Hey JD, I have a 2020 Chevrolet High Country HD 3500 SRW I ordered. So let me just tell you a couple things that no one mentions. Upfitter switches are a option $150.00. Difference between HD2500 and HD3500 is literally $580.00.. When I’m towing my 5th wheel and you turn on your turn signal. That left or right camera under the mirror come on and you can see perfectly down the side of the truck and trailer. I bought the trailering camera or see through camera what ever you want to call it “awesome” lots of power pulls well. Heads up display awesome shows turn by turn you don’t have to look down. Just my 2 cents
How many differences have you found between the 2500 and 3500? I factory ordered a 2021 sle double cab 8’ bed and I can really only find the overload springs and beefier rear axle ‘pumpkin’ as legit differences. Oh yeah, the 3500 HD on the door makes the truck get lots more respect! Hahaha but it’s true BTW I ordered the upditter switches Well worth it
I just sold my 2019 Ford F450 "Western Hauler" conversion & purchased a 2020 GMC Denali package... Really like the GMC. I agree regarding the knobs & even the power window switches have a less quality feel to the touch. Setting those two things aside, great power train, love the overall power of the Duramax & shifting points of the 10 speed Allison. The exceptional quality of the leather in the GMC is obvious when you enter the cabin yet firm in seating comfort compared to my Ford trucks & I've owned many. To date, I'm really satisfied with my 2020 GMC & as stated in your video, the technology is there. Great video JD, "Thank you" for your overall assessment & quality commentary.
lol, I just traded my 19 GMC Denali for the 2020 F450 Platinum. Worth every penny! I could not stand the feel of the GMC towing my 20k trailer but the F450 is a boss! Love the style of the f450 too. Best looking dually on the road and not even close. Plus industry leading power which is noticeable! Oh, I also fell in love with the best in class turning radius, game changer!
I purchased a 2020 3/4 Chevy LTZ. I absolutely love it. JD some of the concerns about the hood height go away after you drive it for a while. Also ths camera system aides with that issue very well. I drove comparable Ford, Ram, and GM trucks. In my opinion the ride was superior in the Chevy, along with acceleration. I wish all 3 manufacturers would lower the trucks a couple inches. Two biggest reasons I bought the Chevy over the others were the technology packages and the price! Many thousands of dollars lower. On top of that my dealer cut an additional $7000 off the sticker!
I think we sit lower in the GM pickups and that makes the visibility worse, but I don't care I like having my seat lowered down in my Denali and riding in comfort even if I look like a little kid driving from the side view.
I just purchased this exact truck and we love it. Very comfortable, smooth riding, and quiet. The camera system and Heads up display is amazing. Very quiet for a diesel. The 10 speed Allison shifts so smoothly you don't even feel it. The acceleration will blow your mind. The bigger hood makes it feel and look like a beast. The block heater cord is a plug in on the lower left side of the front bumper. No more plug sticking out of the hood. The tail gate is awesome and easy to use. The 120V plug in in the bed is perfect as well as the 4 way and 7 way plug set up. The 5th wheel set up uses a 4 point system built into the frame. The infotainment system is easy to operate. The placement of the cell phone charger is perfect. I am 6'5 and the leg room in the back was great. even after I set the drivers seat for me and then sat behind the drivers seat. The light buttons are easy to use after you have used it a few times. I agree it could use a few accessory toggle switches and the tires could be bigger but overall, AMAZING!! We got our truck down to a more respectable $73 grand.
I have owned 14 brand new trucks and in 2001 I bought my last new one. It's a Dodge 2500 4x4 diesel. Currently, it has 434000 miles on it. I pull my 42 foot Toy Hauler with it as well as my racecar trailer which is also 42 feet. It has only had the valve covers off once to replace the gaskets. It has had three transmissions but that's really my fault because it has over 800 HP. We have been to 42 different states including Alaska. Thats a good looking truck but I will keep on with my old Dodge and can't wait to surpass the 500,000-mile mark... :)
Pretty sure the reason the console is not as deep towards the front is because the subwoofer is located there. The thing I love as a small business owner that uses my Denali as my work pickup and office, is the console area that folds up can fit a standard filing folder! I keep all my receipts, bids, maintenance records and other things in a dozen different folders and it makes organization so much easier as a small business owner using my pickup as an office on the job site. I hope GM never gets rid of that feature!
I have the 2019 Denali and I just love it. It pulls my 37ft High Country perfectly. I will update this fall with a 2020, I would go to a 21, but I do not think there will be many if any. Plus hopefully they will have good deals. One thing you did not mention is that GM extended the truck by ten inches. I don't remember which the areas number, but the bed, the inside of the cab, don't remember the third, but it is 3, 3, and 4. I love what they did with the truck, lbs of torque to me isn't a big deal, especially with the ten speed transmission. But great job explaining the truck.
I think the wheel base changed 10" and the overall length was a couple inches longer. It's been a while though so I could be wrong. If I remember right they got more cab room by pushing the front wheels towards the nose more.
Id go with ram honestly. Not surprised or would look comfortable with this were the ram will stick out more interior wise. Exterior, ill give it to GM.
Duramax all the way my brother-in-law had a ram with the Cummins then he sold it and bought a Duramax and he said he never go back my brother did the same thing the Cummins was not nearly as snappy and harder on fuel
@@dwaynefehr4317 the only reason it woukd be harder on fuel is the driver. When towing, im not a race car driver. Anyone towing will tell you slow and steady wins the race. Ram is also 2 less cylinders to deal with and a track record from hell on reliability. The issue with GM is the interior and suspension. Ford has always been the motor and trans. Ram has the electrical problems. Personally, i could care less if my dash goes out as long as the truck keeps moving. The last electrical glitch my GM had immobilized the thing till fixed. The last issue i had Ram, i had to beat the dash and it worked fine. Damn wires. Personally, ram is an all around better truck on towing performance, handling, and comfort. Ford is edgy and annoying with its features with a cooking trans at 200k miles. GM is always injectors and suspension issues. Now when i say "performance" im not talking 0-60 with 35k on its back. Im talking its the most consistant and predictable when towing. Something ford and GM lack.
Two years later and I just locked in this same truck today and I will pick it up tomorrow. I did get power running boards, but otherwise mostly the same. The MSRP is now 91k and I think I got a great deal getting 6200.00 off of MSRP, almost unheard of lately. So thanks for the review, I hope I like my new dually, for once I will be legal towing my 5er.
Another cool feature of those keyless doors is when you unlock the driver's door if you double press the button all the doors unlock. We love it on our GMC and with 3 kids it makes it easy to unlock their doors and not have to dig in your pocket for the fob.
Good honest review, would expect nothing less from your channel. Nice truck, your point about the height of the hood is very valid. I sat in one and felt a little intimidated to be honest, it's really high and visability is an issue. I like the styling, engine and transmission but like many I think the interior is a miss opportunity for General Motors.
Clearly GM is serious about competing in the dually market after having been a far distant 3rd place for so long. That's a great looking truck both inside and out and your review was excellent as usual. Regards, Tom
I had 2017 3500 Denali Duramax single RR. Just picked up my 2020 3500 Denali Duramax single RR. Wanted the Allision 10 speed and the cameraing system and we haven't been dispointed with the Allision or camering system. The 2 things that have found annoying is the tilt steering column does not have adjument point for steering wheel and no more signal indicators in the side mirrors. Having owned the 2017 I miss those 2 things, but the majors items we wanted for towing our 39' 5th wheel have fantastic.
I'm four months late but a few notes I'd like to make... You said that the truck has a 4.32 axle ratio. I'm sure you just misspoke, but some viewers will think that is actually the case. New for 2020, the only available axle ratio with the Duramax is 3.42:1. And it works very well for all situations with the new 10 speed transmission. When upfitter switches are ordered, they are located on the left side of the dash, relatively low, to the lower left of the steering wheel. I'm glad to hear that a Ford person likes GM's new radio/infotainment system. Especially in recent years, Ford and GM people have usually disliked each other's radios. I agree with you about the wheels. GM has been the slowest to adopt newer dually wheels forever it seems. They didn't even have aluminum dually wheels at all until... 2011? Ford and Dodge probably had them 10 years earlier. Even now, only four of the wheels on that truck are aluminum, the inside duals are steel. I also agree that the "task lighting" (what GM calls the lights on the front of the outside mirrors, operated by the switch you didn't know about at first) should have an indicator somewhere to tell the driver whether left, right, or both lights are on. Other than those two things I like everything about the truck. I am a big fan of the rearview camera mirror and surprised you didn't like it more. Did you know you can adjust its height angle and zoom?
Awesome looking truck but, I also wish GM would have put outfitter switches. Thanks for sharing JD enjoyed the video and review. I have a 2018 GMC and I love it.
two questions for ya, my friend. First, is there any information about how well these new diesels handle the emissions stuff they've mandated on them? Or I guess I could ask, "which diesel engine between, Cummins, Powerstroke, and Duramax are least effected in the long run by the emmisions? and second question is can you review some older diesels some time? we'd all love to get a new truck, but most of us can probably only afford a used one. thanks man.
They gave me $55K for a trade on my 2015, then the OTD price loaded, in Calif ($1400 registration $7.010 sales tax) was $79.500. Loaded had every option available except the snowplow. Yeah too expensive, but the Fords are Overheating with no resolve from the dealer nor Ford and the Ram needs a 10 speed. Ram dealers out here are former shister Rambler dealers and are worse to deal with than ever. They lost our business long ago.
I just purchased a 2021 Chevy 3500 high country Dually. Absolutely dig this truck. Had a 2018 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn. This is so much better in my opinion. The 10 speed transmission makes all the difference. Also really love all the interior amenities and the way it looks outside. I powder coated my stock rims black, Did Cerakote on my caps and it turned out great! Thanks for another great video.
GM definitely stepped up there game in towing, power and styling ... I just got a new work truck it’s a 2020 Chevy 3500hd regular cab long box Dually and there are 5 auxiliary switches and they are to the left of the steering wheel down above your knee, it’s taking some getting used to compared to location in my old truck being a 2008 F-350 with the ford location being in the Center of the dash
85k ? You could buy a used pre emissions semi truck and rebuild it like new. Engine trans rebuild complete 40k Paint 10k Interior 5k Suspension 10k Tires 7k And then 10k left over for electrical, plumbing for the engine and trans and reman the rear ends. U can then haul 80k lbs all day for the next million miles. 85k on a pick up is insane to me.
Kevin Hart - Correct. I was gonna say the same. There was a truck at my local dealer with them installed. I’m not a huge fan of the location I’d prefer them up top like Ford and I agree they should be standard.
I have the 2019 model and I see several enhancements that GMC made to the 2020 model..primarily the air conditioning to the rear seat occupanrs as well as the power extendable towing mirrors. Great video of a great truck!
That’s called a thank you button in the big truck world . You flash your marker lights after passing another vehicle to say thanks , after they flash you firsthand to say your clear to come over
I agree completely with your opinion on upfiter switches. They should absolutely be standard. I believe the switches are next to your left knee if optioned.... That is a beautiful truck!!
Watching this while stressing about my 2015 GMC Denali HD 3500 being in the shop for a complete fuel system failure. 78k miles and it broke down. Might consider the Ram limited for my next dually
2015 Duramax is still the LML engine, GM since went to the L5P Duramax and it doesn't have the fuel pump issue that can grenade the fuel system. It's not widespread enough for GM to do a recall and replace that fuel pump, I had a 2014 LML Duramax and I towed over 90% of its +70k miles I owned it without a single issue. I traded for the new L5P Duramax recently and absolutely love this new Duramax.
Great review JD! I agree with everything you said. I just can't get over that interior. The seats look like they are out of a 1980 Buick. It's just not up to snuff. Then again I own a 2019 Ram 3500 dually diesel. I love it!
The camera system on my 2020 High Country 2500 is amazing. It will ease the feeling of not seeing well over the hood. I use all cameras often, because they are there for convenience, and ease of use. Pulling my TT, and the other four trailers I own is easy...put on your blinker, and you can see all the way down the side of the truck and trailer when that blinker is on. Th ride quality is great. The HUD is awesome too! I personally love the auto up/auto down on the Chevy tailgate. Im not a fan of the multi pro tailgate on the Sierras.
Agreed great time for used cars too bad most people are beginning to struggle to take advantage rn... i wont say i kno economics of used car but hopefully this deal lasts long time
Did you notice the steering wheel, one complaint us gm owners have had for years was the wheel was slightly offset. Meaning in a 10and 2 hand position the left arm was extended a little further than the right hand.
Hopefully the black plastic trim doesn’t loose the color after a few years. Somehow I think the youngest drivers will be able to quickly navigate that video screen. Buttons are still my preference. Thank you for another honest review.
@@55afishead With all of the dressings that have come out that are useable nearly anywhere on an auto/truck surface that tout that they restore shine and long lasting luster; I don't really think the plastic dulling is a big problem.
I’d like too thank you for both F-modals and M- modals in comparison. More room, 12” differentials, smooth shifting 10 speed transmission. Lacking, hood vision, center cargo space, accessory switches, no lighting in door panels or rear passenger area. Little storage for straps floor jack or additional recovery items are lacking. I’ve 2020 6.6 Sierra. Although rather expensive. Will put my money up as WELL spent. Thank you. KUSS Family. Travle safe.. 17:36 17:36 17:36
Anyone catch the slipup on the gear ratio. Should be 3:42 with the new 10speed "Allison Branded" transmission. I have an 18 Denali DRW and the one thing I would change is the hood with the fresh air intake. I don't know how much power is gained but I would doubt it adds 10 or 15 hp. The parking assist sure helps though.
I really really really want to like a GM product. My brother thinks the sun rises and sets on a GM and I'd like to put my truck money down on one when the time comes. I've decided to not be a 'Brand Fan' when it comes to what will probably be my last new truck and get the one that will work hard, be dependable and that I just get that 'I like it' feeling. I've walked around, driven and sat in all of the full-size rigs top trim levels and even still, the first thing that comes to mind when I get in a Chevrolet/GMC and just let it soak in is 'cheap'. I know they are supposed to be the most dependable long term trucks (JD Power), but no rear fender liners? Engine bay fender well open down the splash skirts? Rear bumper trim pulling up? Hollow sounding plastic interior panels, cheap looking controls/cheap tactile feel. . .doesn't make me feel like I want to tow my new RV in it for months on end. There is still time, who knows? My score sheet has Ram leading (hot shot drivers use them a lot) with Ford coming in second (Very prejudiced against aluminum and special tools). Again, time will tell. Love the videos, keep it up!
I’m having a hard time deciding between the 2020 Denali DRW and the 2020 F450 Platinum. All you’re points on both trucks are spot on. The truck will be pulling a 36 foot 5th wheel toy hauler. I’ve had a Duramax/Allison since 2006, so my heart is with the GMC. But the F450 turns so well it’s amazing! Any advice in the decision making on these 2 rigs? Is the turning radius of the F450 worth switching to the powerstroke? Any advice will help. Thanks & keep up the good work on the videos!
@@russellrobins5320 about 3 months. I ordered at the end of July and didn't take delivery till early November. It was difficult to get answers from GM. My dealer was very helpful but the factory seemed overwhelmed
@@danmoore9387 we factory ordered a 3500 express van and it took four + months. To make matters worse when it was on the rail car it was subject to a recall on the limited slip axle so off the train it came and back to Missouri it went! Other than that though it has has zero problems and and just a pleasure to have. All our GM vehicles are that way, they wear but don’t break from poor engineering. A dealer lot purchase 2004 2500hd we have now has 212000 on the drivetrain with zero issues. I’m certain your truck and my new truck will be the same way.
Missed out not getting the Ram with the HO motor and Aisin transmission. Mine has been flawless and campgrounds seem to be full of the Ram, which in my opinion says it all.
I’m a big fan of GMC vehicles. We’ve got a 2016 Yukon Denali we bought used last year with 50k miles and didn’t pay anywhere near retail. I can’t even bring myself to think about paying $80k for a truck. I’ve been looking for something to pull a 5th wheel and 1 ton dually’s aren’t even on my radar. I’m looking at well cared for Kenworths and Volvo road tractors for half the price.
If they'd update the interior and be on par power wise with Ford and Ram, I would seriously consider it. Also, Im waiting for Ford to update their interior, ram to get a better trans and larger fuel tank and then I'll pull the trigger on one. I'm not brand specific and just buy the best truck for me. In 2015, it was the ram 3500
Great truck but a few complaints: Interior materials - they seem to get it right on the 3LT C8 Vette (maybe I'm wrong). Do the same here. Wheel design and size - same wheels I had on my '15 LTZ. Time to upgrade and the 19.5" Alcoas on the F450 is a good starting point. Black plastic trim - makes an $80k "luxury" truck look like a work truck. I'm torn on which one to buy and not ruling this out but none of them are perfect.
needs some wheel liners in the rear. You'd think for $80k they would be included. Really visible on the white paint, darker colors probably not as bad.
I have a 2018 2500HD Silverado Duramax. 2018 was the last year of a true Allison transmission. Chevy bought the right to build their own transmission and slap the Allison name on it. Yikes! Also the 2018 has the L5P Diesel. Rock solid. And only $41,000.
A few comments. 1. No...its not worth 80 Grand. Silly to even ask that question. 2. Those small wheels look absolutely rediculous. 3. You are right about the Ford "touch" doorhandles. They are terrible...even in my 2019. 4. The front dashboard area on the GMC is a complete fail.
Keyless is nice but if the battery goes dead like my 1999 GMC Sierra from sitting in the driveway while I’m in my semi most of the time it’s nice to have an old school tried and true key entry system
In 1986 I drove a army 5 ton semi truck. It had the old tires on it, 10 x 20 (the 20 being the rim size). They came out with the A1 model and it has 22.5 inch rims and much taller tires. The engines were governed. The A1s ran 62 mph. Mine ran 59.5 mph (a guess) but it did it on the flat and up the hill to Baumholder Gremany. Though they would out run me, I would always pass them on the hill. So bigger rims and tires... what do you want to give up? Seams like the 3500 is a hill climber that may need less 🐎 to do it. Just saying.
Found my GMC Denali Dually. Heading Friday to pick it up if all goes well. Think I got a decent price quote, but wish you'd share your thoughts on "Out the Door" pricing. Thanks, this video removed any doubt of switching from a SRW purchase to a dually. Well, I still have doubts, but the apparent pluses seem to outweigh them. 🤷♂️
I’m going to stick with our 04 Powerstroke. Most reliable truck we’ve ever owned, pulls anything we out behind it, and... it’s been paid for a LONG time 🙂
How is it that people complain about the price of a truck like this yet buying a $140,000 BMW sedan is worth it. What do you think has more capabilities, a truck that can tow 35,000 pounds or a sedan twice the price that makes loud exhaust noises
@@marvin7098 I'm a small business owner (but I don't think that makes any real difference) and have a new GMC Sierra Denali 2500hd, I had a 2014 Duramax and with it being paid off at trade in that put a huge dent in my new pickup loan. I did a 6 year loan and my payment is under $500 month so I'd say many buyers are capable of owning these pickups, you either need to save up for a big down payment or have a decent trade in that's paid off.
Being 6'6" and 350lbs I had to walk away from everything new. My wife's new Suburban is very uncomfortable and unenjoyable for me on long trips. There's nowhere to put your left foot and try to stretch your leg also have to put the seatbelt on before closing the door. Guess I'll have to stay with older equipment for comfort. Great looking truck otherwise.
I have the 2500 high country and I always keep the rear view camera on full time. My cousin drives it often yet he can not get used to it and always turns it off
Man do them denali duallies look damn good next to that water. Even though I'm a Ford and Ram guy I still love them denali duallies. I can tow my horses in cozy comfort with that yacht of a badass.
Interesting video. A two part question. I have a 2019 F250 platinum power stroke F250 crew cab. According to fords brochure it can tow over 14,000 and has a payload of 3400 lbs. however on the pillar the payload is 2040 lbs. which if we worked backwards, assuming a20% tongue weight and some people and cargo would mean a maximum 5th wheel of less than 10,000. I don’t see how to order a ford to match a towing requirement without simply going to overkill (350 drw or above) I recently watched a video of a 3/4 Chevy that had a payload that would pull the 5th wheel I’m considered for and with a short bed would accomplish a 90 degree turn. I don’t want a dually with an 8 foot bed. I like to be able to plug in my towing requirements and order a truck suited to my needs. Call up a ford dealership. Tell them that you a buying a 35 foot Montana. Ask them what truck is best suited. Do the same with the other brands. I suspect that you can accomplish what you want in a 3/4 ton short bed GM. Now compare pricing.
There’s no such thing as a bargain on trucks today. Pricing is starting to out pace medium inflation. Small pickups like the Tacoma are close to 45k with mid level trims.
that completely blows my mind about the prices. There is no way I will ever get a new truck anymore. I just retired two years ago and these are just a pipe dream now.
Good Morning My Good Friend Of Big Trucks & Big Trailers & Big RVs & God Bless You & All Of You're Whole Family Today & Have A Great Blessed Day Today From You're Good Friend Timbo White
Your comment about the mega cab length is a bit off. The mega cab ram has a significantly larger back seat than the crew cab Ram. The mega cab seat is not scalloped for the rear middle position like the crew cab Ram seat. The rear seat legroom on the Ram HD mega cab is 43 inches vs the crew cab of 40 inches. Also, the rear seat on the mega cab reclines quite a bit. Bad things about the mega cab are, can’t get it with an 8 ft bed and it detracts from the payload. Also, the crew cabs from Ford and GM finally matched or exceeded the legroom of the mega cab. Ram should have used the new 1500 cab on the 5th gen ram. It has 44 inches of rear legroom, which would have eliminated the need for the mega cab and made the HD crew cab competitive with the other brands. I’ve owned a mega cab for 3 years and 65000 miles so far. With three boys in the back, I couldn’t imagine getting a regular Ram crew cab. Nice review on the GMC, definitely on my list for the next one. I noticed that they also seem to discount quite a bit more than the other brands, especially as the trucks get a little longer in their production run.
My last truck is what I'm driving right now a 1999 extended cab 8-foot bed 4 wheel drive powerstroke diesel brand new 1999 $45,000. Sold a 95 2 wheel drive extended cab two-wheel drive 250,000 MI bought used to pay 10 grand sold that used for 8 Grand
