I had the same idea, the Harry Potter fans have all grown up, I would love a more mature story - Game of Thrones style with the founders. Each of the seasons can focus on a founder with minor appearances from the others, and the fifth following them all trying to bring down a villain that has impacted all of them separately. Imagine a show that follows Arthur and Molly having kids during the first Wizarding War, and follows their family through the war and its aftermath. It'd be like a fantasy version of Across Five Aprils
it could mostly focus on fred and george, and then there will be bits where we just see ron stumble downstairs after a late night and mumble something about following spiders. fred and george are just like um... ok. All the book stuff is there but like background easter eggs

I honestly think that a TV-show re-telling the events of the books would be great too. I love the movies and will always do, but in a TV-show you don't have to make sacrifices to fit the runtime. A TV-Show that follows the books completely would be awesome I think.
They personally would be doing so much more than that and be fulfilling everything they ever dreamed of. As for content for us, I'm sure they could think of other things they could do without revealing anything, or purposefully lead us off the mark.
Yea... but as a book fan I knew what was coming in the movies for the most part... I would love to see the books more closley followed on the screen which is more possible via tv then film... but think of the endless amounts of spinnoffs!

Honestly, I'd just like a tv series adaption of the books that's more faithful to them than the movies but also fleshes things out a lot more, like, maybe giving the side characters a bit more focus and personality and showing things that happened off page (mainly explaining some of the pairings because Neville being with Hannah Abbot and Luna being with Rolf Scamander both kinda came out of nowhere, I'm pretty sure Rolf wasn't even mentioned before Luna was said to have married him)
I want them to be faithful to the books, but not to all the other random stuff that's come out later (such as Luna marrying Rolf Scamander). If it didn't make it into the books, it isn't important.
I agree that TV series based on the books would be based, but what you say about the couples, they probably got together quite a while after the events of the books, so it's not that random. If you're talking about believability, it's quite unrealistic how many people in Harry Potter end up marrying someone they were close to at school
Hiring the Carlin Bros to help with a Hogwarts Founders HBO show would be like how Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg were hired to create Cobra Kai. Those guys were massive fans of the original Karate Kid movies, and look how that show turned out.
One correction - according to the wiki, at least, Slytherin wasn't a descendant of Cadmus Peverell. The Peverell and Slytherin lines converged at some point and later became the Gaunts, but didn't join before Slytherin's time. In fact, according to the wiki, Salazar was around before the Peverells - he was around in the late 900s, while the Peverells weren't around until the 1200s.

That school is filled with intresting kids and teachers, in a world that has a large history. I would honestly prefer a story without Harry Potter or Voldemort. There is so much more to explore.
Last night I found a trailor for a fan made story about another student at Hogwarts. It actually looks really well made. Hasn't come out yet, but if you search Mudblood on RU-vid you'll find it.
She's already tried expanding the American wizarding world, they could go even further in that direction. It could even be happening at the same time, nothing that happens in the HP books affect the world outside of the UK right?

I honestly just want them to do the 7 Harry Potter books, only with all the things that the movies cut out. It would be amazing to see the story truly told fully in a way the movies couldn't.

I'd love to see a series about "the students of Hogwarts" a series that covers random independent short stories in every episode. For instance an episode about how a student sets out the giant squid into the lake and in the next episode it's about one of the first muggleborns at Hogwarts. This could have endless possibilities to go to, into the past and the future

Just spitballing here and thanks so much for the prompt! I imagine the kid would be raised on terrifying stories of dementors and have a ton of apprehension and fear about entering into the magical world. They would be incredibly anxious and paranoid because of that. And, it wouldn't be a bad idea (if done correctly) to have them be neuro divergent. And going off that, you could make the wizarding world culture see it as being a totally neutral to positive trait. Which could lead to an identity crisis because after living through life as a early 2000s British Muggle, suddenly they have people around them expecting great things from them. This is assuming that many of the greats were neuro divergent as well, with their special interests leading to things like the Sorcerers Stone and other inventions. All that built into the bread and butter of a coming of age story learning how to find the joy in wizardry, making true friends and overcoming and finding coping mechanisms for anxiety.
Would definitely be an amazing series. I would watch that. There are so many things that could be made off of this. Even as shorts, these would be amazing (better as series, show, movie, or book series)
I totally wanna see the founders. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Coleman and Claire Foy would be the cast. We could see Merlin, and Salazar creating the CoS. There’s just so much to explore!

Yeah... It would be a fine story if it's just not considered canon. Co sidering it canon means we have to hold it to the same rules as the OG series and it has different world building rules, namely time travel. There are so many holes, it makes no sense. But if it weren't canon it would anger so many people and we could enjoy it as much as we enjoy fan made content.
I feel like the problem with the Marauders is that you would want to show their story from the beginning, starting Hogwarts and living through everything we know happened, but then there is the problem that James and the rest of them were mostly jerks for most of their school life, this will make them really unlikable and they would have to make them sorta decent people almost from the beginning...
As an idea or was that confirmed for the show? Either way I would be down for it. I would love if we could redo the Cursed Child in initial premise with Dudely having a magic daughter who goes to Hogwarts with Albus and Scorpius

I love how the community is always suggesting amazing ideas about characters we know and love, and JK Rowling and Warner Bros. are like, a Gridiwald/Dumbledore duel would be cool, lets make five movies.
Voldemort could totally still be the villain! He and his movement/recruitment of young hogwarts students, as shown through the perspective of James, Lily, Snape, etc. could totally be the overall storyline. PLUS there's still that whole "thrice defied him" that isn't fully accounted for. At least 2 of those could be battles or missions that thwarted Voldy in some way. I too wish my scriptwriting career was applied to this project hahahah

When filmmakers (or tv show makers) are commissioned to adapt a book (or literally any other source) into film, they don't realize it should be just like making an audio book - only visual as well, so you don't have to have the descriptions read out because they are seen. Instead, they decide to make their own creative "adaptations" where they change anything they want, claiming that because it's a different medium, it has to be changed. That's utter b.s. based entirely on the pride of the filmmaker. The closer they stay to the source material, the more successful they will be. Although I could spend a lot of time complaining where the HP films depart from the books, sadly, those films follow the source material a lot better than most. I can think of one movie I saw and then read the book, and found that the whole plot was different. About the only things that were the same were the names used. On the whole, they should stop hiring creative people to adapt other source material and instead hire people to simply edit out the descriptions from the books, but keep every spoken word the same. In the case of Harry Potter, where other things like character motivations need to be explained, I'd have Harry sometimes speak to Hedwig, or possibly keep a journal. I would also have it animated, and have visible at their house tables, characters that haven't been introduced yet. For example, from second year on, you'll see Luna sitting alone at the Ravenclaw table with her radish earrings. Her house might even be visible in the distance when Harry takes the portkey to the Quidditch World Cup - the first time the Lovegoods are mentioned. It would be incredible to get at least some of the movie actors to reprise their roles in an animated series.

I have just watched the Lord of the rings Appendices and the script writer was like "I have learned from experience that doing the film exactly as the book is a bad idea"/ wonder what experience that was. as if a common viewer who never read the books would notice the difference so why not stick to the book and make all the fans happy. don't know. i mean there's the parts that are left out because you can't put everything in but why change stuff
How about a series that follows the books... but doesn’t follow Harry. Like, there were hundreds of students at MAGIC SCHOOL who we never even meet since Harry has the attention span of a gnat when it’s not about himself
Not to mention, the war is happening and even background characters will be affected by it! So it's not just them in magical school, but also living through a war! I think the number one thing I'd love to see with this idea is Hogwarts during the Deathly Hallows! How great would that be?
Yeah...nothing more entertaining than watching Joe Bland be herded along to class/the Great Hall/their house dorm with all the other students, doing nothing but wondering what's going on while the heroes of the story are doing the interesting things...for an entire season of a show.. (just one, though, because there is no way it would get a second season after that).
I don't know why everyone is jumping on the idea of a new story, when to me it makes a lot more sense to simply do the 7 books story. Do it properly, throw the movie depictions of the characters and situations out of the window and truly follow the books as closely as possible and re-tell the story the proper way. I'd much rather watch a book-accurate series then some random story that who knows if it even will be good.
I’d like to see a series following students at Illvermorny. Maybe have it were Harry and the trio are working as adults and Harry is asked to come to America to be a judge at the latest Triwizard cup. The Triwizard cup is being hosted by Illvermorny and is actually a four way school competition.
I hope it’s a series about the original movies that is much much more accurate to the books where every season is a book. But Marauders would be pretty cool too.

@@klaudiagrob You’re a very bitter person. All I want is a better adaptation because the movies were pretty disappointing. And I wasn’t asking for movies that were based off the books word for word. I asked for a series that handled the books better, if “A Series of Unfortunate Events” can do it, so can Harry Potter.
I like that idea. Even though I liked the movies, I feel like the books would be much more suitable to be adapted in the form of a tv series due to their length, detail and development of character, the latter being something the movies failed quite badly at. I do hope they do it in a new and original way and don't make it a knock off of the movies with actors who try to portray their character in their own unique way and not trying to copy the original actors' performances.

Wouldn't really work, due to the fact that a) unlike in football players on the field aren't doing the same thing, and b) Quidditch is a fictional sport, and works like that AKA the rules make no sense.
But, I mean, in Madden’s franchise mode you can play as an individual player, and I bet FIFA has the same, so you could choose your position and just play as one player only. That could work IMO
Season 1&2 The origin of magic, the Founders of Hogwarts 2-3 episodes dedicated to each founders' origin leading up to when they met and decided to create Hogwarts, the hits and misses throughout the first few school years, the origin of Gryffindor vs Salazar leading up to the creation of the the Chamber of Secrets, their deaths and the legacies they left behind, goblins vs wizards, origins of ministry of magic, triwizard tourney origin, quidditch origin, gringotts Season 3 the origins of the Dumbledores (that could span at least 4-5 episodes, Aberforth, Ariana, Albus and the parents each could have an episode all leading up to Ariana's death, the origins of Grindy, the origins of Dumstrung, an episode specifically focused on Bathilda Bagshot, the origins of the deathly hallows and how Dumbledore and Grindy came to know of it and the beginning of their search for them, the last episode of the season the duel between Albus, Aberforth, and Grindy. Throw in some scenes with Elphias Dorge, Nicholas Flamel etc Season 4 Dumbledore's first years teaching at Hogwarts, an episode dedicated to the mirror of Erised, his teaching of new and characters we are familiar with like Newt, Leta, Theseus (we saw Letas origin story but maybe we can get an episode dedicated to the origins of the Lestranges' leading up to Leta), an origin story on the Scamander brothers(intro into magizoology (newt) and ministry of magic(Theseus), everything we are seeing in Fantastic Beast but more fleshed out(magic origins in America, more on salem witchcraft trial in correlation to the wizarding world, origins of Macusa and key characters who work there, Tina and Queenie origin, an episode on the origins of Ilvermony (that could be an introduction to the gaunts) (plus BAM! now we have an Ilvermony spin off) leading to the global Wizarding war and the infamous duel between Grindy and Dumbledore Season 5 the origins of the Riddles, the origins of the Gaunts (whom we sorta heard about in season 4), Voldy's adventures as a young boy growing up in the orphanage, his intro to Nagini and more of her origin story, his time at Hogwarts with students & teachers, his relationship specifically with Slughorn and Dumbledore, the origin of the death eaters, 1-2 episodes on centered on a few early death eaters, Hagrid's origin story (his parents, Grawp, the giants, Olympe?) if we can tie Olympe into that episode she can have an origin story that leads to an origin story for Beauxbatons, the origins of Voldy (him learning about his parentage, showdown with the gaunts, chamber of secrets, moaning myrtle episode, creating horocuxes, his return to Hogwarts seeking the DADA position and his departure) Season 6 McGonagall origins, james potter origin, lily origins, Snape origins, sirius origins(that could be a few episodes to cover the popular members in the black family), lupin origins (Fenrir Greyback) , the malfoys origins, Peter Pettigrew origins, the Wesleys origin, marauders origins, sybil trelawney origins, origin of the ootp, long bottoms origin, Alastor Moody origins, the crouches' origin, Voldys return, the First Wizarding War, prison of Azkaban origin, the potters time in hiding leading up to their death Season 7&8 could cover the HP story based on the books some of the stuff in the books would have already been covered in previous seasons. I'm thinking each book should be given 2-3 episodes. I would also add in origin stories for the Wesley kids, hermoine, neville, dean, draco, luna, Krum, a few other OG ootp members, the wand makers, the Dursley’s, a fleshed out episode dedicated to what exactly Dumbledore and Snape were doing behind the scenes up until their deaths, Cornelius fudge and the ministry of magic Season 9 the cursed child but rewritten Needless to say I feel like the HP lore is so deep it could run for like 10 seasons if the story is told right. I'm sure I left out a lot there are so many characters and so many stories that interwine.
Okay hear me out here. ‘Quirrell’ the series. A prequel series to the Philosophers Stone that follows Quirrell on his travels and how he meets and joins (idealistically and physically) Voldemort. Could really turn Quirrell’s story into a tragedy, something akin to Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side

I still hope J.K. will write "Hogwarts, A History" as another mini book in the library. Hermione talks about it so much. I really want to read it. I first thought that the Marauders were most likely what the new series would be about, but this video changed my mind. I think you might be right about a founders series instead. . .
I think they could do a serialized TV show where each season focuses on different characters from different eras that are only interrelated by theme. One season could be The House of Black: about Regulus Black, how he was radicalized, then realized what he had done after it was too late to back out, yet tried to make amends by finding a Horcrux. You get to see young Sirius, Bellatrix, Narcissa, the plight of house elves, etc. Other seasons could focus on the founders, Merlin, conflicts with muggles, the Marauders and Snape, and so on. This allows us to get more information than we would in a single movie, but who wants to watch 6 seasons and a movie about just the Founders?

Personally I’ve always thought a Lucius malfoy series would be awesome seeing as he was the #2 in command during the first wizarding war yet in the second one he was basically a pawn for Voldemort. I think it would be cool to see how Lucius came to such power the first time and just how much of a menace he was back in the day
