Love the savage... got several variations from the original 21 up to the original flux and also a twinzilla.. when hpi started looking as if they were going under i bought up loads of spares, so now i have enough parts to build up 3 maybe 4 brand new trucks with a few spare 4.6, 5.9 engines and loads of used parts to keep the bashers running for some time😂 .. I did the same with my baja but it's great to see hpi back up and running, hopefully it will stick around for a while longer🤞
I’ve had a OG savage for sale almost new for 180$ posted for a year now nobody wants. Hpi fell off and I don’t think they will ever recover putting out the same damn truck every few yrs. step it up hpi!! Nice info chef 👍 Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
what's the OG savage??I also have one for sale jus missing the cord to charge the truck I think its the servo it charges ..but have everything else and 2 shells for it ..its the hpi savage XL with the 5.9 engine and the roto start 2!!!
All companies for everything across the board seem to be charging more for less… the world we live in now… I have the old SS kit that came with the K4.6. The pin “upgrade” they added, are the same pieces that came with my sway bar kit that I added. ;) I do like the new body though and the bumpers. As for wheel hexes, I never had an issue. I just make sure they’re real tight. Lol. They also should’ve kept the roto start as that upgrade was the very first one I did as I HATE pull starts.
Especially for the price. I sent them an email begging them to come in with a more competitive price because their going to have trouble selling a lot them because of the high price. It should if cost max $50 more than the Tmaxx. I don’t want them to stop producing them because they’re not selling. Can’t wait to get the Savage XL.
O the days of old ! Im noob and I figured out the zap straps needed for those bumpers lol it was amazing I found the steal pins ! Id want to get the savage x xl v2 the bigger one or a arrma talion 6s or kraton. not sure man I loved my ol savage x 4.6 mine came with 8 shocks though ! I swear it came with 8 shocks ... did it come with 8 shocks ? Yes it did so are these ones better ? I never broke shock just a arm or dogbone i think and that slipper clutch melted. so ya i replaced that lol
Cool comparison. Honestly I think when yours was boxed up they probably forgot the battery holder it, that suck though. If you message hpi they will probably send you one, their customer service was very good back in the day. The savage was always more $ than the traxxas products, but they do go on sale totally agree. You can't really compair traxxas nitro to a savage though in fairness, small block mostly plastic drive train vs the hardened metal driveline in the savage to take big block power. You'd have to drop $300+ an engine into a traxxas revo/ t Maxx to get it there (I.e. mip metal driveline, big block conversion...etc.). I wish the servos were a bit better in the latest release, but it is a rtr. I'm waiting for an SS version to be released, I'll be ordering that bad boy asap.
Awesome OPINION video !!! Def seems to be WEAK that they didn't even give a battery box thats a VERY DUMB miss and a way to CHEAP out the OTB experience being an RTR and the older other one has head light buckets?
I can currently get the old Savage for 445€ at my local hobby shop, while the new one is roughly 660€ across most shops. From what I get from this video, I should probably go for the old one and invest 30€ for the sway bar kit (to capture the hinge pins) and 40 for the hex kit + tires and basically have the new one? Except the old one got a rotostart?
I just recently snagged a brandy new Slash and the OH Savage 4.6. I went to start it but I could not get fuel to go up into the lines when priming with the rotostart. It looks like the seal around the fuel cap was too loose or worn out so I ordered a new one off Ebay. I don't know anything about nitros, when it comes to the brake, clutch, slipper etc are replacement parts the same? I also saw the OG had a problem with the spur gear or something in that area? Coming loose? I forget, hopefully if needed I can use the update parts to replace anything that goes wrong on this old dog.

Great truck but with the upgrades they also downgraded it just say it like it is, for 100 dollars more and that is what they are charging now it should still have everything plus the updates imo.
good review im with u 💯!!.I have the hpi savage X.L. 5.9 and I lost my charger to charge the servo I think its called..what ever charges the truck up is the cord Iost and cnt find it anywhere..Could u help me??I have the roto start 2 and I have the battery pack and all fkr that jus no charger for the truck...
So you need a charger for the battery in the truck ? If so that's pretty easy if you're not sure what kind bring the battery to a hobby shop and ask them what kind of charger you need it's probably just a nimh pack so you don't need anything fancy
@@chefbeardsly ok so it's not a pack battery I need..if u know about the hpi savage XL 5.9 rotor start it had a servo on it that has to be charged which I believe controls the steering cuz the motor takes nitro but I lost the charger to that which plugs into a house outlet..Hope this helps..And where I live their are NO hobby shops at all..I think the closet one is like 2hours away
@@cali8221 ok so servos don't charge they are ran from a battery and I know the motor is ran from nitro but the servos are ran off of a battery either a battery pack in where the receiver is or a set of 4 aa batteries in where the receiver of the truck is
@@chefbeardsly right and mine doesn't have the 4 batteries jus has a spot to charge it and I lost that charger when I moved so of course I cnt use it with charging it ..ive been looking all over and cnt seem to find one..
