 700 2 stroke Zabel engine. That’s a engine (but give it a electric start as my bone on bone knees cannot do big bore 2T kickstart)
Do now there are 3 brands of unreliable high strung motorcycles. Nice for those who trade bikes as soon as the warranty is up and never get too far from the dealership. LOL!
Cant we have a 450 with 80+hk, top speed 240-260kmh.. i'd buy it defintly. 450's are fun but to slow top speed.. 690, could be fun but to big and heavy..
how will a single cylinder 450 with no aerodynamics AT ALL get you to 260 kmh ? you're either dreaming or have no clue on motorcycles. You also want it to be as light as a motocross bike commuting at 240 kmh? aight i'm out, the longer i read your comment the worst it gets....
@@kef1kef2kef3kef4kef5 Small ass 200cc~350cc bikes with no aerodynamics made on third world shops by random mechanics can achieve those speeds so it is only fair that I expect 450cc bikes made by manufacturers with top of the line R&D from multi-billion dollar companies to be able to do the same.
@@habibsspirit @Golden Maximo even if that's true, and I don't believe it, one thing is to develop a bike to be built in a factory, another is to build up a on off bike without any industrial cost issue, and no need to comply with any rule. To reach that weight/power ratio you have to use very expensive mass:the Suter mmx500 has a a 2 stroke 576 cc v4 engine, it's not street-legal, and it has 195 hp per 160 kg (dry) but it costs over 100k $! On another note have you ever ride a 100 kg bike up to 130 km/h? It wobbles like a cooking mixer!
@@francescoporcari8597 Search for Alto Giro Preparações on RU-vid, or BARacing there are plenty of videos of small 150cc bikes that had their engines tuned to achieve those speeds, and yes, it's possible with both 4 strokes and 2 strokes. Brazilians, Indonesians and the Portuguese are all famous for being able to achieve high speeds with small bikes.
Those bikes are not some supermotos, that's the opposite of the base idea, way way too heavy, and honestly on track a 450 still destroyes it everywhere. Still a nice street bike pretty polyvalent but better take a Duke 690 way lighter ans better overhaul
I own a Husqvarna 701 enduro and I’m in the USA. It seems that 690/701s are no longer available here but the GasGas will be. I’m sure they’ll all be made on the same assembly line. I heard rumors that the the GG will be the low-spec economy version, KTM will be for performance and Husqvarna will be fore the elite. What’s your thoughts? I’ve been on the 690/701 platform for 10 years.
That's odd, I'm in Canada and we usually follow the US market, but I was at my dealership the other day and they had 3x 2022 701 Enduro's and at least 1x 2022 690 Enduro R.
@@JeanOi absolutely nothing in Oregon. The guys that ordered 2022 bikes had their orders canceled. I do think some 2022s got to the USA at the very beginning of the year.
