3D Platform sent over some new glass build plates for the $38,000 3d printer. It arrived on a pallet in a home made box with a bunch of foam on the inside. I couldn't WAIT to get this on the machine. Thanksfully, my wife were there to help me out. Let's print some PETG!

The 3D printed dial indicator works fine (it is a print in place design so it can be hard to have a working device but once you found the good parameters for your printer, it works like a charm). You should use it on your new freshly levelled bed and compare it with your measurent device.

You know - a trick I learned recently is to zigzag some glue stick onto the print surface. Then spray some IPA onto the glue and wipe it around the print surface making a thin layer. You get a better surface finish and really good adhesion and afterwards you really just need to spray with IPA and wipe down again. I reapply every couple of days. But much more efficient use of glue stick and much less messy.

Just something you might know ..or not. Float glass actually get so flat by floating on a hot Tin bath. That results in a Tin side on every piece of float glass, that side of the glass pane that was actually in contact with the Tin bath. There is probably a difference in the adherence of the printed part to the glass, depending on which side is up. If you want to know which side is upwards...use a Woods UV lamp that has a Woods glass filter in it. The Tin side of the glass will look whiter than the other side under illumination with that UV source. That is how its detected in the glass industry. Link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood%27s_glass

You should get in contact with Filafarm in Germany and get their special "Filaprint" interface material for this printer. I use mine on my TEVO Little Monster for years now and it still works like on the day I bought it - prints stick perfectly while the bed is hot - ince it cools down the print comes right off.

Holy sheet, you got me anxious! Why did you not use 3M Blue tape on the glass? It's the definitive solution for all filaments. And you can use it with any compound you like, from glue stick to 3D printing sprays. It's specially valuable for PETG.
@mechanicalmaker9323
@mechanicalmaker9323 4 года назад
If the glass happens to break again you should look into replacing it with an aluminum sheet instead. Much cheaper, more durable, and you can still get good bed adhesion by using painters tape or a glue stick. You could also try giving the bed a textured feel to see if you could bypass putting anything on it.

Please review Makerbot Method X. I just got one a couple of weeks ago but I have not been able to print anything because the software is locked-out unless you have a Makerbot brand support material spool loaded (recognized with RFID). They sent the printer with a spool of PC-ABS but no SR-30 (which would be required based on the extruders they sent with it). I guess they're backed up in providing filament cause I have been waiting for my order of SR-30 to arrive.
