I think you forget that there is one billion people more on this planet from 03 to today. So more people and less resources for people equals higher prices.

Don't know about wood, that could be a major storage issue. But you would be amazed if you keep your eyes open other items you could save on. I bought windows for 90 percent off at Home Depot. Aluminum clad windows for 19 to 54 each. About 4500 retail and maybe worth way more now. Amazon return sinks worth 200 plus for 25 and a smaller one for 20. Kitchen faucet from Home Depot on clearance marked down from 139 for 7.50. Picked up some Hardee siding from a guy that bought too much for about a buck each. Not enough for a whole house but I can buy more when I build. I even picked up another faucet, more like a bar faucet, new at a thrift store, 4 bucks. There was a local school that someone gave some Formica to for resale. Some church thing. Bought 440 sheets for 400 bucks. Probably never use it all but if I use just a few for something. Point is you never know what you might find. You may even find some used or reclaimed stuff. Other items .. new still in the box pendant lights, worth almost 300 for 12 bucks at Goodwill. I find lighting and electrical stuff all the time. Some I get for free. Did I tell you someone gave me 6000 bricks.

Good to know I’m in the same situation have land and would like to start buying as much as possible and store it away till I’m ready to build

@@djhenderson1516 always thought, if you build a big barn and store materials. Then when you build you find you saved enough to pay for the barn. Just a thought.

@@themajor6292 and then sometimes I change my mind and draw a different plan. But no matter what I design it still uses those same windows I already have. I do computer aided drafting. Chief Architect.

Your local lumber yard. They will take your house plans and come up with whats called a lumber or framing takeoff. From that you will have a close estimate on what lumber materials are needed and ultimately a price for them.
