I have the snapon par, the 22 inch ones they definately work great for clamping hardwr than my locking plyers personally but the down side is they deap grove what ever you work on so if ising them make sure its on something thats getting replaced anyways. Also i was wrong about 22" but its cose to 22" sorry yall
i got the larger baco version maybe 3 years ago and never used it. I use slip joint Knipex for my pipe related needs. a smaller version might be useful. it was only a matter of time HF made something you'd find value in. love to see it!
Strapon's PWZ2 AND PWZ3 are a must if you do alignments, the PWZ3 are a beast and will break the tie rods loose or break it in pieces. If the latter happens, you get to upsell tie rods and a second alignment😂😂😂
I have a Snap on one. I use it alot. Its my favorite pipe wrench. I want to get a smaller and bigger one because they are so handy. You cant beat on them as much as a traditiobal pipe wrench but they definitely an everyday pipe wrench. I so want to try the knipex ones too.
I just picked up the 21” icon ones, they definitely feel cheap, especially when you compare them to the SnapOn version. But for $36 I’m not going to complain, we’ll see how well they hold up.
45 years ago i bought quite a few cheap tools from J.C.Whitney & Co. Wire stripper/crimper and bicycle chain oil filter wrench. Still useful. And i miss the catalogs.
Thanks for sharing!! Back in those days people wanted quality over cheap stuff could you imagine how big they would have gotten today selling that they would be bigger than harbor freight lol
1:02.. and they're awesome.. I have the Knipex 17" & 13" and the ICON 12" sets.. (and a bunch of Ridgid and Riko pipe wrenches) the ICON hang in there for $20.. they can't be beaten at that price 🏁
Nice review, CP. i have the 21" and they work great. i was using them on a 2" shaft for a deverter that was stuck about 1" off the ground. So I had my whole weight bouncing off these. I'm trying to get it to spin. No luck with that. I had to go to my 36" ridgid pipe wrench with an 8' cheater pipe over the handle to get it to move. But the Icons didn't slip or have any trouble.
The thing I like about your channel is it's about getting the best tool for your money. I've found tools like ratchets are worth buying the Snap Ons, floor jacks and impact sockets just head to HF.
CP, you are consistently fair and honest. One of the MANY attributes you bring to this channel. And that is why we all keep coming back. Thank you.🤜🤛 I'm glad I don't need another pliers wrench variant because this Icon is really compelling at that price - and as you know, I like to avoid HF like the plague.
Snap-on PWZO = JH Williams JHW140 = Bahco 140 ... mostly look at Bahco references because it has the catalogue with more variants and often cheaper prices. about your classic Pipe wrench. It is called American pipe wrench or also Stillson if it is forged... on European catalogues, the other "plier" it is called Swedish pipe wrench/spanner and it is our European classic pipe wrench in different shapes, mostly used and abused by plumbers for exact same purposes. Every respectable tool company brand has half or two pages about this variety in its catalogue mostly rebranded. Bahco a part which is a leader in this, also consider VBW a proper German manufacturer of this kind of tools, they call it plumber's wrenches under sanitary installations... They are not new tools they are almost as old as the American Pipe Wrench you are used to. Stillson patented his wrench the American Type 12 October 1869, PAT. USA n.95744 Johansson patented his wrench the Swedish Type 17 August 1888 PAT. Sweden n. SE 5636 released again in 1894
I have a baco and a snap on version. Same size. (17 in) I think. Pliers wrench. They're kinda odd but I see where i could use them. Found the baco in the street and warranteed it and repaired it and got the snap on in the mail. All good in the hood.
I love my snap on pliers wrench, it will grip onto anything and i use them all the time on rusty and seized fasteners since i live in the rust belt. My only complaint is the quick adjust button can be kinda finicky sometimes.
CP I own every icon plier made. I own all 3 of these plier wrenches. It saves money until it cost money. I broke my hand on a Pittsburgh ratchet once. Money saved was spent at the doctor. Is what it is.
Hello Fellow Toolhaulics, Friends, And Supporters Of The CP THE TOOL ADDICT CHANNEL: Cp, Thank you for this video on the garbage Freight icon hd pliers. Unfortunately I have the whole set of Knipex hd single nut pliers & yes they were very expensive. On this particular pipe hd plier I must agree with wit you. They appear to be an extraordinary value for what it does. If the phosphate starts to come of I would spray it with some WD 40. Just as you said Chad this is kind of a specialty tool but when you need it you can't beat the results. Another great video CP, & my best to Henry. TMP from N.J.
Thanks for the information on these ..I don't own any version of these but do have knipex biters..great to hear of the options..not planning on any but thanks for the awareness..Buddy 👍
Good job cp. I saw these pliers the last time i was in the boat dock i agree they look very good for the price next time i get a good xoupon i will get a pair
Overall ICON is a little overpriced for mid tier Taiwan made. That said, they have a few tools like these pliers that they just knocked out of the park for price/quality. Buy Snap On for the bread and butter tools. Stuff like these pliers, not wise to drop more than you have to.
I've got the pwz 2 and 3 hardly use them but when needed they come in handy the icon version is more of a rip off of knipix version than of the original from bacho from Sweden
I have 3 different sizes of the Snap-on pwz and the 2 larger ones i bought properly 20 years ago and i don't know that any other companies were making them back then
I consider tool purchases an "investment" in time and effort saved, improved efficiency and yes quality tools cost more, they last longer and typically have a better warranty. I will always loan a tool to new tech in the shop, but after 4 or 5 times he should be looking at buying his own.
lol.. you knocked me a couple videos back for liking these : "enjoy your cheap Chinese crap" . I prefer USA tools but for me I dont need a $170 pipe wrench, and these Icon specialty hand tools are pretty well made for the $$ ( pistol grip pliers, Swedish wrench). If I use them a lot ill buy the snap on version , but for now Im stoked to have have these...
I think they're made in Taiwan. I have the 12-in pair but I don't have the box almost all icon tools are made in Taiwan Harbor freight's lower end brands are definitely China for the most part and the picture on Harbor freight's website shows the 21 inch version with the push button also
Hey CP great video once again hey was wandering if you got a chance to check out the Icon T8 Professional Intelligent Diagnostics Scanner yet and if not would you be able to do a comparison to other Scan Tools
Wow, I didn’t know they sold the PwZ0s under the Williams name too. I have the 2s and the 1s in Snap-on and the 0s in Bahco. I got them before Snap-on offered them and I paid like $20. It bothers me that the Bahco and Williams don’t have the same soft grip as the snap-on PWZ0 pliers have. Oh yea…. WoOoOoOoOoOooooOoOoOo!!!!
I was tasked out by my snap on dealer Wednesday with testing the icon flex vs the new 100 tooth flex by snap on ratchets. We put it on the digital toque tester til they broke. Had fun breaking shit
We'd all be very much entertained by this! I believe it was about 2, maybe 3 years ago. Koon Trucking and his former snappy franchisee did the ol' pipe on the ratchet test with a few brands. Certainly Snappy and Hardly Freight.
Hey Mr CP to funny I was going to ask you about your thoughts on these. I work in a cement truck shop so I don't usually go one day without needing a tool like this. I bought the Snap-on set but I just don't feel for them. They feel flimsy to me. Anyway that's just my 2 cents. No sorry 5 cents inflation is everywhere 😂👍🇨🇦
@@CPthetooladdict Are you sober? You could own both brands, and it would still be called rebranding. Selflessness has nothing to do with it. It is called a language, not your feelings. Nobody is stealing anything. The manufacturing company can then make more product and sell it under two different brands. That creates jobs for the people who make it. Would you rather them go back to the exclusive deal and lay off the workers? I bet you vote for Kamala.
The icons are made in Taiwan which is not the same as china. They have an independent government and china has been attempting to regain control of the small independent nation for a while. One may say tomato toe mahto but tools made in Taiwan have over the years begun to surpass the quality of Chinese tools and now many Taiwanese manufacturers are known for putting out the best quality at the lowest price point. Things made in china are usually garbage but things made in Taiwan are far closer to us made quality. Not saying they are equal but at 20% of the price of a snap on you can’t go wrong here.
