First real-life Autobahn acceleration / Launch Control test with the all-new 2020 / 2021 VW Golf 8 R (MK8) powered by the range topping 2.0 TSI delivering 320 hp & 420 Nm of torque (total weight: 1551 kg). Of course this car is AWD but it also features a tricky torque vectoring system at the real-axle which not only enables the "Drift Mode" but also seems to have a positive effect on traction in Launch Control mode! What about a remapped 7.5? From a first hand experience in the new Golf 8, the interior is a massive let down. Plasticky and a lack of buttons makes navigating really difficult. The buttons on the steering wheel also make no sense with no answer call button... Take from it what you will :)

@Iron Arm Yeah I use the DSG stick in my MK7 R all the time. Also good to change gears if you can't reach the paddles like when cornering. I love the MK8 exterior looks and performance, but they've cut corners on some materials. But this is better than the GTI which has really cheap black plastic trim on the outside. At least with the R they've gone body coloured metal door sills and gloss black diffuser. But the price is crazy at the moment. For that money you could get a very good used RS3, a pre-OPF one even.

Even using launch control, in those conditions and with those tires, hitting 100 kph in 4.4s with 315 hp is truly amazing. You do have to factor in the transmission too. The Golf R had always had one of the better paddle autos for any cars like 60k+ and less down to it’s starting price. And although I’d never choose any automatic over a manual, the golf r’s trans being able to shift so fast is a big part of that 4.4s time. Quite impressive.

@Just DoIt Will it put a 680hp Porsche V8, like a Panamera to shame? Yes, with at least 450 hp it certainly would once tuned right. Weight does matter alot. Just like a 530hp RS3 easily "outperforms" a 750hp RS6/7. Raw power alone isn't all.

Und ich kann gar nicht sagen, wie egal mir Raserei geworden ist, seit ich die S-Klasse habe. Dieses fahrende Wohnzimmer, diese Herrscherstaatskarosse, damit rolle ich selbst im Schritttempo noch dominierend an die Tanke und verweise alle anderen Fahrzeuge auf den Hundeplatz. Dieser Straßendominator verhält sich wie ein Weißer Hai: man gleitet durchs Riff und ist egal bei welchem Tempo immer der Boss - alle anderen sind nur Haihappen.

FIY: The Autobahn is between Braunschweig and Wolfsburg "A39" - I drive it daily. Measurement which is starting from 2:19 isn't that good especially at the end because it's like a downhill race. ;-) Anyway the measurement which comes afterwards and doesn't start from 0 shows the same number and this part is straight. I like your channel. Keep on going.

Glad i went for the AMG A45s ,here in the UK it only cost me a couple of grand more than a fully spec’d new Golf R and it would seem you get far more for that little price increase. The previous Golf R sold really well in the UK,but that was only due to some silly cheap lease deals on them,if that don’t happen again then i think people will go for the AMG A45s or the New RS3 when that gets released as like i said when you are spending that much then just a little bit more gets you big jump in spec/performance.

I like the appology for the conditions.-) Those are the BEST conditions for performance! Humid air and Cold weather. Can't get any better. Try hot dry day and you'll see 5 sec at best.

Technically the sound regulations only apply to stock exhausts, the user is free to add whatever custom exhaust they want. However VW is fitting these Akrapovic exhausts in factory, so it's technically not a stock exhaust. I imagine that's how they're circumventing the regulations this way.

when it's standing still. When accelerating I didn't really hear any difference though. Quite a shame to spent that much on an exhaust that only makes noise when trying to impress the kids around you xD But knowing how many golf drivers are, I can see them revving a lot to get attention, so I get your point...

Oder? :D Dieser Golf R lösen echt sowas in einem aus, obwohl sie eigentlich doch recht langweilig aussehen.

@@latlak Ich fahre seit 2 jahren Golf7 R. Und meine Fahrweise hat sich echt verändert. Vorher war ich manchmal sogar eine etwas ängstliche Fahrerin. Aber mit dem R macht fahren einfach nur SPAß. Und was das langweilige Aussehen angeht, an meinem R Variant sind nicht mal R Logos drann. Macht auch echt spaß hin und wieder verdutzte BMW, Audi oder Mercedes Fahrer mit so einem "langweiligem" Golf Variant abzuziehen! 😉
